Darn. I'm not sure how well I can play a non-OC faithfully, especially Advanced post quality, which I've never once reached on this site before.

Advanced Roleplay.
Advanced RP focuses on longer posts, often with in-depth plots, character development and extensive settings/lore. Must make a dedicated effort to minimize typographical errors and to use good grammar. Generally two paragraphs, but usually longer. See individual GM for RP specific standards.

I wouldn't worry too much about meeting some arbitrary standard regarding what constitutes an "advanced post". I can't speak for the GM or anything like that, but here's what the designers of the site outlined as far as what meets an Advanced roleplay. Pick a character you're comfortable with and expand from there. Imo, having an established direction and people to write with is far more important.

People don't respect the Advanced section, anyways. The majority of the time you'll see posts with very little effort put into correcting typos, grammar errors, or using proper syntax and diction. And you'll often come across players who make posts that contribute little-to-nothing to the plot, character development, or setting. It's sad, but that's how RPG is nowadays. :/

My personal definition of Advanced has always been:

“Advanced roleplaying should focus on developing interesting and complex characters that become part of plot-lines which catch the imagination and inspire the writer behind them to exercise creativity. It is mature, humorous, imaginative, tragic, terrifying, passionate, and rife with descriptive language and characters with real personality and relatable cares. Quality posting is far better than needless novels, yet one should never neglect detail when one feels the need. However, while word and paragraph requirements ought to be unnecessary, single paragraphs cannot contain enough detail to suffice.”

So if you meet that, yeah.

I can do two decent paragraphs minimum consistently, sure! A lot of casual section dwellers like me just see posts of like 1000+ words and just go "nnnnope! I'm not and never will be that good!"

EDIT: Perfect knowledge of spelling and grammar but I get betrayed by clumsy fingers a lot >.>

If you can do four to five well-written paragraphs that contribute and/or advance either your character plot or the setting of the RP, then you've nothing to be concerned about. Internal thoughts and character reflections are excellent ways to do so.

Just go through your post once you've completely written it once or twice, reading it out loud as you do, to ensure there are minimal errors and it reads well. If you do that, then no clumsy fingers can fell you.

My problem is that I'm ridiculously lean with words. I say in three paragraphs hat someone else can say in five and then you compare the two and I haven't missed out anything that they included. It's annoying when your posts are frequently shorter than other people's (And this is on the Casual section), but it also means that when I do manage a five paragraph post, it does about seven paragraphs worth of character and plot development.

There also are quick free online programs to proofread posts as well if you are concerned about it.

That's not a problem at all, quality above quantity, to a degree, though both are welcomed. If you can do in three paragraphs what they're doing in five, and considering it was the casual section, I'd say that more so reflects the other writers are fluffing their posts with irrelevant material. I haven't seen your writing, so I can't say for sure, but that's generally the case.

As I said above, though, character exposition in the form of inner monologues, etc are great ways to add more to a post both in quantity and quality. This is a good habit to get into as a writer.

I feel a bit better about starting work on a CS here now, though i'm going to start tomorrow as it's late here. I've decided I'm going to use Black Cat.

As the Spidey player, PM me your ideas so we can see if things will work out for that.

Sorry, I've decided to drop out. I just don't think I'm ready for advanced yet. All this talk of plot planning, and writing backstories larger than three paragrahs without copying wikipedia....

I know I usually/always say my posts are shitty, but... this one's pretty shitty. Even you all can agree to that, I think.
Hopefully they start improving in quality as I continue on.

Sorry about the absence. The Christmas holiday, college football, Pokemon, and my surgery has kept me busy. I'll get a post up "soon"TM.

I'll be MIA for the next couple of days with my grandmothers funeral. 2016 stole another hero.
Glad you're back Ded, have you had the surgery or is it soon? Either way hope it went/goes well and you recover quickly
