Denali stood at the mouth of the den watching the surrounding forests ever so vigilantly, his eyes catching each little movement. He peeked over his shoulder to take a look deeper into the den, able to hear the rest of the small pack sleeping heavily inside. With a small smile, Denali took a deep breath as he stretched out his body and began to pad off through the clearing. The Betas could handle keeping a watch on things while he was gone. Denali felt it was a good morning for a border patrol. He was strong enough to take a few wolves on by himself, he'd done it before. He'd also battled the previous Alpha and won that fight, as well, given his fresh status as an Alpha. He'd only been the Alpha of Shadow Ridge Pack for the last year and a half, but he felt he had been born to be one.

Before Denali was Alpha, he'd been an Omega but only due to the fact the Alpha didn't much like Denali. Denali was young and reckless, and the pack jokester. He got along with everyone in the pack and even some of the 'rivalry' pack members who dared spend time near the Ridge pack. Denali never purposefully challenged the previous Alpha. The previous Alpha became fed up with Denali always sneaking off to hang out with the 'rivals' and he was going to put an end to him. Guess who picked the wrong wolf to mess with?

Shadow sat by the lake staring out over the crystal blue waters, listening to the morning birds chirping away and the ducks playing in the shallows a few yards away. It was always a habit of hers to get up before the rest of the pack to escape for an hour before they all woke to get time to herself before the bickering ensued. What with the food being scarce and the cats constantly roaming through the territory, the bears stealing what little food we can manage to get and our 'sister' pack being a nuisance. There was always something new that came along with the same old story, every morning. A sudden shadow cast over Shadow, herself, causing her to flinch slightly, looking around nervously only to find the guilty animal. A bald eagle flying overhead was in search of a morning meal. Almost instantly, Shadow's stomach began to growl. Flattening her ears to her head, she grumbled to her stomach while pushing to all fours, "Alright, fine. We'll get food." Shadow strolled away from the lake and disappeared into the treeline in search for something small to hold her over till the others woke up and they could all go on a real hunt.

Freya padded slowly across the cliffs through the territory the wolves called Rebel's Reign where it was neither packs land, but where the rogue and lone wolves lived their lives. Behind Freya, she could hear Tobias clumsily following at her heels, stumbling on small rocks along his path while Freya simply glided right over them. Tobias made Freya smile. He had come so far since his birth a few short months ago, and had learned so much. The fact his father wasn't around to see him get here put an aching in her heart. Freya came to a slow stop and sat down at the edge of a cliff and turned to look at Tobias. "Now my love, would you like to try a hand at hunting on your own, today?" Tobias looked up into his mothers eyes as he too sat down at the cliff's edge, tilting his head slightly. "I think I can manage." Freya smiled at him and leaned over, licking her only son across is head before turning away to wander off towards the lower part of the canyon with Tobias following close behind.

Perhaps it was because of her energetic nature, or because she felt that another wolf was awake, that Robyn had woken up as well. She sleepily looked around the den that everyone shared, and all of them were still asleep. She carefully padded out to the clearing before stretching her body. She then looked around and then up to the sky. Wow, it was still so early. No matter, she always did want to get a headstart. After all, she was a protector so she needed to be alert at all times. Ha, what an excuse to wake up early. She then saw another wolf appear. It was Denali! Guess he was the reason she woke up. He almost always was. Walking over to him, she greeted with a hushed voice, "G'mornin' Denali." To be honest, she never was sure how the new Alpha male felt about her. The previous one didn't like her too much because she was a rogue pup. He always believed that she was a pup from Slough Creek and she was there to spy on them. She then shook her head to get these thoughts out, "What are you up to?"

