Idea

So I have this idea to make a Pokémon Gijinka game, and I decided to make an interest check for it first to see how many people would be interested in it and who also might help me develop it because I think when the players are able to assist in the development and are allowed to just share their ideas with each other and interact, then it’ll motivate them to stick around the game for a long period. Most of my games on this site have been falling due to players joining, then leaving, or players joining and not feeling inspired to write anything. So I want to make a free-flow universe where players can freely go as far as they want with it. The only thing that I’ll be monitoring is the leveling. Yes, the leveling. So if you’re one of those pessimists/negative nancies and have nothing to contribute to the development of this game, then just don’t even bother. Look away and go away—thank you. Now let me go on to explain.

Pokémon Trainers and Pokémon Gijinka

In this world there are two types of roles: the trainer and the monster. The monsters live freely about the world as they do in Pokémon, but unlike the franchise, these Pokémon aren’t all entirely feral. They may live out in the wild or work at an ice cream parlor with their trainer, and they’re capable of talking and interacting with others.

All players who choose to be Pokémon will start at Level 1, their first evolved form (in some cases if you want them to start in the baby form, then that’s fine too), and they will live in the wild. They are also humanoid in appearance. You can type in “Pokémon Gijinka” in Google or Pinterest to get pic ideas. You can draw your own, and if you can’t find a pic, then you can just use a written description to describe him or her. No biggie. There tend to be more female pictures out there than male pictures, so don’t get discouraged or feel like you’re pressured to play a female because that’s the only pics you can find.

Pokémon Trainer: the job of the trainers is to capture the Pokémon so that they can go on their journey to beat Gym Leaders or whatever that trainer’s true goal is. Pokémon Trainers are allowed to have six P-gijinka on their team. The Pokémon Trainer chooses which Pokémon to throw into combat, to level up, and who they want to spend rare candies on (if they are awarded such).

But yes, Pokémon Trainers all start automatically with one Level 1 Gijinka of their choosing. They will use their Gijinka to battle other Gijinka so that they can capture them and build their team. Once they have a team of six, then they begin the next part of their journey, gym battles!

It is very important that Pokémon Trainers and their Gijinka have a strong relationship. They want to achieve Best Friends Forever (BFF) or Best Buds (BB) status. The stronger their relationship, then the more likely later down the line that they’ll achieve Mega Evolution. If the trainer and the gijinka don’t have a strong relationship, then we’ll try rotating the Pokémon to another group say if the trainers trade or releasing that Pokémon back into the wild. Really, it shouldn’t come to that but if it does, we’ll work it out.

Enemies

There will be enemies in this game. Most popularly Team Rocket and not so popular, whatever OC villain I want to make to make the game darker or more engaging. There can also be evil Pokémon Gijinka that trainers may encounter. There will be many events throughout the trainers journey. These events are leveling opportunities.

Leveling

All right; so this is where the game becomes most engaging. The Pokémon Trainer is the leader. To keep the game simple, the trainer has to win badges in order for his or her Pokémon to listen to him/her. If the trainer is weak, then the Pokémon will walk up and down their asses. So plain and simple, trainers should strive for a full team (six), train their Pokémon by fighting wild Pokémon if they don’t think their Pokémon is strong enough to defeat the gym Pokémon, and participate in gym battles. Pokémon Trainers can also battle other trainers to achieve this. But badges are how the trainer him/herself levels.

All characters start in the Indigo League, BUT I am allowing gijinka players to play whatever Pokémon they want regardless of the region of origin. The levels for obeying Pokémon will also be different since I know they may not level as fast as the game and we don’t want people being level 100 when they leave Kanto (the starting region). Here are the badges for the Indigo League:

 • Boulder Badge (Obeying Pokémon: Lv 5-10)
 • Cascade Badge (Obeying Pokémon: Lv 11-15)
 • Thunder Badge (Obeying Pokémon: Lv 16-20)
 • Rainbow Badge (Obeying Pokémon: Lv 21-25)
 • Soul Badge (Obeying Pokémon: Lv 26-30)
 • Marsh Badge (Obeying Pokémon: Lv 31-35)
 • Volcano Badge (Obeying Pokémon: Level 36-40)
 • Earth Badge (Obeying Pokémon: Level 41-45)

Once trainers have dominated the Indigo League, then they can change regions and continue on in their travels to face tougher challenges. I know that by the Earth Badge, most Pokémon may have maxed out their evolutions. We can get creative with continuing evolutions if you guys want. That doesn’t have to be the end especially if you love your characters.

