Yeah, don't forget about Metro as well. This roleplay mostly reminds me of that game.
Air filters definitely have time limits here. My character has some pretty state-of-the-art equipment (for the mid-nineties) and he'll bitch at least once about how his filters cost 22 pounds a pop even before the smuggling fees.
The IC introductory stuff will seem pretty generic at first whenever the thread is put up. Don't be put off by that, as it is intentional. That's me waiting for the character sheets to come in and be approved, so I can adjust and alter the plot hooks according to the characters. For example, if most people are interested in playing assassins or bounty hunters, then I would probably be wise to put any copper-scrounging stuff on hold.
Mostly I'm preparing for the people who will need a bit of time to meet each other, as by no means will we all be forced to start in the same village area where I will be placing my character. After a point I hope the player interactions will run themselves.
You know what, I am just going to post him. I only thing that I need to fill is the weapons and I am currently looking into that. I just got done with the weapons, meaning that I am done! So here you go, mate!

HegedΓΌs, or Joseph, has dealt with a lot of shit within The Zone that would have driven a normal man insane. Then again, no-one is truly living an innocent life anymore. He believes that the reality is better than any sort of lie or fantasy. Those settlements are likely ambushed by mutants or other humans, which is worst than being attacked by mutants. Unlike other traders and merchants, he is not looking for fame or riches. He just wants to help out others where the world has turned their backs on Europe. He has thoughts of leaving the hellhole and going to America, but he wants to help his fellow-men out. If and only when the world cares for the survivors, then he will consider retirement and move away.
But, that is nothing more than a fantasy. A false sense of hope, at most.
HegedΓΌs JΓ³zsef has spent his life all over Europe, trying to live within the odious landmass. Many people are sure that he was born long before Europe became a toxic wasteland filled with thugs and criminals. "Too much" is all he said when someone asked him about his personal life. Besides that 'small' issue, he often goes to populated settlements and tries his best to offer aid and give out any suppliesβfor a small fee. He only asks money because it is the most essential thing that will get you food and ammo. And he also often helps out with the Red Cross and other humanitarian organizations that are brave enough to aid Europe.
While he is out there, looking for supplies and useful stuff, he often has hired help with him. HegedΓΌs absolutely hates being alone because it could get you killed out there. For extra cash, he often gets help in settlements that he stops at. And no-one knows how long that he has done it as well. His English also has improved enough that entrepreneurs and tourists could understand him. Oh, he also dislikes those 'entrepreneurs' and 'tourists' that are there for 'fun'. He avoids those people no matter the situation.
Just FYI, the three nickname categories I gave in the CS template were more suggestions than a necessary rule. He can be called whatever you want, with as many or few names as you want. Even none if that's your wish.
And yes, this is one setting where people can insist upon nicknames for themselves, since half the stalker population were criminals before they entered the Zone, and the other half became criminals when they entered it. Anonymity will be important to many people. So any variety of thieves'-cant that you can think of is totally encouraged here.
Also use whatever color you want, if #CC5252 is ugly in your opinion.
I'll give this a proper review tomorrow but just off a perfunctory glimpse, these are two things you can alter, just in case you thought I would be pedantic over the formatting here. :)
@The Spectre All right, so here's what I've got right now.
The Good
It hadn't occurred to me that there might be people trying to escape the Zone, but needing "professional" help to do it; since, after all, they will be treated by the cordons as contaminated, and criminal. This is very clever! He's like a reverse-smuggler and I like that aspect a lot.
You've raised a lot of questions in a good way. I assume you're prepared to explain where he is gathering the supplies he gives out to the needy, especially in a manner which does not clash with his personality. (Since I assume he's not willing to steal to acquire these goods.) Saving that for the IC instead of laying it all out here is smart.
Good choice in guns! It will not make sense for a significant percentage of weapons (or characters, for that matter) to be from the Americas, since shipping weapons across an ocean is difficult enough, not to mention the Zone's borders.
Cool photos! One of my roleplaying pet peeves is when the entire cast of "ordinary" people is twenty supermodels and actresses from various The CW programs. He looks like a normal bloke and his "armor" makes sense; it even has an interesting ethnic flair about it!
