"Both Clinton and Trump are holding what they plan to be victory parties later this evening in New York City, about 20 blocks apart."

I feel fucking terrified. I believe Trump has this election at this point. I feel sick calling him my country's leader a man with that much hate. I hate Clinton too I didn't vote for her or Trump at the very least I can say that.

Calm down. Elections run people's emotions up because that is what campaigns are supposed to do, but this isn't an apocalyptic election. The future is going to be interesting because Trump isn't an easy figure to predict, but all those worst-case scenarios (on both sides mind you) aren't likely. We aren't electing a dictator, and I'd suspect most the people who voted for him are completely reasonable people who won't follow him into an overthrow of constitutional democracy.

2:20AM ET. All signs say Trump will be the next president. I am absolutely giddy when I think about everybody who lost -- $2billion worth of lobbyists, establishment democrats, establishment republicans, potentially the most corrupt candidate we've ever had (who oh by the way openly despises half the country), and last but certainly not least, the unprecedentedly biased media.

For all that I'm still rather disappointed in who won -- but short of the McMullin Miracle, this was the best outcome I think I could've hoped for given the shitty options. I would've liked to see the Democrats pick up the Senate, especially in the wake of this (totally suppressed) republican demographic turning out with such fervor -- I think the GOP will be all to eager to consolidate that support long-term, which means they're gonna be loathe to resist any Trumpisms that might come out of the executive branch (and there may be lots of those). We really could've used a potent blue counterpoint on the Hill. Say lavvy.

Waiting for things to officially be official -- but, uh, hey world, buckle up for the wildcard. I'm not sold on 'lock her up,' but surely we can get behind 'drain the swamp.' That's long overdue. Will it happen? .....no, almost certainly not, but then again we said the same thing about President Trump.

edit: Officially official. Welcome to Trumpland.

I know forums where people contemplated suicide so much they had a link to a suicide hotline.

I don't understand their sentiments. WW3, if it happens, will kill us just as cleanly and if it doesn't you have 2020 to try to find anyone who can fix trump's hypothetical mess. Such defeatism.

And wow, just wow. I thought this would drag on. But Hillary conceded, i'm actually shocked.

Shady would have been a better choice than Volatile.

I think we're in a more fragile state than most realize.

As an European I don't really have a bone to pick in this race, but watching all the salt on the internet is entertaining. The paranoia and fear mongering in particular is fucking hilarious.

Depends if Trump is serious about his Nato pledge. Then it could seriously tip European power towards Russia and leave Europe cold in the water if we bail out. The balance of power could seriously be altered.

What if Trump will be to us and Russia as Neville Chamberlain was to the UK and Germany?

"With this agreement, we-uh agree to conceded Ukrainian rights to Russian. In return: we will... not... have additional war. And I mean it. I spoke with Putin personally. Putin is a very agreeable person. I can trust him. You can trust me. This is valid. The issue is over. Over I tell you."

I already know Russian, tovarish.

You should stop fear mongering so much, Russia ain't gonna conquer Europe, anyone who claims otherwise clearly has no idea how politics works in this part of the world. The big threat right now is coming from Turkey and Erdogan, who's recreating a mini Fourth Reich there.

As someone who lives between the US' and Russia's spheres of influence, Trump is probably the better candidate for me, because his foreign policy isn't going to be as aggressive as Hillary's. Thus, less immigrants and regional instability for me.

You Americans should have chosen Hillary though.

I was surprised at the tone of Trump's acceptance speech. I knew he'd try to be presidential, I just didn't think he'd be so okay at it.

Russia did send a warship down the English channel :/ But yeah, I agree on Erdogan to some extent, how the EU has enabled him is disgusting.

Fuck you, Americans.

To be honest, the voices of reason in this thread are probably correct. It's not the end of the world. The president of the US is not an all-powerful dictator, and certainly for those of us outside of the US, Trump's focus on internal policy may actually, somehow, bode well.

But that's not really the point. Some hysteria about WWIII isn't why people are feeling sick.

The point is that you've collectively decided to put a moronic, selfish, lying, serial sexual abusing, racist, incompetent, populist, and all-round vile man at the head of your country. You've declared that this is the man your country wants to lead it, whose vision of America is one you want to bring to fruition. This is the way you think the world should be.

That is what makes people feel sick. They feel sick that they, as a person, are represented by a disgusting excuse for a human being. Their political voice on the world stage is that of Donald fucking Trump. Donald Trump is how the rest of the world now has to perceive as being representative of American people and American society, because you've pointed at his disgusting behaviour and proudly declared "this is who we are".

That would certainly make me feel sick. It makes me sick on behalf of those US citizens I know who absolutely do not deserve to be viewed in such a way. And it should make any of you who doesn't support Trump's circus shitshow feel sick, too. You deserve better than this.

Sometimes the ideas and principles are above the pure practicality. Saying "oh, it's not so bad, don't be hysterical" is disingenuous. Be upset, be angry that this is the result, that you were left with a choice between two non-candidates.

I didn't expect this win so I am still getting used to it. This is the first election in the three Presidential I've paid attention that didn't go how I expected ahead of time, so this is the first time I get to square with the very new feeling of expecting one direction and then being shifted all at once entirely in the other.

It is very interesting. Can't say I know what to expect.

Personally I think what we just saw is what happens when the Dems make assumptions about working class demographics they've done a poor job attending to over the years. We got our Brexit. The map might just have changed. Time for a seventh party system?

I admit I have a hard time imagining a situation where Russia walks into, say, Poland and everyone here just shrugs. I dunno, if he actually goes the appeasement route... we'll have to see I guess.