The Gijinka are going to be following the rules of the games (tweaked in certain cases of course). They will start with their level 1 skills and they will acquire more skills as they level up. I am going to actually introduce two ways a gijinka can earn experience to level up:
1. Battling (wild Pokémon and other trainer’s Pokémon)
2. Working out (but the trainer has to coach them in game)

Battling

Winning battles against Wild Pokémon will give a Pokémon 3 experience points. They only get that experience once a week. You can continue to RP battling other wild Pokémon, but your Pokémon will only get 3 experience points for that week. As majority of the Pokemon reach a certain level, then the weekly experience will increase as well accordingly.

You are encouraged to challenge other trainers and their Pokémon, which will give you 5 experience points for that week.

Exercise

Pokémon Trainers can train with their Pokémon. They can swim, spar, run, play sports, etc. Whatever gets the Pokémon outdoors and active for lazy Pokémon do exist. Trainers must train with their Pokémon together. If a trainer does not do this, then their Pokémon will not get the +2 experience points for that week.

So total, it is possible to earn 10 experience points a week. Unfortunately, 10 experience points will only go to that one or those Pokémon you trained. So if you didn’t train with a certain Pokémon in your party, then you need to or that Pokémon will be left behind. Players who choose to be Trainers need to practice good leadership in their team.

I will go into Pokémon Stats in more detail once I see who is all even interested in this idea lol. Edit: I posted stats explanation below lol.

Activity

Now I understand that everyone has a life and may not be able to post as frequently. This is why I make leveling opportunities weekly. If your leveling scenes go into 2-3 weeks, you will still get experience in the end but it will only be for that one week you started in. Which means, you can begin leveling again. Some trainers may get ahead of others. It is okay and it isn’t the end of the world. This game is all about fun and not about being the best. So if you’re one of those competitive personalities who stress and have anxiety attacks very easily, then this game may not be for you. If you’re a Pokémon Trainer, then it may be best for you to play a gijinka instead if you have those issues. Just hand over the keys to someone else lol. I’m being serious. I’ve seen it happen and it can ruin the mood of the game.

Q&A

This section will be for any good questions that I receive in the interest check as well as the answers I give. Refer to this section regularly to see if you might have had the same question(s).

Q: Any limit on how many characters one can make?

A: You can have 1 trainer and 1 gijinka but one player cannot have more than one PC gijinka at this time. I will allow swaps in the future, and if people actually beat the Kanto region, then I will allow them to adopt second gijinka characters.

Q: Are legendary gijinkas allowed?

A: I don't want any Legendary or Super Rare "Mythical" Pokemon to be Level One at the start of the game because it wouldn't make sense for them to be running through the forest just to be caught by inexperienced trainers.

Q: How does selecting a Pokemon work?

A: Other writers play the Pokemon, so you need to browse the Character Thread to see which Pokemon are taken by another trainer (which are the Pokemon with nicknames), and those Pokemon who aren't. If you decide you want any of those Pokemon, then contact the GM and the Pokemon writer via PM. Be sure to put both the writer and the GM in the conversation, so the GM knows what's going on. You will then establish relations. If there isn't an existing Pokemon that you want, then you can either make your own Gijinka or go along with the journey until one you want comes along.

Q: Do I have to have played Pokemon to be in this game?

A: No.

Pokemon Stats

I lied. I started exploring stats possibilities and I got really excited. :)

Okay, so here is the stat explanation that is a no-brainer on the math because you're basically using a calculator that does the math for you.

Base Stats.

These are your starting stats and depending on what Pokemon you're role playing, you will use the level 1 stats of that respective mon.

To get this base stats, we're going to be using this website: pokemondb.net (Pokemon Database.net)

Edit: Also, if you just want to use Azurilland for the base stats, you can use that too. They have the same information. This website is posted just in case you want more information on the Pokemon you have chosen to play.

This website has a search engine. Type your Pokemon's name in the search engine, and you will get all information about that Pokemon and its base stats.

