The world of Pokemon is about as chipper as one can get. Unfortunately, the number of dedicated trainers has decreased over the years as people have started to favor more stable, white collar positions in the workfield. This is where YOU come in. The researchers at New Bark Laboratory have decided to start a giveaway to help stimulate trainer activity in the region. And the winners? They get their very own Pokedex, free supply of Pokeballs at any Pokemart, free nights at any Pokecenter, and even free storage of any Pokemon caught along their journey!
Gimme a rundown of this rp. Down to its core, this will be a chapter-based rp focused mainly on each players story while I act as gm, guiding you along the way out of character. You’ll be traversing through a region, collecting badges, doing whatever it is you wish to do on your journey.
Wait, what exactly do you mean by “chapter”? For each new section of the region we enter (be it a city/route/etc), I’ll give a brief overview of the setting, wild Pokemon that are eligible for capture (if applicable), and even some tasks that you may participate in! Of course, nothing will be mandatory unless stated, but the rewards for completing the listed events may just be worth writing about. ;)
How do Pokemon and evolution work? Technically, there will be “levels”, but only to help judge a Pokemons strength. Talk of levels should be kept ooc. As for moves, Pokemon can learn the moves they normally would through leveling up. HMs and TMs are nonexistent and egg moves my only be taught when given permission by the gm (aka me :D). There’s no cap for how many moves Pokemon can learn either. As for evolution, Pokemon will evolve once they reach the respective level they normally would evolve at. I’ll be giving out levels to Pokemon at the end of every post if I feel your Pokemon is worth it and you may not evolve your Pokemon without my express permission. Trade and held item evolution will be handled as if they were a regular, level based evolutions as well. Mega evolution doesn’t exist either. Sorry :p
And capturing? Capturing wild Pokemon will work a little differently than you’re probably used to. If you plan on catching anything, please be sure to leave the ball rumbling at the end of your post so I can decide whether your post was sufficient or not.
So how do I apply? Easily! Unlike traditional rps, rather than having you fill out just a character skeleton, The Professor is asking all aspiring trainers to send her an introductory letter about their self. This is your chance to get creative! Include as much or as little detail about your trainer. You can write about their hobbies, history, personality, really anything you think will net The Professors interest! If you don’t plan on including much detail, please make note of at least your characters name, age, appearance, and preferred pronouns. And yes, pictures are acceptable, but be sure to describe anything that isn’t visible in said picture such as scars/height/etc.
Don’t we need a starter Pokemon? Go ahead and choose one from the list above this hider. Those sprites aren't there just for decoration, you know. :p
The letter is very gaudy, obviously trying to get the attention of the Professor before S/He even opens the envelope. Within the envelope is a multitude of papers, all beautifully written except for the obnoxious faces.
Greetings, dearest Professor Juniper! I am Perdy, a soon to be renown entertainer and host of my own WONDERFUL show! (There's a small picture to the left he drew of his own face, flashing a huge grin with stars all around him) Oh, but I'm getting ahead of myself! You wanted to know about me, didn't you? Well thankfully, there's much to tell, as these pages may reveal! I am fifteen years of age, and yes, that's quite young to have a show on television, but you get nowhere in the business if you let things like that get in the way! "Sweep it under the rug," I always said!
Anyhow, ever since birth, was always destined to be a star! My first glance at a TV was a wonderful display of talent from the Sinnoh region! The talent was of course Ric Heirmon's great live-action movie, "Piplup in Love!" Just thinking about how hard that poor Pokemon fought for the affection of Scraggy... Only to learn he loved her all along! I cry every single time! (The pages seem to have been slightly wet at one point.)
I wish to produce such master pieces one day in my life! But, in order to do such a thing, I feel I must TRULY get in touch with Pokemon. Believe it or not, I have never had a Pokemon! I was so distracted in my dreams of stardom, I never found myself out on a journey... It didn't help that my father was much too busy to even consider searching for a Pokemon for me... He's a business man, you see. Always out and about, even to varying regions! I was mostly stuck watching TV during our trips, or my time alone at home in Goldenrod, or in the hotel rooms.
It was hectic, but my life wasn't one of suffering! My father worked hard, and always made sure I had the necessities. I wasn't rich, of course, but I never had to worry! Such things cause one to grow soft, no? So I figured if ANYTHING could make my life interesting, it'd be a pokemon journey! Exploring the unknown! Battling Pokemon! Chasing legends and terrifying dangers! Just the though, oh, I LOVE IT.
The DRAMA! The THRILLS! The thought is enough to make me self-destruct! I am extremely hopeful when I ask that you aid me in going on my journey! It's not a one-sided offer, either! Consider when I'm famous, you and your lab will grow in popularity tenfold for helping a rising star in his humble beginnings! And I'll even put a Special Thanks in my first movie! "Teddiursa In Love!" It's going to be great, it's all about...
(There are two full pages about the plot of his movie, it's cliche and mushy, but a lot of people are into that kind of thing... Maybe even the Professor in question. Eventually it ends...)

