Oh, they're not that oppressive. Or willing to kill their own citizens. There's just....alot of quiet desperation to them.

They're sort of inspired, partially, by the purity faction in Beyond Earth. Clinging to the past because the present has kicked them around but good, often with the technology someone said would be a salvation. Seeing other factions running around with tech they've seen abused, they know can be abused, in horrible ways...

Well.

I'd start to polish my artillery pieces too.

...

And I'm saving that link.

While they probably didn't have it as badly as the Neo-Soviets, Terminus and the Simulacrum might feel some kinship with the Neo-Soviets just due to the simple fact that they were both born from horrific adversity. I haven't filled out my history section yet, but the species that the Simulacrum belong to destroyed themselves. Twice. Imagine the Vaults from Fallout, and you'd have a pretty good idea of what the first Simulacrum were 'born' into. It was a biological research lab experimenting with a variety of things, including cloning, who subjected the clones to horrific experiments for the good of the 'future' of the species. Of course eventually the clones escaped, rose up, and butchered almost everyone in the lab. Then the remnants of their species began another war and destroyed themselves again while the Simulacrum were still beneath the ground, and they emerged to find their entire species extinct aside from themselves and they had the unenviable position of rebuilding civilization.

I'm not 100% certain of what it was that killed caused the 'ends of the world' though. Under normal circumstances I'd just go with nuclear war, but nukes aren't as effective in a vacuum.

I could definitely see some kinship there-sounds like both of them would understand the value of restraint-and asking if they should, before asking if they could.

They've both been screwed over by people playing around with advanced technology like a kitten with a ball of string-often in horrific ways. That....that teaches some hard lessons, lessons that cross the species boundary yeah?

The armies of neo-Sov SPESS MAHREENS shall march to battle under the heroic old world tunes of Yakety Sax and the works of Mire Fixtape! They shall strike endless fear into the hearts of the enemy!

Coincidentally, such musical masterpieces are all that the government has allowed the people to listen to thus causing many to think that Terrans did in fact play these songs at elaborate opera and performance halls and thinking of the songs as the highest cultural peak of humanity and have based their entire musical culture around the teachings of Mire Fixtape, a master artist of sound in his time.

In some ways, possibly. The Simulacrum's origin was undoubtedly farther in the past than your people's ordeal with the AI, and for the Simulacrum it more instilled in them and their descendants an appreciation for individuality and the life of others. Of course, if somebody did begin to go too far than the consequences would be swift and dire. Not to mention the Simulacrum don't really have any sort of AI technology (they have advanced programs, but nothing approaching sentience/sapience and many agree such a thing wouldn't be in their best interest) and genetic manipulation isn't really a thing unless you count cloning and that's primarily because they'd just die out without it.

Meanwhile in the Terran Union:

"We know the meaning of BDSM! Bolsheviks, Domination, Stalin and Masochism!"

I'd make a joke about the Marshal of the Terran Union being a masochist, but the IC hasn't started yet so I haven't introduced him as a character. But yeah he's totally a masochist.
(Not really)
(Okay maybe)
(Possibly)
(He's DEFINITELY a sub though)

So when are we gonna start?

The moment I put up the OOC, which will be either late this night or tomorrow morning. I should note that these freeform roleplays of mine usually keep accepting forever since the excuse for not existing for the first half of the RP is just "They never found us because space is gigantic", so nobody needs to worry about their nation sheets not being ready by the time people start making IC posts.

Wait... Do people exist who're both a masochist and a dom? Would that just be, like, forcing someone to "hurt" you?

I'll bet they won't take kindly to the fact that both the Chairman and Marshal of the Terran Union were in the military and were complicit in countless imperialist invasions.

Oh, they're going be relentlessly bitchy about it. Rest assured.

I'm not sure if there's genuine hatred or if this is a case of two nations being tsundere on a hitherto unobserved scale.

Meanwhile the Simulacrum are wondering how a species who can't even inherently feel the emotions of others nearby managed to survive long enough to get into space without killing itself off.

I really like the idea of two extremely tsun-tsun communist nations. Besides, the Chairman of the Terran Union was a tankie back in the day and would be more excited by the idea of Neo-Soviets with space marines than mad about them being different.

It checks out too.

All the Terran Union can say about that is "Yeah, we almost did."