Example!

MAGIKARP

Level One

HP 20
Attack 10
Defense 55
Sp. Atk 15
Sp. Def 20
Speed 80

Experience 0/10

The experience bar for level one is 0/10. Anytime the Pokemon levels up, add 10 pts to it. So for level 2, the experience bar is 0/20. Level 3, 0/30, etc.

Stat Increase

For Stat Increase, there's a handy-dandy website that we're going to use called: azurilland.com/tools/stat-calculator (Azurilland).

You will type in that same Pokemon or select (typing is faster) into the Stat Calculator.

Now you will notice that this calculator has personality traits called "Nature." You need to select whatever personality you gave your character. You also need to insert the level. Once you have those three sections filled out, simply press "Enter" and you'll get stats. We're going to use the "Max" stats to increase. Ignore the Zero Effort Value category and the Minimum Categories. Only use the points you get under 252+ EV Max because I like to think that all Pokemon will be busting their bums to succeed. Those points will determine how much your Pokemon increases. Once you have chosen a Nature for your Pokemon, you cannot change it and you will base all of your increases on that. Your Pokemon can improve in personality in game, but you will still use the "Nature" you started with.

Example!

MAGIKARP

Level Two

Nature: Brave

HP 20 (+14) 34
Attack 10 (+7) 17
Defense 55 (+9) 64
Sp. Atk 15 (+7) 22
Sp. Def 20 (+7) 27
Speed 80 (+9) 89

Experience 0/20

Seems simple right? Just use the websites.

Special Items

Here is the ultimate list of items: pokemondb.net/item/all . Of course, we're probably not going to use all of them but some items increase the Pokemon's level and also can increase that Pokemon's specific stat. These items are rare and can be awarded during special circumstances in game.

Pokemon Trainer Information

Players who are role playing Pokemon Trainers will use this website to make a Pokemon Trainer Card: pokecharms.com/trainer-card-maker

These cards will keep track of the Pokemon on your team as well as your badges. Basically, they're for fun and organization. You can also use them to show off your progress.

Example!

Unfortunately, you have to create the card and then download it and upload it onto an image site in order to use it. If anyone can find a trainer card creator that people can just copy the image link address, then let me know and I'll update this. But this was the best card maker in my opinion.

This trainer loves fluffy and adorable Pokemon. She also has her first badge.

Pokemon Trainer Character Sheet

I don't care how you design this as long as you have the main information stated.

Name:
Age:
Gender:
Height:
Weight:
Hair Color:
Eye Color:
Origin: (Kanto, Sevii Islands, Johto, Hoenn, Sinnoh, Unova, Kalos, or Alola) Origin doesn't matter because all trainers are starting in the Kanto region. Players can come up with whatever excuse to explain why they are in Kanto and not their respective region. The best explanation is that they are starting with the first league: Indigo.)
Visual Appearance: (You don't have to put the image specifically here. You can put the image anywhere if you like designing your profile)
Written Appearance: (Whatever clothes your character wears, tattoos, scars, jewelry, etc.)
Personality: Summarized.
Motivation(s): What is their goal? What do they hope to achieve. You don't have to battle gyms in this game. Your character can have other plans.

Badges: (You can post little pixel badge pics here, write out the badges you have, or you can not use this section and simply post the trainer card)
Pokemon
Team Name: (You can give your awesome team of Pokemon a name if you want. However, the trainer decides the name.)
You will list whatever pokemon you have captured here and who are currently on your team. You can also place your trainer card here. But definitely write out the names of your Pokemon and their nicknames because not everyone has been keeping up with all the generations of Pokemon.

Other: Anything else you want to tell us about your character. Having a history for your trainer is optional. If you want to write one, you can write one.

Pokemon Gijinka Information

Those players who want to play Gijinka, who are the basis of this game are allowed to pick whatever Pokemon from whatever generation. However, you cannot pick Legendary Pokemon. If you cannot find a picture for the Pokemon you wanted, it is no big deal. You do not have to use an image, but if you're creative, draw one. It's not the end of the world. Just pick the Pokemon that you want to RP. Players are only allowed to play 1 Pokemon at this time. If someone picks the same Pokemon as you that is okay. All Gijinka have the names of the Pokemon. The only time they acquire a different name is when they are captured by a Pokemon Trainer and given a name.

