Right, I get how it works now, but I still think that it's a weird system. Then again, it's new and I don't have any practical experience with it. For one, I'd like to know where and when these things popped into existence, secondly, I really enjoy Yu-Gi-Oh as-is, so I'd still vote normal decks--no links

Well, with the announcement of the new anime came new summoning mechanics for this year; Link monsters will be getting released July 21st this year, and the rulings will become staple in all locals/regionals/nationals starting in August.

I'm alright with Yu-Gi-Oh as it is as well, though Garland seemed to want duels to last longer; So introducing Links early was a great way to do that. I know it's painful, as it even nerfs the Ancient Gear deck I'm using; But not to an extent that it makes it unplayable; Just limits my ability to just flat-out slaughtering my opponent with a bunch of fusions at once.

Fair enough, if you can flat-out slaughter your opponent the match-up is usually poor to begin with, though. So it'd still most likely be lopsided, just for longer.

All depends on the hands. If I can clear your backrow my fusions can usually wipe you turn 2 if my hand is good enough (Power Bond a 9k atk monster, overload fusion the same fusion again but with it's regular 4500 atk, both pierce, negate trap and spells targeting them, don't allow you to use traps or spells in my Battle Phase or yours, and can attack all monsters you control.) But if your xyz and syncro hoard is good enough it'll just destroy all my shit and prevent me from playing the game. Either way, games will probably end up ending very quick.

Actually it states monster effects can't be used. And you didn't account for the fact I play raidraptors (a proper build, not the meta version) So I just throw in readiness and next turn rise falcon, for (indeed) a short game.

My reasons for not wanting links is the same as Ryou's basically. It's new and we haven't gotten much experience with it. Might help buff my Ojama deck, but since we're RPing duels I don't think I'll have to worry about them being underpowered anyhow.

I don't see why you wouldn't have to. Since the drawing is random and nothing is scripted, these are just like real life or program-based duels. Though you could be cheeky and do a turn 1 5-zone lockdown if you wanted, I guess.

Honestly though, respect for the Ojamas. I enjoy randomly running them from time to time, and Ojama Trio is my favorite trap card in the game. I mentioned I would be probably making multiple decks for my character to shuffle through; So maybe I can make one more Ojama-leveled so it isn't one-sided as shit. Most likely either Roids (Keep the GX theme rolling!) Or Morphtronics.

I was going to do it anyways; So regardless, we'll have more equal footing compared to Ojamas vs my gears, lol. :)

Decided on Vehicleroids as a second deck, as Morphtronics are kind of burn/troll at this point, so I'd rather not bring that into this roleplay for the sake of not being an annoying douche.

I'm against links because I just find them unnecessary, I think its gonna complicate things.

Guardians will be custom, and you can create up to 3 balanced custom cards for your personal use in addition to it(though if it's for plot reasons, like, say, a disciple/mentor of one character giving the other a gift as a means of strengthening their bonds or some such example, I'll allow additional customs, within reason, of course).

Anyways, it seems like a sort of mixed reception toward Links, so here's a compromise(whether you guys accept it or not is fine with me either way):

No Link Monsters, but the new ruleset is still in play, sans the 12000 Life Points(debating on anime style 4000 or traditional 8000), which means:

-There are now two monster zone categories: Main and Extra. 5 main deck monster zones, as usual, but 2 extra deck monster zones, which each player can only have 1 of their Extra Deck monsters in at a time.

-Each player can only have one Extra Deck Monster on the field, and said monster goes to the Extra Monster Zone. However, and this is a homebrew rule, if the ED monster is Special Summoned without using its respective summoning method, it goes to the Main Monster Zone. Which means stuff like Ultimaya Tzolkin and Utopia Kaiser(which is still kinda unplayable, sadly) can still use their Special Summoning effects without any problems, but Pendulum Monsters summoned from the ED still hit the field one at a time. Additionally, Instant Fusion treats the summon as a Fusion Summon, so the monster still goes to the Extra Monster Zone.

-The Pendulum Zones are in the same row as Spell and Trap Cards, and can be used as such. Which means that Pendulum Monsters can be set in the Pendulum Zones now, but are not treated as being in the Pendulum Zone unless they are face-up.

Perfect! It limits Extra Deck without requiring deck tinkering for Link Monsters; This could become an actual alternative format I might use with friends IRL and suggest to a few of my online pals, too.

As far as Life Points are concerned; 8000 is probably the safe bet. 4k is still pretty low; It's not difficult to do 4k in one turn still, depending on the hand.

My character, her Guardian Monster, as well as her Ancient Gear and Roid decks, are complete; I'm currently making concepts for my custom cards.

Yeah, this actually sounds pretty legit! Slows down the game without adding a new mechanic that'd be confusing to some players.

I'm considering running Masked Heroes instead of Ojamas cause I wanna fight people at full power and not get absolutely stomped on.

Masked Heroes are pretty cool! Haven't played them a lot, personally, but I've played against them a bunch. Ain't afraid to say I've lost, either, though that was when I was going through my Spyral phase. >w>
