Name: Kovinth Kai
Titles or Aliases: The Dragonspeaker.
Race: Human.
Home Plane: Tarkir. (Specifically Khan-ruled Tarkir)
Alignment: Chaotic Good.
Color: Blue/Red.
Appearance: Kovinth stands a proud 6'4" taller than most others from his clan. He is also more solidly built, resembling the warriors of Mardu clan more than the monks of the Jeskai Way. He clothes himself in robes similar to the style of the monks he knows, though the colors he has chosen are different form the traditional blues and whites, having been replaced by red and blue to symbolize his most strong mana connections. The robes are lighter than what the Monks of Jeskai normally wear as well, leaving his arms and chest bare. He wears thick leather bracers on each arm, and leather gloves with the fingers removed.Instead of going barefoot, as is the tradition for the Monks, he wears large black boots, thick and heavy.
Background: Kovinth is from a plane that no longer exists for him. A member of the Jeskia Way since birth, he found more interest in the written histories of the clan than in the practices of meditation and balance. He knew of the ancient dragons of Tarkir, as did everyone else, and he enjoyed talking about them and sharing theories with his friend Narset; who later became the Khan of Jeskai. Kovinth was made her ambassador at this point, Narset sent him on diplomatic trips when she was unavailable. He developed a good relationship with the Abzan houses, and brokered an unsteady alliance with the Temur clan. Sultai and Mardu were beyond his reach however. Kovinth used his position to travel the plane of Tarkir, finding dragon artifacts and bones in his journeys. He grew even more fascinated by the majestic creatures, and even helped Narset to discover the Tomb of Ugin, Father of Dragons.
Everything changed for Kovinth upon the arrival of an enemy thought long gone; Sarhkan Vol. The man appeared before Narset, something plaguing his mind and spirit and begged her for help. Narset called Kovinth to follow, and she led the former Mardu general to Ugin's Tomb, Kovinth following close behind. Disaster struck however, when the Khan of Mardu, Zurgo Helmsmasher appeared, cutting down Narstet where she stood and causing Vol to flee. Kovinth engaged the insane Orc, his magic calling forth the bones of long-dead dragons to aid him. It was not enough to stand against the bloodlust however, and as Zurgo raised his sword to strike down the mage, Kovinth found himself... Elsewhere.
He had Walked to the city-Plane of Ravnica, ruled by the Guilds. after spending some time learning of the city, Kovinth discovered Izzet, a Guild ruled over by Niv-Mizzet, a living Dragon. Fascinated by this discovery, Kovinth pledged himself to Izzet, becoming the Guild's archiver. There he met Ral-Zerek, who warned him against showing his Spark to the dragon for fear of becoming the next Guild experiment. Kovinth stayed for a time in Ravnica, but found no evidence of other dragons. He Walked away in the night, determined to find a plane where he could study the beasts.
He soon found his way to Alara, the reborn plane, and into the territory of Jund. Dragons ruled this realm, though they were more beasts than the intelligent species Niv-Mizzet belonged to. Kovinth spend much time there regardless, managing to communicate with the dragons and broker alliances through shows of power. He was taught the language of the Dragons, and honed his power to be able to summon the beasts. He learned his summoning was not just dragons, but also Drakes, Wurms, and other species descended from Dragons.
He spend a brief amount of time on other planes with Dragons, Dominaria, Innistrad, and Kamigawa; where he met four of the five Spirit dragons. Eventually however, he elected to return to Tarkir to document his findings. When he arrived however, he found a world unrecognizable.
Tarkir had changed drastically in the few short years since he'd left. Dragons had returned, as if they never died off. The Khans were gone, replaced by mirror versions ruled by Elder Dragons. In some cases, such as old Jeskai and old Azban, the dragons and other races lived in harmony; but other places, such as old Sultai, Dragons were feared and worshiped as the highest of all beings. Confused as to how this could happen, Kovinth returned to his old monastery, where he was treated with fear and suspicion, though this was overshadowed in his eyes by the revelation that his old friend Narset was still live here. He spoke with her about what had happened and found that she already knew, and had been told as much by Sarkhan Vol, who claimed to have changed Tarkir. Kovinth spent some more time in Ojutai and Dromoka's broods, learning of the relationship between dragons and humanoid races, before taking his leave, his curiosity having been sated and realizing he no longer had a place in this world.
Kovinth traveled the multiverse for some time, finally landing himself on Orisfal to find a plane in turmoil. The Dragonspeaker has heard rumors of a meet with fellows like himself, and intends to find them in order to offer his services to the plane.