Edit: Oh yes, because why not? Gijinka can assume the form of Pokemon. They have their humanoid forms and their Pokemon forms.

As a gijinka you may experience what actual Pokemon experience, which is a good thing. It'll make your role more believable. If you believe your trainer is evil, unfair, or you want to stage an escape from him/her, feel free. It's believable and it tells that player/trainer that they need to be a better person. That trainer may even become a villain or pokeabuser who needs to be busted by the police. Any who, reeling myself back because we're getting too deep. What I'm basically saying is play whoever you want. If you feel like your trainer is making your life difficult and you're not having a good time, PM the GM. We will straighten that out.

Pokemon Gijinka Sample Pictures

I recommend using pinterest, google, deviantart, or your own drawings.

If you read over more information about your Pokemon on Pokemon Database (linked in the OP), then you will notice that some Pokemon can be naturally aggressive, territorial, etc. You don't necessarily have to use that information in the creation of your Gijinka personality. But whatever overall personality you create, then you will have to pick a "Nature" for him/her.

Gijinka Character Sheet

Pokemon Name: (Remember the trainer will give you an actual name. You can always ask the player playing the trainer to name you whatever you want.)
Pokemon Nickname: (Whatever your trainer nicknamed you. If you haven't been captured, then you don't have a nickname)
Age:
Gender: ♂ or ♀
Height:
Weight:
Hair Color:
Eye Color:
Generation: (You can state what generation of Pokemon your gijinka is from or even the video game)
Type: (This is the type of Pokemon: electric, grass, rock, dragon, ice, etc. Write the type)
Written Appearance: (You can write about their clothes, jewelry, tattoos, stripes, orbs, gems, horns, etc.)
Visual Appearance: (You can put pics wherever you want in your CS. Design it how you want. You also don't need pics. It's up to you.)
Personality: Summarized.

@Shadow DaedalusI don't want any Legendary or Super Rare "Mythical" Pokemon to be Level One at the start of the game because it wouldn't make sense for them to be running through the forest just to be caught by inexperienced trainers. Darkrai is considered a mythical Pokemon.

Also, if you're playing a Gijinka, the trainer has a say whether he or she wants you as their starting Pokemon because they are allowed to choose one. So I wouldn't plan to be wild. It'll be a case-by-case circumstance. But your character might be. All I'm saying is if a trainer wants your character to be their first, then plan for it to be a possibility.

You can make 1 trainer and 1 gijinka just not 2 gijinka or 2 trainers. Or you can just play one character.

Well, I would definitely like to play a Pokemon. The only question is, should I go for a 1st-gen or a more recent one?

Alternately, I could just post both sheets and play whichever one gets picked first by a Trainer.

Your Pokemon is level one so he is just starting with base stats. You can delete the parenthesis information.

Skills are Moves and to not confuse players in the future, you can go ahead and label it as Moves instead of Skills. I'll update the CS.

Also, under Generation because I forgot to add this, write "Type" and write your Pokemon's type whether it be steel, dark, ghost, etc. I will be adding that to the CS also.

@Holy Soldier The parenthesis info is as the website told me for a lv 1 Honedge, Base stats (equivalent to level 0 with no nature mod) plus Lv1 and Nature :/. I used the attached calculator, set to lv1 and that is what it told me the modified stats were. It makes sense because two Pokemon of the same species and both at lvl 1 will still have different stats if they have different Natures...

I am going to be posting a map and describing the starting location soon. I am busy this week, but whenever I get a break, you can expect to see it. But I figured that everyone would start in a Hotel, which would explain those trainers who come from other regions. They'll live in the hotel with their Pokemon, interact with each other, and go on adventures to catch more monsters. There may also be some GM dastardly events going on in town that the trainers and their mons can get in on for more exp and item rewards. :)

@geminironinCan you delete abilities from your sheet because by writing that you are opening a whole new can of worms that we're not going to be using. Also, change skills to "Moves." The CS was updated yesterday. Finally, just like Shadow D. did with his stats. Take your Pokemon's base stats and add the 252+ EV Max numbers to them.

That way if we have another Eevee player or someone who plays a similar Pokemon, you guys should have slightly different stats based on that Pokemon's Nature.
