Saw the interest check and came here. I'm about to go to sleep but considering you guys are about to fight pirates soon, can I make a pirate character to fight the protagonists initially and join them later kind of thing?
Given certain factors, it is quite possible that I will be phasing out my activity for this game. It isn't a certainty yet, but the departure of @Plank Sinatra, @Onarax and @Ghosthands has removed much of the appeal for me.
In the event that I do so, I request that it be treated as though the Paper Tiger team went back to X Corp having considered this the end of their field test. I do not give permission for the G-Valkyrie to be used after my departure, in the event that I do leave.
As I said, this is not a certainty. But I felt it polite to give forewarning of the possibility.
That's unfortunate. I was hopping to have a sort of rivalry with your character seeing as they are both here testing mechs from separate companies. Not sure exactly how that would play out or if you'd even cared for it, but it was an idea that bounced around in my head as I skimmed through the characters

It is rather unfortunate, I had quite a few things planned out for the future. Like I said, it's not a certainty yet. But the rest of Paper Tiger has left or is on the cusp, and that removes a lot of what I was here for. The same issues that made them leave were aggravating me, but I'd been trying to stick around. Given that many of my ideas relied on having the rest of Paper Tiger, most of them are toast.
Maybe things will change for the better, but for the moment it only seemed right to give advance notice.
Personality: A military boy through and through, he has a strict set of codes he follows both inside and outside of the military setting. He can usually be seen smiling and laughing with his comrades but he always seems to be on edge, anticipating something. Paranoia maybe? No. It is simply due to his training, the constant alertness and calculating part of him that continues to work outside of work. As far as a pilot goes, he transferred many of his beliefs and codes as a sniper to his mech. Careful in movement, positioning and evasion. He may not be great at air time evasion but where he lacks here he makes up for in stealth and precision.
If one was to talk to him about his thoughts on the mechs, despite his ability to excel with fighting he despises them, claiming that they were intended for protection "but god forbid it that the government decides instead to use it for their on financial wars. Guess I'm too much of an idealist though." In contrary, he is quite the pessimist, always expecting the worst and yet is not surprised when he is wrong. Overall though he is a decent individual with some flaws but is easy to get along with.
History:
Born into a Military family while in Virgina, PA, USA, he grew up learning the troubles that were brought on by military life. Temporary homes, consistent moving and "friends", those he would have fun with but wouldn't see again for sometime if at all again. However he didn't let this stop him from having fun and finding hobbies and interests. For example, he decided to join the Boy Scouts and luckily was able to stay with that despite his traveling. By age 10 his parents had finally settled down in Altoona, PA after living in Japan, England, Germany and a few other places. It took him a few year but he eventually became an Eagle scout, sometime during high school and it was during high school that he decided to join the military.
At the young age of 18, he signed the papers for the marines and two months later was sent to Perry Island for training. at the age of twenty he applied for the Marine scout sniper school in hopes that he could be a sniper. Months of training had past and despite coming close to failure he managed to pass. Three years had gone by until he was asked by his commanding officer if he was interested in a secret project called "Spectre". Nervous about the offer he asked for time to think but was given the ultimatum to choose now or never. Reluctantly he agreed and was sent to a facility operated by both NASA and the USAF, an area 52 of sorts. There, he begun training as a HVF mech pilot with another 30 chosen few. This training went on for about a 2 and a half years before he was picked for the project. By age 38 he had been piloting and completing missions with the SSTA-0317.
Model: SSTA-0317 "Spectre"
Specialty: Multipurpose Sub-Orbital/Orbital Drop Stealth Surveillance and Target Acquisition
History:
Classified Information: The Mirage was a "concept" design for use within SODD (Sub-Orbital Drop Division) before schematics were transferred over and revamped with the Department of Joint Science Defense Advancement, or DJSDA (DJess-Dah) for short. It was a development between The United States, England and Japan in order to provide a multipurpose scout unit that can deployed in orbit or dropped into orbit if necessary. GenTech, UKBK Industries with the help of Merrill AD, Locheed and Martin and Rock Island Arsenal came together under UN supervision to create a special forces unit that could be used for the OSDT military anywhere they needed it. Head Engineer Dr. John Kechler of GenTech and UKBK's head designer, Dr. Hiro Usanagi came up with the concept and brought the idea to a meeting between the two companies who both agreed to the construction of at least one