Pax's face split in a wide smile as she turned towards the Veslin, but there was nothing amused about it. Her eyes were flat and hard, and there were entirely too many pointy teeth on display for it to be a pleasant expression. The Captain's fall was utterly ignored.

"Tactlessness and nihilism are my most attractive attributes," she replied, voice surprisingly amiable considering the half-snarl half-grin she'd just given Ven. "I'm so glad you think so highly of yourself, but I'm sure your old buddies give about as much of a shit about you as we do. And I'm not happy about the whole 'exterminated humans' idea, alright? I'm just not surprised."

She was well aware of her species' reputation. She was well aware of the destruction they left in their wake—she'd lived it. Pax didn't really give a damn—wasn't like she could make an entire race change their minds, even if she was one of them. But if Ven was making a more pointed reference to loss of life, they were going to have problems.

Then she turned to Riggs, settling back in her chair and taking another sip from her ration. "Who died and made you captain, gecko? The baby fell over, she didn't catch plague. And if you'd ever spent more than a layover on Nomad, you'd know they sell to Council ships more often than you'd think. Sure, the worst of the worst won't touch 'em, but none of us want to get on their radar, buyers or not." Pax leaned forward and set the jug back on the table, brow raised as she smiled easily. "No, what we want is low-level, not too skittish but not too experienced, either—doesn't keep exhaustive records, is desperate enough to make cash wherever they can. How do you think the frontier is won, kid?"

She shrugged, crossing both sets of arms, one on the table before her and one across her chest. "Nine's contact might work. If you can't see how much attention we're going to attract by being mutineers, though, much less successful mutineers, shit, it isn't my job to educate you. You, though—" And now she pointed at Cú, eyes narrowing as she scowled. "You can speak for yourself, Scum of the Universe. I got no illusions about the Council letting me walk free, and even less illusions about where I can go other than this godforsaken ship, but I don't have to be happy about risking my ass for a species that might not even thank me. If they even still exist."

Riggs



As Riggs awaited the Captain's recovery, he mused over the reactions of his fellow pickers. Though Grick shied away from Riggs' "harsh tirade", he sensed little disagreement from the monolithic fishman. He took Nine's contribution for what it was -one of the first useful things that anyone had said since the Captain brought up the extinction of the humans. Though the feline figure seemed placated enough, he could feel a connection of annoyance form between the two of them. Riggs' eyes opened just a little wider in exasperation. As passed, Riggs did his best to keep composure, knowing fully well that the canine's threat had very solid backing. Almost reflexively, Riggs rubbed at his upper torso when the grizzled voice confronted him in passing, but showed no other tell of fear. He had no doubt that the clone already knew he was afraid. When began his... whatever it was that came out of his mouth, it was all Riggs could do to not burst with laughter. While the spirit behind his speech was admirable, the ideas presented were naive -childish at best, entirely ignorant at worst. Maybe a lesser mind would've been inspired, but Riggs saw it for what it was: a hopeless tirade playing on a thousand different tropes, reliant on a thousand more fallacies.

Riggs smiled as Ven interjected his piece. Though he and Ven disagreed at times, it was clear that the bandaged alien was one of the few on board who's mental capabilities were even near the intellectual prowess of the Corvidaen. When Ven addressed Riggs with a rather passive insult, Riggs did little to acknowledge it but raise his metal bottle in a gesture similar to a toast. He nodded along as the Veslinian began his own philosophical investigation of the situation in an attempt to placate the feeble minded canine. When Ven conceded that Riggs had adequately addressed his concerns, the blue alien tipped an imaginary hat in a mock humble gesture.

"Well, my friend of egregious persuasion," Riggs began, in response to Pax. "I may not be Captain, but I don't think anyone here can disagree that I am without a shadow of a doubt the most capable intellect on this ship." He bragged, knowing fully well that this would only antagonize the Traqkian more. Though he was confident in the fact that he truly was smarter than the rest, Pax had brought up a good point. In years of toppling governments and pulling off assassinations, Riggs had only ever had dealings with the 'big fish' on nomad, so to speak. Though he wasn't entirely sure of Pax's criminal history, something told him that it was mostly alcohol related, certainly nothing that had an influence on the large scheme of life. That much was clear in that he had never heard mention of her when searching out talent to assist his assassination schemes.

Riggs, as loathe as he was to admit it, saw truth in what Pax said -it may be beneficial to deal with low-level scum and arm themselves sparsely rather than deal with high level criminals and arm themselves for a war. Of course, he would never admit that. "I'm sure that this plan would blow over just fine with whatever connections you have with low level scum -a cousin perhaps? Nevertheless, I digress." Riggs said to Pax before continuing "But it appears our guardian Ukai has brought our answer. Unless Nine's contact doesn't come through for us, we won't have to fall back on any desperate low-level arms dealers. No need to bother with any schemes of mutiny either, though mutiny is far from the top of heinous crimes you'll see in the daylight of Nomad." He said simply, his final statement both addressing and ridiculing the concerns of Pax. It was clear in their excursions to Nomad, the two had lived in very different worlds. While Riggs spent his time around the worst of the worst -high level criminals who would just as soon shoot you as look at you, the red-skinned alien was clearly far more familiar with the tame side of Nomad -the weaker criminals who served under those who serve under Riggs partners. Possibly with a few more degrees of separation between their work.