Improvements Needed
I didn't specify this so it's not your fault, but it hasn't been thirty years since the war ended. I'm thinking between 5 and 15 years. Being born in the Zone is impossible (at least at age 34).
If English is not your first language then don't worry about this, but there are some minute grammatical errors sprinkled throughout the profile.
Going back to the nickname stuff, English will be the common language spoken by Europeans, in addition to their native tongues. So if they name you after a Hungarian drink, expect it to be mispronounced, shortened, and otherwise totally butchered. My character is Scottish and his booze-related nickname, "Buckie" (Buckfast), is much easier to remember.
And everything I didn't mention is fine, so your profile definitely has more good than bad. There are very minor things to fix.
@pugbutter, I have fix the grammar and the age (I hope). And I am fine with people mispronouncing the nickname unless you want me to remove it. Hope that it's good enough.
I'll give you an example: if you introduce yourself to newcomers as "Mienk KereskedΕ," they will look at you like you're crazy and either shorten it down to "Mink," or come up with something totally new.
And that's fine if your character really tries to introduce himself that way (hey, it's up to him), but it won't be terribly practical. ;)
You will be accepted when the thread is up, so don't worry about asking for permission. You can post straight into the Characters tab.
@pugbutterQuestion about a character idea: Can I play an Australian survivalist who found the Outback too easy to live in, so he moved to Europe to try his luck in one of the Zones?
A good kid who never really had to try too hard to succeed. He believes in just trying your best and that given enough time everything will work itself out.
Somehow his family not only survived, but profited off the war. Whatever his father does for a living, he must be good at it. Miles works for the government as a reclamations specialist. For most people his age that means diving straight into radiated hellholes for the sole purpose of telling others to not go into radiated hellholes. His βprofessional networkβ allow him to mostly just sit behind a desk. Miles had been around zones his whole life. Every year father dearest would take him there on a family vacation. Not for pleasure, everyone was miserable, but for them. For the survivors.
Miles was there for a chance to do what he spent years training for. It was ironic, the only way into a zone was through the very man who was working the hardest to keep him out of them.
@Mercenary5 The app itself isn't great but I approve of the character we discussed off-site. So you'll have slightly under a week to clean up the writing and represent this character a bit better. With some polish this app will be approved.
@pugbutterLetting you know that I couldn't find a suitable realistic drawing of what his usual gear looks like, so I made it using the heromachine web browser application. If that's unacceptable, I'll try to find something similar to what I want. (I put it in a hider partially because of this message, partially because the images are big. I can take it out of a hider when the OOC is up if you want)
Oscar Vaughan
ππ₯π’ππ¬(ππ¬):
Oscar, Ozzy, Oz
He's taken up the name Roach after an old friend complimented his ability to survive in the harshest environments, saying "You're like a goddamned roach, ya know that?"
Some people have mistaken his accent for that of a British isles native, and thusly call him 'Guinness'(He hates it), others realize he's an Aussie and just call him that, or some variation(Aus, That fucking Aussie madman, etc.)
ππ π:
He's in his mid-30s, though he's spent so long in the wilds of the world, he's lost track of his age from not celebrating birthdays
πππ±:
Male
πππ«π¬π¨π§ππ₯π’ππ²:
Some would call him brave, others foolish, but everyone can agree on one thing: He's a madman. He's constantly putting himself in harms way for the thrill, living in the most inhospitable environments imaginable. He's also surprisingly upbeat given the environments, and people tend to take that as some form of mental illness. He tries to get along with others, but they find his constant manic outlook to be unnerving, and tend to distance themselves from him. He doesn't like hurting other humans, but he won't hesitate to kill someone if it means saving his own hide. He spends most of his time just walking the Zone, gathering supplies for the day, and trying to brighten the day of whoever he meets. Overall, he's just a crazy outlier in the world of the Zones, though he does have a grimmer side that shows itself when he drinks, or has time to think for long periods.
