...we already have a turian assassin, but granted, that one is a biotic. You might notice her on the first page. I guess you can still make your character if he's sufficiently different but you'll probably have to wait a bit - might send you in in the second wave together with the quarian guy from the other thread.

Took me long enough... :P Don't know why, but I was seriously struggling with the abilities. Let me know if anything needs work.

Name: Ruav'Tor nar Moreh
Age: 23
Sex: Male
Race: Quarian (13)
Class: Engineer (17+1=18)
Appearance: Ruav'Tor is tall, lean, and carries himself like a wild animal, always keeping his head on a swivel. Beneath his suit, his body is marred by numerous scars as a result of various injuries, as well as indicating points of insertion for various cybernetic implants. His suit has a blue and silver color scheme, although he has been working on a specially armored variant for high-risk situations.

Personality: Irritable, aggressive, and evasive, Ruav seems unlike the "typical" quarian. Where most seek to benefit the migrant fleet and the quarian race as a whole, he believes that he owes nothing to his people. In his opinion, his exile was a pretty obvious message. His exile was the crucible of his aggressive personality, although there are very few individuals in the galaxy who have seen his early personality.

When it comes to combat, Ruav prefers not to get involved directly, if at all. His penchant for hacking and building robotic pawns tends to work to his advantage in this respect, when he is near enough components to suit his needs. If he doesn't have access to robotics, he will set devious, devastating traps for his enemies. His favored technique involves venting atmosphere from space stations, rupturing fuel lines, or overloading electrical systems. When traps don't get the job done, he sneaks about the area, sabotaging the enemy until he can get in close with either a point-blank pistol shot or a crippling blow with an omni-blade.

Ruav feels an unrelenting need to improve on anything he comes across, if he can keep it. This usually results in his sneaking onto small ships, eliminating the crew (often by voiding the atmosphere or releasing toxins into the life-support system), and installing VIs with orders to drop him off before flying the ship out of tracking range to join a slowly growing fleet.

His eventual goal is to create a fleet of his own, manned by synthetic pawns, VIs, and even AIs, so that he may eventually return to the migrant fleet and accept the grovelling and apologies of the admiralty board that sentenced him to exile, before turning away from them once again, allowing them to see the folly of their actions, and the merits of his own.

History: Ruav'Tor was born to members of the Special Projects arm of the migrant fleet, aboard the ship Moreh. His father was interested in increasing quarian survivability in combat and environmental hazard areas, and his mother was working on augmenting the migrant marine force through various implants and weapons research. This made for some unusual reading during his childhood. However, Ruav still cherishes the teachings of his parents, and still uses elements of these teachings for many of his projects.

From a young age, Ruav was particularly curious about the geth. At first, he only sought out information about the various sub-types, and the potential methods for neutralizing them. However, as he grew older, the boy began to wonder whether or not it would be possible to either create more submissive synthetic servants, or return the geth to their original function. This would eventually lead to his downfall, as this was his goal for his pilgrimage.

When his pilgrimage came, Ruav knew that he would bring back ships and servants for the fleet, and hoped that he would be welcomed back with gratitude and appreciation. However, this was not to be so. It was easy enough to procure a few derelict ships by working for the cost, spruce them up by salvaging wrecks, and man them with VIs that he had designed for the task. But it wasn't impressive enough for the young quarian. He wanted to make a bigger impression, so he set to the task of creating synthetic servants to man the craft as well. Over the course of a few years, he was able to create a squadron of robotic assistants, mostly comprised of scraped together wrecks of service or guard robots. That wasn't difficult, but the creation of a unique Virtual Intelligence to inhabit each of them was significantly more involved. After creating one functional unit, the work became easier. Down time became filled with interesting conversation on the nature of intelligence, existence, and an easy bonding with his "children." Objectively, Ruav knew that these relationships were one-sided, given the fact that he created the VI personalities from aspects of his own, but over time this knowledge became less relevant, when compared against the friendship he shared with his synthetics.

Finally, with several ships and a number of synthetic allies in tow, Ruav returned to the migrant fleet. Upon arrival, he was immediately detained, and forced to undergo trial as a traitor for bringing artificial intelligence back to the fleet. Despite his protests, he was found guilty, forced to watch as the ship containing his self-made allies was destroyed, and loaded onto one of the craft he had brought back with him. He was sent away, told never to return, and thoroughly disgraced.

Ruav is understandably bitter about this.

Since his exile, the quarian has made his way through "civilized" space, working odd jobs and collecting new skills as he went. He continues to gather a personal fleet, much as he did during his pilgrimage, although his methods and limits have vastly changed. He no longer works for months at a time to pay off a single, derelict ship. Now, he spends no more than a week, picking his prize, planning his takeover, and stealing aboard to wipe out the crew and take his prize.

After an unfortunate incident with C-Sec, Ruav was given an ultimatum by an anonymous representative of the Council. He could either use his talents to benefit the Council interests, or he could rot in prison. Of course, the benefits that were offered as further incentive to assist the Council were enticing in their own right.

Credits, spacecraft, and materials for synthetic pawns? He was in. As far as he cared, the Council was a means to an end, and he was simply working on an investment by working with them.