Nothing else to say, Riggs stood from his seat and casually sauntered to the counter from which he had earlier retrieved the bottle of cleaning fluid, and replaced the now empty steel cylinder. He then turned to face the crew, leaning back against the counter. Across his face was plastered the classic shit-eating grin present on the faces of all Corvidae, though the emotion was most certainly reflected internally as well in the case of Riggs. He turned his attention to the Captain as he laced his fingers together behind his skull, giving it a place to rest. Despite a laissez-faire attitude, the Corvidaen was genuinely concerned for the Captain's health. He was just also concerned about more pressing matter at the same time.

"Captain Ak'sel, you have fallen. Allow me to lift you," she listened to the Freckan speak softly the words while grabbing her to give stabilization. "Thank you, Fish Boy," she whispered lifting the tips of her fingers towards her forehead, wiping away the sweat on the surface. "You too, Cu," the Captain thanked the other Picker as he too assisted her in retaining balance. Making a return back to her seat, Askel clutched onto Cu's shoulder, feeling as her hand sunk deep into the strains of fur. He was surprisingly soft, for a hardened creature that was unexpected to the Captain, far more than the fashion of his entrance.

Once at the table, Aksel remained quiet again though this time she did not stare down. Instead, she scanned the room, areas leaning towards the ceiling. She lend ear to the continued questions but understanding that she rounded those who agreed to the plan. Eventually, once all ceased to speak, Askel recollected herself, straightening into her usual firm posture. "Don't worry about the cameras... I took care of it already, tracking system included. Of course we would not be having this meeting if the Council held access to the ship's surveillance system. I have a few tricks up my sleeve when it comes to hacking, but even that was not needed." From her pocket she reveal the white back of a card. "As you Pickers probably know, each one of us officials on the ship- me, the lieutenant, and the pilot, all have an administrative card permitting us to activate certain technical functions. But what you were never suppose to know, is with a swipe of one of these cards, we can shut off all online connections. But that action is only taken in extreme cases, such as our cyber security program being infiltrated. Some of your more high-tech pirates are known to hack both ship tracking and surveillance systems. The last resort to all of this is going offline. But a part of protocol is gaining permission from the Council before doing so. If a ship is switched offline without it, the last thing received online on their end will be which card was swiped, thus supposedly who swiped it. So if I used my card, it would be assumed that I cut off connections. But I didn't use my card... I used Nine's."

The Captain turned the card she was holding around with the Pilot's ID clearly facing her. She laid the card down in front of Nine, "While you were snoozing in the cockpit, I snatched it off you. I didn't have many options." Aksel imagined Nine found what she did to her intensely appalling, not only is she forced into this mission without a say, she cannot have a say even if Askel gave her one now. The Council now sees Niseli Lesvab a threat to cut online connections with the PSS Excursionist. Without allowing Nine to speak, Aksel continued, "So the cameras won't be a problem, however our radar is offline. But we won't be detected on radars ourselves. We will see them as much and as far as they see us. This ship was created to withstand pirates, however it would be more ideal if we had an active radar system. If it is likely for us to trade for a different ship on the Nomad, that would be best.

The Nomad can possibly get us weapons, a new ship, and probably clues. It would not hurt to trifle with information dealers, although they can be expensive. But we have to be vague... and careful. Other than dealing with them, everything else should be relatively cheap, there is a lot of competition when it comes to making sales on the Nomad.

We are going to have to break up into teams. Nine, you are going to find your contact for the weapons, one other will have to go with you. Pax, go with her, just in case. Ven, I want you to speak with the information dealers, your persuasion skills and poker face will keep our plans low profile. Riggs, I want you to go with him, your stealth skills will come in handy also. As for a new ship, once Nine finishes with the weapons dealer I want you, Grick, to accompany her as I feel you understand engine maintenance. Z will guard the ship while we are gone, but once you, Pax, are finish with Nine report back here and guard the ship also. As for you Cu, you will stick with me, supposedly you will be trying to find a slaver willing to buy me. You will be my ears, eyes, and voice to the mission, as I will not be able to communicate to the rest via comm, but instead you are going to have to pass along the word, once I am ever given a chance to speak with you in private.”


Finally, the captain closed with this, “That is the mission, we all have our roles. It is stereotypical for Picker ships to revert to mutiny, thus this won't attract as much attention as you my merely believe. I am still your Captain, though for now, for the sake of the situation, I will play the part of a slave. Trusting you, well that is my biggest risk, but I have not heard anyone refusing the entire situation itself. Most of you have picked up on the most logical reason for my purpose in defying the Council, if they really did kill an entire race off, then what would stop them from doing the same to a hundred more? If this turns into a real mutiny, I will have no other choice but accept that.

Now, I need a volunteer. Who is going to hit me until this Villianian turns black and blue? The rest of you are dismissed… Unless it just satisfied your sadistic little heart to watch.”

With the captain back on her feet, Nine returned to her wall away form the others. Still listening and watching as the conversation continued. When mentioned she had taken care of the trackers, Nines looked at the captain intently wondering how she manged that. It was when Aksel produced Nine I.D card, Nine tail began to thrash around wildly showing the amount of angry the Ukai was feeling. Instinctively her hand reach for her pistol, Nine very tempted to draw and use it on her captain. Knowing that morally she could kill her right now and not dishonor herself.
"Thieving little Strish'ak. Just because your afraid to bare the dishonor of treason, you force me to bare it. After already forcing me to stay on this ship, your nothing but a pathetic coward. Once my debt to you is paid, you'd had best watch your back. Until then I have no choice but to assist you, but I'm not doing anything more the I'kasn necessary." Nine stated in her races mono tone which she was sure didn't convey her anger very well. Marching up to the table she took her card and went back to her wall. While headed back Nine opened up her jumpsuit a little and shoved the card inside. closing up her jumpsuit Nine went back to listening to the conversation muttering under her breath about how much she hoped that Cu sold the captain into slavery.