Born and raised in rural Australia, Oscar was always at home in the wild. Growing up, he spent most of his free time outside, trying to see how far out he could get into the wild before it was time to go back home. He took great fascination in the wildlife and foliage as well, watching the animals, running from the more dangerous ones, and eventually learning how to scare them off. When he became an adult, he spent a brief time in the Australian army, becoming familiar with weapons and survival training, and seeking a 'grand adventure'. The army did not provide this, with most activities being training exercises. So he decided to seek out real thrills with the one thing he new best, the wilderness. This put him on the path of becoming a solo survivalist, living out in the wilds of the world, trying to live for the the fun of it. Starting out by making a living in the Outback desert of his homeland, living off the land. After that he tried different environments, the Amazon jungle, the Sahara desert, the lower Arctic, and now one of the Zones.
Weapon 1; "Old Bess", .357 lever-action carbine, given its name by a friend of Oscar's, who gave it to him, for its reliability. Click Here!
Weapon 2; "Chance", .357 single-action revolver. Given its nickname for the fact that Oscar only ever loads it with five of the six rounds in a full chamber before spinning the chamber, leaving it up to chance if he can shoot first or not. Click Here!
Weapon 3; "Blackout", a Ka-Bar-style knife given its name after a particular night Oscar was out drinking, where he woke up shirtless, five miles from town, with the knife laying next to him. Click Here!
@DepressedSoviet Accepted! And I have two interesting facts about your profile, if you want to hear them.
The first is how the images work. I designed the app such that if you click an armored image, the page will redirect you to the portrait of his unarmored countenance. This is so other players can see what lies underneath the masks and clothing only if they really want to, with no unnecessary spoilage.
The second thing is that depending on the single-action revolver, it actually is common practice to load only five of the six cylinders, because until someone actually designed a solution for this problem, the hammer rested against the firing pin, which rested against the cartridge primer. As you can see here, this is why the S.A.S.S. (Single-Action Shooting Society) loads only five bullets at a time; even if their guns are more modern versions sporting protection bars, a tradition arose from the older single-actions which had this "bug." So it would have been dangerous for people to be riding around with fully loaded guns which could shoot them in the leg if something smacked into their holsters. Just a fun fact.
Is is not too late to join? I have just the character I want to use for this, if possible.
Absolutely not! Welcome!
Correct me if I'm misinterpreting your post, but be warned that I prefer original characters over recycled ones. I'd rather not know that you've used your character previously in another RP, if that's quite all right.
Excellent! Funny you mention it, I actually was going to recycle an old, old character, but then I had a flash of inspiration for a new one that I'm much more interested in. So... we're all good then!
Chloe Fitzgerald

Fitzgerald, Chloe.
The Doctor, Doc
That Paddy Bitch

πππ±:
Female
πππ«π¬π¨π§ππ₯π’ππ²:
Chloe is a girl of excellent manners and loose morals. Sheβs unfailingly polite to almost everyone she meets, be they patients, passersby or someone sheβs in the midst of disemboweling. In the midst of all the death and madness the zone has to offer, she does her best to remain a professional β sheβs never friendly, but soft-spoken, authoritative, and sometimes stern. Ethically, she lives on a the βI did what I had toβ system β sheβs not fond of violence, but if a bandit needs to be brutally murdered and left on the road as a warning to others, wellβ¦
Chloe was born in Dublin, Ireland, to a family of criminals and gangsters β violence was a childhood companion, and her cadre of older brothers made sure she learned how to defend herself practically before she learned how to read. For a long time she hoped to use her brains to escape from the violent life she was born into, graduating from medical school and finally being employed at a city hospital β unfortunately, financial woes soon drew her back into a life of crime, and she became one of the most well-known mob doctors in Ireland. The problem, of course, with being a well-known mob doctor is that sooner or later, the wrong person is going to find out about you. A successful sting operation brought her familyβs criminal empire low, and before long someone squealed on her. Chloe was exposed, disgraced and on the run, and her few remaining connections only barely managed to smuggle her somewhere she could still earn a living. Everyone needs a doctor, and those in the Zone are no exception. For the past three years Chloe has traveled through the zone, offering her services to anyone willing to pay her β every camp or trading outpost or bandit fortress she comes to has some idiot in need of stitching up, and medical professionals are (unsurprisingly) rare in those kinds of hellholes. Most people who know of βThe Doctorβ are glad to see her β even a few of the bandit groups know sheβs more good to them alive than dead. Thus far sheβs managed to survive through a combination of luck, brutality and the protection of a few powerful groups, but heaven knows thoseβll only get you so far in a place filled with maniacs.