of these HFVs and so they got to work. Relying heavily on GenTech's reverse environment optical plates for stealth and UBKB's technology for its cabin and other systems, they turned to Merrill Aviation and Defense for the armored ligaments and torso plating such as chest plates, leg and arm armour and AECs (Armored Extremities Covers) and skeletal head pit (cockpit for the pilot sits in the head). The Armor for Mirage was made to be "light enough to allow for combat effectiveness while minimizing the hindrance in mobility and low defense". Made out special prototype materials combined with ReACT ballistic armor and GenTech "Mirage" camo, it essentially gave the stealth mech high mobility while still providing combat effectiveness and stealth capabilities, overcoming the problems that were brought up with its armoured design. With everything in place construction began.
During its development, arguments about its armaments began. Most opted for beam rifle among the standard armaments most HFVs had or its variants but with the advancement of electromagnetic propulsion and ammunition it was agreed upon to go with Rock Island's "Severence". A specially designed rail cannon meant for Orbital/Sub-Orbital to Terra engagement. Considered to be the Barrett of rail cannons mostly due to its large 255mm rounds and range capabilities, it was settled. Rock Island Arsenal and GenTech got together to create Spectre's new rifle, adding Mirage plating around it to allow stealth camouflage. Some changes were needed to allow it to work on terra which only then gave it more versatility. UKBK Ind. added its Affirmative Targeting Solution System, ATSS, into the scope and synced it with the rest of the mechs systems, officially making the Spectre a force to be reckoned with. Once the project was finished a a few "test flights" were made they gave the Spectre a green light for field testing. This however, was halted when the DJSDA took over the project. The rest of its history is unkown unfortunately and many have tried getting their hands on it but have failed.
Appearance:
Spectre stands at around 18.4 meters with a slender design. Its armour comes in three different camouflage schemes: Mutilcam, DesertFox, Shadowstalker. On the arm of the mech is Maynards special symbol.
Features: -Sub-Orbital/Orbital "MARCO" Long Range Sensors (UBKB Ind.) -Terra Scan "POLO" Long Range Scanner Sensors (UBKB Ind.) -LFHO (Low Frequency-High Output) Radio Systems (UBKB/Locheed) -Affirmative Targeting Solution System (Ats for short. UBKB/Rock Island Arsenal) -Deployable Reverse Environment Optical Camouflage Ghillie and Canopy (GenTech/UBKB Ind.) -Dual M431 AC "Synister" Nuclear Reactors (Locheed/Martin/UBKB Ind.) -Advanced Reactive "Mirage Buster" Armour (GenTech/Merrill AD) -AN/ALQ-888 Infrared Jamming Systems (GenTech/Locheed) -Heel, Calf, Back and Shoulder Thruster/Compensator boosters (Lochheed/Martin) -Advanced Sound refraction suspension and mechanics (Locheed/GenTech) -Selective response "Aberrant" shielding
Armaments: -255mm Multipurpose Supersonic Electromagnetic Railgun Cannon "Severence" with UBKB Ind. software (Links together with the ATSS). Uses UBKB Rock Island scope and silencer made with Merrill AD and GenTech "Mirage" armour for camouflage. Rounds consist of DU rounds, HVAP and cluster rounds. -155mm concealed Howitzer wrist cannons (chambered 8 rounds each) -Situation Multipurpose Launchers (Smoke, Flares, Incendiary) -Silenced 60mm Vulcan hand cannon (20 rounds) -Superheated beam blade "Excalibur" (mechs tactical knife)
Weaknesses: First and foremost, it is meant to be a ranged unit. Mechs that close its gap have a higher chance of taking down Spectre if they find him. Secondly, some of its important systems are still considered prototypes despite the time and effort that has been put into them, leaving chance for failure (Which I will roll for depending on what it does).
In the event that I do so, I request that it be treated as though the Paper Tiger team went back to X Corp having considered this the end of their field test. I do not give permission for the G-Valkyrie to be used after my departure, in the event that I do leave.
On that note, no one is to use Judah or any mass-produced Judah derivatives, either. I can't speak for @Onarax or @Silvan Haven, but chances are good that the Sword Shroud and the Ball are in the same boat.

ok with the amount of talk of departures and whatnot I'm still skeptical that this is a thing, despite what Kray told me in the interest check. How many people did this thing start off with compared to now?

13 of the PCs had their join/addition dates as '2 Months ago', so 13.
I can't speak for the game as a whole. Unfortunately, Paper Tiger's presence in it seems to be at an end. I would have preferred to stay, but there are some issues that have not been, nor does it seem they will be, addressed.
You may, but respectfully, I will decline to answer. Many come down to differences of opinion and attitude regarding certain factors between Paper Tiger and @Crimmy.

This reminds me; G-Valkyrie derivatives are off the table, too. The setting wouldn't really allow for them in the first place, but I wish to be clear. X Corp should not be touched either.
now I know you can't approve CSs but would you be able to take a look at least at my mech? Just to see if there is anything you know crimmy will be asking me about?
