@OrlanI like the clerical error. I think a Comm Officer would be a nice position for an aging man. You just need to wait the prescribed 24 hour period.

@Blue Demon Digging has revealed that the Presedent of the Federation at the time was Min Zife

"2373-2379: Min Zife (Bolian male)" - a list of presedents from the book Articles of the Federation

This information was not what I was looking for while digging.... I was reading about Gorn

I can see no posible way that a Gorn would have been in the Federation in 2374. they did briefly fight along side The Federation in 2375 in the final months of the Dominion War (according to one graphic novel and the book mentioned above) but before hand they had been in a civil war for an unknown period of time.

They also didnt like The Federation at all, and later in 2381 they joined an alliance as an opposing force to the United Federation of Planets and its allies. The pact consisted of the Romulan Star Empire, Tzenkethi Coalition, Breen Confederacy, Gorn Hegemony, Tholian Assembly and the Holy Order of the Kinshaya, all of which had hostile relations with the Federation and all of which had typically previously maintained xenophobic and isolationist policies.Ref

But if @Chev can come up with a good argument, like he did with the Romulan (not too many of them in The Federation, hehe) then it'll be ok. it'll have to be very convincing though

I can always do a different race :) I just thought it would be interesting to see a Gorn running around on the ship xD I was thinking of doing a different race anyway.

And I did forget to tell you that you could.

Have I missed anyone else?

Rank change to Jovar. When I created my character I noticed no one had chosen the position of Second Officer, which is what Lt. Commander Data served as in ST:TNG. Therefore, I selected Jovar to be a Lt. Commander and hold the position of Second Officer. Then, when Xiril Poxx was selected as Helmsman and holding the rank of Lt. Commander, it contradicted everything my military mind knows. I cannot unlearn what I know. Since the Helmsman and Tactical Officers serve in the same department, there can only be one Lt. Commander. It does not jive right to have two department heads. I chatted with DeadBeatWalking about this. His character, Lt. Commander Xiril Poxx will serve as Helmsman and Second officer of the ship (third in command). My character Lieutenant Jovar will serve as Tactical Officer; maintains all weapon systems and uses torpedoes and Phasers when ordered as well as hailing frequencies and sensor arrays. I have adjusted his rank on my CS to reflect that he is a Lieutenant, not a Lieutenant Commander. Pardon me. It may appear anal retentive to some of you, but I am a retired Infantry Officer and it would be very wrong if I left it like that.

On another note, as i read your Character Sheets, I am writing notes on relationships and perceptions Lt. Jovar has of your character. It should help me in keeping track of his reactions to your characters in character. It is a habit I picked up from HeySeuss many years ago; a tool that works very well for me.

Surely Henry would handle hailing frequencies.

As I recall from TNG, it was always the Chief of Security handling those matters - Tasha Yar, and then Worf?

I just thought that was because they wouldn't bring aboard a communications officer.

Little edited in point: It's also something I imagine a communications officer fiddling about with.

The Communications officer would handle all internal and external communications duties.

And what of the weapons systems? Would the Security Officer and Tactical Officer convene in this area?

Saw that yesterday. Few notes:

Vash is technically one of the older people on the ship (she's around 60-something), with experience as both a battle field commander and experience as a special operator (hence her mission from Starfleet Intelligence). In terms of overall experience she's shorter than the ideal Starfleet capital ship CO, sure, but at this point in the war you have precious, precious, few Picards and Siskos. Meaning the ideal ship CO candidate isn't very practical right now. But compare her to, say, James T. Kirk at a similar point in their careers and she dwarfs him in the area of experience. The war sped up the timelines of many careers by warp speeds: Sisko would've been a flag officer when the dust settled had he not gone all cosmic, for example.

She destroyed two Gor'Taans (Memory Alpha calls them simply 'Breen warships'), not one, during the Gold Squad incident.

I got nothing for "seat of her pants" command style--this is just true. Sorta. She's fairly by the book except when it comes to combat; there she trusts the instincts that got her this far.

She's into intergalactic MMA: that is, she's mixed Romulan, Vulcan, Andorian, human, even some Klingon martial arts--crafting her own unique brand of hand-to-hand combat, combined with Vulcan strength, durability, and touch telepathy. She rarely spars with non-holograms, maybe it can be a sub-plot that the Klingon officer tries to talk her into it?

The Tactical systems of the starship? That'd be Tactical, yeah.

Vash will try to board every enemy vessel they come up against, so the Security Chief will still have plenty to do and remain fairly busy. (She wants the vessels, themselves, for Utopia Planitia/SF Intel--she gave the Breen warship she commandeered to Intel so they can run black ops with it, for example--but if nothing else she wants as much as she can get of an enemy's computer core.) She's out to win a war, not just a battle, and she knows intel/info is everything and the best way to get that is security teams putting boots on enemy decks.

So, yeah, I wouldn't worry about Security sitting around bored.

I think comms need to be notified of that too... I have a feeling poor old Henry will be laiden with work since he'd be dealing with either a full ship to keep in constant check or a lot of information to handle.
