@Primal Conundrum I don't get how voice chat would be a factor that makes anyone abandon an idea. Especially with the fact that you can chat if the other talk but w/e

@Deserted I had this idea for an RP where a group of colonists are stuck on an ocean planet because of >insert event<. They settle on islands, and all make their best to turn their own island profitable and help the community. Maybe each of us own an island, do our daily stuff. But that would be boring, so there would be events every day we have to solve. From monster attacks, to giant storms and EM interference in the radio comms. A slice of life thingy. Jsut a suggestion, I have many more :P

@6slyboy6Interesting. I had an idea for one where we we were settling a planet or island and either have to make the stuff ourselves or buy it from somewhere. It would mostly be a character development RP, though we could have plenty of wild stuff on the island/planet if we want some action.

I think we could try a freeform game to start, something simple, in a genre were all comfortable with. Here are a few ideas off the cuff:

'Knights/soldiers escort royalty through hostile territory'

'investigate anomaly on space station/strange planet's

'A floating labyrinth appears over the kingdom, monsters emerge, start attacking'

'A portal opens from ___ to ____'

It sounds like your concept could use being fleshed out a little @6slyboy6 I haven't had too many sandbox/slice of life combo games really turn into anything more than "listen to this cool idea" sort of thing. I've noticed that they have a tendency to have buckets of drama heaped on them just to try to make SOMETHING happen. I DO like colonist thing, that is usually pretty diverse in plots, and pretty easy to generate them.

@TheUnknowableDude, I have been wanting to do a game that keeps actual invention and development as a world changer. I tried to run something along those lines called Broken Utopia that is basically at the end of the stone age, beginning of the copper age and your characters have knowledge from the modern era. I think people view it as a lot of work or flat out confusing, though.

So far as I go, I'm kind of hungry to do (run or play) some classic fantasy only keep it character driven instead of a dungeon crawl. I also was thinking of having it to where combat and danger is not determined by the players (use of a rules light or rules system could be an option but not required) so that it stays exciting.

@Polybius Ooh, I like the idea. We could do this adventure by adventure instead of massive campaigns! Is that what you were thinking?

Oops, yea I figured that was the best way to distill a bunch of like-minded gamers.

So, what do you guys say to that? We will run one adventure at a time, and then if we feel so inclined we can ask one of our GMs to run a campaign (with a defined end of course so that nobody monopolizes the time GMing)

Does this sound like a good idea to everybody? If so, gimme a thumbs up. @Primal Conundrum@Clanty@6slyboy6@DJAtomika@TheUnknowable@Polybius@Darcs

The ideas I've been having lately are predominantly fantasy themed.

I don't find normal school / academy RPs to be interesting, but I recently starting thinking about putting that premise in a location where it doesn't often see use: savage fantasy. I'm thinking of a setting wherein monstrous races such as Trolls, Goblins and Gnolls have reached a certain level of cooperation to the point where there are some anarchic, monstrous cities beginning to crop up. In one of these cities is the first attempt at a school BY the savage races and FOR the savage races. Subjects range from history of the Orcish clan wars to studying the strange, almost unique traditions of magic that the different races have developed. Naturally, fight training would take the place of gym. I don't have a specific plot in mind for that one, but I feel like there are a lot of possibilities open. It's like a violent, inner-city Hogwarts with less supervision and rules. Campus might not be as impressive, but considering that the students have free roam of the town when they aren't in class? Should be enough space for plot hooks to emerge.

I still want to do a vehicle-heavy fantasy game too, like Mad Max meets D&D. Tried that before, learned some things about how not to run a group, would like to do it again and do it properly.

Hmm... other idea I had was an old one, but one I've never been able to try. It's sort of a post-apoc one, though not wasteland-y. Premise is that nuclear war had become a reality on Earth, and many factions were trying to find ways to survive the income destruction. One such attempt was an experimental facility with the goal of realizing time travel in a usable form. They got most of the way to succeeding before a bomb fell near the facility, and the ensuing wave of radiation triggered the incomplete machine, tearing open a ragged wormhole forward in time and sucking in anyone near the event, completely leveling the entire facility in the process.