Once the captain stopped talking, Nine stepped closer to the group.

Captain, it would be cheaper to simply strip out the trackers form this vessel then to buy one. Good ships on nomad are hard to find and not cheap, but if really want a new ship my contact will know someone. Also if you plan on me actually getting us to Nomad alive. I'll need the radar unless you like flying into a pirate infested nebula blind. As I don't and won't without the radar. A second pair of eyes would help too." Nine stated looking at the captain for a moment, the urge to shoot her was plaguing Nine's thoughts.
Resisting the urge Nine went back over to her wall and sat down. She planned on watching the captain get beaten black and blue, given she had nothing else to do that and it would please Nine to see Aksel get hurt given she deserved it. Although if something else presented itself to occupy the Ukai chances where she'd take it.
While someone was being picked to beat the captain, Nine shoot a look at Pax wondering what like working with the picker. Nine not having had much to do with Pax, but had observed her a little more then the others, in person and on the security system as she proved to be the most amusing. Nine found it funny she not had a lot to do with her soon to be companion given the ship wasn't exactly large enough to avoid someone.

Grick stayed off to the side of the Captain as she rattled off their jobs and roles. Once again she was insistent on a member of the crew harming her so as to give the illusion of a rough mutiny; Grick's tendrils twitched uncomfortably at the thought. He would be a good fit for that duty, he knew - he had long since discovered that most kinds of aliens were extraordinarily... breakable, by the standards of the Children. Even so, he could not have brought himself to do it himself. He hated to harm anyone, especially a friend.

To that end, he lumbered over to the ship's Navigator, Niseli. The feline alien was regarding her other partner, Paxyntrotka, with an... interesting gaze. She had just concluded another vicious tirade at the captain's expense, and so he crouched slightly as he approached her, a hesitant tone in his voice. "Vaunted Navigator," he began, using the traditional title of any child capable of flying a pod ship, "I believe I have been assigned to help you find us a new ship. I hope you will not object to my accompanying you and Paxyntrotka for your first task - I could give off the appearance of..." he struggled a moment for the alien term he was looking for, "hired muscle? After your contact is found, we could look for a ship. I... well, I could be of some use in its maintenance."

Engine repair. Would that be his new job? He was likely qualified, but... the water in the pod ship was boiling outside his suit. Tred'elor, one of the control deck personnel, came lurching at him through the bubbles and the steam, her flesh melting in her bone casing. She screamed. He had done this.

The Child shuddered, shook away the memory, and drew a tendril along his back in a gesture to ward off evil. "In any case, Navigator, I am at your service."

"Captain, are you sure of this?" Cú asked uncomfortably. Enslaving another sentient didn't sit well with the clone. He himself had spent the first fifteen years of his life as a slave soldier for the Leveler uprising on Lupa-717, fighting and killing on the orders of the Committee. He had seen violence on both the battlefield, and on the streets of Leveler controlled areas, serving as both soldiers and secret police. His actions had sullied the Teufelshunde's sense of loyalty to authority, and driven him to be forever be his own being. Of course, five years later, here he was, a prisoner about to tread upon his own ideals. Growling low in his throat, Cú knelt down so that he was face to face with the Villianian.

Pausing slightly, the Teufelshunde continued "There should be a group of Teufelshunde slavers on Nomad if my memory serves me correctly. Former Levelers, now working for the Hierarchy, providing alternative labor sources as they're culling the Epsilon population. I should be able to contact them if they use the same code that the Levelers developed."

Cú felt something begin forming in his stomach, a cold, hard. knotted sensation that the Teufelhunde felt rarely. It was fear, though not for himself, but for the Captain. Despite their name, the Levelers did not want universal equality, only those for those of the Teufelshunde race. Anywhere the Committee conquered, the set up ghettos and mass executions of aliens and their sympathizers. Their specicism was ultimately there down fall, as they had tortured and executed a Council Ambassador, making the Civil War an inter-galactic conflict. If he remembered correctly, the slaver groups the Committee sent out were the nastiest of the bunch, their belief in the genetic superiority unbreakable. If they got there hands on the the captain...

Ven chuckled at Pax's assumptions about his old comrades, but let the rest of the conversation slide. He didn't need to say any more. (She clearly has never met any one of them) He raised his hands and nodded as she explained she 'wasn't happy' about the exterminated humans. (Perhaps I don't giver her enough credit... Nah)

While the Captain explained her plans further, he listened along, showing nothing in the way of emotion, and simply listening. He was neither amused nor angered by the Captain's use of Nine's card, just indifferent. He made sure to memorize where every other picker was going to be during their stay at the Nomad. He figured it was best in case he faced any sort of trouble, or any of them did as well. He didn't speak until the Captain was finished. "Is there anything in particular you want me to look for? Specificity would be helpful, though I can guess what you're going to request of me. And I appreciate the... recognition."

