Oh yeah, @Raineh Daze, Cloacina's reference to Jen as a barbarian is perfectly accurate. She's an Anglo-Saxon, a descendant of the Germanic foederati that was subsidised by Rome to fight its wars. Roman Britain was a thing, of course, but it the Romano-Britons aren't the English, really. The Saxons only began to move into Britain after the decline of the Empire.

... Except from the part where she's from Cornwall and therefore mostly not. >.>

Thought I put that in the bio but I apparently forgot.

@Raineh Daze The surname "White" is an Anglo-Saxon one, rather than being of Cornish or Welsh origin.

I would like to introduce you to deed polls.

@Crimmy: The Scaglietti drone was just physical damage. Which, for how bad the injury was, she bounced back from remarkably quickly. The only time her Linker Core had anything done to it was during the Book of Darkness incident, where it regenerated relatively quickly and was perfectly fine. I mean, Nanoha's completely ridiculous power-wise in StrikerS so I'm pretty sure she's okay in that regard.

... Buuuut this isn't really relevant to the point was I making. ^^;

Attacks can be perfectly nonlethal, but when things go wrong it's less predictable.

Deed polls that are legally recognised by a Germanic royal family.

Deed polls in a country that with Germanic cultural roots and a national identity mostly influenced by a Germanic culture.

And did the White family make sure to engage in highly selective marriages to keep their Cornish blood pure of any Germanic taint?

So? This just establishes that you can't determine ancestry by looking at surname.

And did the White family make sure to engage in highly selective marriages to keep their Cornish blood pure of any Germanic taint?

... have you just declared several emperors barbarians rather than citizens? O_o

A barbarian could still become an Emperor.

But after fifteen hundred years, is Jen really a Romano-Briton, or Anglo-Cornish?

An irrelevant question, as I don't recall the edict of Caracalla suddenly not applying. Ethnological lines make no damn difference, because the citizenry was composed mostly of non-Italians towards the end. Either everybody's a barbarian now because the Empire doesn't exist, or anybody from within its former bounds isn't. >.>

The Edict of Caracalla is irrelevant to whether or not Jen could be considered a barbarian. Given the term was essentially used to refer to foreigners, especially Germanics near the end (such as the foederatus), Cloacina views Jen as being a descendant of said Germanics (specifically, the Saxons) in some way, thus applies the label of 'barbarian' to her.

And due to immigration, emigration, invasion, and Italy being in pieces for the better part of one and a half thousand years, the initial summary applies: either damn near everyone's a barbarian, or nobody is.

She's either not a barbarian because that would be applying arbitrarily specific criteria, or is because everyone is.

This is not the most relevant argument to be having, I'll be honest. ^^;

I mean, the characters would disagree on this but I don't want too much of the OOC taken up by it.

I'm making an IC post now but I do still expect the second person to be edited since I find it hard to read.

To Cloacina, damn near everyone's a barbarian, yes.

On another note, I'm incredibly amused that we've managed to keep this up for this long. It's fun.

Something has been bugging me for a while now. Do users of magitech devices receive some sort of generic boost? At least in the survivability department.

It has been sort of implied thus far but I must have missed it if anything about it was said in the main post.

That was meant to be the case, actually, yes. I didn't directly state it but I figured the implication was enough.