The morning was coming fast and Nigrum needed to get back to the pack before they awoke. He had spent most of the night walking the border making sure none of the sister pack wolves wandered into his pack's territory. Another reason was that he was looking for prey. These past few months the prey have been diminishing in large quantities. Nigrum stalked silently through the trees in hopes of finding at least a decent squirrel but to no avail. His stomach growled in complaint but he had to turn back now towards the den before the pack would awaken and not find their Alpha. Nigrum had become Alpha not too long ago and was just getting the hand of leadership it almost came naturally to him.The other wolves didn't expect him to defeat the old Alpha in a fight. He still carries the scar from the fight on his neck. Nigrum had challenged the Alpha after he had broken the leg of the only pup they had. Nigrum hated when authority was abused and despised the mal treatment of pups. He shook his head and started trudging back to the den, he would have to settle with eating with whatever the pack hunts later on in the day. As he approached the den he smiled everything was peaceful and no one was up to complain to him about the constant decrease of food or why have we not expanded into shadow ridge territory. He cleared his mind and padded silently through the den making sure everything was okay. He sighed noticing that Shadow was gone again most likely hunting. He returned to the front of the den and laid down keeping his eyes on the entrance waiting for shadow to return

Had Denali not recognized the voice, Denali might have jumped out of his skin and turned on the being advancing on his hind quarters. But in fact, Denali did recognize the voice which caused him to turn and look down at Robyn with a big, wolfy grin. "A very good morning to you as well, Robyn. I was about to run the perimeter and do a border check. Just feels like a nice morning to get out for a run. No one else was up, so I figured I'd make the run myself. What kind of Alpha would I be if I asked my pack to do things I wouldn't do, ya know?" Denali took quite a few steps before realizing he neglected to invite her along. Stopping in his tracks, Denali looked to Robyn with one ear bent back slightly in a goofy, lopsided look. "You're more than welcome to join in on the festivities, if you'd like. It won't take very long." Denali could sense the fae was ever-so-slightly uneasy around him, and he couldn't blame her. From the way the previous Alpha 'took care' of his pack, he wouldn't put it past any of the pack, especially the faes, to be a bit uneasy of the new one. Denali mentally took note that he needed to spend more time individually with his pack mates. As close in age as the two wolves were, they didn't have much of a friendship at all. Denali began to mentally recall the past years that they'd grown up in the same pack together, and all the interactions they'd had, no matter how short lived.

Shadow managed to catch the scent of a ground squirrel and followed the trail till it lead her to a small, dried up riverbed where the very vermin was kicking up the dirt in search of something. Slinking low to the ground, Shadow slowly crept further and further until suddenly, SNAP!, a twig breaks beneath her paw. 'Rookie mistake,' Shadow thought to herself. She'd been far too focused on wanting to sooth her grumbling stomach to even be aware of the things littering the ground beneath her. The squirrel's head snapped up to spot Shadow and immediately took off with Shadow in a quick pursuit behind the it. Poor thing didn't stand a chance. As soon as the chase had commenced, it was over with a quick snap of the teeth around the squirrel's little neck. Shadow trotted back towards the den with the animal hanging freely from her mouth, swaying it from side to side like a pup who'd made its first kill. Shadow didn't care, she was just happy to put something on her empty stomach. Slowly breaking her way through the clearing just in sight of the den, Shadow stops dead in her tracks when she sees Nigrum laying at the entrance of it. Shadow tucks her tail closer to her legs and walks forward slowly with a slight dip in her shoulders, assuming the submissive position as she approaches her Alpha. Softly, Shadow talks around the squirrel in her mouth, "Morning." Shadow eyed the animal in her mouth then glanced back at Nigrum, ducking her head a little lower as she began to wag the tip of her tail slightly. "Hungry, at all?" The squirrel could potentially satisfy the both of them till they got more from the hunt to follow everyone waking, but she was willing to give up the whole thing to her Alpha. Shadow was a 'good soldier' when it came to following under her Alpha's rule. New or not, Shadow had come to have much respect for Nigrum. He was already proving his worth as Alpha, and Shadow wasn't the only one in the pack who could see it in him.

Robyn returned the grin with a smile. Honestly, despite Denali being the Alpha for a year and a half, it seems she still sees him as one of the ordinary wolves. Perhaps Denali would notice that she gave no respect to him (like bowing her head) when she greeted him or maybe he wouldn't. She certainly didn't notice the mistake. "Sure, I'd love to join! It's my job anyway." She admitted with a grin as she trotted beside the alpha male. She had grown at ease with the wolf, given that his reaction was quite different than the previous alpha male's was. Well to be honest, the previous one wasn't really the best alpha wolf example. With tail wagging, excited for the patrol, or well she didn't really need a reason to be excited considering her personality, she waited for Denali to lead on before following.

