@Willy Vereb, I tend to be more realistic than most while in roleplays. That's why I don't usually join fantasy roleplays.

If the Death Star did move, then it would of taken time to move because it's big as fuck. It shouldn't be moving at the same speeds at a fucking ship. Also, it isn't 'stupidly specific.' Having control of eight planetbusters is overpowering as fuck and you can easily destroy several worlds in one single post. Having one shows that you're the 'big kid' around the universe and nations won't fuck with you.
Actually your "realism" is rooted in popular media logic. If you truly want to be a realist a larger spaceship is always faster than a smaller one. Why? Because you can spend higher ratio of mass on what is actually useful for propulsion.

Anyways, having 8 planetbusters or just one doesn't make much of a difference. At worst that means you have to fight on 8 fronts or if you have sufficiently good FTL in comparison just concentrate all your forces to one place at a given time and steamroll the "Deathstars" in 8 consecutive battles.

Either way eight gigantic ships don't mean drastically higher threat than just one. And destroying planets is not guaranteed. In general it really just matters on your tactical sense. This is why realistically using all 8 of the giant ships at once is something which would never happen. Because it only makes sense for an inept strategist who thinks throwing everything and the kitchen sink at somebody is actually the best way to fight wars.

The actual problem would be if:
1.) He has as many starships as us but all of them are country-sized "Death Stars".
2.) His tech advantage makes the "Death Stars" invincible in battle.

Anything else can be handled by somebody actually starting to think on battles. Deathstars are superweapons and can be fun to fight, IMO.

Believe it or not they are actually going to represent the "straight man" in this mad-mad galaxy.
Their advanced tech is also sufficiently tempered by their peculiar culture and lack of war experience.

Our nations seem pretty similar, though in general I think yours is a bit higher tech.

Okay, I might be overreacting to that "laugh" on Verb's post, and Verb's on post, but I think we're coming to a point where OOC insults are/are about to be fired.

So I'd suggest stepping back for a bit here. Wait until Key is back, and let the GM do his job. It's pretty clear everyone expected pretty different things from the RPG. This is the hazards of freeform, and I'm sort of surprised we didn't run into it back in the interest check.

I may have left, but that doesn't mean I wanna see this crash and burn, and I worry it is now getting to that point.

Honestly, I find it interesting that so many people are pushing the military agenda and the tech agenda. Okay so first off, honestly I haven't read everyone's tech yet so I'm just speculating. But still, I'd think that nobody's tech is so advanced that it is godlike overpowering? Besides, don't you think that when you first meet another space fairing species you ain't going to start shooting at them immediately but rather talk? I'm just saying: wouldn't it be more fun to think about the theoretical problems of when 2 species meet? Like viruses, language, alphabet, science terms and units of measurements? Maybe something as basic as how a machine digitally works could be different?

Again, I'm a bit of a hypocrite here for saying this because I haven't thought of those kind of things myself. Yet still, I think they're worth to look over?

I am actually just confused at the laugh-rating on my post. And I certainly don't plan to make any retorts.
Fighting huge ships requires different tactics but that's why it could be fun. And them being a limited number means they won't be dominating the game. Like I said while there's a difference between having one of these or several that difference isn't as much as you might think.

Just like Ophidian said, country-sized ships can be dealt with.
My prime concern is with the size of WrongEndoftheRainbow's faction. And that's more on the level of aethetics and comfort in terms of worldbuilding. Universal Union is way too huge and kinda trivializes the entire game with its existence. Sure, WrongEndoftheRainbow's actual faction is far smaller but the existence of such power still puts a certain pressure on things which we might not want. Ophidian compared this to a sword of Damocles hanging above our heads. While that may be an exaggeration it's certainly not that nice of a feeling when you think about plots for this RP.

@Lucidnonsense shock and awe mainly, the cruisers and frigates are the only actual practical ones. the carrier is somewhat practical, but the battleships are so big that they move at the galactic equivalent of a slug, and align themselves for warp just as slowly.

Now I feel kinda bad for making a species of psychics... Granted they're deaf, mute psychics who communicate solely through thought (and writing), but they're still psychics nonetheless.

Perhaps communicating out of species is difficult, they must learn how the neurology of the other species works or they just send static.

Grave suggested this and I should have fucking listened. I thought because I left, that was that, and it didn't really merit discussion. Going from....

That is clearly not the case. I'm not the GM. I have no power. I want to stress that this is just me, as a player/former player, trying to help unfuck the mess he made.

To sum it up:

We've got alot of people. who all want something different, narrativewise, technologically, and all that. I thought I was getting a sort of realistic-fantasy type deal, with the Union and Romans setting the tone. This is not entirely the case. Verb and co thought they were getting a full on space opera, this is not entirely the case, and there are factions built for both setting types in the same RPG.

This is clearly not going to work, we've got people, like myself, leaving, or not talking with other players over this. If I'd known my leaving would set this off, I just woulda slunk off and not posted at all, which hey, is shitty, but wouldn't have done this. That's an upside.

So now, I suggest we actually listen to Grave, list what we'd like out of this game, then give up things we want so we can have other things we want. You know. That thing you do when you can't kill your enemies.

Well, it is already harder communicating with other species. Between Simulacrum it's a very strong connection; they just automatically feel the surface thoughts and emotions of all the other Simulacrum around them and then also communicate via thought and can tell where others are (they can teach themselves to stop sensing others and suppress their mental link to others though). But with other species, it's essentially just communication. But I'm still working out all the little details and whatnot, and it does make sense that there'd be difficulties when communicating with new species.
