@Entropsy I like this race a lot, and I'm excited to see more about your character. I'm a little concerned about them being overpowered, because they have a lot of RP-relevant strengths and only a few weaknesses, some of which seem a little too specific to affect the RP or your character very often. You say that they're easy to cripple and not inherently gifted combatants, but this seems contradictory to the fact that they're very strong and agile. One thing I really like about this race is that you say they're quite anarchistic and typically drawn to less-than-legal lines of work. I think that would make for a very interesting character. Overall, I'm impressed, though I would like you to be a little more specific about your race's strengths and weaknesses.
Alright then, can do! I suppose I was thinking more of a rogue type when I created them and 'not built for combat' was a poor choice. It more along the lines of a light-armor, fast-attacks, and those kind usually are easier to cripple RPG-wise. (To be perfectly honest I was thinking khajiit).
Another weakness I didn't mention was that Kite himself is still a child (22 compared to a 300 year life span) and while stronger and smarter than a human child in certain ways, he's weak compared to an adult of his race and the other characters, assuming that they're all older than him from here on out
In any case, I'll be on later tonight to finish them. Do you have any ideas as to how I can nerf these guys, what I should modify them to? I'm drawing blanks here.
I don't think they need significantly altered, If you could clear up what I mentioned in my previous post (mostly the strong/agile vs. combat thing I brought up).
Appearance: Signs of age have already shown on his face. His beard, previously brown, is now speckled with white. His face is now slightly wrinkled, and he has a hairline that is beginning to recede. He stands at 5 feet and 5 inches. Despite his aging form, in his eyes he is still as youthful as a child, as they sparkle with wonder at even the most mundane of things. Name: Jim Virkenoff Gender: Male Race: Terran Age: 44 Faction: Unaffiliated Job: Unemployed Abilities: No racial abilities Skills: Jim has a near eidetic memory, is skilled in playing an old instrument called the "guitar", and when he talks, people tend to listen. Backstory: Jim is an old soul who has devoted his life to anecdotes. He was once a stubborn man, not willing to hear the opinions of other people. One day, he and his own mother had a clash of opinion. They threw harsh words at each other, and in the end she banished him from his own home. Realizing his mistake, he vowed never to voice an opinion again. He roamed the galaxy, doing nothing but eat, sleep, and listen to other's stories. From when he was 17 to now, he has heard countless tales of all things. He has stopped now at Kilik Station to share his wisdom, and perhaps gain some as well.
@bloonewb I don't see anything that breaks any rules, pretty simple character, fact of having a normal human/terran is neat. so I'd say his accepted. Just in future note when using some terms that have multiple names, use the more common or simple one for convenience of others. I had to search up Eidetic memory to find out it was Photographic memory.
@MonsieurShade hey man, lol eh I've been in action, it's just our old rp wasn't making any progress thanks to our third member not being there for multiple days. which sucks some of those old roleplays that I really wanted to progress just end up dying because people just forget about them or something :( I guess I'll start some 1x1's in regards to my old rps and see just how much 1x1 versions can progress.
This roleplay is a lot more open ended than our previous one so you have a lot more options available.
@Entropsy there is one thing I do want you to explain some and that's the fact they are more brittle than humans where they can be cripple yet can survive a 30 foot drop on their legs without injury.
@ladyanglaise@MonsieurShade@eemmtt The roleplay will start in 2-3 days depending on how long it takes for me to finish up the NPCs and make sure
Appearance: Name: Rakans'mei Jakarta (Accepts being called "Rocky") - He stands at about 8'4" and weighs in at 493 lbs (he's small by his race's standards). He dislikes most forms of clothing as a whole but is willing to tolerate wearing cargo pants and tank tops. Gender: Male Age: 32 terran years Race: Skälen Race description:
Named for their appearance by the terran colony that discovered them, the Skälen are a race of reptilian humanoids indigenous to a densely forested heavy gravity planet located within the Khosi system. A combination of heavy gravitational pull and higher oxygen concentrations within the atmosphere has allowed this race to reach rather sizable proportions, with the largest of their number typically measuring somewhere around thirteen feet tall and weighing in at nearly seven hundred pounds. This predatory race is nomadic in nature, moving whenever a prey source has been depleted in an area. Despite their aggressive appearance the Skälen are a fairly social people within their own ranks and will form small to medium sized tribes comprised of both related an non related members alike. It is the common belief of many that the Skälen are a dimwitted race due to their lack of both architecture and any technology above that of the terran bronze age, however this is not entirely the case. While it is true that the Skälen aren't likely to start building ships of their own anytime soon they have nonetheless proven themselves to be quick enough learners to have at least earned themselves a place within the galactic community.
They are particularly favored by other races as a cheap and effective workforce due to the fact that a Skälen will often accept payment in food rather than in actual currency. The Skälen fulfill a similar role in society to the Zarats, in that they are typically hired in labor or combat intensive roles such as miners, mercenaries, pirates, or cargo movers.
Skälen have very little sexual dimorphism to speak of beyond a difference in size, with males typically reaching ten feet on average while females reach around six.
Faction: Talon Merc Company (Rocky has worked out an interesting agreement: His higher ups pocket most of his pay in exchange for his food expenses being covered. It's hard to say who actually benefits more at this point) Faction Description: (again only if making one) Job: Security officer, "lab assistant" (He just moves heavy stuff and helps capture specimens every now and then. Really he just likes the title.) Abilities: Rocky is capable of lifting twice his body weight with a bit of effort. Being from a heavy gravity world has also gifted the Skälen with startling speed when he's placed in an environment with "normal" gravity. The trade off for this is that living on a high oxygen rock means that he can get short of breath very quickly Skills: As with all adult members of his race Rocky is an experienced hunter and is capable of tracking and bringing down nearly anything around his size in short order. His hulking form paired with natural weaponry makes him a formidable fighter as well. That is if one could consider "rip and tear until it stops moving" fighting.
Backstory: There's not really much to say: Rocky was simply another guy that found a calling as merc and was stationed on Kilik station
Personality: Rocky is a fairly laid back and amiable individual in spite of the fact that looking at him often gives people the impression that he'll eat your face for insulting him. He knows full well that he's not exactly the smartest or friendliest looking guy that a person will meet, but he tries to make up for it by following his orders to the best of his abilities or otherwise helping wherever and whenever he can, provided of course that he still receives his payments on time. Slow to anger but even slower to calm, it's ill advised to get in Rocky's way once he's on the war path.
Other: Rocky received his nickname due to his distinctively rough voice. Think Kevin Grevioux if he'd just spent the entire day smoking cigars and gargling nails.
Thinner bones, better joints & landing? It's objectively easier to cripple a house-cat than a human yet we still have this video of a cat jumping off a telephone pole. If he strikes you & co-gm as too improbable or OP, I can just make a zarat or something. I honestly just wanna have fun, not worry about the particulars of a fictional species. No offense meant.
@Entropsy it's just the simple thing that you didn't explain why they can somehow survive this jump/fall with no injuries yet can easily be crippled by others, that's really only thing that gets me right now sense it has no explanation in your CS, if had an explanation in there he would be just fine.