Denali laughed lightly when she mentioned running border was her job, anyway. "That it is, Robyn." Smiling towards her, Denali picks back up where he'd left off and begins at a soft trot but continues to pick up speed as goes. It wasn't too long into the run that Denali came across a heavy scent of an elk herd but didn't stop to figure the direction, he'd known better than to try taking it down alone. Or even with Robyn there. It was more of a three to four, or more, wolf kind of thing. The scar on Denali's cheekbone burned with an old memory from when he'd first began learning to hunt and was kicked in the face by the damned elk they'd been hunting that morning. Shaking his head of the horrible incident, Denali continued on for a few more paces before stopping at a slow running spot on the riverbank, lapping up some cool, fresh water.

Smiling back at Denali, she proceeded to follow him further from the dens. She, unsurprisingly, didn't have much trouble keeping up with her leader. One could even say she could overtake him and lead the way. But she made no such move, knowing her place. The strong scent of an elk almost made her stop in her tracks should she not have known the pain and danger of taking on an elk with only two wolves. She kept up with the Alpha male and then slowed down near the riverbank. She dipped her head to lap at the water and then looking up again. The border should be close. "I hope nothing's here." She muttered. She would usually have interactions with Slough Creek wolves. They were a nice bunch, or at least the ones she meet were. Some were aggressive of course but they dared not cross the borders. "I'd rather not fight right now." She admitted, in a louder voice now.

Denali picked his own head up from the waters and took a glance around, his expression now more serious than before. "I've clashed with a few of them before, back before I became Alpha. They wouldn't dare come over here, though. There's an understanding, and I don't think Nigrum is wanting any issues. He tends to keep his pack under control." Still, Denali had a slight worry about him but he knew to mask it well. Gritting his teeth gently, Denali stepped around Robyn to press on when suddenly an old scent hit him but still caused his back fur to stand on end. The scent set in and he realized it to be a familiar one. His fur immediately smoothed over and muttered softly but loud enough for Robyn to hear, as well "Shadow of Slough near not too long ago. On their side of the territory, though. Must have just been doing the same as we were. Morning water. Her scent is fading." Denali looked across and down the river towards where the Slough territory was, narrowing his eyes a bit as he scanned the riverbank to attempt finding any of the other wolves but came up empty. Without another word, Denali pushed on through the brush away from the riverbank to continue on their perimeter run.

Nigrum stood as Shadow approached him trotting with her head in a small dip towards him. The sign of submission made him smile inwardly. He was glad she thought he was worthy of submission. Shadow had always been a good soldier and Nigrum would give seven wolves for one of her. She came up with a squirrel in her mouth which meant she had more luck than him that morning in the hunt which pleased him.

"Morning."

"Good morning to you too Shadow."

"Hungry, at all?"

He didn't even have to think before speaking,"As much as I am honored by your offer I would prefer for you to share that with one of the others than me. I will be sure to find something later when we go hunting for bigger game together. Enjoy your hunt and rest we have a long day ahead of us." With that Nigrum turns and heads into the den to check on Ayala and the rest of the pack. He knew that Shadow had good intentions but he preferred to starve and let the pack eat before himself.

Robyn nodded as she looked towards the other side of the river. Slough Creek territory. "I know. I was there for some... encounters.." She was young back then but she had to go out and fight. Especially since she was part of border patrol, she was one of the first to actually go into the fight. "I know Nigrum doesn't want any trouble. It's a good thing he's the alpha in their group." As much as they were enemies, she was glad the was the one who took up the position. If it was an aggressive wolf, she wouldn't have any semblance of rest. She followed Denali when he suddenly stopped. Robyn could smell it as well. It was another wolf. Unfamiliar, but Denali seems to know about it. Ah, so it was another wolf. "Perimeter check too huh? Well, we should've expected it. A bit too early though." Usually, perimeter check times of both clans are at the same time resulting to wolves seeing each other time and time again. She doesn't personally mind. When Denali began to move, she did as well. "That scent? You knew who owned it?"

