We've all had a class that we've wanted to play but haven't been able to because either someone else in the group already was that class or the DM you were with said no, or even not wanting to play it because you knew it wouldn't be long term. Let's hear it, what would you play if you were gonna start a game tomorrow and could play whatever you want? ringtonesfree.info

For a long term game I would really love to play a Wizard/Loremaster, preferably Dwarven or Gnomish.

For a short term game I would really like to play a halfling rogue, because I would like to mess around with a thrower character before I play it long term.

Every time a multiverse deal rolls around I want to play as Manny Calavera, but I have neither the wit nor the charm to pull that off.

Honestly, what I want to play changes moment to moment. I've learned that the novelty of being character X only lasts so long, and that by pouring your love into them they become cool, worthwhile people to read about.

I'm willing to bet that the OP is a bot.

It's a good topic for discussion though

This archetype is not a new concept, not by a long shot really, but it is one that I had seen lacking at tables for years. Now, I say this in particular because of the approach that seems to be initially given here with overtly aiming at a tabletop game, but I mean in general. If I have to write or roll a character, this is going to be my approach.

I prefer the more savage things in life, where nature is both equally a beautiful and terrifying thing to behold; I get along better with big cats than I do with people, for example. I explicitly write my characters off that method of thought to varying degrees no matter what, some more human than others, but one archetype for the life of me I cannot get a group at an actual table to go with is the "knight of the wild". It is not a complicated effort either - we are not talking wizard or cleric levels of spellcasting prowess, we are talking about a druid-paladin type that is not outright horrible at doing its job. There's the issue of roleplaying and rollplaying, with the latter being the one that up until recently was a losing battle for me; the game mechanics just did not mesh and the authors hadn't put much stock in the concept, ever.

I wrote a class to deal with it, play tested it many times over, had some people with real system mastery and optimization look it over, let some of the roleplay-only types iron out what they thought did or didn't make sense, employed it a few more times in tests and... still cannot find anyone to use it. For lack of better description, it was the Oath of the Ancients paladin before that was even a thing, but who am I to complain? Ideologically and thematically they are virtually identical, despite edition differences, and that's what I want to portray as a character above much else.

Changing topics very slightly roleplaying, especially written, is the easy aspect from my experience or at least easier than convincing Dungeon Masters I do not know that I am not some munchkin and that my work is well researched. I can just write how and why characters can do what they do, I can get into that persona and identity, I can portray it better than the dice and or rules want to participate with it. No issues there merging and melding those into being elaborate or what I think are interesting. For how similar my characters might be, some vein stained red, I believe them all very different.

I'd like to play a bog standard, sword and shield, backpack and cloak-wearing adventurer adventuring through the wilderness. Scaling obstacles, using rope, sticking my sword in the throat of giant lizards.

But it'll never happen. My role playing group has convinced themselves that they're tired of the classic tropes of fantasy adventures, despite the fact that I know none of them have ever played in a game where those tropes were meaningfully present.

Currently I'm trying to get a gundam rp going. In said rp there will be two NPCs that I REALLY want to use. Sho Kuraski being the first he's a resistance general who fights for his comrades to the bloody death. He's devoted to following the ways of Bushido and by all accounts he's a mega badass. Dude one cut a bullet in half with his katana. There are a lot of possibly variations of his character I could use. The other being a leader of a group of vigilantes. Without spoilering my own roleplay let's just say his personal history is pretty messy. His family isn't exactly normal, and he himself is almost dismissed entirely when not wearing the mask he wears to hide himself. His singular goal is to undermine the government and in doing so reform the world. Unlike say Lelouch however he's convinced himself that he's doing it for everyone and not just himself and he goes about it with damnable tenacity.

I have a lot of characters, maybe close to like about 200ish or something, with some generous rounding off. But the one character I always really want to play, and rarely get to, is the assassin. Like a /true/ assassin, aligned with evil or neutral/evil, master of the shadows and the dagger, nameless, faceless, cold, ominous, fear-inducing blackmailer.
Of course that almost never works well in a roleplay simply because roleplays rely so much on character development and requires social participation, the two things that seriously conflict with that kind of character to the point where it's nearly impossible to pull it off XD
