She let her hands fall from his face and studied his expression. She felt a little bad for embarrassing him, but she had to admit he was a bit adorable when he blushed. Jun removed herself from his lap and sat in front of him with her legs tucked underneath her.

"You can relax," she whispered, "I'm sure you get attention like this outside of school."

She placed her hand gently on his chest and a smile crept onto her face as she felt his heart beat. It excited her to know she was making him nervous. She never thought of herself as someone that would scare a boy like Kenton. Jun wanted nothing more than to sit like that and share each other's secrets. She was ready to say more when she felt her phone buzzing in her pocket. A string of messages from her father no doubt.

Jun, I need money.
Jun! Go put money in the account.
I KNOW YOURE NOT WORKING I CALLED YOUR BOSS! WHERE ARE YOU?!
I can get into your personal account if I have to. Don't test me.

"I'm sorry...my...my dads out of town." she managed to say to Kenton as she stood up trying to calm herself, "He's a bit protective and called my job. He just wants to know I'm okay."

She quickly transferred the rest of their rent money into his account and sent him a text letting him know. Her heart sank a little as her eyes drifted back to her friend. She couldn't trust Kenton just like she couldn't trust her dad.

"We can get back to the movies if you want or continue talking," she said trying to ease the tension she might have caused. She sat herself down leaving a bit of space between the two of them. The fairytale in her head shattered for the moment.

Her statement of him getting attention like this outside of school made him shake his head and before he could even stop himself from speaking, Kenton responded “No, you’re the first person to give my eyes as much attention as you do. Instead of looking away, you stare it’s… it’s different, a good different.” The embarrassment filled him as he shared the information with her. She seemed to be one of the few how found interest in his eyes and in doing so she must have assumed there were others when… there weren’t.

The sudden interruption of her phone stopped him from reaching up and taking ahold of her hand that was on his chest. However her sudden change in personality left him a bit confused. His head tilted to one side, watching her closely through his blonde bangs. Was she okay? She seemed suddenly stressed and he didn’t like that. Why was her father causing her so much stress? Someone who just wanted her to be ‘okay’ wouldn’t cause her as much stress.

When she returned, she left space between them and Kenton felt empty compared to what they just shared. A smile moved across his face, a gentle soft closed lip smile and he reached forward, placing a large hand gently on her small one. “I am actually scared of the dark.” He said softly. “When I was very little I was playing hide and go seek with my brothers and I hid in the basement of our old house. For some reason it freaked me out badly and while I got over my fear of basements I never really got over being alone in the dark. I sleep with a tv show going in the background for the lamination of light and I slept on the floor of Atsuma’s room from the time I was six when the hide and go seek went bad until I was 10. Being alone in the dark is one of the most terrifying things I can possibly think of.” Maybe… maybe hearing one of his secrets might help their bonding.

Jun tensed a bit under his hand until she heard his story. As each word left his mouth her body relaxed and she couldn't help the small tear that escaped and rolled down her cheek. She looked over at him biting her lip a little harder than necessary until her teeth broke skin. She found herself sitting closer to him without realizing.

"Kenton...." she said with a little bit of a sigh as she squeezed his hand, "I...I'm scared of loud noises," she started with a shaky voice, "My parents always fought when I was little....things would get broken and I was always hiding in the closet trying to cover my ears from the screaming. When my mom left things got quiet around the house but every now and then I do something wrong and dad yells at me...or it storms and I find myself back in the closet like a scared little girl."

She hadn't noticed the whole time she was crying. She'd never shared anything about her home life with anybody until today and she knew right away he would probably see her as more trouble than she was worth. She pulled her legs to her chest avoiding eye contact. The last thing she wanted was to see annoyance in his face. She was scared she said too much.

He made her cry, he made her cry. Oh boy… he was an asshole. His face dropped when she said his name, he was sure she was going to say she was leaving. Or that he had made her uncomfortable and that she didn’t want to be around him anymore. That single tear pained him more than the dark for some reason and watching her be so sad made him slowly begin to pull away his hand.

Then she squeezed back and it took him a moment to realize she wasn’t crying because of him, she was crying with him. She shared her story, much to his surprise and soon she was crying on his couch as she shared something so personal, so deep, with him. Though as she pulled her legs to her chest and avoided eye contact he reached out and gently placed a large hand against her cheek. His thumb moved softly against her red cheeks wiping away the tears. Something deep down inside of him disliked the fact that she was crying, he disliked it a lot.

After a moment of rubbing her cheek he used both of his arms and pulled her completely onto his lap leaving her in her curled ball. Supporting her with one arm, he reached down and grabbed the blanket, throwing it across them and creating a small burrito of warmth around them. He then wrapped his lean muscular arms around her body and rested his head against hers, closing his eyes.

“You’re not alone anymore.” He said softly giving her a gentle squeeze. “When… when you want to go back into that closet, you call me. Or text me. Or send a pigeon. And I will be there.” His large hand gently rubbed her back in their little burrito cocoon. “I will be there whenever you need me. I promise.”

Jun let him hold her partly because she was too shocked he didn't throw her out. She found comfort in his touch and allowed her head to rest against his shoulder while he spoke. She'd never felt at home before, but sitting there with him made her think she finally had.

