Name:
Mortimer Hero
Age:
28
Alias:
Mortician
Appearance:

6' even with a swimmers build of 150.
Skills/Abilities:
Skills:
Boxing for fitness
Standard police detective work
Police pursuant driving skills
Small arms proficiency (preferring shotgun to pistol)
Abilities:
The ability to communicate with the dead. The more recent, the easier to communicate.
0-24 hours: Lots of panic and confusion as the death is so recent and they are frantic for help. It is difficult but not impossible to solve the simple crimes most easily in this small window.
24-72 Hours: More confusion than panic as they are coming to grips with being 'invisible' and probably seeing their dead body for more than a day. These are the most reasonable to deal with and can remember the most details of their life.
72-168: These are much of the last days he can communicate with the dead at the moment as the connection to them and the beyond becomes wispy and out of focus. This is most often single word sentences and pointing.
168+: If the ghost is still around at all, he is usually limited to psychometric impressions until his powers improve.
Weaknesses:
He is a beacon to other ghosts, often leading him to unpleasant conversations at inopportune times.

His power is constantly 'on' meaning his disruptions vary from seeing people in various stages of fading to mental flashes if he pulls out a a dining chair a man choked to death in.
History:
"I see dead people..."
Supposedly born to a librarian for the city and a doctor who lost her license over painkiller prescriptions so had to settle for being a mortician. His father always suspected the boy was not his for a significant reason, he was too good looking. Mortimer's father was a portly pockmarked man who enjoyed his port too much. By thirteen he was already taller than his old man and clearly of finer features. His or not, he was loved the same and carried the family name until his thirteenth birthday when the visions started. Flickers and flashes here or there made him think he was going nuts until he started getting pills to take. When one pill did not work, he took two, then four, then he met his real father.
Some say no two people see the underworld the same way as no two people live the same way. As well read as he was as a librarians child, he did not expect anything as palatial as he was shown; a Greek temple of all black marble with golden veins. There sitting on a throne was a well muscled man who had a scale on one armrest and an abacus on the other.
"This is a responsibility you are not yet ready for. You have not lost your mind, but you have lost your will. I grant you strength to return to the living and understanding of your new power."
He awoke from what was a 5 year coma from the overdose; leaping from 13 to 18 was a traumatic shift in body and mind but he put his renewed vigor to the effort and not only cut through the classes he missed out on but sharpened his skill with the recently dead in his mothers work. From catching up to graduating in only 3 years, he was 21 with his GED when he became a police officer, feeling that was the best way to use his powers to get information from the dead and have the power to persecute criminals to their full justice. That was 7 years ago, he made homicide detective after five and been an investigator for two years now.

Notes: I can see him becoming a 'spirit detective' for a supernatural group in the city or else a collector of wayward souls for his dad until he takes over the family business in a couple hundred years.
Some items i'd like to see him get is his dad's helm of darkness and a pen he can use to give the dead a chance to deliver a final message that keeps them tied here before being collected.

Name: the Crimson Avenger

Age: 26

Alias: Lee Travis

Appearance:

Skills/Abilities: Military trained in hand to hand, marksmanship, as well as tactical thinking. The only other thing to note would be his custom pistols, which he uses to fire a variety of different types of rounds [explosive rounds, non-lethal rounds, as well as gas and smoke pellets].

Weaknesses: Under his stylish red coat, the Crimson Avenger is just as human as the next vigilante.

History: Travis served in the US Army for a short time, going through basic training and being shipped to Iraq soon after. Shortly after being stationed over seas he was injured and honorably discharged, being sent back to his hometown of Gotham. Over the last four years Travis has worked for his father's newspaper, the Gotham Globe. Originally just another worker in the printing department, after a story he wrote on Batman and his many allies was read and published by his father, Lee was offered a spot in the writing bullpen. He's only been writing for the paper now for about a year or so.

Weeks ago, a woman whom Lee had relations with named Christy Barker was a victim of gang violence. When Lee found her dying in an alley she was clutching the only thing the gang members didn't make off with, a golden lighter that belonged to her father which she gave to Lee. On the lighter there were a few words engraved reading "Qui Vindicet Ibit." It translated to “The Avenger will come." and was the inspiration for Lee donning a mostly red outfit to take down the gang responsible for her murder. In the apparent absence of the Batman, Lee decided Gotham could use every hero at it's disposal and took up the mask once more now wielding a pair of custom pistols a friend in the Army had been working on. Despite already making the headlines in his father's newspaper as "Yet Another Masked Menace" Lee continues to protect the streets of Gotham in any way he can.

