@Prince of Seraphs *grumble* Well alright. Don't currently have anything that springs to mind other than tricksters, and I don't want to play only a trickster. I'll be lurking for a while, though, and if I get an idea we'll see what happens.

@POOHEAD189@Terminal@The Narrator@Zendrelax@BlytheChi@shylarah@AdobeFlash

I am in the process of setting down the relevant lore in text for the opening OOC post (which I will most like post here when it is finished if it does not appear the OOC is likely to start soon) and while I have written much I am finding defining the Fall, Summer and Winter Courts to be troubling me somewhat. I could write much about Spring as it is essentially my own land but I find that beyond the basics of the season that each would have I don't have much more to say. I have a basic idea of the temperament of each court as well as a handful actual locations.

I've decided to place one of the rivers of the Greek underworld in each of the four courts as well Summer will contain an ancient mystical forest from Irish folklore called Mag Mell in addition to the Cell-y-Dewiniaid (The Grove of the Magicians) from one of the early Myrddin Emrys legends.

Beyond those few things I'm at a bit of an impasse. I would appreciate it greatly if any of you who are interested in adding to the lore might make suggestions to me on these points. Particularly anyone who wishes to play a ruler as how your Court is portrayed will be shaped greatly by you.

I have now added a great deal of information to the Opening Post which should give everyone a better idea of the setting and tone I am going for with this RP. The information is not complete but hopefully will give you enough to be able to create CSes that fit the RP. I realize that writing while being blind to all but the basic details of the location might be a bit of an obstacle.

If anyone wishes to help me fill in the holes (represented by blank hiders) in the OP you are more than welcome to send me thoughts, ideas, queries or if you should so choose actual lore building environmental descriptions.

Hi! I'm still around. I've been busy the past couple of says, but I'm still very much interested. I should have said something, and I am sorry for not doing so, but I have not vanished into the aether.

I guess I'll have to buckle down on that CS! I've actually finished most of it. I just need to expand on the bio and straighten out the race. After much consternation, I decided to go with the Aos Sidhe, and really stress the whole "underground" thing. Progress on the Race Sheet has been minimal, but I expect to have plenty of time tomorrow.

As for your request for ideas on the Courtly thematics, I have some ideas for Fall:

That's what I've got, anyways. You've got the final call on all of this, of course. I've actually been thinking on how the Acheron might fit into the court's themes, but don't have anything concrete.

Anyways, expect something from me in the next 24 hours. Right now, I've got to get some shut-eye.

The Aos Sidhe is basically just the Scottish and Irish word for fairies but I'll take a look when it's finished.

Here is my first Fae Template. I would like some peer review and approval before finalizing my character drafts for the Blendecs. All are welcome to make additions or corrections to their historical significance as well as their Societal Standing.

It should be noted, I have taken some faint - but I feel not unreasonable - liberty with the lore in regard to their history with the Spring Court (their kind are permanently exiled from the Spring Court due to their abhorrence of Mimameith). Paging @Prince of Seraphs for their judgment on its validity.

Working on a second template now.

I've got a couple of minor things but before that what are these fae based on? When searching the name the only thing I could find is an enemy from a fantasy video game.

In principle they are based off of Fauns and Glaistigs. In employing glamour the former is likely a common illusion for the purposes of misleading men, as diminutive and noble Fauns are likely to be faintly disarming on approach. However, as glamours amongst younger fae are often imperfect it is likely that traces of their true nature would corrupt the illusion, giving them an appearance closer to the latter. Their true form itself draws inspiration from the game you found. The idea is that the reality of their appearance is something few men would know of and be able to report, and is sufficiently distinct from their chosen disguises that men might instead decide that they were separate creatures entirely - like Krampus, for instance.

@Terminal@Dusksong I'll get back to you guys just as soon as I have time but I wanted to let everyone know that anyone is welcome to comment or make suggestions on CSes, Fae templates, artifact templates etc. I of course have final say but I find that swapping notes and getting varied opinions from a number of different sources often helps improve upon the original work. @shylarah I'm looking at you, that's your stage.

