Personality: Kayla's mind is always running, her mind deconstructing everything into calculations. If she did x at y, then what would be z? She thinks in numbers, but she also has the capacity to think very articulately. No matter how good someone is at math, you cannot break emotions down into numbers. Kayla does have problems expressing herself and her emotions properly, due to the fact that she was raised in a household where feelings were very rarely articulated and expressed. She bottles up everything inside, the only glimpses of what she feels are shown by very tiny quirks on her face.
She prefers to be alone, or alone with her child. She understands the value of teamwork and being able to form relationships with her peers, but it's not something she likes to do. Not since her ex had destroyed her trust a while back. She finds it very hard to trust people as well, fearing that she'd be let down as hard as she was from her ex. The memory of the betrayal, the pain she felt is all too fresh in her mind and her heart, stemming into issues that manifest themselves into now significant elements of Kayla's personality. She wasn't always like this.

What Brings You to Dunder Mifflin: The whole business smelled fishy from the start, but the pay was good. As soon as Kayla had graduated from the University of Washington, she was approached by a company based in Bellevue, Washington. Promptly accepting the job, she took up a job among the adequately sized accounting department. Life was going smoothly until the president, CEO, and CFO of the company were all found to be embezzling money from the company as well as conducting insider trading with rival companies. The president, CEO, and CFO were all sentenced to time in prison and the company was promptly disbanded. Now that Kayla was out of a job and she had a daughter to support, the search for a job had become very urgent. She was willing to separate herself from her home state for anything. Reaching out to a friend, they had directed her to Dunder Mifflin, where she had applied for the accounting job.
Life Up To This Point: Born in Seattle, Washington, Kayla Rose Moon had become a member of an average Korean household. She had one older brother, and later along had one younger sister. She had been raised in a typical Asian fashion, high expectations that only grew higher as they reached them. As they grew older and became more skilled in tae kwon doe (which was mandated by their father, who made a living out of operating his own dojo), their parents started to really realize their potential and started to put them in all sorts of programs.
Each Moon sibling had their own specialty, and Kayla's just happened to be math. However, she didn't intend on having math be the only thing to her. She took up competitive swimming at the start of fifth grade, and also dominated in that sport. It took her all the way through high school, and landed her into the University of Washington, allowing her to become an accounting major while representing her school in swim meets. However, Kayla knew that her prowess in swimming wasn't going to last forever. At some point she was going to have to call it quits, and thus that lead her to choose accounting. Accountants made good money, and had stable careers, which was perfect for Kayla.
After graduating from college, Kayla had put her swimming career second as she had signed up with the aforementioned company as an accountant. She had a brief stint where she decided that she wanted to try going for the 2008 Beijing Olympics representing the United States. She made it onto the team, but she didn't past the first heat in the qualifying rounds in Beijing. After her Olympic stint, Kayla had gone back to her quiet life as an accountant. Life had been that way even past the 2012 London Olympics.
It wasn't until 2014 when Kayla's life had taken a big turn. She had met this person at a bar one night, and they hit it off. Perhaps a little too well. Drinks, good chemistry, and unprotected consensual sex were never a good combination. And then one day, Kayla discovered she was pregnant. She had told the person she was with about it as soon as she found it, and they swore that they'd stay by her side. It was foolish of Kayla to trust them. Kayla had gotten married about eight months into their marriage to the person who had gotten her pregnant, adopting their last name. And about a few weeks after that, Kelly Penelope Archer was born.
However, one day, when Kelly was about eight months old, Kayla's spouse had filed for divorce, justifying it with the intention of them not wanting to raise the child. Kayla was shocked by this, but ultimately had to agree. She retained her spouse's last name, and full custody of the child as she was now left to raise the child by herself. Kayla had the luxury of a stable job until the company folded, and that was when she was brought to Dunder Mifflin.