His father is very much like J. Jonah Jameson from the Spiderman comics painting anyone in a mask, hero or otherwise, as a menace. Lee himself has been working to gain information on the Jokerz gang currently causing chaos in the streets.

Name: Jervis Tetch

Age: 43

Alias: The Mad Hatter

Appearance:

Jervis Tetch stands at 5'4 and is hardly an intimidating physical figure as shown with his lean figure and skinny features. He has dark ginger hair drooping down in front of his forehead whilst the rest is hidden carefully behind his hand tailored hat. He usually weas his coat and waist coat as well.

Skills/Abilities: Jervis's physical capabilities are very....undiscovered. He poses hardly no threat in a hand to hand combat situation however he is a very agile jumper, able to jump from place to place like a cat, almost always landing on his tow feet. But that's only if he knows that he's doing.

Mind Control Cards: However with the lack of skills, Tetch still has his hats with their special cards, cards which are fitted with microtechnology to control people upon contact that he can then control with whatever he says. He is able to get these to poeple in many other ways including putting the microchips in coffee and tape recorders to fool people into having them on their person, putting them under his control.

Weaknesses: Jervis's weaknesses are well, anyone stronger than him and quick enough to hit him before he can place a card on them or a hat, or at best run away.

His cards have noticeable flaws like any electricable outbursts of charges can make them malfunction and release people from his control.

History: Jervis was never a healthy boy. He was never considered well in the mind, by only his mother however. Everyone else saw him as a child genius but his mother always ignored his genius. Nobody knows how it happened, not even Tetch himself, but his obsession with Lewis Carrol's masterpiece began to grow insanely quick. Eventually all he quoted throughout high school was Alice in Wonderland and many started to see him as delusional and a freak, one he would inevtiably become.

In college he became convinced a girl he knew was Alice, and he was the Mad Hatter and he had to protect her. He shook that dillusion away but however, eventually became convinced he was living in the world of the Wonderland. He became obsessed with this, everything he worked on was based around this and when he graduated he had a dangerous mind and the technology to do dangerous things.

His first encounter with the Bat was when he tried to make the Bat his prized warrior, a new member of Wonderland, however, Batman defeated him and Jervis went back to the drawing board. He spent a lot of time in Arkham and developed...more techniques, an even more unstable mind. He met Johnathan Crane there...a man he knew he would remember and keep him in his good books

Now with the Bat gone, he gathers hordes of mind controlled peons underneath him in the sewers, prepared to turn this city into the beautiful wonderland it once was. His sanity is nearly all gone, and all he cares about now, is his Alice

Jason Peter Todd

N I C K N A M E ( S ):
Jay
Hot shot.

A L I A S ( E S ):
Robin II

A G E:
22

A P P E A R A N C E:
6'1, 190 pounds, Jason keeps in remarkable shape, far exceeding that of his peers. Spending several hours a day working out, both for his job and as a force of habit. With his upbringing his physical shape was the difference between life and death. His hair is light brown, it looks red in certain lights. He's got bright blue eyes, whenever he laughs his face breaks into a crooked smile. The young man sports several scars and long since healed bruises in his face, everything from fists to shrapnel has left it's mark on his body. While on duty, he dresses in the standard uniform, but on his free time he keep a Biker-esque motif. T-shirts with the Grim Reaper or Tombstones on them are plenty in his wardrobe – so are Half Life 2 shirts.

A B I L I T I E S:
Mental Capacity;
When compared to the other Robins, or the big Bat himself, Jason is a dunce, but compared to the average human, he's off the charts. His reflexes, reaction times and problem solving abilities as well as pattern recognition abilities are all most impressive, graduating top of his class without even straining himself.

Cheating Death;
Lot of people die, few come back from the dead, Jason can count himself into that very exclusive club.

S K I L L S:
Hand-To-Hand;
Bruce Wayne, Vic Sage are both among his teachers in Close Quarters Combat. While the amount of martial arts he is trained in could be counted on both hands, he is most proficient in Krav Maga as well as grappling. If compared to his fellow Robins, Jason lacks the finesse and agility in his combat style the others possesses, making up for it with sheer ferocity and raw strength. However, due to his line of duty, he rarely gets the opportunity to make a cartwheel somersault spin-kick anymore.

Detective Skills;
Getting taught criminology by Batman had it's perks – it made the Police Academy a breeze, for instance.

Marksmanship:
Handguns, Shotguns, Snipers, he's skilled with all of them. Prefering the Police Issued Glock 9MM over all. He could probably figure out how to use a bow and Arrow, too.

