@Crimmy, Ugh, I overestimated the power of the Vulcans; I should at least have used the Bazooka when it turned out I have a clear shot.

I don't want to leave the RP, but...I just don't feel I'm competent enough to play.

@Letter Bee: Why don't you stick at it, at least for now? I expect the extra training with Lumen Team will be as much of a learning experience for you as for your character.

@Ghosthands, I'll see what Crimmy's new IC post holds for me first, before making a decision.

So that's a thing. Its probably pretty bad so feedback would be appreciated. In particular I wonder if it is about at the right power level for this and a mm to put in for its rockets, but again anything is appreciated.

What's the charge-up time for the cannons? How powerful are they? Describe in more detail what they do. For the rockets, the current mook suit of choice utilises 550mm rockets in their bazookas. However, the important bit is what exactly happens when the mech gets hit. What's the blast radius? How will it affect your teammates? What is the best way for them to work with you to ensure you don't die and take them out?

@Crimmy

Below are answers that I think are reasonable to I thik all of your questions and if you agree I'll find places to plug them in

Charge time: 15-20 seconds, but I think I can accept anything under a minute.

Cannon strength: I'd like to have them be able to punch through on mech and be able to keep going to wreck at least another target.

They charge up a huge amount of energy and then fire a concentration of lightning blow through enemies.

blast radius for an arm probably 20-30 meters.

blast radius for the core... 200 meters sounds fine.

The explosion will send shrapnel of the mech everywhere, but more important to worry about is the shear force of the blast which would definitely kill you if you aren't protected. Not sure how protected pilots are against that sort of thing, but if the answer is not really then even if they don't get hit by shrapnel then they could just instantly die when the explosion meats them. If the answer is yes then they just needs to avoid large chunks of mech flying at them.

Fast mechs should be able to move out of the way with warning, which will be sent out with the push of a designated button or the release of the ejection seat. Slow mechs should not get close. Note its not dangerous while its off.

That's honestly a way too big of a risk for the other players. It'd screw them over pretty bad.

@Crimmy

I was running under the assumption that they wouldn't be all that close to each other to begin with being quite large machines that also need space to maneuver. That said I am not terribly attached to the blast radius and am willing to lower it to whatever you think is appropriate for being a downside and not significantly hampering everyone else. Also I'm running under the assumption that you only take issue with the 200 meter one and not the 30 meter one.

Oh and should I take this to meant that everything else is fine or that you just haven't brought other issues up yet?

The blast radius is the biggest problem, especially if the force of the explosion could OHKO other players. Sometimes they'll move close by to provide support, after all. Maybe drop the radius and force of the explosion down a bit more, and if you want to jam on some more armour, I'm fine with that.

@Crimmy

The force of the blast is just from my rudimentary knowledge of how explosions kill people is by over pressuring the area. Apparently death can be caused by so much as a 4 pounds per square inch increase in pressure. Limbs can be blown off at ten. Trying to look into this now because I wasn't really expecting to go into more detail then there's a big explosion that destroys the mech as a downside. seriously if you give me a solid number Id just use that.

but for the sake of argument let's say 100m. Assuming that 20m is like an equivalent to 6ft relative to the size of the mechs, and I am definitely assuming a lot here, then it'd be an equivalent of 30 feet to be safe, which is what, a move action in D&D. that might work. again you can just give me a number.

I assure you it'll be as armored as it needs to be. I'm not going to just randomly detonate this to ruin someone's day.

Still didn't answer my question about whether or not that means everything else is approved?

Off to go research protection from overpressure.

@Crimmy

I'd view it less as a detriment to the other players and more as a tool for story things. or as a way to keep me in check I guess. Hopefully that second one doesn't come up that often.

Its also safe to assume that this explosion would down buildings and stuff. I found a calculator tnt so I might run a few numbers through that and make this more complicated than it needs to be. I'll update it with the rest in a bit though

Edit: So yeah... if I'm doing this right the MOAB bomb, america's largest conventional bomb, would have a blast radius of over 1000 meters and the reflected pressure, which I'm pretty sure is what would affect the mechs at the end of its range would be over 4psi, which can still kill people. The chart I'm using puts, fatalities may occur at 3psi and fatalities are common at 5psi. This of course assumes that the mech disperses no pressure at all and that it is all transferred to the pilot, which is unlikely, but I don't know how exactly yet.

Edit again: oops, that was not psi, that was kpa, which I don't fully understand yet, but represents significantly less. So yeah that 4kpa then would do basically nothing. in fact you be safe from death basically entirely, discounting shrapnel, at about 132m and would take basically no damage of any kind at about 421 meters. Again this is assuming that the mech transfers all of this force to the pilot, and that the mech is affected by reflected pressure in the same way as a building. for fun, the range at which you basically just will die is within 95-96 meters of the blast. again this assume no protection of any kind and lets be real, these machines are getting explosives shot at them all the time so assuming the pilot is supposed to survive explosions on and near the mech of a significant size then they would have protection of some sort.

The model was built for space after the original model is a ground only mech design(GS in the name implying Ground/Space). So it functions as any other mech built for space.

Over-pressure...in space.

Explosions in space get brief small fireballs and expanding shrapnel clouds.
