High-Casual. Still open.
It's 2019.
Three years ago the apocalypse occurred.
The bizarre thing was that there were no nukes. No zombies. No alien invasion.
In fact, it kind of came and went without anything spectacular happening. One day in mid-2016, people just started dying. Some kind of airborne blood disease, incredibly contagious. It is thought that it originated in Asia, and spread across the world. After six months it had reached almost every corner of the earth. Anyone that was exposed to it died within a day, their blood poisoning them from the inside.
Though some hid and sheltered from the disease, it eventually caught up with them. The world population saw such a drop that extinction was a serious threat. But a glimmer of hope shone through. A very small population of people were completely unaffected by the disease, even if they were in close contact with those who had contracted it. It later came to light that the survivors had the rare AB negative blood type, and that a characteristic of the blood type protected them from contracting the disease. Due to only 0.6% of world population having this blood type, a general statistic was finally available, and it was estimated that 99.5% of the human race was gone.
There had been riots and chaos all throughout the second half of 2016, but it was around Christmas when things truly fell in to total disarray. America had been cut off from the rest of the world. Hell, most states were cut off from eachother. Electricity was now a rare commodity due to the fact that the vast majority of power suppliers had been shut down. The last news that managed to cross the country was the great tragedy of New Jersey, as a nuclear power factory exploded and left the entire state a nuclear fallout zone. The country turned in to a battle-zone. The country was now lawless, and was full of bandits and criminals.
As things always do, the situation eventually settled down. "Townships" were set up across the country, small communities living together, with armed forces to protect the elderly and young from the terrors of outside. For the most part, people survived, as they had enough food to keep them alive for lifetimes, but they had the constant threat of bandits and scavengers biting at their heels.
Illinois remains one of the most populous states in America, but instead of 12 million citizens, the number isn't even 100,000. There are many Townships dotted around the state, most of which being around the Chicago area. Within the Townships there is relative order and peace, but over the last year or two it has been a dangerous place to live outside of the walls of safety. Most Townships now close their doors to new people, meaning that if you're not already in one, you're fucked. Day by day, more Townships are being torched and taken over by bandits.
Of course, the Hatfield Township, a peaceful compound built inside a college on the outskirts of Chicago has a reputation for being safe-and-sound. You are not at risk being there, surely.
That's what you though before yesterday. Now it's tomorrow.
Hatfield Township:
Our story starts here. Hatfield Township. Formerly Hatfield University, one of the biggest colleges in the state, built less than a mile away from the local High School. When everything went to shit, many of the people in the area ventured here. Due to the fact many college and high school students lived in the area, the majority of the population of the township is quite young in age (14-24 when the apocalypse occurred, 17-27 now), and as a result has a reputation for being productive and safe.
They have weapons that they stole from the local army base and have walls surrounding the campus, meaning that they are never bothered by bandits. The civilians have free-roam around the former campus. The township is ran very strictly by one of the former professors of the college, Professor. Martins. He does not allow any refugees in to the township and keeps a constant check on the behaviour of the people of the township, using the old geography building as "solitary confinement" for misbehaving citizens.
Rules:
-Kinda High Casual so a certain level of writing is expected. Mistakes are forgiven but don't apply if you put in half effort. Absolutely no one liners.
-If you go inactive for a long period of time without notice, your character will be killed off. I'm not going to wait around.
-Put AB- as your blood type if you read this. Pretty obvious since it's in the background of the RP.
-Mature themes such as gore and language are acceptable. Obviously there is a certain line that you shouldn't cross though.
-Have fun.