Also Dusksong I'm so sorry I didn't get back to you about this when it was in PM. I was so busy getting the lore in the OOC all written up (work in progress) and some real life stuff that I completely forgot about your PM. I'm really sorry.

@Prince of Seraphs my stage? Yeah, but...is there really any point in hammering out sheets for an rp I may not get to join? *eyes Nyx* Iunno, maybe I am a little bitter. ...Also trying to finish my 4e char's feats for next weekend, and wikis are dangerous when you're easily distracted. I have some ideas for things, and I do kinda like coming up with species and stuff, but mythological accuracy has never been particularly important to me. My preference is usually to be inspired, not constrained. *shrug* We'll see.

Oh... well if not playing as Sini was a dealbreaker for you you should have told me. I'm not super keen on duplicating a dynamic between two characters across two very similar RPs but if it's really important to you then I can let it slide. While I do prefer things to have a fairly solid base in folklore its not completely necessary, personally folklore does inspire me but if others find its just a bunch of stories they are free to use others sources for inspiration. I mean look at Terminal's Blendecs. Not exactly a historical tradition, I think the name comes from a video game.

Assuming your still interested I just meant that you're really good at asking the necessary questions that I completely forget about. I wasn't trying to conscript you into doing anything right now if you're busy. If you've got time down the road it would be a huge help but if not I can handle it on my own.

@Prince of Seraphs It's not precisely a dealbreaker, but I can't think of anyone else at the moment that would fit an intrigue rp, particularly not that isn't in use anywhere else. Most of my characters are in use somewhere most of the time, though not always as a focus. And I'm still waiting on an answer to whether or not I'll get to play that dynamic elsewhere. *sigh* Kinda getting frustrated, but I just need to keep telling myself to be patient.

Intrigue is not my normal stomping ground, thus the lack of numerous suitable characters. I'm rolling the thought around, but it's not shaking anything loose yet. I might contribute a species or two as time and inclination permit. I just dunno. You have a fair point about duplicating dynamics. Hm. Maybe...I do have a couple of proper Bards, though they're not generally fey in the Court sense. Might be able to bring one of those in. Would you be alright with traveling musicians being given leeway not usually granted to others, in exchange for the news they bring? Perhaps they are completely unaligned from any court, perhaps they have a loose allegiance but generally remain neutral (or are subtly taking sides but avoid actively doing so, as well as any serious twisting of facts). Perhaps the special permissions are suspended if they wish to take a side during times of conflict -- or perhaps they are lost permanently. Lemme know what you think.

An interesting idea. Travel from one land to the others is fairly common even if permanent relocation is rare so it wouldn't be out of the realm of possibilities. Especially since the fae love good music and good stories, particularly in Summer and Fall. I'd say it would work. Let me know if you need help with the details.

@Prince of Seraphs The OOC says there are barriers to separate the land. A couple comments on this. Firstly, that would heavily restrict crossing and while I like this, and think that using Tuatha blood is clever, there might also be small gaps at certain times, though knowledge of them would be kept carefully -- or shrewdly sold for favor. They're probably not without risk -- might get trapped if you try at the wrong times, in some cases, or sent somewhere else entirely, possibly very far away or even in a different realm.

Secondly, with those borders in place, unless one has very powerful artifact, a lot of artifacts, a lot of Tuatha (or willingness to kill the few possessed), or a /large/ gap, it completely prevents effective warfare. Not that this isn't the point, but without some threat of actual war, tension suddenly becomes a lot less.

Lastly, the Far Lands mentioned are bordering the Unseelie courts, the Styx the Seelie ones, and at least the Far Lands are also separated by a barrier. The barrier between courts and Far Lands makes sense if they're conducting raids or even trying to invade every so often -- actually, hm, looks like Tuatha blood can indeed open a sizable gap, or maybe they just use smaller forces. Eh, whichever. I actually kinda like that it's the Unseelies dealing with the exiles/persecuted, because on the one hand it gives them a reason to go "well you Seelies don't have this problem!" but at the same time anything that might be used against the wild fey could /also/ be used against the Spring and Summer courts, and I see the Unseelie as more likely to start an invasion and try to take over. Might be wrong about that, but it's my predisposition in their case.

