Setting
Warm sunlight, bright blue sky and the gentle sound of waves nearby. The smell of salt and the damp cold of your ocean soaked clothes. These are the first things greet your senses as you awaken and open your eyes. Sitting up, you find yourself on stretch of beach, not far from a bustling port city that squats like some great beast, hugging the coastline. How did you get here? It takes a moment before you muddled mind remembers. The storm that came in the night. You tried your best to save the ship, your ship. But the waves and the wind were too much. As you watched the masts snap and felt the keel give way under your feet, you knew that your beautiful ship was literally dead in the water. As the realisation hit you so too did the wave that washed you overboard. That you had survived was a miracle, but now your ship was sunk, along with it's expensive cargo. The owner of that cargo, who hired you to transport it, would not be happy. Repayment would be demanded. If you couldn't pay, what fate would await you? Imprisonment? Assassination? Worse? You need money. But without a ship, how will you get it? Perhaps an answer can be found in the nearby city.
The City of Vailia
Welcome to Vailia. Once a small port town, Vailia's island location between several major kingdoms and the safety from the elements provided by the natural harbor saw Vailia grow prosperous on the backs of both trade and smuggling. Like any port, Vailia saw it's far share of the sex trade, however when one particularly ambitious whore arrived in town, the future of Vailia would change forever. She started by accumulating enough wealth to buy a brothel of her own, and then formed partnerships with other brothels. Money is power, and slowly the balance of power in Vailia shifted from the merchant lords to the whores. Together they formed the Vailian Guild of Escorts, responsible for the regulation, training and protection of every licensed whore and brothel in Vailia. Soon even the guard were in the guild's pocket. And now, over a century later, the prosperous city of Vailia is a city that runs on sex.