When done, he stood up and turned to Riggs. "I guess we'll be working together, of a sort. Though, I do wonder if your arrogance would consider it 'working together' rather than you begrudgingly accepting someone to accompany you, at the request of the Captain. It's clear you think of yourself as higher." He shrugged, taking on a completely different demeanor than he had just moments ago. He no longer cared to dwell on his crewmate's attitude."But whatever it is, I do not wish to care. I simply suggest we discuss a few things before we end up docking on the Nomad. It's best to have a plan, and I'm sure you are incredibly eager to share any ideas you have. Although, 'share' might not be the right word... But never mind that." He walked over and stood at the exit of the commons room. "I'm not going to be the one to rough up the Captain, so if you're going to do that, I'll wait. And I'm sure you'll want to walk in front of me while we talk about plans."

Riggs listened intently to the Captains plan, though his expression was one of casual indifference. Glee crept into his eyes as the Captain revealed the details of her using the pilot's security card. A light chuckle tumbled from his slightly ajar mouth, the scheme bringing a glint of happiness to the Corvidaen's eye. This was always the fun part, the betrayal and schemes within schemes. Though in the moment it was enjoyable, he worried for the long term affects of this tension. Hell, he had toppled entire governmental systems with less. He would happily anticipate the later results, and hope to prepare accordingly.

He smiled as the Captain gave him his assignment, pairing him with Ven. Ven being one of the more tolerable Pickers, he was happy for the pairing even if the bandaged alien didn't agree with the sentiment. Information brokering was certainly one of the services offered on Nomad with which he was very familiar. Many of the local dealers considered Riggs a regular, which could either spell disaster for the plan or be a major benefit. Riggs made a mental checklist of the information dealers with whom he most certainly did not want to speak with while under the false guise of a mutiny.

A bemused expression fell over Riggs' face as Ven began a rather petty barrage of passive aggressive comments. Waiting patiently for the alien to finish, Riggs stood and followed him. "These... accusations!" Riggs said in a mock-indignant voice, raising one hand to his chest as if hurt. "You sting me deep to my core, friend. I don't know what I shall do!" He said, voice heavy with sarcasm. Though the tone was mocking, he did not actually deny any of the claims, even making a point to walk past him and wait just outside the door to the commons. He had no particular interest in either roughing up the Captain or watching it happen.

"I was merely going to suggest some associates of mine who could be beneficial in our search for information." He said, eyes lowered in his best imitation of humbleness. "But I suppose if you feel so strongly, I'll swallow my hubris and allow you to take the lead my friend. I am your humble tool to guide, please enlighten me as to your expertise in this field my friend." Riggs said, not even attempting to mask the condescension in his voice.

Askel allowed Nine to finish, as she mentioned the Captain rebooting the radar in order for a safe and cautious flight. That though, was something Askel could listen to, including the ordeal with stripping the ship of tracker. However, there was a particular word uttered that she could not tolerate. Quickly and as soon as her Pilot ceased to speak, the Captain, clutched the edge of the table while lifting herself up and leaning in towards Nine. At that moment, Askel did not pull to her gun as did the Pilot, instead she restrained all four of her hands tightly against the surface of table, restricting herself from committing a crime she would regret. No... You need your Pilot alive, not dead... or disfigured., Askel reminded herself within thought. She did not feel as if she had collapsed a moment ago, the throbbing against head from the fall was ignored as the mind instead thrashed with severe hostility. It was not being called a coward that pinched a nerve within Askel, it was Strish'ak. Some native slang is passed untranslated through the implants, but more common ones are indeed translated.

"First of all, Nine, you don't call me a whore!" Askel could no longer contain herself, both of her right fists bashed against the table to add the further emphasis on the hated word itself and on her unmatched fury. Villianians are dubbed as, 'the Galaxy's Whore', and to be seen just as that in which it was uncalled for and irrelevant in the circumstance, Askel had only hoped to not edge herself closer to the berserk. "And second, groping your gun might feel real comforting, but within just a blink of your eye I could shatter your cervical vertebrate clean off your skeleton with the impact of a single pistol whip. Then I would tie that cute tail of yours around my ankle, dragging your head behind it just to say this is what happens when you call me a whore." Askel paused, huffing and puffing in the midst of her aggression, breathing as she tried calming herself, to which she finally lowered her voice. "Thirdly, fine. I'll see to it how I can reactivate the radar without getting the Council on our backs. But it’s a part of the mission to fake this mutiny, The Council would know exactly why I would go rogue if it were my free will due to a past conversation, if the Pickers overthrew me in a riot because my attempts to piss away their freedoms for a lost race, they could only do that with the alliance of someone who has administrative power on the ship. So I chose you. It was better than the Lieutenant, besides his quarters were locked with his card on him. I'm surprised you're not the one to volunteer, afraid it's going to bruise your knuckles? Here...," Askel unleashed her baton presenting it on the table. "for you or anyone who needs it for the extra muscle."

Askel turned and walked towards the same window she had before collapsing. There she remained in a familiar position, arms folded, staring intently into space. "I'll be over here when someone decided to make a move. Guess it is a bit comforting not all of you wish to see me beaten into a bloody pulp. But one of you is going to have to it..." Askel just wanted it to be over with, the beating that was, and really the future false enslavement. She was stepping down as leader, it was not quite a pleasant feeling, as she hated the lack of control. Trusting was something that did not come natural in her.

“Be vague at first, say you’re interested in the rumors of extinct species. Make no emphasis on the human race, unless mention. Then start with slight interested inquiry of them… Just be careful, don’t want to raise any suspicion,” Askel responded to Ven’s concern. Ven and Riggs, they did not seem like a bad pairing, as long as Riggs remembered to put the mission first and not himself.