Chinua lifted her head as the watery rays of sunlight began to filter into the den. Her jaws stretching wide in a yawn, she woke to find that her mate, Denali, was no longer sleeping beside her. He had probably woken early again and decided to go off on a border check, she deduced; Denali often did this, it was his own way of clearing his thoughts and coming to terms with their newfound leadership positions. They would often go together, in fact, but with Chinua's belly as swollen with their coming pups as it was, she wasn't confident enough to leave the den until after they had been birthed.

The territory could be an awfully dangerous place, and the she-wolf would have never forgiven herself if something terrible had happened and the pups' lives were put at risk. It was safer for her to stay here, she kept telling herself. It wouldn't be long now. Heaving herself back to her paws, Chinua stretched her muscles and padded out into the clearing to soak up the sun, just as pawsteps echoed near the clearing's entrance.

Shadow Ridge's alpha female lifted her nose to the air, the scents she drew in told her Denali was returning, with Robyn close behind him. She twitched her ears, and settled down again just outside of the den, waiting for them to return.

Trevor opened his eyes slowly as the morning light crept into the den. Hm... another day and he was still alive. That's good. It is not like he's too eager to die of old age, it's just that it's becoming more and more surprising. He shook his head lightly so that he can put his mind out of the depressing topic. Should it come, it will come and he shall accept it. He rose from his position and then stretched. Quickly noticing that his adopted daughter was already up and going, he wasted no time in heading for the clearing, avoiding the slumbering wolves who were going to wake up sooner or later.

His eyes landed on the Omega-turned-Alpha female who was resting in the den. He sniffed the air to smell Robyn and Denali's approaching. But he paid no mind. They were probably on patrol. Robyn must've tagged along because she woke up unusually early again. He padded towards Chinua. "Good morning Chinua." His eyes turned to her swollen belly. "How are you doing?" It was elderly concern. He had known Chinua's parents, her father more than her mother. Since their passing, Trevor has been constantly looking after Chinua, without her knowing, he guessed.

Denali smiled to himself and slowed his pace a bit to level out beside Robyn, running just beside her. "Yes, I do know of it's owner. Shadow was a great friend of mine a long time ago. I often times took myself into Slough territory and visit her from time to time, she ended up becoming like a sister to me due to her being a couple years younger than myself. We were both the 'odd ones out' in our packs. Me especially, because.. well, being an omega kind of puts you in that position just by the job title. Yeah, we're the ones forced to break up the fights between the pack, but we also get picked on the most, and given the scraps of every meal." Denali pumped the breaks on his thoughts and shook his head, muttering, "Sorry. Sometimes it's hard to remember where and who I am, these days. Don't really think I was cleared for this job, prior to being handed the crown." Denali let out a slightly nervous laugh, seeing that they were coming up to the other end of their territory, he immediately turned and began running towards home. He suddenly found himself hoping Chinua hadn't gotten up yet. Denali could care less if she knew he was gone off on a trip, knowing she'd know he'd be back soon - the thought of her having to do anything without him there in case of any need she may have. Denali's ears flattened at the thought and he picked up the pace a bit more than just the simple trot they'd been at.

Shadow nodded slowly and watched as Nigrum turned to go back into the den. Following behind by a couple feet, Shadow turned down a narrow passage through the short den tunneling system, finding her way to the Hunter's den and found her way to Roan. With her eyes adjusting to the darkness of the den, Shadow relied mainly on her nose as she took a deep inhale of the scents around her. Everyone was still in here asleep, including Roan who was the deepest sleeper. Shadow leaned down and gently nudged Roan's side until he awoke, nudging his rear towards the entrance of the cave where the half-asleep pup slowly began making his way towards. They would eat outside, so none of the mess would trail through the den when they move the remains out. Finding a spot at the edge of the clearing, Shadow drops the squirrel to the ground and lets Roan begin to rip and tear into it.