W E A K N E S S E S:
Jason, for all of his skills is just a human, and as far as humans with vigilante backgrounds, he's vastly inferior to his both senior and junior Robins. He's gotten less training and less experience than all of them.

Beyond that, he wears a target on his back, and it isn't a red R. It's a Golden Star on a blue Jacket, which in Gotham is just about the same as a bullseye.

Further, Jason did beat death, but it didn't come without it's drawbacks. Jason is suffering from extreme Post Traumatic Stress so much so that he could be labeled clinically insane. Kept together by constantly keeping himself in check – possible all thanks to the training he received from Vic Sage, that Sage in turn got from Richard Dragon.

B I O G R A P H Y:
When Hell Is Full, The Wicked Shall Walk Earth Once More.

Born to a Junkie mother and a Thug father, his father went to jail and his mother overdosed and died by the time Jason was four years old. Since then, he had to fend for himself on the harsh streets of Gotham, no Orphanage took him in and nobody was there to fight for him. His only friend in the world was himself. He was quick to learn how to steal, but it took him longer to learn to not get caught, and as such, by the time had was 9 he had spent more nights at the Police Station than most career criminals would in their entire life. When Jason was 12 he found the Batmobile parked outside of the apartment complex he at the time called his home.

What would most 12 year olds do when they see the vehicle of the legendary hero parked outside of their porch? Probably hang around for an autograph. What did Jason Todd do? He decided to steal the tires of the car. Because of course he did.

Getting caught in the act, Batman tossed the young urchin around. Jason spewed some venomous words at the Caped Crusader, and it earned him a look that might as well have been a swift kick to the ribs.

Batman would find out Jason's identity and keep him in his sights, like he did quite a few other kids around the city, Jason would receive a full ride from the Wayne Foundation to attend Gotham High, reluctantly, the street urchin put on the monkey suit they called a school uniform and attended school – he didn't fit in, but he showed his potential, both academically and physically. The same year he would be taken in by Bruce Wayne and brought into the fold, his training into Robin went fast, only four months of training. At first, he showed as much promise, if not more than his predecessor.

But with time, Bruce came to realize that Jason lacked the compassion Dick had. Jason was more concerned with getting Vengeance on the thugs who's collar bones he pulverized, than getting Justice for those they had hurt. Jason was angry. Really Angry And that's what landed him in the trap set by the Joker, a trap involving promises of Jason's mother still being alive. And Robin went off on his own.

Days of brutal torture at the hands of the Clown Prince Of Crime, the deranged lunatic broke the Robin. And when Batman was but moments away from saving him, an explosion would end the story of Jason Todd.

Or so one would have thought. Through means nobody could explain, two years later, Jason awoke in a dark and damp room, soon realizing it was a casket. Using the belt-buckle on the suit he was buried in, wrapping the metal onto his knuckles, he punched his way through the solid wood and crawled his way back to the realm of the living. By all logic, he would have been in a 16 year old's body – not that there would have been much of a body left. And yet, there he was, his body older than when he died and fully functional.

While at the start, Jason thought himself to be perfectly normal, he found a convenient store where he grabbed several bottles of water and attempted to make a phone call, the line was dead and a fat trucker was bothered a young woman behind him in line. Words were said and the trucker hit the woman – the same way Jason's father had hit his mother in his earliest memories. The same way The Joker had hit him.

And so the manical laughter rang inside of his head and in a blood raged fury, Jason had grabbed the trucker by a choke hold and dragged him into the men's bathroom. Beating the man to death by bashing his head against the walls. He had broken Batman's code, and as he stood there with warm blood trickling down his fist, he felt no remorse. He wasn't sorry, and he wasn't going to stop.

Making his way back from the hellhole he had been buried in, he would come to Gotham and find out that Bruce hadn't killed the Joker, after all. That after all The Joker had done to him, that piece of shit was still breating. Jason had loved Bruce like the father he never had, with his everything, and yet, to Bruce, Jason was nothing. A tool, a good little soldier, nothing more. A soldier that was easily replaced.

Angry and upset, Jason would proceed to make plans to kill Bruce. Appearing in the criminal underworld donning biker leathers and a red biker helm, using the tactics Bruce had taught him – but corrupted and sinister, he slaughtered several gangs, putting an end to their activities in a way Batman never had the guts to do.