Askel next felt Cu’s presence, then the chills the whispers of his voice brought, "Captain, are you sure of this?" She did not regard him any eye contact until he had made his point, reveal his thoughts that brought unease. Askel faced Cu, she muttered quietly to him, “Yeah… I’m sure. Listen, I’m going to make sure you’re equipped for this, give you my own personal arms I keep on the ship. Weapons aren’t always going to save us, but they help. I doubt the Teufelshunde would desire me as a captive unless the end result is concerns profit through selling me to other buyers. Us Villianians aren’t particularly known as laborers. No, we are used for beauty and pleasure… made to be whores. Its why I hate being called one. Such a rare species, especially with the lack of fertile ones, we’re dying. But that’s what the galaxy wants to remember us as, its whore… Not me though, I'll make sure of that.”

Cú's ears flattened against his skull, displeasure radiating from his frame. He had escorted slaves during the Civil War, had put down fermenting rebellions and revolts with callous ease. Granted, he hadn't been in full control then, and he regretted his actions to this day.

"Weapons are fine, and so is armor, Captain. However, If'm going to contact the slavers, I'm going to need capsaicin, citrus juice, vinegar and isopropyl." Cú replied to his captain, "But there may be an issue with selling you. Teufelshunde, especially slavers, Are extremely xenophobic, no, that's not the word... I think the best way to explain is that the Teufelshunde quite like aliens. They like showing their dominance as a species. No self-respecting, non-clone Teufelshunde would ever fuck an alien willingly. Selling you is out of the question, they're monitored and are required to bring all purchases back to the Hierarchy, making on the side deals impossible."

Cú paused, before giving his whole body a violent shake. Standing to his full height, the hound looked down at the Villianian, cocking his head slightly to the left. The Teufelshunde would never willingly buy the captain, not if they couldn't exploit her for labor or some other reason. Thinking back to the slave holds, Cú tried to think of a task that would entice his brothers to buy a fem...

If Cú's fur hadn't covered his skin, his comrades would have seen his skin slowly turned white as bone. Standing ramrod straight, the Teufelshunde stared at his captain.

"Captain, you said your species are desirable for their...appearances and abilities correct? Cú asked softly, before continuing, "The slaves currently on Lupa are treated worse than animals. A large majority are criminals that the Hierarchy have "pledged" to keep and reform through labor. They perform backbreaking and/or monotonous work. They have very few ways to vent their frustrations and stress. Are you sure you want to go through with this?"

Two of Pax's hands closed on the baton as soon as it was laid on the table. No one had seen her move, just a red blur—it was just that one moment the red alien was lounging in her chair, and the next she was lounging in her chair and lazily flipping the Captain's nightstick between her fingers.

"This is a damn fool decision," she said as she stood up, stretching her four arms over her head. The hard lines of her back flexed, as did the short spines that had long since torn through her undershirt, until some joint cracked and she lowered her arms again with a pleased sigh.

She wasn't just having a go, either—there were so many things wrong with this shitty plan she couldn't be bothered to list them. Any one of the crew could sell them out for a plea deal; could give up the game to anyone on Nomad; or, hell, just turn tail and leave since the Captain was leaving the door wide open.

If this plan worked, it would shock the hell out of her. If it didn't, it would kill her.

Pax made a show of stretching, crossing each of her four arms over the other. She was this close to saying 'suns out, guns out' and just flexing at people, but she didn't. She was self-sacrificing like that. Instead, she stood there with three hands on her hips and the fourth flipping the baton. Three buttons on the side—one to electrify it, one to make it telescope into a longer quarterstaff, and a one-off rechargeable sonic wave. She'd had her eye on this thing for a while, but the shit that would be stirred up by an inmate swiping the Captain's weapon of choice outweighed the fun she'd have until it was taken away. Now, though...now it had just been handed to her. Damn straight she was going to keep it.

"Thanks for this," she said cheerfully, before tucking it into a belt loop. The single hand she left on the hilt made it clear: trying to take it back would be a poor decision. "But I'll save it for later."

Pax approached the Captain slowly, a considering tilt to her head. For once, her eyes looked as predatory as her body, but after a quick look over the other woman, her ever-present look of insolence was back.

"Sit tight, Cap. This might take a while," she said, voice surprisingly quiet. Pax reached out with all four hands, but she didn't swing—instead, she pressed her fists slowly and precisely to Aksel's skin, the pressure growing and growing. A push like this from a Trakqi was enough to put a bruise on any Villianian, and Pax knew it. The slow, methodical bruising was almost worse than just going at her with a few punches. However, she picked her targets with care as she pulled her hands away and pressed them to another four patches of skin—these bruises wouldn't stiffen up any vital muscles to hinder the Captain if things went south, while still looking random enough to satisfy a casual glance.

If things did go south, any disadvantage could be deadly.

Goddamn, she was not looking forward to going back to Nomad.

If Ven was surprised by the Captain's outburst at Nine, he showed to hint of it. He simply waited for her to answer his question, and nodded when she was done.

