"In the Grim Darkness of the 41st Millennium, there is Only War"
Hello 40k fans!
Are you a lore nut whose always wanted to get into the table top? Maybe you have models and play irl but want to expand into different armies and lists but don't have the money? Or perhaps you're someone completely new to the franchise and want to know what the 41st Millennium is all about and want to get in?
Well, I got an answer for you, Vassal40k! Vassal40k is a mod for the Vassal Engine, a frame work engine in which you can load in modules to play various tabletop games which in this case is Warhammer 40k. To start, you must first download the Vassal Engine which can be found here. Then after that download the 40k module which can be found here. After that you're all set!
Here's a video demostrating how to download the Vassal Engine and Vassal40k but more importantly, the ins and outs of Vassal40k which would be too much for me to explain here. (I honestly still have issues with some of these buttons sometimes.)
Once you have learned how to use Vassal40k, you can then load in your own Armies by making them in Vassal or making entirely new lists that's you've always wanted to try but couldn't in vassal with the help of list builders such as 40k List Builder, EpicRoster, or downloading Battlescribe. Ever want to do nothing but Ork boyz/Imperial Guard/Cultist swarms? Now you can! Ever wanted to just have Imperial/Renegade Knights duke it out? Get your mecha fix today! Ever wanted to use a Barrel of Monkeys in a battle? Go bananas!
Incase you're someone new to the franchise entirely, here are two videos and some helpful links which may help you around. Be warned, the 40k universe is a large and daunting one so it will take you a decent period of time to really know about it. Personally I took somewhere in the area of a solid month to really start understanding everything. Of course there's also always the people in the 40k chat channel in the guild Discord who are willing to talk and help you under stand stuff provided we're awake and not faffing about committing heresy.
Sites:
- 40k Wikia - Wikia for 40k, self explanatory
- 40k Lexicanum - A much more professional looking, in-depth version of the 40k Wikia basically
- 1d4chan's Wiki for 40k - Made by those fine neckbeards and fa/tg/uys of 4chan's /tg/ board (tabletop games). This is by far the least professional but it combines both lore, interpretations of lore, tabletop stats and tactics and memes all into one. Personally I found this to be the most helpful (and funny).
Happy wargaming people; from all of the people who enjoy 40k lore and tabletop both on site and in general,
we hope that you too will find 40k to be as interesting and enjoyable as we have.
And remember, the Emperor Protects!