Chinua turned her head as Trevor approached and perked up her ears, huffing out a quiet breath in greeting. She had always had a soft spot for the old wolf, he had been a good friend of her father's and so she had spent a lot of time around him as a pup, if there was anyone in the pack that knew her better than Denali, it was old Trevor. Now that she didn't leave the den site as much due to her advanced stage of pregnancy, he was the best company she could get while Denali was out patrolling, hunting and attending to other matters pertaining to the pack's territory. She didn't mind, he was a nice fellow and he had his fair share of good stories to tell.

"I'm doing just fine, thank you Trevor." the newly crowned Alpha female responded, wagging her tail slightly. She glanced back over her shoulder at the gently sloping bulge of her belly. It seemed to grow larger every day, and she could have sworn she could feel the little cubs beginning to move around. She was sure it wouldn't be long until they entered the world, and admittedly she was glad for it. "Starting to feel a little uncomfortable, but I suppose that's normal at this stage isn't it?" Chinua chuckled softly to cover up the discomfort. "I just feel a bit useless sitting around and doing nothing all day, but it's not like I can leave the den for very much now, I wouldn't be surprised if Denali insists on carrying water to me in a leaf rather than risking me making a trip to the river to get it myself." it was meant as a joke, but perhaps it wasn't entirely unfounded.

Alaya:

A little late in waking up compared to the other wolves of her pack, Alaya stretched and yawned, sitting up with a sleepy blink. It took a few moments for it to register that the small cove she shared with her mate was empty, in fact it looked hardly slept in at all besides her side. She sighed and stood, shaking her coat out just as Nigrum showed up.

"Well, good morning stranger," She said, giving him an affectionate nuzzle on his shoulder.

Kanan:

He'd been awake for hours now, his damned leg aching something fierce this morning. He huffed and flopped over onto his side to mope for a bit before growing bored, the pup wasn't awake to pester him and things were just too quiet in general. Kanan rolled back onto his stomach and heaved himself up with with good legs, limping out of the den to get some fresh air.

Anum:

She couldn't sleep. This was a nightmare and she felt like she was suffocating. Anum couldn't take it anymore, she wanted out of this den, even if her exile from the outside world was self imposed. The young wolf couldn't help it, this was her first litter ever, she had no idea what she should do! At least she wasn't alone, the Alpha female was expecting a litter as well, maybe she could learn a little before her own pups arrived.

Anum stood and padded out, her belly just now starting to bulge, showing that she still had time yet before this hell was over. She slowly poked her head out to look around before the rest of her body followed, tail low and her ears flat as she saw her packmates outside as well. She still wasn't completely used to the whole idea that she belonged somewhere now, it was a little unnerving but oh well, might as well try to be friendly, right?

"Morning," She said softly to Chinua and Trevor, keeping a bit of distance between herself and them.

Nigrum smiled when he saw that Alaya had woken up.He nuzzles her back and let out a small chuckle. He barley slept with his mate ever since he became the Alpha because he always was on duty. Plus he preferred for Alaya to have her privacy.

"Good morning how is the most beautiful wolf in the planet?",he asked her smiling.

It was not that he did not like to spend his nights with her because she truly was a looker. Nigrum just feels strange that he actually had someone as beautiful as her to call a mate. As alpha he couldn't sleep......no he refuses to sleep and leave the other wolves at the mercy of some other predator from the forests.

Robyn listened intently as the Alpha Male rambled on. About how he met with Shadow often to how being an Omega was being the 'odd one out'. She had wanted to argue that Omegas were really useful. But he already said it. And he's right too. They don't really get anything as a reward. They get the scraps. The hierarchy isn't really all that fair. And given that the previous Alpha wasn't the kindest wolf out there, it made it all the more worse. "I personally think you're doing a great job Denali. If anything, you're better than the previous one." She replied with a shake of her head. When he had started to dash towards the clearing, Robyn followed suit. He was definitely worried about Chinua. Who wouldn't be? She looked at the sky. It was still morning but Trevor was probably up. She'd get praised again today~ She matched her pace with Denali's as they headed back towards the dens.