Greetings Professor Juniper,
My name is Maria Conway, age 15. I'm currently, living in Fuschia City in Kanto, but I am willing to travel to Johto for this opportunity. (The first photo of the bunch is a picture of Maria). I don't have any experience as a trainer, but I do have some experience with tracking and finding pokemon. My dream is to become a professional field photographer and I think becoming a pokemon trainer will help with that. I've already taken several photos around my city and even in the local safari zone. (Many of the rest of the photos are of pokemon from the safari zone and a few pokemon and people from in the town itself.) But I hope through my travels as a trainer, not only will I get to find pokemon in their natural habitat but also get to capture real magic between pokemon and humans. There's a lot of amazing things out there to see; places, battles, people and pokemon in general, and I want to not only see it but show them to the world. (The last photo is of a battle between Koga and another trainer, captured right before Koga's Venamoth collides with the trainer's pikachu.)
Besides which, there's a lot of useful things I could learn by becoming a trainer! I already mentioned finding pokemon, which would surely help in filling the pokedex, but also participating in battles and getting my pokemon stronger will help in case I run into any troubles later on! Not to mention if I'm known as a fairly good battler, it may very well open up opportunities later on. Also actually going out into the world to travel will teach my how to traverse all kinds of different terrain! And...well there's quite a bit more, but I'm sure you have more letters to look through and read so I'll end off here. Just know that this will mean the world to me if I am picked, and thank you kindly for taking the time to read this letter.

A brown seal the colour (and smell) of coffee with the image of a pair of dark sunglasses bars the entrance of any unwanted eyes to the letter held within. Opening the envelop brings the sight of a neatly folded letter with elegant script detailing the sender's interests.]
Addressed to: Professor Juniper
Greetings.
This letter should have arrived at your doorstep courtesy of my personal assistant, and so the need to introduce myself should be deemed unnecessary.
[Should the professor look upon the evidently tired young woman who had handed the envelope to them, she would show them her phone with BRIAR's profile already loaded up.]
Then again, even without that simpering fool right there with you, I doubt my name has fled your mind ever since you've seen me on television or heard me on the radio. That's right, Professor. Be honoured, for the one and only BRIAR has chosen you to be the recepient of a handwritten letter. My hordes of fans would kill to be in your position, so do not squander the sensation by letting fools like my assistant and what other sad excuses for applicants you have outshine my words.
[There was an evident pause in the writing.]
Oh? My assistant just informed me that Perdy has also sent you a letter. How quaint. That talentless sap got into the industry due to pure luck. I would bet one of my many, many expensive vehicles that he even had some relatives within. Nepotism is a curse. Unlike me, the great BRIAR whose life is as dramatic and brilliant as a movie. Several, in fact, have been produced detailing my rise to glory. I'm sure you've watched them. Such masterpieces, don't you think? But I digress. I meant to tell you about my rise to glory, which I assume you already know through my aforementioned films. Either way, I grew up at an orphanage, abandoned by foolish, idiotic parents who failed to see the gift thrust upon them by the cosmos. The plebians I shared that roof with were of the nastiest sort and I was determined to rid myself of their grime as soon as possible. At the wee age of three, I began to join singing competitions around Unova, all of which I won. Of course, I did.
Following my eight trophy, I was five then, someone who finally understood I was a star chained to the earth decided to liberate me. I'm sure you know of him. He's my producer, the magnificent Shou Prism. He brought me to the spotlight at the age of seven, after numerous workshops that I didn't really need as I was already flawless. Still, I blew the crowd away, and the rest, as they say, is history. I now have three platinum albums under my belt, four films where I am the lead actress, more awards that I can count, and wealth to rival any in all the regions.
Now, I'm sure you must already be jumping to the opportunity I'm presenting you, but allow me to explain just exactly how I can be of use to you. You seek to inspire people to become Trainers again, yes? Here you have in front of you a very talented, insanely popular, and undoubtedly magnificent woman prepared to offer her services. Give me a Pokemon, let me wander around your region with a camera to show my fans the wonder and joys and whatever of having a Pokemon, and before you know it, you'll have thousands scampering to rid your little laboratory of your critters.
I know what you must be thinking. Oh great BRIAR, how lucky are we that you're willing to do this for us. And for free too. Well, let me just say that I love my fans, and I am willing to sacrifice my designer boots in order to show them what they're missing.

[Should the Professors ask the assistant what the true reason behind BRIAR's letter, the assistant would fidget and hesitate before revealing that she was also a fan of her boss and was already used to their attitude, but a video had been released to the public which soured their image to their fans. Now, they're using Pokemon to endear themselves to the people again.]

Does this mean we can have any starter? 1b) Connecting to the first question, can the starter be a basic pokemon that doesn't evolve or only has one evolution? (Tauros, Miltank, Audino [No Evo] Teddiursa, Scyther, Skrelp [Only one Evo])

ill add everyones pokemon to the first post in the character thread as soon as you obtain it from the professor ic (spoiler :p). the only reason i added raddums vanillite was so i could keep note of the format i wanted to use and not forget it lol
