<Snipped quote by Dynamo Frokane>
It'll only become an issue if I feel like I'm being disrespected. Like I said, I'd let other people's reactions determine it. No one's bothered yet, so there's no problem. I prefer to stay one step ahead of problems, which is why I sent my initial post to you in the first place about it; I was looking for someone to inform me of the content, not for an argument.

As it currently stands, my PC is unable to even save images without basically breaking down on me. Opening up a video to check for content is simply not an option at all for the time being.

And like I said, flamebait is subjective, just as I pointed out being somewhat irked by the characterisation of the arena as a community wasn't an issue for some people but it was issue for others. Also there is a lot of passive aggressive mentioning of 'certain people on this site' and 'some members on here' which could be interpreted as toxic (not by me, just giving examples). The best way to moderate drama is through intent not by content. If I mean it as a joke then its a joke, if someone doesnt appreciate the joke then they can let me know and I will react accordingly with an apology/explanation etc. If you encourage mature resolutions then drama will be resolved more often than not on its own.

Most things are subjective, yeah. Technically, that comment irked you but it had no impact on me at all, so it's fairly apparent that it was definitely a subjective situation. I don't particularly view my comments as passive aggressive simply because I almost certain that the people I'm referring to (there's one exception, but since you're using it as an example I'll go with it, especially since it's no longer passive aggressive if the exception person in question was named, which they were) will neither be looking at this thread nor are most of them actually aware I have an issue with them since I've not made a scene out of it. If everyone on this site decides to automatically assume I'm referring to them then that's just paranoia; everyone has an issue with at least a few people here, I would imagine.

I do encourage mature resolutions, so if it actually does end up becoming an issue at some point, as you said, it'll be revolved without any real problem. As for moderating through intent rather than the content, that's precisely why I asked you in the first place; getting an idea of what was posted and understanding why it was posted were two sides of the same coin to me. You've given me a good answer, so there's no problem.

And this is where it all comes full circle, I agree with this, and the same logic must be applied to the video I posted, I'm of the opinion that no one over the age of 12 could really take that video as a personal attack on their broad appreciation of anime, but if someone IS paranoid enough to respond to it in that way then I can only resolve that through discussion.

I mentioned this in another thread but this is the difference between a conversation and a flame war.

I just thought the joke was unfunny and irrelevant to me, so I did not directly respond to it.

Well you are right about it being irrelevant to you, no one in video used your name.

Admittedly, it's entirely possible there will be people under twelve on this site, even if the internet is supposed to forbid it, but I understand what you're saying. Overall, I was just personally curious as to why it was posted up and such, since I'm not able to open videos myself for reasons I've explained. I've gotten all I needed to know.

I definitely perceive the line between a discussion and a flame war, and ultimately that's a line I watched get stepped over in the aforementioned thread in the arena forum, which, once again, I emphasize was not provoked by one of your "regulars" in the first place. I participate in arena battles more to experiment with new ideas I have in a simulation, per se, rather than for the sake of doing the battle itself. That doesn't mean I believe everyone who does it more for its own sake is toxic; in fact one of the "regulars" actually came into the thread near its conclusion and backed me up.

It's good to hear you're satisfied enough to move forward with it; very good step in the right direction.

Well like I said honestly even if the Arena Culprit in question was a 'regular' youd still be well within your right to critisize his behavior, my issue was with comments about the arena being inherintely abrasive and toxic because they like to write about combat which is simply a pig ignorant statement. But its obviously also ignorant for anyone to attack you for suggesting a simulation alternative especially when you arent telling they cant continue battles the way they want to.

I posted the video because I found it funny, if anyone found themselves deeply offended by it, then they can talk to me and have a non-flame war discussion about it.

I haven't worked on my NaNo project since day one, auuuuugh.

Also, ignorance would imply it wasn't a observation I made from my experiences but okay, think how you want and call other people ignorant if you feel like it.

Yeah, that’s why I try to participate in NaNoWriMo as a rule. If nothing else it will test myself as a writer, force me to be punctual with deadlines, and see how far my creativity will take me.

Oh, I'd have criticized them even if they were a mod, let alone a "regular", believe me. I won't be talked down to be anyone, and the worst that could possibly happen to me is I'd get banned; hardly something I'd lose any sleep over and a lot of other people would stand to lose out from that more than I would. Just for the record, the discussion in question actually had nothing to do with the fact that I use arena battles as a simulation; I was more throwing that out as a bit of trivia. At any rate, if I was going to criticize someone, it'd be the person in question; I don't believe in stereotyping entire bodies of people (the philosophy they all follow, perhaps, but not the people themselves), so my statements are always directly for the individual in question.

Admittedly, given that I find almost (there's exceptions) no internet jokes funny, I probably wouldn't have found it amusing myself, but there's obviously no problem with you finding it entertaining and wanting to post it up due to that. From what little I could tell, @Pudding's gif/image implied they got the joke.

@NekoMizu
Forcing yourself to write can reduce the quality of your work, so be aware of that. Nevertheless, it's good you're moving forward.

Nah I'm not forcing myself, but NaNoWriMo would be a good way to force myself to get into the mood, since there's actually a deadline set. But I find a month to be too short of a deadline for me to be honest. Maybe when I'm used to writing, I can start one of my other stories for NaNoWriMo.

The thing about writing in my experienceβ€” if you force your writing it’ll be contrived and possibly uninspired, but if you wait for your writing…. It’ll be possibly uninspired. You really don’t win in any case, so it really comes down to forcing yourself to write as sort of a literary β€œwarm up”. In many ways this is why I role-play, because even if I have creative droughts I still have this constant activity of writing and collaborating where I can keep this sort of momentum to write and be able to do it well.

Perhaps the better option would be to think of the deadline as writing a draft instead of the finished product?

Ha! That’s exactly the point of NaNoWriMo as a challengeβ€” it has never been about finishing a β€œfinished product” in thirty days. It’s about getting out a stream of ideas and content of a rough draft done within the deadline.

I don't know much about NaNoWriMo personally, I just know it's 30 days to get 50k words and that Dave is partaking in it. lel