Trevor chuckled. "That's true. It would be normal at this stage. They'd probably come out in a moon or so?" He said. Although he was worried, he figured that he shouldn't show it too much. He'll leave it to Denali to constantly worry about her. Being too worried would be bad for the old wolf's heart. When she voiced her worries about being useless to the pack, Trevor couldn't help but smile. "You and your mother are too alike. She was quite upset with staying in the dens too." While they weren't exactly as close as he was to her father, he was still friends with her mother. He'd often visit the wolf while she was pregnant when the other was out hunting. Since he was in charge of mere border patrolling, it didn't take up too much of his time. "It's only a matter of time before... oh wait... you still have to look after your pups. But don't worry, you'll be up and at it after only a few more moons." He wasn't very good at this reassuring thing. But he was trying his best.

He sat down and turned his head when Anum had exited the den. "Good morning to you as well Anum." The female wolf was pregnant as well. Do pregnant wolves always wake up early, he wondered. Anum had sat down, keeping her distance from him and Chinua. While normally, it would seem odd, he knew the reason why. She was still cautious around them. She was a rogue after all, just like his adopted cub Robyn. But unlike Robyn, Anum grew up without a pack. But since joining, she has become a great asset. She became the pup watcher. He's been spending quite some time with her too, considering that he likes hanging around the pups. How are you holding up?" He decided to ask.

Chinua's head turned as Anum appeared to join herself and Trevor, the Alpha female's tail tip waving back and forth in a friendly greeting at the other expectant mother.
"Good morning, Anum." she chuffed back in greeting, ears forward and head down in a friendly gesture. She knew Anum was still nervous around the rest of the pack as she had only been with them a short time, and despite her newfound position as Alpha, Chinua strived to maintain an open and friendly approach to all the pack members, especially Anum in the light that she was going to be a mother soon as well. "How are you feeling today?" her head swiveled to nod in Trevor's direction as she continued. "Trevor and I were just talking about the upcoming pups, it won't be much longer for mine now."

The she-wolf's jaws stretched in a yawn and she heaved herself to her paws. "I'd really like to take a trip down to the river to get a drink, I'm so thirsty you wouldn't believe it! Would either of you mind to come with me by any chance?" her ears flicked as she picked up the pawsteps indicating that Denali and Robyn were quite close by now. "Denali would have my tail off if I went on my own, but I need to get out of this den for a while!"

Alaya: @SorcererMaster8

She smiled and gave him a gentle nip on his flank. Oh how she adored her mate but really, this needed to be addressed, Nigrum would end up running himself into the ground if he didn't learn to balance his duties and sleep. ...She also missed curling up with him for naps.

"She's wondering when the Alpha will get some actual rest so he doesn't run himself ragged," Alaya said and stepped back with a sigh. "You need to rest at some point my dear."

Kanan:

Letting out some muttered curses, the proud wolf flopped onto his good side once he was out of the den, basking in the early spring sun with a sigh. It wasn't exactly warm but it was most certainly better than being cooped up inside. His eyes drifted shut as he contemplated their tiny pack, only one pup and an Alpha who's hardly around in the night, no... things were not looking good. At least the cats hadn't been much of a problem over winter.

Anum:

"I-I'm okay... I think. It felt like I was suffocating in there and I couldn't get comfortable," Anum said, laying down and resting her head on her paws as she just listened and looked around the clearing. A walk to the water did sound nice, the thought made the young wolf's tail slowly wag and she stood again. "I'd like to tag along."

Location β™› Shadow Ridge Den Clearing
Interacting With β™› @Polaris North's Robyn and Trevor, @The ElvenQueen's Chinua, & @GhostWing's Anum

"Thanks, Robyn. That means a lot to hear that." Denali broke through the brush that was earthed in the area surrounding their den, his eyes immediately finding Chinua standing just outside of the den opening. Like a young pup, Denali bounded over to his mate in a sort of hop-run, the tip of his tail wagging uncontrollably. Slowing down as he nears her, Denali nudges his head beneath hers and caresses her, making sure not to move her so much to put her off her balance. "Good morning, my queen." A sense of worry that never left his eyes when he was around his expecting mate returned as he took a step back to look at her, "Ready for some drink? Robyn and I made sure the path to the river was clear." He then took his eyes off of his mate for the first time since he cleared the bushes, looking over at Robyn with a thankful nod before looking off at Trevor and Anum. "Good morning to you both. Would you care to join us?"
