Gray gave Natsu a push with his foot. "Get off the floor you pink haired moron. You're not that hurt." His deep blue eyes rolled as he tucked his hands into the pockets of his jeans. Weird pink hard idiot. Moving from his 'friend' on the floor he made his way over to the job board where the newest member of the guild was standing. He began to scan the board looking for a job but it didn't take long before he came to the same conclusion as the new girl. A defeated sigh left his fine lips as he crossed his arms over his chest.

He stood there for a few moments before looking down at her. "Welcome to the Guild. I'm Gray Fullbuster." With that he extended out his hand to her. Gray was never the most friendly person in the guild but he was never one to turn away a fellow guild member in a conversation. He respected his guild and his mates so why not talk to someone new?

Kit looked over at Gray when he spoke. He seemed to have calmed down a bit. She took his hand and gave it a quick, strong shake. She noticed his hand was a little cold. Likely from his use of ice-make earlier. She kept her gaze on his face out of politeness. She figured she should introduce herself in return. Otherwise she'd get some weird nickname based on her hair color or magic. "Sorry we kinda got off on the wrong foot, I'm Kit Stone." she said letting go after a moment.

She turned her attention back to the job board. Maybe they could do a job together. She shook her head at that thought. Like he'd want to team up with the girl who zapped his butt a minute ago. She cleared her throat and looked back at him. "Since there aren't any solo jobs would you like to team up? I promise I won't use thunder magic on ya." she asked glancing over at Natsu and sighing.

At her statement of getting off on the wrong foot he waved his hand. “Nah, you’ll fit in just fine here. Just be careful, you hit the wrong person and you’ll welcome a brawl.” He said with a nod. Natsu had regained himself and was storming off to the other side of the guild before Gray rolled his dark blue eyes and looked back at the new girl. “Nice to meet you Kit.” A polite nod road and fell his head as he gaze over the job request board.

Reaching out, he snagged one of the jobs off the board and read it aloud. “10,000 jewel to recover lost necklace. Stolen by thieves that have been hitting the homes in the area.” He then turned his gaze to the board and snagged the nearby job. “Police need assistance with catch local house thieves. Reward 50,000 Jewel.” Folding up both jobs and sticking them in his pocket he turned to the new girl. “Seeing as these jobs require two people do you want to work together on your first job?”

Kit thought about the two jobs Gray just mentioned. They sounded similar to each other. Something in her gut said that the thieves who stole the necklace were the same ones the police were after. Kill two birds with one stone so to speak. It sounded like a good idea to her. She made sure to make a mental note to be a bit more careful with who she hit. Still, it was nice to know that he thought she would fit in well. She glanced over to where Natsu had stormed off and sighed shaking her head.

At the mention of teaming up for her first mission she gave a small nod. It would be better to have an experienced member by her side. On top of that, Gray was the only one she really seemed to know. Natsu had stormed off and none of the other members had spoken to her yet. "Sure, it'd be nice to have someone around who knows the area well. Plus you're pretty strong from what I can see." she said signaling to his muscles as well as some of the ice still in the guild hall. If anything she might end up gaining a powerful friend out of this. "So, where are the jobs exactly?"

When she agreed he nodded, then her complement about his muscles and his magic made him smirk slightly, as they started towards the exit of the guild he answered her question. “Era, it will be a 4 hour train ride, we’ll probably have to stay the night in Era considering it’s late in the day.” He said with a nod as they left the guild hall and stepped out into the sun.

Shading his eyes with his hands he squinted in the bright sun. His gaze moved back to the girl he was walking with. There was a comfortable silence between them before he spoke up after a bit of walking. “What type of Lightening Magic do you use?” His only reference to lightening magic wasn’t exactly the best after that Loxus did but not every lightening magic is the same. It’s all based on the user and he would know.

Kit walked along side him as they headed for the train station. She had to shield her eyes at first as well. It was fairly bright outside. Neither really talked until Gray broke the silence. He seemed a bit interested in her magic.

No two lightning mages were the same. Each mage had their own signature wavelength. It was like a fingerprint in a way. Kit shrugged as she walked. "I suppose it would be called lightning-make if you wanted to be precise. You know, things like hurling balls of lightning or making weapons like arrows and javelins out of it. What I did to you and Natsu was just coating my fist in lightning and hitting ya." She explained. Just for show she coated her fist again for a moment so he could see. However, she made no move to touch him with it.