Abilities:

  • Technical Affinity: Ruav is an accomplished engineer, with an almost instinctive affinity for technology of all kinds. Ability Rating: 13

  • Saboteur: He can sabotage his enemies, and create various benefits for his allies with little effort, and is particularly fond of projects involving spacecraft. Ability Rating: 13+2=15

  • Synthetic Specialist: Ruav has a fascination with artificial life of all types. At any given time, he has a number of VI programs stored in various devices on his person, just waiting to be given a platform and an objective. This enables him to make quick work of pirating spacecraft, hacking through security systems, or generally causing chaos when the need arises. It also gives him an alternative form of companionship, when his living comrades become too much to bear. Ability Rating: 13+8=1M

  • Pirate: Roav is always looking to improve his personal fleet by adding newer or better spacecraft to it. He is accomplished at analyzing a targets weaknesses, quickly gathering information about layout and crew, then sneaking on and taking it for himself. As such, it has become increasingly difficult for him to truly become stranded anywhere, as it would be a simple matter to send a signal out and have a craft pick him up within a few days. Ability Rating: 13+6=19

  • Tinkerer: Constantly making improvements to his omni-tool, suit programs, and weapons, Ruav is usually able to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of many types of technology. He can repair nearly anything he has the time to analyze. Ability Rating: 13

  • Stealthy: Never one to be caught in a straight up fight if he can help it, Ruav has created several programs into his suit to help his stealth skills. Small sensors throughout his suit can let him know what the light levels are like in his surroundings, and a handy biological database lets him know which species (if any) can see him in different light conditions, and to what extent. This program is a work in progress. Other tools include sound-dampening materials, camouflage abilities, and various light filters in his mask. Ability Rating: 13+3=16

  • Determined: When he wants something, Ruav goes for it. He is as direct as possible, while at the same time maintaining a low profile. In day to day life, this shows in his attitude towards others. In combat, this shows in his tactics. While he doesn't like to square off with enemies, he does make precise, brutal strikes against the weakest points he can reach. He will go to almost any length to guarantee his survival and to get what he wants. Ability Rating: 13

  • Optimistic Forethought: Ruav not only plans for the near future, but what some may call the end game. He doesn't accept the possibility of failure, and sees any conditions that don't favor him only as setbacks. In a sense, he is insufferably optimistic. However, this has helped him through troubling times more than once. Ability Rating: 13

  • Analytic: Ruav is good at picking up and retaining minute details about certain situations. More often than not, they're inconsequential. However, there have been occasions when small details can save (or help end) a life. Ability Rating: 13

  • Aggressive: Ruav doesn't like to be jerked around, and he doesn't like wasting his time. His aggressive attitude can sometimes help him cut to the point of an issue, or even intimidate some people into cooperating with him. Ability Rating: 13



Flaws: In order of importance.

  • Noncombatant: Ruav is not built for combat. While he is adept at killing, he detests being caught in firefights, preferring to let his machines do the fighting for him. When rounds start flying, Ruav tends to drop quickly into the black, losing his cool and becoming reckless. Flaw Rating: 1M(?)

  • Quarian Exile: Having been exiled from the migrant fleet, Ruav is no longer welcome in most, if not all, quarian dealings. He can expect nothing but silence from any attempts to contact the fleet, and little more than mistrust or outright aggression from individual quarians who are aware of his status.. Flaw Rating: 19

  • Detached: Preferring the company of his artificially intelligent allies, Ruav often finds it difficult to care about or connect with non-synthetics. That said, he is often more interested in killing to get his way than he is in subtly manipulating people to his advantage. Flaw Rating: 13

Hmm. I just got hit with some work. I think I may start this two days from now if I have four or more sheets ready by then. I think I might let Ruav go in the first wave after all, then; and maybe that turian infiltrator too if he's ready by then. There's no shortage of work to be done...

SonofJET, Engineer is already your Keyword so there's no need to duplicate it as an Ability. Something along the lines of Technical Affinity could work. I find it amusing that he has practically no direct combat or social skills, but it seems more or less fitting (and when it comes to combat, sabotage should be more than enough against... most enemies). Aggressive and Irritable seem like two sides of the same coin; I don't mind you keeping both, but you might want to consider replacing the latter with a social flaw along the lines of Traitor or Exile that would hamper him in his dealings with quarians or others who know about the circumstances of his exile (quarians aren't the only ones to be bothered by reckless AI experimentation...).

Aside from that, my main quibble would be about his Pirate thing. I like it in concept but I'd like to know how you want to work it in practice. Does he have a lot of automated ships out there just waiting for his signal, or would he start with little and wait for his fleet to build up? I suppose you have some limiting factors there: his signal would need to get through and then the ship would need to get there in time, which would - at least at first - make it rather hard for him to use this to break the game. Actually I can see how this ability can come in handy as a fallback plan if something goes horribly wrong. :P

Hopefully he'd be able to work with a team of fellow organics despite his personality. But I guess that goes for everyone here.

I'll make the (hopefully) final edits once I get home.

He'd start play with only a few spacecraft in his fleet, none of which are really geared towards anything but getting from point A to B. His main motivation is increasing the size of his fleet, so he can essentially initiate a species-wide taunt towards the migrant fleet. In-game, he'd probably use his skills in the event that a situation calls for either distractions or multiple teams attacking an objective from different directions.

And he can work with others, but it will take some time before he actually begins to care about them as anything more than tools. As long as they don't actively detract from the acquisition of ships or synthetic parts for his dream fleet, he'll be friendly enough.

Okay. I added a link to a googledoc at the top of the first OOC post. There's not much there now, but I'm hoping to expand it as we go to add more relevant information (NPCs, ship details, investigation details, new Codex entries...). For now it's a sheet repository first and foremost - PC sheets are in separate docs that I currently made open to editing in case you wish to change something there. I simplified the way ability ratings are represented there for my own ease of use, not that I don't appreciate the way you guys handled it here, and made some other slight formatting adjustments.

Made the first IC post. Feel free to narrate your arrival, your character's thoughts and anything else that seems relevant up to you going into the apartment. The whole "concise posting" requirement applies more during missions; for now, be as verbose as you like (or don't).
