Rumours have been stirring around the cities and towns; About a mountain, risen from the grave of a fallen empire. A dread king and his soldiers - long since defeated – now once again clamouring for war. Of a once peaceful land overtaken by treacherous swamps and the rotting undead...

Hundreds of years past, a great empire, the Empire of Bones, went to war against the smaller kingdoms scattered around the continent. They were led by the Lich King, a mighty but heinous ruler who ruled with force and cruelty alone. The war was ended when a small group of mercenaries, warriors and adventurers infiltrated their mountain fortress and slew the Lich King and his advisers. Weakened and in a state of disarray, the Empire of Bones soon fell beneath the renewed force of the kingdoms, and the mountain fell.

However a power, far beyond anything conceivable to humans, has summoned the mountain fort once more, and transformed the rolling hills and meadows of the Old Country into a twisted land of dark moors, shadowy forests and dangerous swamps. The neighbouring kingdoms, growing ever more concerned, have sent out a request asking for adventurers, mercenaries and fools willing to infiltrate the mountain. They've promised a handsome sum of gold to any who can return alive, though they don't expect they'll have to pay; None who have travelled to the mountain have returned. Yet.

The mountain is made up of intertwining dungeons filled with armies of the undead, wyverns and other creatures of the night. Each dungeon is controlled by a powerful Lich, who must be killed before the Lich King becomes too powerful. It is your job to do so!

So, this is a dungeon crawler adventure RP where the players will have a large influence on what is going on. Each dungeon has a Lich, and each player will be given the opportunity to control a dungeon (though this would be optional), meaning that the players not only participate in the story, they can craft it.
This is a reboot/remake of a RP that died out very recently because the GM couldn't run it any more, sadly. However, there are a few people who want to keep it going, hence this thing. If you feel you need any more information (about the world, etc) before you decide whether you're interested or not, here is the link to the previous RP:

Be aware, I intend to change some minor details (mainly about the 'Lich King's Curse'), but hopefully nothing that would interfere with any interest or enjoyment of the game. So yeah, if you're interested in this then just pop a comment by and we'll see how this goes.
Also, credit to Scrapula for coming up with the idea and letting us continue on with it.

IMPORTANT NOTE: This RP has started, but we're looking for more players. If you're not sure, come on over to the OOC - there's more information to be found there! roleplayerguild.com/topics/126960-empi..

It sounds really interesting, but as of right now I don't get as much free time as I'd like (but still might be able to make time for it). How long and frequent do you prefer the posts?

@NinthDecay Well, personally I'd prefer quality (just things like being able to actually understand the post, nothing too fancy!) and frequency over length, so I'd say at least one paragraph (four lines, maybe?) every couple of days. However, it's actually really up to what is convenient for the players, and I know we also have somebody else who has exams, so if you would need more time then I'm sure that would be fine!

@NowIGiveUpThat sounds fair. How many more people do we need?

@NinthDecay Well, we have four already, although that includes me as the GM. I'll probably wait 1-2 more days to see if this gets any more interest, and then open up an OOC!

So we are a band of warriors whom travel under the mountain to fight the Lich Kings forces in the dungeons. But if our character dies they become one of the baddies and we have to face off against the other players? Is that correct or am I getting this wrong?

@Brink I can see where you got that from, and actually I think that would probably have been correct in the original RP. However, the rules on undead resurrection and the Lich King Curse are the main things I'm going to be changing, and I'm afraid what you suggested won't be the case. However, the character will either become undead (with plenty of negative side effects, to avoid death becoming something that may happen and will be of no consequence to the RP), or the character will simply be dead and we'll find some way to integrate a new character into the RP. Unless, of course, somebody can find something wrong with either of those two options, I'll be putting that up to vote in the OOC to see which one people prefer. I hope that helps!

Alright so this is more of a simple Medieval dungeon crawl?

each player will be given the opportunity to control a dungeon (though this would be optional), meaning that the players not only participate in the story, they can craft it.

It's that part that's confusing me I think.

@Brink Haha yeah, I'm a little confused myself now, but OK, so I'll try to explain a little better. So there are several Liches, each with their own dungeon. Each dungeon will be controlled by a different player who will act as the GM for that dungeon, controlling, npcs, enemies and guiding the group in the right direction. Each player will have the chance to be the GM for a dungeon, however they will still have their own character that is in the party. In essence, the RP will consist of separate dungeons that act as something similar to mini-games, and each player takes turns to control their own mini-game until it is completed and the group moves on to the next one, controlled by a different player. There will be no player character versus player character, only player character versus the environment (which is controlled by another player.). Haha I've probably either explained the wrong thing or made it worse. Oh well...

No I understand. Unfortunately I'm not very interested in that idea. I wish you luck though, I hope this goes well for you.

Okay, so I'm interested in this, but like, would I be able to play a necromancer who happens to oppose the idea of this big undead kingdom? Or are they all lawful evil?

@Brink I'm sorry this wasn't for you, but thanks for taking the time to find more out about it. Better luck next time.
@dereken Yes that would definitely be acceptable, in fact it sounds like a very interesting idea. No they don't all have to be lawful evil.

@NowIGiveUpHow do you feel about a blaster cannon that runs off magical energy? I was looking through some MMORPGs and I saw someone using it, and I kind of want to have it as a last-resort weapon for my character (elf/long-ranger, I know, real original right?) because I figured it would be heavy with a long recharge time, but I'm not quite sure if it fits with the genre.

If you do not mind, I know my thief from before was a bit overly D&D'd so I'd like a second chance with someone beside my rogue.

@knighthawk No, I'm afraid you've messed up your opportunity to join.

@NinthDecay Well, I would like to keep this a more high fantasy-y, medieval sort of world, with little to no steampunk or up-to-date tech elements in it. This does mean nothing like guns, electricity, lights (torchlight is fine of course...), traditional cannons, etc, as I'd prefer characters to be not too... overpowered. However, it sounds like an interesting idea, and I'd definitely accept it if it was maybe tweaked a bit to fit in with the genre. You've already said that it will involve magic, maybe it could be a channelling type device for the magic, (something similar to a staff)? Of course that's just one idea, if you can think of another way to make it fit the criteria then that would be great! I'm really sorry.

@dereken, @Disciple Cain, @Sigurd, @NinthDecay, @knighthawk, now that we have a fair amount of people, I'll get working on the OOC. It should be up sometime tonight, or tomorrow!

@NowIGiveUp It's pretty much a claw-like device that attaches to his arm that can gather and fire magical energy (which is why I called it a blaster). He can only use it about once a day or so, and it's pretty much like firing a spell, except it's only offensive since it's just energy.

@NinthDecay Yeah, okay! I was a little worried about things getting too mechanical/tech-y, but no, that sounds great! So just to get a sense, how powerful would it be? Using a scale of, 'kill an undead immediately' to 'kill a Lich immediately'.

@NowIGiveUpProbably more like 'kill an undead'. It could (sort of) damage a Lich, but it would be more like a small, unnoticeable bruise or something to them.

@NowIGiveUpOh, I didn't even know this thread existed until you tagged me. The characters remain the same or do we make new ones?