“Interesting.” He said with a nod as he watched the lightening cover her hand, Loxus was the only one he knew that could do lightening magic so it was nice to meet someone who wasn’t… well crazy, and could do that kind of magic. A nod rose and fell his head as he looked forward. “Cool, haven’t seen a lightening mage in a long time.” Sliding his large hands into his pockets he pulled out his wallet when they got to the station.

“Two tickets to Era.” Gray explained to the ticket master and handed the money to them before taking the ticket and offering it to her. “Here.” Not really giving her a reason why he bought both their tickets, he started towards the area where their train would be.

Kit reached out and took the ticket from him. She noticed he had paid for them before she could even reach for her wallet. She figured it was because she was new. He was just trying to be nice so she didn't bother asking why he did that. "Right, thanks." she said heading for the train as well.

She had only been to this station once and that had been earlier in the day. Shrugging she looked around for their train and had to cover her ears when the whistle blew. "All aboard for Era!" the conductor called loudly over the whistle. They had just made it in time so Kit gently grabbed Gray's arm and gave it a quick tug in the direction of the train. "Come on ice boy. We got some thieves that need their asses kicked." she said smirking at him.

Upon her saying ‘thanks’ he gave a simple nod in place of ‘you’re welcome’. As a fellow guild member and her first mission she was most likely lacking funds and Gray, well Gray wasn’t so there was no reason why he couldn’t help her out. That’s what being in a guild is all about.

The shout from the conductor draw his attention. His head turned as her small hand moved onto his arm and tugged him in the direction. “Calm down sparky.” A playful tone escaped his fine lips. She was excited and he couldn’t blame her. They arrived on the train with her bags in due time and he took the seat across from her. Elbow propped up on the window ceil, his dark blue gaze watched the whizzing by trees before it turned back to her. “Are you from Magnolia?”

Kit laughed a little at the nickname. It was fitting since she was a lightning mage. Then again she called him ice boy. She watched the trees whizz past as well. Four hours is what Gray had said it would take. When he asked where she was from she sheepishly rubbed her head. Was it that obvious she wasn't from Magnolia? "Outside Hargeon. Heard about Fairy Tail beating up some dude pretending to be Salamander and kinda wanted to try and become a member of it." she said glancing over at him.

From how Gray was talking it sounded like he was curious about her. Not that there was much to say. If he wanted to play twenty questions he could. So long as he was careful what he asked and didn't get too personal. This was going to be an interesting job.

When she mentioned about the guy she found copying to be Salamander he scuffed before shaking his head. “Why people would pretend to be Natsu is beyond me. One Natsu is enough.” Gray’s head rose and fell with a nod before he tilted his head to one side. She wasn’t much of a talker, which is different from almost everyone else in the Guild. Most people preferred to be loud and annoying to the point it was headache-causing. Unlike any other Guild, they were a problem guild causing lots of accidents but, there was no comparing to the respect and love the guild felt for one another. Like he said when they first met, they were family.

“So you heard about Fairy Tail because you were beating up some guy to was pretending to be one? That’s an unusual motivation to join.”

Kit laughed a little bit at that. She hadn't really beaten him up exactly. She wasn't sure what to tell him exactly. "From what I saw of Natsu. One of him is more than enough. We really don't need another crazy fire mage running around." She said shaking her head. "What really struck me as odd was the fact he was using magic items. He had all the girls in hargeon swooning at his every word. If you ask me it was pathetic. I'd much rather a guy who resorts to using his brain. Oh and definitely one who won't cause me to get a nosebleed the minute I meet him. How'd you get that habit anyways? I've never seen someone subconsciously strip in public to their boxers." She asked. "As for what motivated me to join; it was people saying you never left a guild mate behind. Most guilds wouldn't think twice about leaving someone behind if it meant they still got the job money. I guess in truth I was looking for a place to call home and Fairy Tail fit the bill."

It wasn't that Kit didn't talk much. She just really had no idea what to ask or say. "Sorry if I seem quiet... I didn't think I'd be able to join fairy tail let alone find someone that would come along for my first job. I mean do we even have a plan or are we going to go in lighting and ice at the ready?"

“Natsu’s just a pain in the ass.” Gray muttered into his arms as he looked down at them. As much as he wanted to say he hated the guy, he knew that he didn’t. He had a lot of respect for Natsu and did honestly care about the nutjob but that doesn’t mean that they needed to get along per say.

