Humanity has long since spread to the stars after the discovery of the Relative Interdimensional Field Transit Faster-Than-Light drive in the mid 23rd century, a device that worked by cutting a hole into reality itself, then proceeding to burrow into an alternate dimension of space known as RIFTVOID where the speed of light is several times faster than in realspace. With this, humanity quickly went interstellar, colonising planet after planet, star system after star system. Of course, someone needed to govern all that. And thus, the United Earth Government was formed, born from the crumbling ruins of the old United Nations. For the first few decades or so there was peace.
However, in the late 23rd century, a group of colonists on the edge of human space rebelled, not wanting to be controlled by a single planetary body. At first, they were peaceful, but quickly turned to violence when they were ignored by the UEG. These rebels resorted to terror tactics such as bombing local cities and attacking civilian ships. The UEG, not taking kindly to these terrorists, formed their military wing, the United Earth Government Naval Command. This new military crushed the untrained rebels, and relative peace was restored. Relative peace, because rebels would continue to stage guerrilla attacks on colonies year after year, although they thankfully weren't that much of a threat anymore.
It is now the year 2839. While the colonies located the closest to Earth may seem like distant utopias and beacons of human achievements, the Outer Colonies were not so much. These planets, due to the UEG having little influence on them, were almost lawless, a place where corporations would participate in black market deals, and where insurgents were most active.
This was precisely the reason why Seventh Column, a shadowy assassination agency, hired a team of four of the best mercenaries and assassins in the colonies to deal with this scum of the earth. Seventh Column was feared for its extreme efficiency in taking out targets, and rightfully so. They hired only the most lethal and remorseless killers out there. No one really knew about Seventh Column, only that they existed somewhere out there. But they do have a way of inspiring rookie mercenaries to work for a position.
A very large paycheck.

Welcome to Heavy Mettle! This is a small group RP set in the mid 29th century where players take control of a deadly mercenary hired by a highly secretive interstellar contract agency known as Seventh Column This RP will mostly revolve around our small four-man team as they go around fulfilling contracts on important figures.
So what kind of technology exists in the 29th century?
Think of your average Sci-Fi technology such as spaceships and stuff. The UEG is advanced, but not to the point of instant teleportation and telekinesis, although robots and A.I.s who act exactly like humans exist.
All firearms use powered coil-propulsion systems to launch projectiles at hypersonic speeds, and have built-in aim-assist. Active cloaking has been invented, and so has energy weapons. While things such as lasers exist, they are just to impractical and hard to maintain to use.
But anyway, I want to seen how well you kill.
