@Burning Kitty Small piece of constructive critcism pal. Whenver a new character gets a line of dialogue, they should be given a new line.

Until I read a book that does it like that, I won't be doing it like that.

Literally every book sitting on my bookshelf gives a new speaker a new line.

Pretty sure that's how it is in most novels? That's how I was always taught to write dialogue anyway...

I started a list for both in the titanpad. The X-Men listed are the only older ones still in the field [save for Storm, too old...] and would be joined by a handful of younger new X-Men. The Brotherhood I ran with Scarlet Witch leading them and just threw a few names and ages in there...

As for standard, when I see it in a professional publication, not on a website such as this, then we can talk about whether it is standard or not. Until then, I am going to do it my way. You can either accept that or don't read it.

It does not bother me as much as I tend to use color to differentiate or bolding and this is a casual role playing site

But I just wanted to show that technically that is the correct way to write speech.

Edit: also textbooks (depending on the type) often do not have dialogue in them so no need for that type of format to be implemented there. Same with scientific writing. The author isn't trying to transport the reader anywhere they are trying to inform

Creative writing is a bit different. Having dialogue seperated allows for easier reading and more smooth of transitions. That's why it's a thing.

Like I said before this is a casual role play though and not an actual novel. Using color or bolding is perfectly fine here because no one is trying (at least I don't think so) to print this and publish it so not following exactly isn't going to harm anyone...just makes it harder for the brain to transition easier.

Most people who go to college tend to be at least 20 before being done. They also use textbooks. Two decades is 20 years. So unless you didn't go to college go ahead and add 20 to 20.

Also you just said the only books you've read in your lifetime are textbooks. That is also the way writing is done in professional publication. So before you say anymore about seeing something in writing you should think about actually picking up a book. I recommend Cat in the Hat for your level of intellect.

Also, you're wrong in saying you can write anyway you want. This is KL and BlackSam's rp so therefore when it comes to what happens within the rp they are your kings. You obey them or get banished. If you want I can bring the attention of a mod to your rude behavior and they'll shut down every argument you have.

To address your last paragraph, either you're straight up lying, all the other people didn't want to be mean, or they all sucked at writing just as bad as you do. I just didn't care until you started filling the OOC with your ignorance. Oh, and I can easily figure out that math. Due to BlackSam being your current Co-GM, they are >everyone else not complaining. So, you and your horribly written ridiculously overpowered character can go play that game in your head that you most assuredly will always lose.

The Co-GM was merely trying to help you make your writing flow easier, and for the record I'm in my 30's too and know that's how people are supposed to write. I don't complain because the words are still there, but it's unfair to put BlackSam into a category like he's the only person that ever mentioned anything about the style of your writing. I backed him up because he's right and because he's my Co-GM. Then two or three other players chimed in and agreed and/or listed more examples. It's not BlackSam compared to everyone else, that's a handful of people now in this RP who agree he's right about this.

It's ultimately up to you whether you change the style of your writing, but if you insist that everyone who agrees with BlackSam is wrong despite listing several examples, don't be surprised if not as many players want to collaborate with Hulkerine in-game. I literally typed "starting a new line of dialogue" into google and it listed eight examples on page one that each agrees with what everyone is trying to tell you.

Again, it's up to you whether or not you adjust your writing style. However I'm gonna quote Rule # 3 and # 5 from the IC, and then I'd appreciate it if everyone dropped this.

So I'm partially writing this to confirm that I am in fact alive while still deciding on how exactly to start Lucida off. But I had been following the OOC and IC up until about a day or two ago. And I come back to this XD

Surprising to be honest. And while I do notice that the matter has been or will be settled I still felt I could maybe get away with adding my own opinion. Which is:

This isn't a matter to argue over, nor is it one to get upset or be rude about, whether it be by the perpetrator or any other member of the roleplay. Being that it is a casual roleplaying forum and it's supposed to be simple enough to write or play as you wish so long as it is within the realm there should be no problem with how one member writes even if outside of the set standard or norm. Still, although I am young, Not even 22 yet, I am and English major currently working on my Bachelors degree as well as a writing tutor on campus. Given that, and the fact that I often have to sign up for and attend workshops to make sure I'm still qualified to do my job, I have to agree that the advice given on the writing of dialogue in most cases of creative writing is correct. There should be a line break, a new line, each time a new character speaks. So if I had Lucida speaking and Johnny began to speak, a new line would be made for his speech. And sure I may break it and add exposition and then continue his speech without needing a new line if Lucida or any other character proceeded to chime in I would therefore need to break again to begin a new paragraph.

That being said, sorry I'm a little late to the party. Even more so if the matter has already been handled. I'm writing like all the time, so sometimes the old noodle is juiced up on one subject and lacking in another lol I'll try and make sure I'm up to date on the IC before I post.

@Eviledd1984 Sheets looking better. Though why have you listed Lady Deathstrike and Harry Osborne in his supporting characters section? You make no mention to them prior to that. If it's just to pad the CS with recognizable names, there's really no reason to do that. Just leave that section blank, and you can work on acquiring a supporting cast during the IC, which is really far more fluid and rewarding than just name dropping. Though if there is a reason to have them there, please let me know.

As to the dialogue fiasco of 2017, like I said to begin with, it was merely constructive criticism. I made my piece, it got out of hand, now it's over. I don't need anyone to apologize to me. @Burning Kitty is free to continue writing in whichever style he's comfortable with. I'm just glad that it's done.

@Demon Shinobi If your having trouble with coming up with ideas on how to start your character, I might be able to help. Faen is going to be recruiting aspiring young heroes to face off with a world-threatening villain very shortly. Also it's nice of you to apologize for @MthePathSeeker, but it's not a problem. We all have to start somewhere, and we all make mistakes.

@Demon Shinobi I meant to PM you earlier about your character as well, since she's tied to Johnny Storm. You think Johnny could visit Ben with his adopted daughter when Ben's nephew is around?