Her question about his stripping caused him to raise his gaze to her. It was a common question he got asked but not a common one he answered depending on who was asking. Seeing as she was now a member of Fairy Tail she could probably hear it, “My master who taught me my magic trained me in the mountains where, in order to control our abilities we were trained embrace the cold and in doing so we stripped down to our underwear and practiced.” His head rose and fell with a nod before his broad shoulders shrugged, “Nothing’s better than training in your environment and because of that I can handle ice magic better than most ice mages but… I do tend to strip unconsciously before a fight.” His cheeks turned a small shade of pink as he looked out the window waiting for his face to cool down in embarrassment.

When she asked if they would have a plan, his eyes twinkled with excitement. He was one for a plan, that’s for sure. “I function best with a plan. We should find the thieves hide out first, survey the area and look for points of entry. Once we find how to get in and how many there are we’ll set up a plan of attack to take them down and get them to the station. If we take them there than we came come back and search the place for the necklace; what do you think?”

Kit listened intently to his explanation. It made a lot of sense now. She found it kind of cute when he blushed suddenly. Like he was embarrassed by the fact he did it. From her perspective after hearing his story it sounded like a habit that kept his teacher's lessons close to him. "Hey, I never said there was anything wrong with it. If it made ya stronger at wielding ice maker magic then it was worth the outcome. just wish there was something like that for mine. I may use lightning maker but I'm not stupid enough to actively hunt down a thunderstorm and get myself struck by it." she signaled to her long hair. "I already have enough trouble keeping it outta my face as is. I don't need it resembling a porcupine as well."

His plan of action sounded decent. They would just have to be careful not to get caught while surveying. Thieves never played nice so there was more than likely going to be a few traps laying around. "We should make some kind of a signal for if we find something or get caught. How good are ya at whistling? Cus yelling out 'ice boy' or 'sparky' will draw too much attention and likely get one of us beaten to a pulp." she added.

The thought of her standing outside in a thunderstorm attempting to get struck by lightning made him chuckle. Though the idea of her getting hurt wasn’t what was humorous but just the general thought pattern of it. Closing his deep blue eyes, he shook his head softly before slowly opening his eyes once again and looked at her. “I think you’re going to fit in well with Fairy Tail.” He said with a grin, his voice filled the train car as he smiled at her. Gray was known for being rather blunt and honest so it should come as no surprise that he would speak his mind at this moment too.

Upon her asking if he could whistle he nodded. “Yes I can, I can whistle rather loudly or softly depending on how far away you are.” He looked out the window towards the oncoming city. Well talking really did make the trip fast. “This shouldn’t take too long; it should only take us a day to accomplish this. But we need to take the guys into the police station or else the police will take create for our capture and we won’t be able to collect the reward. Trust me, I’ve dealt with this a lot.”

Kit nodded in understanding. There were a lot of people who would try to take credit for a mage's work. She hadn't seen it first hand but she had heard about it around town. She glanced out the window at the same time he did and chuckled. Talking really did help pass the time. She had to smile though when he said she'd fit in.

She stretched a little since they had been sitting for a long time. The first matter of business would be finding a place to stay. A faint growling came from her side of the car and she sheepishly rubbed her head. That was embarrassing but she was kind of hungry. "Eheh... Long travels can make a person hungry. I think once we find the client we find somewhere to eat and rest. I don't have much but I'll chip in what I can." she said looking for her wallet in her bag. She certainly traveled lighter than most; only carrying the bare necessities. She certainly had a lot of stamina to make the trip from Hargeon to Magnolia and then to Era. "Lets just hope we can get two rooms..." she muttered, praying that Era wasn't extremely busy this time of year.

It wasn't that she didn't like Gray. She just didn't think they were on friendly enough terms to share a room. That and it would get very awkward if his 'habit' kicked in if they had to share a room. Still, she found that Gray was a pretty nice guy to talk to when there was something to talk about.

When she mentioned that she would chip in he grabbed his bag from the storage area over his head and waved his hand. “Nah, you can just pay me back some other time.” He said with a nod as he led the way off the train. His body shifted through the crowd with ease and understanding of how the massive groups worked. Despite his quickness, he did make sure to glance over his shoulder every once and a while to insure that the newbie was keeping up with him. She didn’t know what it took to be a guild wizard just yet but she chose Fairy Tail and he had no intention on living her high and dry.