One night, Batman and the new Robin – Tim Drake was following up a lead. Knowing where Bruce would park the Batmobile in relation to the location, Jason made sure to be there. Planting enough explosives to destroy half a city block under the would be tank. He waited for Batman and Robin to get in as he held his hand on the detonator. He heard a voice. Was it his soul? Did he have one? Adrenaline pumped as he got ready to destroy his one time hero and his new ward. But then a tap on his shoulder and a swift fist to the face changed his tune. As he hit the floor of the rooftop and his helm cracked open. Before him he saw a blue cape. Peering his eyes upwards, he would find it wasn't a cape, but a coat. That of the Hub City Detective – The one without a face, the living Enigma. The Question.

The two fought for a moment while the Batmobile sped off, unknowing of how close the dynamic duo had been to meet their doom. The Question had tracked Jason's activities, and was there to help him, he claimed. In a way, Question was much like Bruce, his way of helping relied a lot of physical violence.

Getting his face beaten in wasn't the worst thing to happen to Jason, as it turned out, for when the Vigilante had beaten him unconscious, he woke up in a apartment, restrained by handcuffs. Cuffs he could break out of in a few moments, if he so wanted. Opposed to him sat the blue clad vigilante, looking at him – even if it was impossible to tell due to the mask he wore.

They talked, at first for a few minutes. Then for hours. And soon, Jason realized that he was broken, and that Vic Sage understood him, in a way Bruce Wayne never could have. Every time in the coming 9 months he would act out, get violent, Vic Sage would put him in his place. Show him a different way. The way of meditation and discipline, the same way Vic had been taught by Richard Dragon. A way Jason could get rid of the anger and the blood lust he felt. That he could let go of his hatred for Bruce, for the Joker and for the world.

With time, and a lot of sparring, Jason would learn to control himself. A man who had beaten death and come back from the other side, he had finally been reborn. He had learned how to break free of the chains put on him. Of his past, that he wasn't a deadbeat like his mother or a thug like his father. He wasn't Bruce, and he wasn't Robin, he wasn't the Joker, nor was he the circumference of all of these things. He was Jason Todd, and he had been given a second chance at life. A chance he wouldn't squander.

In the following two years he would enroll in the Hub City Police Academy, still troubled and still dead as far as anyone in Gotham knew, all the trails of his criminal activities had been swept clean by Vic. He graduated top of his class, becoming a proud officer of the HCPD, until the news hit him. The Joker was dead, and Bruce was gone.

It was time, that for real, Jason Todd would rise from the ashes and come back to the world of the living. It was time to go back to Gotham.

M I S C. N O T E S:
Over the years as a police officer, his martial arts skills have diminished, the average thug doesn't require the Hand to Hand combat skill to take down that a super villain would. He stays far from the attention of the Batfamily, but he isn't hiding. He didn't change his name, nor is he hiding his views of the vigilantes, being one of many in the GCPD who supports them.

Mictlantecuhtli: You forget yourself. I am no upstart demon, scrabbling in the dirt of the human soul. I am Mictlantecuhtli. I am a god.
John: Great stuff. I'm John — and I'm a
bastard.

Age: Late 30s and still lookin’ good, luv
Alias: Who needs a bloody alias?
Appearance: Standing at exactly six feet, blond hair and blue eyes, John Constantine is a Nazi’s Aryan dream. Or at least he would be, if his appearance wasn’t so disheveled and unkempt. He has an average build, with a permanent 5 o’clock shadow. His hair is kept short, but messy, and his eyes always have a look of rebellious contempt no matter to whom he may he speaking. He’s always seen wearing a plain brown trenchcoat, usually with a cigarette between his lips.
Skills/Abilities:
 • Brawler - Constantine isn’t a master hand to hand combatant, but he’s knocked over more than his fair share of sods in the pub. Rather than any form of martial arts, he’s more of a brawler and an opportunist, and he’s not afraid to fight as dirty as is needed. After all, he cares about winning, and the quickest, easiest way to win is to cheat.
 • Prestidigitation - In addition to his real occult powers, Constantine is well versed in sleight of hand and stage show theatrics. In fact, he’s more likely to fall back on his natural trickery than real magic.
 • Manipulation - Without question Constantine’s greatest asset does not lie in his spells, or fighting, or ancient demonic pacts, but with his natural cunning. Above all else, John Constantine is a conman, and a damn good one, able to outmaneuver and trick angels and demons. He once tricked multiple demons into buying his soul, effectively rendering him immortal as they had no way to sort out the problem of where exactly his soul would go (though that problem has since been rectified, so his immortality is no longer an issue). Somehow he gets his “friends” to continue working with him, even when they’ve sworn him off.
 • Occultist - John Constantine is a practitioner of many magics from many cultures. He doesn’t have the most powerful spells in the world, but few can match the sheer variety that Constantine can offer in minor cantrips. He’s quite skilled in black magic curses, though, and has been known to inflict anything from herpes to rotting flesh on his victims, if they piss him off.
 • Demon Summoning - The most potent and powerful of John Constantine’s magics is the ability to summon and bind demons to his service. He’s got the summon part down pat. It’s the bind portion that he’s got problems with. Since he has no way to actually control them, summoning a demon is pretty much the single last resort, and only in dire situations with consequences that stretch far beyond his own influence.
 • Musical Talent - Constantine has a history of punk rock. His band was pretty terrible. Doesn’t mean he isn’t knowledgeable about music.