At the same time, having it only border Unseelie courts, and having a barrier there and separating each court, it prevents the existence of the less...ah, unsavory type of wild fey -- those who are merely unaligned, who want no stake in the games of the courts and prefer either a simpler life, or just to be left alone to do their thing. I could see them being permitted, so long as they are not a particular nuisance. A suggestion would be that fey not sworn to a court might be recognized by Yggdrasil and allowed through the barriers...but then again, as soon as you do that it opens up the possibility of oppressed and bitter fey going through the barrier in the Far Lands (though ones that were exiled would be stuck), and also for unaligned fey to smuggle things. Actually, on second thought, I rather like that idea. ^.^ I mean, it's no fun if there's not a good potential for smuggling and unauthorized passage, after all. Or perhaps the unaligned fey, particularly those near a barrier, are very good at seeking out those small gaps just big enough for one or two to cross, and they keep that knowledge to themselves and maybe their communities. This also opens the door to fleeing fey asking them for help -- and for those chasing to demand information, or even try to torture it from them if they're not forthcoming. That in turn could lead to discontent in the unaligned fey and/or an unwillingness to help others cross, and distrust on the part of the courts.

Might be worth considering to shift it to one Seelie and one Unseelie court bordering the Far Lands. Just depending on how close to impossible you want crossing to be when all factors are considered. I imagine Seelie/Unseelie crossings are a bit more scrutinized than between Fall/Winter and Summer/Spring.

I JUST READ THE NEVER ISLES STUFF AND HOLY CRUD IT'S NEVERLAND, PETER PAN, AND GAAAH! *flail* excellent interpretation. ^.^ Although, given the way I usually portray sprites and pixies, Tinkerbell would be...well, appearancewise, a sprite, but the whole chiming bell thing I've never used. ^.^;; Might have to rethink that, if I want a sprite or pixie char. Their ability to get into trouble -- at least with Lei -- is so much /fun/. Save that she's bound to Max in the other rp. *sigh*

Speaking of, what are your rules on half-fey, changelings, and magic among humans?

Also love the bit about Arthur and Merlin. <3 *wriggles*

...I'm kinda tempted to give a mortal bard the gift of permanent life and youth, but in exchange neither he nor his songs will ever gain fame, but that'd be more a Mortal Realm kind of thing. *stuffs the idea in the slush pile*

Actually, we currently need somebody to fill that niche.

As much as 35% of the first level of preliminary faux-intrigue is based entirely around the experiences of naive and inexperienced newcomers. The Fool is a card in the arcana for a reason, and it is most certainly not because I put it there for you to find by explicitly mentioning it a second ago.

Try entering a character who has no idea whatsoever as to what they are getting into. Perhaps even a mortal guest in the Fae realms? Equipped only with 'base' rules of etiquette and wildly inaccurate folklore tales. Clearly it would only end well.

@Terminal Someone who is merely a pawn for others is not necessarily fun to play. Someone who wants to be a player but doesn't have the ability might be interesting. Unfortunately, the vast majority of my characters are sensible, magic users, or both -- and they'd have to fit a modern setting to be recent arrivals. I have one that might fit, but I can guarantee you she'd come to an unpleasant end very quickly, given that character death is encouraged instead of avoided. And while I try to be okay with character death if there's a good reason and it makes sense, the truth is I'm very attached to my chars and really dislike removing them permanently from an rp in many situations. ...Actually, that's something I should consider. Outside of the ones where I know they take stupid risks, am I okay letting chars take acceptable risks for their goals and then going with the possibility of losing them. I honestly don't know. @Prince of Seraphs I'll have to think on this. I spotted that note just a few minutes ago, and it didn't really sink in until now.
