Certainly the world knows nothing more dangerous than the trade of an adventurer and especially a monster hunter. These hired blades risk their lives daily for personal gain, or perhaps more altruistic reasons entirely, but in the end the risk always remains: What if something goes wrong? That is what this group of hunters got a grim reminder of first hand... Their mark, the elusive creature of the night known to men as the "Wolfwing", turned the tables on them and imprisoned them in a show of man-like cunning. Will they ever see their friends and family again?
Hello, it's still me! To those new here, this game tells a story of a group of hunters who chose to chase a bounty on a powerful creature, only to find themselves hunted by their presumed prey. Now that they've been captured, what remains is to skedaddle the hell out of the creature's lair... hopefully in one piece by the end. This will not be a long-term RP, instead ending as soon as the (still alive) characters have either successfully escaped or everyone has been mauled to death.
As those joining me from the interest check (hopefully) remember, the general idea will be a little something like this: The group (you, the players) were on the hunt for a creature that has been terrorising local cattle and farmers alike, leaving only a bloody mess behind. Eyewitnesses reported seeing "a giant wolf-like creature with wings", and thus came the name "Wolfwing". A high bounty was placed on the creature's head, but few dared attempt tracking, let alone slaying it: 'Ordinary' werewolves were a challenge enough and one that had wings? No deal. You did not turn this down however, as you trusted in your skills. In the end, said trust was misplaced, and you awaken in an abandoned stone-walled cell with well kept iron bars blocking your way out. The creature was much more intelligent than anticipated.
Now then, as per usual a player needs a character. Background material will be expanded upon in the coming days, but I guess letting people get to work earlier does not hurt. Thus, I present to you, the Character Sheet!
Name: Age: Gender: Personality (keep it short and simple): Appearance (upon starting the hunt): Favoured weapon (Examples include Sword & Shield, Dual Swords, Lance, Hammer, Maul, Greatsword, Bow, Bowgun, etc.): Notable skills (What do you excel at, if anything in particular?): Notable weaknesses: Background:
And here's some information about the background. Do remember it will be expanded upon!
While freelance hunting certainly is a thing (and a popular option at that), some people prefer the ease of gathering company, the sharing of tips and other general benefits that come with the membership. These are but a few examples, you can also create your own! Just tell me what you have in mind and I might add it into the world.
A quite secluded group of people that follow some mysterious "Brother Moth-caller". The order offers quite possibly the best training for dealing with creatures of the night and known for their famous utility belt that holds anything you might need for putting ghosts, vampires, ghouls, zombies and other undead to rest.
A guild that specialises in hunting monsters for bounties. The guild is the largest organisation of the realm, spanning through the entire known world. Each of the guild halls is led by a democratically elected Guildmaster, one of whom is chosen as the Grandmaster. The guild has very extensive resources and has been given the responsibility to pay up the bounty of monster kills so that the crown does not have to bother setting up stations across the country when guild halls already exist.
Do you happen to be familiar with the Monster Hunter franchise? If so, great! You now know. If not, let me try my best. Most of the fighting still takes place with melee weapons and bows, although gunpowder has been invented and thus given birth to peculiar weapons such as the "Gunlance" and the "Bowgun". The former is quite literally a gun built into a lance that uses the hot air blast instead of bullets as an additional way to deal damage and Bowguns are something one might get if they cross-bred a musket and a crossbow. They eat many different kinds of ammunition, but are only accurate to certain lengths.
Magic is a thing. It is not a very popular thing though... it's rare and scary, thus widely seen as witchcraft that gets hunters after you and you onto a pile of burning logs. Not very pleasant, so anyone with said powers should keep them hidden to the best of their ability. If your character knows magic, do mention it in the Notable skills and specify what type of things they can do with it.
On a closing note, the group size I am aiming is between three and five, so there's still space left! If this interests you, don't hesitate to pop in!
@Bishop You are indeed welcome to join! If everyone from the Interest Check follows me here that would make us a group of four.
Weapons and armour are mostly gone, yes. Magic is widely regarded as Witchcraft (got to add that into the background info added), so I personally would advise against using it publicly. It can still be be a Notable skill to have! Nothing like slinging fireballs though, for obvious reasons.
@Dusksong Yeah, humans preferably, but a case can be made for elves since they are quite similar. Now if we assume all that have expressed interest end up joining we are full. I'll update the topic header momentarily, I can always just swap it back to apply if someone has to cancel.
Name: Mistletoe Age: 32 Gender: Female Personality: Generally caring and kind to friends but ruthless to enemies. Can sometimes get irritated easily. Appearance: Slim and petite with an oval face, Mistletoe gives a tender aura whenever she smiles. Probably of Asian descent. Favoured weapon: Bow; daggers for close quarters Notable skills: Master level archery; good stealth Notable weaknesses: Weak hand to hand combat; not very observant at times Background: Not much is known about Mistletoe, not even her real name behind that obvious pseudonym. Her mastery of the bow suggests a rigorous hunter's training, yet her clumsiness with melee weapons points to something different. Mistletoe lives a lone wanderer's life and largely depends on monster contracts. She usually hunts dangerous solitary animals by stalking them, followed by a single arrow to the weakest spot. Her first group hunting in several years led to her current predicament.
Name: Derrick Greenguard Age: 17 Gender: Male Personality: The best statement to describe Derrick would probably be "lacking in direction". Derrick tends to be rather quiet and likes to think for himself rather than talk to others, although he's not exactly antisocial. He's more of a follower than a leader and is decisively indecisive when not with others. He likes to be left alone more often than not, although he wouldn't deny companionship. Appearance: Short brown hair, dull brown eyes and square features.
Favoured weapon: Spears/polearms Notable skills: Moderately skilled with spears. Good strength and stamina. Bad at panicking and is fairly observant. Good at defending. Does his job till it's finished. Notable weaknesses: A bit too careful sometimes, doesn't often take initiative. Not good attacking targets outside his range. Fairly inexperienced. Background: Derrick comes from a rural background of hard farming and was a rather unimaginative child, dreaming of a peaceful adulthood of having a farm of his own and providing for his family. But of course, to own property, you needed money. Derrick and a few of his friends hit upon the idea of taking down local pests together before handing them in for bounties. Derrick was pretty sure that a more stable job would've been a better foundation for a long future but he went with it because monsters would also damage his farming dreams in the long run. They formed a freelance party naught but slightly more than sensibly proportioned dreams. Fast track a few months and the party goes the way of a group of naive teenage rock band aspirees, they split up to try and find success in their own ways. Left with nothing much to do, Derrick gives monster hunting one last shot and accepts a bounty for a mysterious winged wolf, little knowing that it may turn out to be the worst decision of his life... Or the best one he's ever made. Depends on how it goes, I suppose.
Made with the assumption that more than just monster hunter weapons are up for grabs. How's it look?
@Lord of Evil I don't see anything wrong, other than the fact he seems to be assuming there are multiple Wolfwings out there. The creature is, as far as anyone knows, one of a kind. If that is either corrected or left as a misconception for the IC level, you can move them to the Characters tab as well.
Also, your favoured weapons are OK as they are both for "reach" fighting and your character is too young to have really spesialised in anything.