He followed Riggs as they left the commons room, ignoring his mocking tone to concentrate on how he should approach the whole situation they would be faced with when the ship came onto the Nomad. He brought one hand to his chin and let Riggs lead the way. "No, it would be good to see these associates of yours, I haven't been to Nomad so you should probably lead anyway. Although it all depends on what these so-called associates are like. And our cover story of a mutiny, while not as... 'eye-catching,' for lack of a better term, as if we were to remain with our Captain in charge, whom people would probably assume was on the side of the law and authority... is likely to land us in much trouble if too many people hear about it. We best be discreet in our dealings. If the wrong person finds out, like a group of thieves, they could assume that our mutiny means we're disorganized and don't have a current leader, and we couldn't effectively fight against anyone looking for trouble. And that would really mess everything up."

(Though us two aren't the ones I should be worried about blabbing to anyone in the vicinity about our predicament, I trust us both to be able to be relatively "quiet")

"But of course, if you're not being unsurprisingly excessively sarcastic, then we should head somewhere with a lot of people. A bar, perhaps, especially since the information we're looking for is most likely not going to be very well-known. However, that will make it even more difficult to be quiet about the mutiny. But, if we play our cards when talking about said mutiny, we could find our information even more easily. And I suppose I'm not going to object to any torturous means of finding our information, if that's necessary. Though I don't really know your views on that.

"Anyway, I presume you were listening to most of what I just said. What do you think?"

By the time Aksel had decided to respond to Nine out burst. Nine had already moved on, so while the Ukai listened to what was said to her it was largely ignored. The part of dragging her severed head around by the tail, did make Nine raise an eye brow as almost daring her to try it. Aksel's reason using Nine's card also got listened to, but it only made Nine shake her head. All it did was show how little Aksel knew Nine and her people. No Ukai would willingly lead a mutiny, unless absolutely called for and even so would not side with criminals. Hopefully counsel put on to investigate this would know that or be smart enough to work it out.

When Asekl mentioned Nine not volunteering to hit her questioning if Nine was afraid. The Ukai shook her head in an almost disappointed fashion, Askel knew why Nine couldn't hit her. Nine refusing to give into her desire to hurt the captain was if anything was a compliment from the Ukai. Given her code of honor forbade Nine harming her commanding officer, unless it was to preserve her own life or some extenuating circumstance. Other then that it was a line didn't want to cross even if it was a very tempting on to cross, even if she lacked strength Nine knew even in her hands that baton would eventually leave a mark.

After that Nine lost any interest in the Aksel sitting on the ground looking over at her superior officer once as she spoke to Cú over by the window. It was then Grick lumbered over to Nine, the Ukai giving the larger alien an instinctual wary look for a moment before seeming to easy up. Grick was one of the pricker Nine always felt he was out of place, like he wasn't the sort to end up on this sort of vessel. Still he had to of done something criminal, then again what each race calls a crime is different. As the large alien spoke and called Nine a Vaunted Navigator, Nine felt her ego being stroked causing a slightly pleased grin to form. Acknowledging Nine's piloting skills was one sure way to get on her good side, even if that wasn't Gricks intention.

Before Nine spoke, she noticed that Grick seemed to shutter and did something along his back. Nine giving Grick another instinctual weary look, unable to help herself given the size difference between them,
"That you are. I don't mind you coming with me, it save me coming back to fetch you. Good at ship engine maintenance are we? That would be useful ... given it's hard to fly a ship and try to maintain it. Told the Stris ... er ... captain more then once a proper engineer would be useful. Anyway even if you know only the basic's of engine maintenance I can find much use for you." Nine stated getting to her feet, find it really uncomfortable to be sat down near larger alien. Once on her feet Nine looked at Grick for a moment.
So ... Grick ... this is an odd turn of events. Must say I've been wondering what you dug up for a while. Tried to look into but the captain made difficult." Nine said stopping when she noticed Pax doing something to the captain that wasn't a savage beating. Given now she was distracted Nine didn't really care, so quickly put her attention back on Grick.
I've got to ask, since it should matter know since we all know about the chip. How and where did you find that thing?

Do you know that feeling where you can sense fear, but by the reek of it, the stench is not pungent enough with familiarity? It is when you come to the realization smell is very much irrelevant to you. That it was by sight did you face fear, through the stare into the eyes of a Teufelshunde can you wince at the growling of your stomach in hunger to run, retreat, to fall back on a plan you so merely felt confident in. That was what Aksel read through not Cu’s expression, but his pupils. Even as he brought the words , ”Are you sure…, into a question, Aksel noticed that he was as anxious as she was. Yet, it did not feel 'justified' for him to worry about her. He was a scrap-scratching Picker, her prisoner, not a friend.

The Captain ignored Pax, yet unintentionally because she was side-tracked in searching for the right words to tell Cu no, that her enslavement must consist of other plans. She refused. But, within the mental expedition, Aksel next experienced a tight crushing weight against her flesh. The pressure, it was building, bruising, but in a strange perhaps even masochistic way, it was relaxing. Though the Villianian winced by the touch of it, she devoured a small slow spoonful of reality. Pax extinguished Aksel’s ego, although the only individual who truly suffers from Aksel’s high-horse-mentality was Nine. Yet Pax also did this through not only putting light physical harm against Aksel, but the Picker had also been the only one to question her plan with direct offense. And though the Captain did not notice Pax snatching away the baton for herself, it didn’t matter. Soon enough, her freedom will go with it also- into the hands of mere Pickers. Pax had just shown her through three pervious actions, that Valriya Sereya Yrenea Aksel was no longer in control of the PSS Excursionist. Pax was as essential to the team as everyone else, though Aksel felt the team regarded the drunken Trakqi far less as a laughful nuisance.