"You're my favorite cliche," she said as her arms wrapped around his torso and she gave his body a squeeze, "I didn't mean to ruin the vibe and I'm sorry for crying. You can let me know when I share too much or become a handful. I promise I won't get mad at you. I don't think I could ever feel anything but comfort or relaxed with you."

She kissed him quickly on the cheek and then reached for the remote. She wanted to go back to their fun time before her dad ruined it...before she ruined it. She quickly put on The ABCs of Death and rested against him. She knew right away her attention would be fixed on his breathing and her eyes would focus on his the whole movie.

“A cliché?” Kenton repeated with a chuckle. “If I can be a cliché but a comfort for you than I am okay with that.” A soft smile rose on his fine lips showing his straight white teeth. You won’t be too much of a handful but I want you to do the same for me. And… and if the situation at school becomes to unbearable, I can understand if you don’t want to be friends anymore. But… I’ll still be here for you and I’ll be here for if you ever want to cry. There’s nothing wrong with crying and I will gladly be your shoulder.”

When she leaned against him, he let out a small sigh. His breaking finally slowed down but his heart was pounding in his chest. Especially since she kissed him on the cheek; she was a lot of firsts for him. And she was the first to actually kiss him on the cheek that wasn’t an old family member. Keeping them in their burrito, he leaned back while holding her and attempted to focus on the movie.

That was until he realized that she was staring at him again. His golden/teal gaze turned to look down at her. “Yes?” He asked softly.

Jun blushed a bit when he finally caught her gaze. She turned away quickly unsure what letter the movie was on. "I was just admiring you," she said after a moment, "you're a beautiful person and when I was little my mom always told me to cherish the beautiful things you find in life."

She looked up at him and gave a small shrug, "I don't think there's anyone out there like you K, and I think you're going to be my best friend. I'm already telling you my darkest secrets and I'm not scared of you. I'm wondering if this is all a dream because nobody has ever treated me the way you do and it's terrifying and wonderful at the same time." She paused to catch her breath and then paused the movie so she could continue.

"From the first time we spoke I went home and I thought about the next time we'd see each other and I wish I spoke up louder when kids picked on you. I had this idea in my head that you preferred to be alone, but now I think fate just wanted to save you for me," Jun said with a grin.

Admiring me? He thought, his eyebrows at her wording and he couldn’t help but found it surprising that she would be admiring someone like him and when she blushed, so did he. Her words were so kind, so thoughtful and so unexpected. He really had a friend, a friend. Kenton Kyo, the oddball, the ‘demon’, the ‘bad luck’, the guy who needs his brothers to protect him from the harshness of the school yard. Yet, he now had a friend. Someone who he could tell his secrets to and someone who would trust him enough with theirs.

“I don’t prefer to be alone, and if I did I wouldn’t want to anymore. But if you’re convinced you’re dreaming…” A playful smirk moved across his face as he raised his hands, within a moment he was tickling her sides. “You still dreaming? Are you ticklish in your dreams? Or is this reality and you’re getting tickled!?”

Jun began laughing when he tickled her and the grabbed his hands in hers. She held them tightly and closed her eyes. A smile found its way to her lips and she let out a small sigh. Kenton had a way with words and if she wasn't careful she'd let her guard down a lot more than she already had. After a few moments she opened her eyes again and stuck her tongue out at the kid.

"I bet you're ticklish too, but I like holding your hands so I'm not going to try just yet," she said laying her head back on his shoulder.

She started to wonder if this is what safe felt like. She'd only known how to be scared so to be with someone that was the opposite of her whole life was intriguing to her. She hoped she didn't ruin it.

She looked at peace as she held his hands and closed her eyes. Finally smiling a claim happy smile, which brought a smile to his face. She looked rather relaxed as she sat comfortable in his lap and her comment made him give an innocent shrug to her statement about him being ticklish.

Her head moved to his shoulder and he froze for a moment unsure of what to do. His hands slowly wrapped in hers, lacing his fingers in with hers. Atsuma was never really a ‘secretive’ man of his love affairs so he did spend a lot of time bragging and talking about his love life to his brothers. While Rayne was more of a gentleman about his womanly encounters, Rayne was not afraid to show affection at school where he would hold hands and openly flirt with whoever was on his arm that week. Was this…

“Is… is this what friends do?” He asked shyly. He didn’t know, was this normal for friends?

Jun shrugged a bit. She only ever had friends in classes not ones she hung out with outside of school or even at lunch really. She wasn't sure where her need to be this close to Kenton came from, but she was positive friends were this affection.

"Friends comfort each other. Make them feel protected. They share their deepest secrets and I assume they provide affection too," she said quietly before her stomach started to growl. She blushed a bit and let out a laugh. "Are you hungry for real food? We can order take out...I have a few bucks on my that my dad hasn't gotten his hands on yet. Nothing beats takeout, movies, and friends. Maybe later we can play a game or something if you're not tired of me yet."

She opened his hand so she could trace the creases in his. She had a little bit of an obsession with palm reading so she found the lines on a persons hand interesting. "You should let me try and read your future one day if you're into that kind of stuff. On my last birthday my mom got me some tarot cards and a beginners guide to palm reading. I'm a big believe in the fates, you know?" she said finally letting her fingers rest with his.
