Space exploration is a force of nature unto itself that no other force in society can rival.
-Neil deGrasse Tyson.

As you can tell by the title, this RP is "Freeform". Which basically means I don't need to write out the backstory because there isn't any backstory. There's no giant empire that just broke up, no ancient evil that just got unsealed, nothing. The entire story of this roleplay will be dictated by the histories of the individual player nations and their interactions.

As for those nations, there are no limits. Aside from not being a douche and making a species of literal gods that are genocidal maniacs, because then you're a douche and I'm not going to let you be a douche. I should note that this is a Sci-Fi Fantasy RP, which means that magic exists as a force and you're free to incorporate that into your nation and species. At the same time though there's no official explanation for it, so while your species can have their own religion (or scientific theory) to explain magic there aren't confirmed gods running around the universe.

The RP will begin in 2150 and take place in the Milky Way. And that's more or less it for restrictions aside from these rules that I've conveniently segued into.

-All the usual stuff, no being OP, no knowing things you clearly shouldn't, no destroying the universe(s). Stuff like that.
-Keep the OOC civil.
-Your species and nation can be weird. They can be really weird (in fact, the weirder the better), but keep things realistic. There probably aren't any blobs of gel out there that worship desks.
-There aren't restrictions on technology. You can be using nuclear pulse drives that you personally calculated the size and range of for everything, or you can use a hyperdrive powered by ground unicorn horns. It really doesn't matter.

And finally, the app:

Name of nation:
Species:
Description of government:
Description of military:
Technological Overview:
Cultural Overview:
History:
Other:

It's short because it doesn't need to be long. You can add whatever categories you want onto it, but be sure to fill out the listed ones. And that's it, that's the OP. There isn't much left to say aside from if you have a question, go ahead and ask it.

I will be participating.

Unlike practice in prior roleplays, my nation in this instance shall be highly experimental.

General style you folks can expect from the Neo-Sovs, spacecraft wise.

I'm branching out a bit, culturewise, from the ones I detailed in the last topic. I....couldn't resist adding Space! Cuba.

Hey, just curious. Is there gonna be a map of any kind? If not that's cool, just figure I'd ask.

@TheSovereignGrave

I wasn't planning on it, due to the fact that I want to keep the entire Milky Way open and the Milky Way is INSANELY huge. But I wouldn't be opposed to it if someone wants to make one.

Eh, it's no big deal. I'll just mention somewhere in my sheet that my nation is located somewhere on the end of one of the spiral arms. Hence it being referred to as the Terminus.

I haven't even specified the location of mine. I guess something near the core?

As others said the galaxy is HUGE.
Hundreds of billions of star systems to be approximate. Many space NRPs failed because the vastness of this space bothered people.
That and distances to cover. I think it's better if we leave our locations in the galaxy vague.

A general area should be fine, but a map is pointless

Space is 3D, first of all, and not an ocean, so my faction could be literally under yours on the map

Not to mention the scale; my entire empire could legitimately be concentrated in a tiny dot somewhere, and it has more planets under its "control" than someone who owns an eighth of the galaxy

Terminal actually did attempt to make a map which was accurate.
It involved some cosmic BS which transported all civs into a new cube-shaped mini universe and he made 3 maps (xy, xz, yz) to portray our position in all 3 vectors of space.
It worked pretty well but it was quite a pain to keep track of.

That map was an eldritch fucking abomination that presumably contained knowledge not meant to be discovered by man within its complex coordinates.

But yeah that was actually a really good map.

Yeah, I'm totally fine with it just being vague. Actually, to be honest I'd probably prefer if it was kept vague. For the reasons already mentioned.

You may be pleased to know that the Milky Way Galaxy's accretion disc has a height of a mere 1,000 lightyears. An accurate model map would be effectively flat relative to its length and width.

Of course, I would be measuring in increments of a hundred, so that would still be a minimum of 10 z-levels. I can begin mapping as soon as I start receiving precise coordinate locations. For our purposes, Sagittarius A* will be coordinate 0,0,0, and Sol will be our Galactic South at approximately 0, -170, 0. Dimensions for the map will presume 100,000 Lightyear length and width or 1000 coordinate points for the X and Y axis (ranging from -500 to 500), with the Z axis possessing the aforementioned 10 coordinate points (ranging from -5 to 5) for a grand total volume of a mere 7,850,000 coordinate points assuming a cylindrical map.

I understand that such a low figure is not optimal for purposes of precision, but I trust that you will all be able to fight to the death in a tidy fashion over the prime points as it were.

.. I'll be honest some of that went right over my head.

Just put me in "no map" camp.