After being pressed against the window, Aksel gave Pax a nod in thanks, though she probably did not care nor wanted it. But she proceeded the mission, which deserved gratitude. Shortly, Aksel grabbed the attention of the rest remaining in the room by speaking up with a firm command, perhaps her last one before they hit the Nomad, “Everyone clear the room, except for you Cu. You stay.”

Once all the dismissed had exited the commons room, Aksel shut the door lock once again with the power of her administrative card. She thought of another option, if only it were not so risky. But trifling with real slavers, especially ones of the Teufelshunde race was a path Aksel was not so submissive to take. Her next apparent step was unknown to Cu and would be raised as an obvious surprise. It would be dangerous, but Aksel was not scared of Cu especially after the help he had given her after the fall. By that one action, she believed he respected her, thus she respected him in the same way also. This esteem exchanged between the two was what weighed Aksel’s decision when splitting the groups.

Cu still remained by the window just where Aksel told him to remain. While his back was turn, Aksel jumped with a kick of the table beside her to give an extra lift into midair and the right acceleration to grapple two hands deep onto Cu’s back, digging two hands deeply within his skin and beneath the fur to remain on. Aksel then fastened her second pair of arms against his neck, choking him. Though it being described seems life-threating, Aksel was obvious, if not at least hinted that there was no motive to kill him as she entertained conversation, “Here me out, Cu…”

Cú nearly clawed off the captain's arms when she grabbed his from behind. He had felt no killing intent from the Villianian, and when she had landed on his back, he had first thought how his instincts had dulled under picker work. When the captain's soft voice floated into his ears, the Teufelshunde had just sprang his claws on his hands and was about to rend the Villianian's arms to shreds, and was prepared to RIPTEARCHEWGOFORTHEJUGULARBATHINTHEINBREDMONGRELSWARMBLO- taking a deep breath to calm the red hot feeling building in his body. It was a familiar feeling, one that had saved him during the civil war many times, and had landed him in jail for murder. Shaking those thoughts away, Cúc calmed himself enough to huff an agreement to the captain, relaxing in her grip.

When Cu remained calm, Aksel became disappointed. She expected a carnage, awaiting the moment to drop her two arms from his neck and circle around his torso with her other pair to dodge a skinning. But no, he froze with a huff. Guilt struck Aksel's heart strings. So, the rehabilitation program worked, he was a civil being. Even when potential attacked, the bulking hulking murderer persisted with a peace and stillness about him. He deserved to be freed, like the rest of them. Is freedom worth sacrificing for a future’s sake? Even if Aksel did nothing but what the Council commanded, would witnesses be restricted, detained because of knowledge? Ignorance is bliss. Ignorance is deadly.

“We have two approaches,” she continued while loosening her grip and eventually hanging on with a hug around his neck. “Dealing with slavers or dealing in death matches…” The Captain circled around Cu by maneuvering herself with bruised arms. Yes, she still felt sore, hence her grunts when twirling to position herself face to face. She held his jaw in her hand, lifting his face to hers. “Senseless violence. It is not foreign on the Nomad, and it doesn’t have to be with me.” They would be making money on the side with wins on Aksel and she felt safer that as a supposed slave she would still be under the ownership of Cu. Though the concern is a Villianian duelist would bring unwanted attention. Yet even if the Council discovered Aksel, they could easily attempt to kill her in the arena. It would be an attempt, but a fair one, as Aksel will face other bloodthirsty opponents. “Hence, why I was suffocating you and why I am grappled against you now. Some hand-to-hand combat for practice? If you disagreed, fine…" She gave him a choice, unlike the rest of the crew where questioning her meant reckoning with her. "But know, I don’t stand strong with what can potentially go wrong with me in trifling with real slavers. It can be rough... rough for Villianians out there. At least in that scenario, my one master would be you. ”

Cú was stunned. Simultaneously cursing and praising the captain in his mind, he slowly gripped the captain's arms, making sure to show him retracting his claws. Sliding the Villanianian down to the floor, he gently let go of her limbs, before crossing his arms. In his mind he was praising her for her bravery and her plan to fight on her own terms. The colder side was deriding her for her stupidity and her plan. The new plan would rely on Cú becoming a figure head for her, perhaps helping her outside the ring. A better solution than the original sure, but it was still risky.

As he mulled over the change, an idea began to form on his head. It was a ridiculous idea, but one that might work in the Captain's favor. Settling on a neutral expression, he nodded his assent, before speaking softly to the Villianian, "What if I were to fight alongside you? Beta clones are more or less bred from the same genetic stock, so DNA tests and verification would be useless, as there are more than thousands of other Teufelshunde Beta clones in prison." Raising a hand to his face, Cú flexed slightly and sprang his black claws from his finger tips, "And I believe that fifteen years of combat experience would be a boon in the pits."

"A boon in the pits?" Aksel questioned Cu's suggestion after he had gentle unpeeled the Captain from a tight and personal encounter. She felt rather small from the second she had to first use the edge of the table as a boost to reach him to feeling herself being easily picked off as if she were a fragile child. But in the midst of it, Aksel managed to alarm the beast, catching him off guard and thus so engaging a choke hold moments before. She had speed, flexibility, and agility. He on the other hand had something she didn’t… “I like the sound of it.” She peaked a smile, excited, though it be rare to ever spot the Captain smiling. She was a stiff-posed creature and a worrier, but now, now things were piecing together. “My speed and your strength. Looking forward to working with you, Cu.” Aksel turned around and paced a few steps forward towards the door before stopping, “Cu, I trust you.” Aksel’s trust Cu earned it, he picked her up when she was down literally. But with her trust, there came accountability and potential sacrifices.