Weaknesses:
 • Doom Magnet - In a world with Etrigan the Demon, Doctor Fate, Morgan le Fey, Zatanna, and Klarion the Witch Boy, Constantine is associated with the most fearful reputation of all, despite his powers not being remotely within the same league as any of the above. How is this possible? It is almost as though fate itself conspires to doom everyone around him, for anyone that associates with Constantine either dies a horrifying death, or finds themselves suffering a fate even worse than dying.
 • Rebel without a cause - Constantine is not a pleasant individual. In fact, one might call him a total jerk. Needless to say, this doesn’t make him very many friends, and he needlessly antagonizes people around him, especially authority figures.
 • Addiction - John Constantine is a heavy drinker and smoker. He’s never seen without one of his trademark Silk Cut cigarettes. It’s done wonders for his health.
 • Crosses the line - When Constantine decides that something need be done, he makes sure that it gets done. No matter the cost. While he normally is “on the side of the angels,” he’s far from their sense of morality. He habitually lies to everyone, including his closest friends, even when it’s not necessary. No sacrifice is too great.

History: "I'm the one who steps from the shadows, all trenchcoat and cigarettes and arrogance, ready to deal with the madness. Oh, I've got it all sewn up. I can save you. If it takes the last drop of your blood, I'll drive your demons away. I'll kick them in the bollocks and spit on them when they're down and then I'll be gone back into darkness, leaving only a nod and a wink and a wisecrack. I walk my path alone... who would walk with me?"

John Constantine was born in Liverpool, England to Thomas and Mary Ann Constantine, younger brother of Cheryl. John was a twin, but Thomas did not want any more children, and so he forced his wife to commit abortion using a coat hanger. John’s twin died, but John successfully made it through, a true survivor from the beginning. Sadly, Mary Ann died during birth as a result of complications from her botched abortion. Old, bitter, and angry, Thomas blamed young John for the death of his wife. A drunken lout, he took to verbally and physically abusing his young son. Raised primarily by his older sister in such a toxic environment, John pretty quickly became a punk. He quickly took to his skills as a silver tongued little devil, developing the necessary traits of a conman.

Learning sleight of hand and other stage magician tricks was just another means to being a better street ruffian, but this path extended farther than he ever knew he’d get to go. From a young age, John Constantine began to learn real magic. The prospect fascinated him, but he never devoted himself to any single art, instead picking up different tricks here and there, dabbling like calling forth the spirits of the damned was some sort of hobby. Constantine focused the majority of his time on his punk rock band, Mucous Membrane, with his closest friends at the time. They too took to the magical arts, but they lacked restraint. They all lacked discipline, and soon suffered for it. After a botched spell, Veronica Delacroix lost her ties to the mortal world and faded. Distraught, John traveled to America.

In his travels Constantine learned from some of the greatest magicians and sorcerers around, but never stayed in one place long enough to really master anything. It was during this time that he had a romance with Zatanna, daughter of Zatarra, two of the most powerful magicians of the time. He instantly fell in love with the woman, and still does to this day, but like all good things in the life of a Constantine it just wasn’t meant to last. John always felt that she was too good for a bitter sod like him. She was distressed that his activities resulted in her father burning alive before their eyes. One might say the split up was decided to be mutually beneficial.

Regardless, Constantine has since been a detective of the occult, champion of the oppressed, and master of the dark arts (“I should really change my business cards to ‘petty dabbler’”). While he primarily operates throughout England, his travels take him anywhere a demon needs a good kick in the bollocks, or a snide cultist could do with a right arse kicking. Unfortunately when you wage war on the people that own the world, there tends to be a lot of collateral damage, and now that war has taken him to Gotham City where he has tracked a demonic cult intent on summoning horrors beyond mortal imagining.
