It was cold. Colder then a winter should be. Maybe it was because the clouds over head, maybe it was just in my head. I had lost my horse to it by the side of the trail. She was just a small white hill in the distance as I walked away. I had no choice, no time to mourn or the cold would claim me as well. A few miles in I no longer felt my feet. The light in the distance of the town kept me moving. I couldn't tell the last time I felt munch of anything. By the time I reached the main street into that town I was more of a figure from those scary stories mothers told children to keep them safe. My body heat kept a thin layer of snow melted to my coat and clothes. This of course attracted more snow till I was a white demon. The smoke of my breath did little to change this opinion. As I got to the door of the tavern I made sure to stomp my feet trying to remove some of the snow before I entered.

The handle was iron and warmer then my hand was. As the door swung inward the warmth hit the skin on my face making it sting once more. I took one step inside and shut it behind me. The tavern workers looked at me with suspicion before returning to their choirs. I walked over to the hearth and stood to one side letting the fire thaw my body. I heard the man behind the desk clear his throat. A slight turn of my head and a glare from under my hood told him to wait. After my fingers responded to the heat I turned my attention to the portly man that had folded his arms across his chest. his eyes told the uncertainty behind his outward demeanor. I reached into my coat and laid the coins on the counter. Before his hand went to collect I raised mine with two fingers extended. The owner sighed and nodded as he turned his back to me. He reached to a hook and withdrew the key. Resting it on the counter as our hands traded positions to pick up the new objects He took one of the coin and bit into it. Too cold to be insulted I left.

I headed up the stairs and to the room with the symbol 'V' on the key. Opening the door the thought of rest left me. She was there. Sitting in a wooden rocker on the far side of the room. Her dark black hair catching the fires light making look almost like...
"Victoria." I bowed more to mask my fear then offer any social politeness. She half smiled the way she normally did. Her blue eyes made me hold my breath for a moment. "Damn!" I thought, She still had sway over me. Shaking my head i began to remove the cold weather garb from my body.

"You ran far this time lover. How shall I punish you?" Her body though pale looked warm from the lanterns flame. She was beautiful....

The year was just before the second age and the landscape covered in snow. I, I was a favorite for a daughter of legend. Her amusement for over a decade. Wherever I walked she followed and where she was death followed.