Cut to the future. Civilization is dead, but Man survives. The travelers from the past find themselves in a world that, in some ways, adapted well to the radiation. Rising sea levels have resulted in huge swaths of the North American interior looking like the amazon rain forest, and the cities are drowning under the mesozoic-looking megaflora. The natives who live in this world have regressed to a hunter-gatherer existence, taking up spears to go forage and hunt in the overgrown city ruins. Though strong, agile, and well-informed about how to survive in their world, the future natives lack any ability to read (though their spoken language remains similar enough to modern tongues to be understandable) or other elements of higher education that are taken for granted in the modern day.
This is the world that the travelers from the past find themselves in. With the hole in time dumping them unceremoniously into this Tarzan-meets-Fallout world, they have to lean on the future natives to teach them how to function in this terrifying new world. The future natives, in turn, could benefit from the advanced knowledge carried by the travelers from the past. Perhaps the city isn't as deteriorated as it first appears, and someone with the correct understanding might be able to still use some of the ancient systems, be they hydro, lights, or something else. Naturally there are threats in this world, the descendants of the few mutated horrors that proved to not only be functional, but actually better suited to this new world.

I don't have a specific goal for that RP beyond daily life and survival, but I like the premise.

@Primal Conundrum Pretty cool idea. I like it.

*Weird and probably stupid idea* I had an idea so that we aren't constantly making characters if we choose to have a number of adventures. Why don't we just say that they are dimensional travelers that get absorbed by their environment. Therefore a snarky sneaky-thiefy person in one adventure is still a snarky sneaky-thiefy person in another adventure. Only in one they have mad ninja training, and another they have a mutant super-power. Personality is the same, background is similar, performance is similar, maybe even name and picture are about the same. That way we don't have to constantly go back to the drawing board. This, of course, would be for those not WANTING to make a new character, you can (of course) make a new one if you want.

An idea I just had:

Five hundred years in the future the United Earths Alliance has spread out its borders to include several dozen systems and several hundred worlds. The people are forbidden to travel outside of Alliance territory out of fear of the hostile aliens they have been at war with for hundreds of years, as one group of aliens after another attack us in an attempt to conquer our worlds. All legal communication within the Alliance is done by quantum entanglement, a method of communication which has virtually no delay and no limit on range.

We are a group of people who gather enough money to by a ship. We do so for the express purpose of leaving the Alliance and investigating strange signals illegal hyper-radios have detected outside of the Alliances domain.

It would basically be a sandbox, though we as players will know that not all aliens are hostile and that they are trying to contact us. The Alliance has been invading them to expand its territory sense shortly after humans first entered space.

edit: One thing I forgot to add that I thought would make it even more fun is for us to have Psionic powers which, one the various ships systems are upgraded with a "Psi controller" could be combined with a system to improve it in a way unique to the power. For example, electrokinesis would make the reactor use the energy it produces more efficient, but telekinesis would make it burn fuel faster and possibly more completely, and pyrokinesis would make it burn hotter, so it could fuse things faster and use different fuels. Some powers wouldn't effect some systems, like putting someone with telekinesis on communications. A telepath on communications would increase the range or efficiency of the system, though.

Oops, forgot to do an "opposed" post to our adventure based game.
Okay, so I'm taking it that @TheUnknowable and @6slyboy6 are not wanting to do the adventure game then. Is this correct?

@TheUnknowable The idea of having a series of adventures (like 1 episode long) run by different GM's and can be in different generas, rather than a sandbox or a campaign. I asked for a vote right before Primal mentioned his game concept about a dead super-future.

Look for the big "vote here" Otherwise

Vote Here

...if you DON'T want to do a bunch of un-linked adventures by liking this post.

So, if you don't want to, even if we get the majority voting opposed to you, explain why because maybe we have missed something.

Ok, I thought you were talking about a specific game concept.

I was actually typing out a suggestion about it yesterday when my phone backed out and deleted it. Basically, I wanted to add a "if people lose interest we start a vote for a replacement" clause. Also an "another round of a specific RP" option being possible in case an idea is really popular.

I actually like this plan, it allows for flexibility. We can drop a game if it doesn't turn out well, and we can keep one going if we find we get into it.

Sorry about that Primal. I just kind of default "He, Him, His" as when you don't know the gender. I know they changed it recently, but old habits are hard to break.

So, it looks like everybody is in. How about I kick us off with a 1 shot campaign that sets the stage, and we all develop some character concepts and roles we prefer (so that we don't step on each other's toes) and then we can go from there.

I will actually build a game for us and post the link to the OOC.

The game title will be "Rift Runners."

I look at avatars and titles if the name isn't a give away, and then default to "them/they". Primal has a female avatar and the title "Amazonian", though, so I would have said "her".

Wow, I dunno if this is still open, but it sounds like a pretty cool idea. I've not had the chance to look through all the posts as I'm currently experiencing brainfreeze, but I'll pose my question: can I join you merry lot?

EDIT: The Rift Runners idea sounds cool, too! In what style will the RP be run? D&D style (I'm not familiar with it D:) or the usual play-by-post with no dice throwing and all that jazz?