The chatter on the streets wasn’t very comforting. Apparently the groups of thugs stealing things were making threats. Some sentences that could be heard from the passersby was ‘I heard that if you were a bounty wizard or a guild wizard they’d target you for more than just theft in fear of you catching them.’ And ‘I heard they have eyes and ears all over town. People working for the gang just to keep themselves off their radar for theft and worse.’ Those words rang in his ears, if they stood out it would be a problem. Soon he fell back into step with Kit instead of being a couple paces in front of her. Safety in numbers.

After meeting with the client about the necklace and getting a warning of ‘these are bad guys’ and blah blah blah, nothing new, they went on their search for a place to stay the night before their hunt began tomorrow morning.

“The only hotel in town with reservations still is…” Gray’s gaze turned upwards at the cheap looking motel, oh well he had been in worse. A shrug rose and fell his shoulder as the two ventured inside, before arriving to the desk he overheard the desk clerk on the phone.

“Yes, we have one room left… yeah the festival tomorrow is drawing in a lot of people… yeah I hope everything goes smoothly too… oh a couple just walked in. I’ll call you back.” After the clerk hung up the two were greeted with a pleasant smile.

Thinking on his feet, the midnight blue haired man reached out with his free hand and grabbed Kit by her waist, instantly pulling her to his side. “1 room for 2 please.” He said brightly, a cheesy grin on his face.

“Aren’t you two adorable!” The clerk said as he clicked away on the computer. “And lucky too, our last room is our king suite were most love bird’s stay.” At that Gray dropped his bag on the counter and fished out his wallet. He did everything with one hand keeping a good grip on Kit in hopes she’d play along or at least keep her from squirming away and blowing his cover. He paid for the room without giving it a second thought and threw the receipt back into his bag.

He led the way down the hall before stopping and looking over his shoulder. “Oh can you drop by an extra blanket. My girl gets cold at night but she’s always too shy to ask for it.” The clerk, beaming at Gray, nods to indicate that he would bring a blanket before the two disappear down the hallway.

Gray did not let up on her until they were inside the room and the door was shut. “Sorry about that. The conversations on the street weren’t exactly comforting so it seemed like a better idea to give off the impression that we were a couple than partners. And don’t worry, I’ll sleep on the floor you can have the bed.” He said as he dropped his bag on the end table and sat down on the corner of the bed pulling out the information they had gathered from the client and a town map. He spread out the map on the bed and looked up at her. “Where do you think we should start?”

Kit had heard the whispers as well. It sounded like it was worse than they may have first thought. It was true she had little idea about what a guild wizard really faced. Some of the whispers had her a little worried. She didn't want to see her new friend killed over a necklace. She stayed quiet until they reached the motel.

When Gray pulled her close she turned a bright red shade. She didn't squirm and let him handle the situation for now. She'd wait until they were out of hearing range before talking to him about it. It was a little awkward and once the door was shut she quickly broke away from him. He had acted on his feet but that didn't explain why he seemed alright with playing them off as a couple.

She sat on the opposite side of the bed and stared down at the map. The clerk had mentioned something about a festival the next day. While it explained the lack of rooms it also sent up a warning flag for her. "The clerk mentioned a festival. Its the perfect chance for the thugs to come out and sneakily bump into people to steal the festival go-ers things. Best guess would be go where the most people will be. Somewhere with at least two ways in and out, crowded, and easy for someone to scout from the rooftops." she said staring at the map. "If I learned anything from living in Hargeon, the town square and the marketplace would be the most likely target areas. People will be too distracted getting souvenirs to notice someone pick pocketing them."

Her idea of going to the festival made his face cringe. “The idea of going to the festival is something I don’t agree with…” Gray’s face scrunched together in thought. “Our goal is to find their base not to protect the people. Plus the police will be active at the festival so I question how many active members will be weaving through people instead of trying to steal from homes or…” His deep eyes shifted around the room, “hotel rooms.”

A nod rose and fell his head as he thought a bit more on situation. “Or… we could plant a decoy. A helpless rich looking young lady with an easy grab item like a…” He held out his hand and placed his fist on his open palm. Opening his fist he revealed an ice necklace with a large looking ‘gem’ on it. “a necklace hanging loosely from her bag.” He said with a nod, a small smile on his face. “If they grab it we can follow it and going where their hideout is. As long as you don’t let them know you know it’s taken we’ll be able to follow them to their base.”
