Short post, sorry! Wanted to incorporate Aleyna into the story and figured that having her stand there until someone noticed her would be awkward haha

@Mr allen j that game's only fun when you're with a bunch of people irl which... I guess you are.

@DarkwolfX37 I've gotta change my mind after reading your post, I agree that it doesn't make sense for the forcefield to be able to go throughost multiple dimensions, etc. However maybe instead of a physical collar we should go with @Dusksong's idea of implants. It's also more logical. A government tries to spend as little money as possible, so if they just have implants all they need to do is make the chip, and then we could have a hand-puncturing device like in Futurama? So the implants is in their hand, a safe area and a quick procedure. And they could all get their implants in tomorrow morning, or tonight or whutever.

Makes more sense than them making the chip, buying materials for a collar that can fit everyone and is secure, and then either grafting it to everyone or also rigging it to explode if it's taken off. They could just make the chip and stick it in no hassle.

I don't care either way what the serial numbers stand for, but I like the idea of then representing something rather than just being random. :>

What do you think on the forcefield vs collar vs implant thing, @SecretlyDiscord?

@Mr Allen J I've heard those can be pretty fun. ;>

@Dusksong Awe, I was gonna have Marlowe talk time her in my next post. I'll go read it now. :B

@daisedconfused the implant idea is actually from the Suicide Squad movie, so kudos to them haha.

As for the collars/forcefield/implant debate, I just don't like the idea of collars. They seem so primitive, and unless they're used to designate who's a prisoner and who's not, they're kind of unnecessary. With implants you wouldn't be able to tell who's a mal and who's not, but that's where uniforms come in. The collars might be helpful if they have a power-disabling function that can be turned on/off, but that can be done with an implant too. The force field could just be a big wall to keep the powerless mals in while their powers are disabled.

@Dusksong We'll I think @DarkwolfX37's whole point is that we shouldn't have the technology to turn off their powers, or go through dimensions, etc.

I think the combination of the forcefield and an implant chip to keep them in or to kill them if they get out of hand is enough without turning off their powers. Especially since all the Mal's who are crazy powerful get executed anyway.

But I agree with everything else you said. I feel like collars have a visual appeal for some people, but it just makes more sense for them to have chips. Takes less money to make.

Pluuuus, it stops the govt from looking like they're keeping slaves. If the govt is going through the trouble of calling it a "Training and Education Facility", there's clearly a certain image they're trying to uphold.

@Mr Allen J Don't offer me something you can't deliver.

As for the collar/chip thing, the whole point is that the collars go boom. If we're gonna have chips, they also need to be explosive, and would need to be implanted into the neck or something.

@Treue That's true. I was thinking they'd explode if they got withings 3 feet of the forcefeild like the collars, but they should definately be in their necks. Like in the side so it's not a delicate area for them to insert them?

EDIT: Also did I mention that I love Drei? :B

What if instead of collars, there is a chip inserted into the back of the neck (along the spinal cord). It's inconspicuous enough and can still be lethal if necessary. If it's inserted in the right place, the chip could also be capable of (temporary) full-body paralysis if the mal gets close enough to the border. The paralysis would also prevent suicide attempts made by mals.

Sounds better than boom-chips :)
Do they still need a force field then? What about just a cement wall or something.

There could be a fence, but I still like the idea of having a technological force field. Like an invisible fence for dogs, just worse.
Also, I don't know if I'll be able to put up an IC post today. Sorry. :(

Mm. It would have to be the neck not only so it's definitely fatal when it explodes, but also so they can't just cut their arm off and escape. The reason I prefer collars over chips is that chips can be influenced by certain types of body control powers. Then again, so could collars. In reality, I'm sure it would be based on the power and what the scientists think that power can eventually do. Someone who can control their own biological chemicals or bioelectricity could easily short out a chip, whereas a collar would be more difficult. Collars are also larger to allow for more tech and functions as well as to help protect against outside influence. If you have a chip, all it takes is an emp to disable it or trigger it, but a collar can be designed to have fail-safes in it due to its increased size. A 2 or 3 inch thick collar made of specific materials designed in a specific way, possibly even specific to the mal based on their power(s), would pretty well protect against outside interference and mal tampering. Sure it costs more, but they're trying to get insanely loyal living superweapons out of it. That would be worth a lot of investment.

I'm waiting to be the last to make sure I don't accidentally take a power someone else wants. Plus, even though I've got the character done and plenty of power options to choose from, I'm rarely in a mindset where I can actually write out the details of any of the potential powers, so... I'm sort of stuck until I am.