Next on Aksel's agenda- the Lieutenant. Was Aksel disappointed that he had appeared absent in the meeting, yes, highly that was. In fact, you could edge closer to saying Aksel was more than agitated by it- infuriated. I swear, Laux, if I find you hung over... A cop committed to his booze, addicted to it. His alcoholism deteriorate dignity where in the past it has deteriorate a lot of many things Aksel dreads to recall. But she cannot forget the stranger who dodged a bullet for her, it is by luck he breathes. He is a miracle walking, or staggering and stumbling depending on how many drinks. But the fact that he were the only one to remain unattended of an urgent meeting brought Aksel storming down the corridors of the ship, headed to his quarters. Or so she had planned...

Suddenly alarms, a dip to the ground with gain of a bloody nose that struck the surface first. The Excursionist rumbled and rocked with affection of a lone missile penetrating through its metal exterior. From then Aksel sighted rubble upon heat and flame tumble beneath the space once honing position of the lieutenant's quarters. "Lieutenant!? Lieutenant Caldera, come in Lieutenant!" Aksel barked the call through intermission of the com. No respond, but plenty of panic. "Laux!" Now using his first name, it was improper or Aksel to voice it verbally, yet this was who saved her life, it would only be fair justice to do the same.

She attempted to crawl through the debris of the attack, listening to her emotions though it further put herself in danger. The others however, well, Aksel desired an immediate evacuation, "Nine!" Aksel switched the com to her Pilot. "Evacuate everyone now! Target the pods to the Nomad!" Aksel panted, trying to catch breath while unintentionally inhaling fumes from the fires. "The lieutenant, h-he's not responding! The rest of you are going to have to get going--- I'll be there ASAP with Caldera." This was Aksel's fault, or so she held the blame down in weight when it came to her conscience. Shutting the ship offline neutralized the radar, allowing hostiles- whoever they may be, the Council or scoundrels- to lead a successful wounding hit.

Nine




Nine's talk with Grick was a short one, finding she had little to say to the larger alien before wanting to get back to her hidy hole the was the cockpit. Mostly becasue she knew soon the ship would reenter normal space on the outer edge of the Nova nebula and would require her to fly the ship. As Nine headed back to the cockpit she made a side trip to her quarters and got herself changed into an old looking jumpsuit. This one have and emblem of three circles inside each other on the back and side of each shoulder. Nine not wanting to be in her picker ship jumpsuit if they where contacted by someone. Making her way back into the cockpit she watched the ship reenter normal space, the ship lurching once as it did. Taking her set Nine tapped at the radar readout to see it was still blank, causing her to hiss in frustration. She needed the radar to spot pirates and avoid them.

Nine was about to call Aksel to have a tell her off about the radar, when the ship shook and the alarms started to blare. Pulling up a ship status she could see a missile had penetrated the hull and caused damage to several systems, but the ship was holding up for now and could still fly. Seeing no other choice Nine but the ship into full sub-light hoping to make the ship harder to get a lock on to.
""I told her I needed that radar. This is why I told that stupid Strish'ak." Nine muttered as she piloted the ship her rage building up wishing the picker ship had some sort of armament so she could shoot back. It was then Aksel ordered Nine evacuate everyone of the ship.
"Ancestors, this is not going to pretty." As she hit several controls, which caused the alarms to shift into a deeper tone and the ships escaped pod hatches to open.
"All hands abandon ship. Pods auto launch in 10 minutes so you've got that long to evacuate. Nine stated in her mono tone as she continued to work the consol in front of her, while trying to keep the ship form being hit by another missile or anything else. The panels on the rest of the ship showing the location of the escape pods along with a timer until the ship blew up. Meanwhile Nine stuck the ship on autopilot setting it fly in the most erratic pattern posable without making it imposable to move around the ship. That being said it be harder with the ship throwing it self around, with that Nine quickly programed the pods to head to Nomad once launched.

Having completed everything Nine quickly climbed out of her seat, looking towards the escape pod entrance a mere meter away. Nine knew form here she could get in the pod and evacuate before anyone could stop her, but Nine would never be able to live with herself.
"Dam my honorable side." she muttered to herself getting out of her seat. Making her way over to the escape pod she stood at the hatch, so anyone near by could more easily find the pod gripping the hatch as tightly as she could to keep her balance. While she waited Nine felt the ship rock again something impacted the hull hard.
"Crap that ship is all over us. Dam Aksel if I see her I'm going to put a round in."

Cú was surprised by the amount of trust the captain had given him. No one, not even his fellow clones, had trusted him the way she had. He was about to respond when the impact came. Tumbling through the air, he crashed into the window, eliciting a growl from the Teufelshunde as his shoulder impacted with a meaty crunch.

Righting himself, he began sprinting through the door and down the hall back to his room. Sliding to a stop, he grapped his jump suit, and began throwing supplies into a bag. Medical supplies, a knife, a lightstick, and 3 data tablets were shoved into the bag before Cú zipped the bag shut and ran back out of the room, bag over his shoulder and jumpsuit in hand.

Running down the hall way, he saw the captain behind a pile of debris and fire, near the lieutenant's door. Running over, he stopped in front of the pile of debris, and covered his face with an arm.

"Captain, we must go now." Cú half growled and half shouted as another shudder ran through the ship.