@Treue I find his ability really interesting, and I've always been attracted to those sort of reckless-but-still-a-good-guy kinda personalities. :B Makes me wanna interact with 'em.

Aaaahuuugh, I've been working on my post but I'm having a hard time getting it to be something I like. I'mma take a little break, should have something up tomorrow.

Okay: here's a rough start. Do the powers/weaknesses look alright?

Xi Xiu / 20 / Female

Appearance:
Short, slim, but clearly very fit. Xiu is unnaturally pale, a large, round face, and buggy eyes. Her head is mostly shaved, with dark ponytails hanging off either side. She has large scars across various parts of her body, including between some of her ribs, at her joints, along her spine, and down her thighs, but most of them are thankfully hidden by her uniform. In spite of this, her face somehow has a natural "cuteness" to it.

Powers/Abilities:

Super Reflexes and Agility - Xiu can run faster, jump higher, swim deeper, and think and act quicker than normal humans. Her abilities aren't nearly as noticeable as most of her classmates, which contributed to the government taking such a long time to classify her as a malfunction in the first place. She can't shoot anything out of her hands, control things with her mind, or even lift a car, but she has no problem overwhelming any opponent in physical combat, simply by outpacing them and wearing them down. She doesn't get tired from physical strain, in the same way normal people do. She can force herself to keep going, and doesn't seem to suffer any long-term side-effects from this strain.

Hyper-Reactive Eyes - The utility of Xiu's eyes extend far beyond that of normal humans. They are far more sensitive to movement, able to see from far greater distances, and can adjust far further and faster than normal humans. Her pupils can expand and contract unnaturally far, granting her natural night-vision, and protecting her from being blinded by bright lights.

Weaknesses/Limitations:

Neurotic - Xiu is constantly stiff and in a state of stress and discomfort about her surroundings. She does her best to hide it, but it regularly manifests in pulling her own hair out and chewing on non-edible things. Without drugs or very specific (comfortable, tranquil, loving, etc) circumstances, she's neither open, nor sociable in any way. The concept of "relax" doesn't register as an option.

Non-Functioning Eyelids - Xiu is unable to fully close her large, buggy eyes. The best she can manage is a minor squint. As such, she constantly has to keep a small dropper handy, to rehydrate her eyes.

Numb - Xiu has several severed nerve endings, meaning she often can't feel if something's in contact with her, or if she has a bleeding wound. She can still feel, especially in areas away from her scars, but her sense of touch is still far less reliable than most people.

Personality:
Xiu is a broken person. Deep down, she's very loving, very passionate, and believes in the good of humanity, but this mindset is buried deep, beneath a mountain of trauma and survival instinct. Survival is a serious concern for her, so she's always on her toes, unable to relax around others. She goes so far as to intentionally make herself look unattractive, even scary, as it motivates those around her to take her seriously, and not bother her without good reason. She falls asleep every night dreaming of nice house, with a husband and a dog, and wakes up every morning in a cold sweat, ready to fight to the death.

Backstory:

Xiu was born in district 13. She underwent several tests before her powers were discovered. As one of older students to test positive, she was selected to undergo a series of intrusive operations, exploring potential ways to harness and build upon her abilities. These experiments were unfathomably painful and disturbing for Xiu, who was left with severe Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. Nonetheless, the result was deemed a success, as her actual physical capabilities were outstanding, and, more importantly, controllable. When she had fully recovered from her operations, nearly a year later, she was shipped off, ready to begin training.
More docile than most Malfunctions, they decided to test further new methods of Malfunction-handling on her. Rather than more conventional forms of transportation, Xiu was shipped to the facility in a small steel box, barely alive by the time they pulled her out.
When her training began, her muscles quickly grew back to their former strength, and she again became a point of interest. There was something fascinating to the facility staff, about how simple her powers were, and yet how effective they wound up being. She couldn't display anything outstanding, that would catch one's eye from a distance, but she simply excelled at every single task she was given. She was just fast enough to be too fast, just perceptive enough to be too perceptive, just strong enough to be too strong, just resourceful enough to be too resourceful, and she never seemed to get tired. It was unsettling... and hypnotizing.

Talents/Skills:

Xiu is very good at problem solving, and games like chess. She's also proficient with knives, polearms, and hand-to-hand combat.

Quirks/Habits/Other:

TL/DR:

A compact, maladjusted fitness freak.
