rocketrobie2 I like your idea, though would have to amend it slightly as my vault is largely weapons free, and having grown up in a vault, he would be more of a 'wannabe cowboy', at least tarting out (queue john wayne / clint eastwood saying). I was intending on not allowing the survival skill for starting vault dwellers, though may make an exception here, because the post apocalyptic landscape, whilst different, still has many of the same plants, and animals albeit mutated, so one could have learned at least basic survival from books and folklore passed down. I would allow for example, his great grandfather (or some other ancestral figure) was a rancher and left him a hat and pistol holster belt (or he just gatherd those things over the years because of his obsession with pre war western culture, perhaps even a replica pistol or an outright toy pistol), he learned small guns from a cowboy book etc

i'm thinking iof basing this rp in the oklahoma wasteland, so a cowboy would be kind of fitting, right?

a 'brawler/big guns' type character would also be cool. could even be a bit cowboy/cavalry like that guy in predator with the cigar and minigun.

@JesseJ Yeah I was thinking of mixing the ideas 'cause I liked them both. Also I'm fine with dropping survival since I can just get it later on right? It could be cool to have him need to separate fact from fiction in the wasteland and learn how to be a real Cowboy in the post-apoclyptic wasteland.

haha yeah that sounds like it would make great roleplaying. consider getting big guns later too, because i don't think there will be many options or variety early on.

@JesseJ I've got a question. What is categorized under energy weapons? Is that everything like rifles, pistols and bigger stuff like tesla cannons or do the bigger stuff still go under big guns? Just curious though I'll probably just end up going with small guns and unarmed initially.

Probably everything energy will be energy, but the big energy weapons like Gatling lasers would have a strength requirement to operate.

@Raddum
I'm not sure if that's good or bad, should I make it the next state north or are you fine? I'm thinking of making it around a similar time to the original vault dweller, before the super mutant remnants retreat east and the brotherhood follows them. Some familiar factions may be present in smaller capacities, what do you think?

@JesseJ I'm all for it too. Only downside I see to it is a lack of NCR (I think? They aren't established yet in the Vault Dweller's time right?) but thats pretty minimal.

Hey all, so I've been doing some reading here and there about Oklahoma. One of the reasons I picked it is because there isn't much fallout canon about it, so i can basically make shite up and won't be offending canonical zealots.

Furthermore, I don't have to figure it all out straight away. Quite a bit I can develop as we go, since your characters are starting in a vault that hasn't yet opened yet (or has it?). You will have to discover the wasteland around, so I won't play all my overseer cards in one go hehe.

Sounds good to me. Possibly exploring places I go to in real life weekly will be hilarious, lol.

As far as Sherri and I are aware, the Vault has never been opened. If it was, she would have been the one opening the damn thing and getting out. So it's safe to assume that either the Overseer is secretive in having people leave and come back, or we're still sealed waiting for our cherry-popping Vault Door opening into the savage lands outside.

I have not done a table top RPG in such a long time, I'd love to get into one again but I have a query or two about character creation. One, are we limited to starting from within a vault and Two, are we limited to only human characters? I have a character sheet knocking around somewhere of a half human/half ghoul PC, I know it's not canon but I took some creative liberties XD. If you wanna see it I can show it here or PM you,@JesseJ.

Edit: I may have just realized this is a private game, in that case - oops.

Edit Edit: I live in an awkward time zone, UTS +3, so if I don't reply immediately I'm not being rude! I'm probably just asleep or something.

@Voltus_Ventus I'm pretty sure this isn't a private game if that counts for anything. I don't know JesseJ or Raddum and I'm kickin' around.

Nah, you're good! We're open to people, we're finally getting close to starting so you showed up at a good time!

Firstly, we are starting in a vault as inexperienced Vault Dwellers, and secondly, we are restricted to humans. (The first answer kind of makes this one pointless but ye, that's the brass tacks.)

edit:

Also, I don't know these losers! you guys aren't losers i like you guys ;p

G'day Voltus_ventus,

Regarding Timezone what really matters is the hours one is typicality online. I'm in Australia, a cool +10 gmt but the times of day I'm typically online seem to mesh well with others on this forum, not always though.

Regarding characters, as Raddum pointed out indeed we are starting in a vault. This is for several reasons including: it's easier logistically, it's easier narratively, and it makes sense that everyone is level 0 with hardly any relevant equipment.

Regarding non humans, the only type I would consider is a robot, and it would have to be really original, quirky, and the author a genius. If those criteria were met I'd be happy to work on some kind of development system because obviously it doesn't level up, injure, and get equipment like a human character.

Btw everyone I have some ripper ideas for robot npc you will likely encounter.

Alright, I've put some thought into my character then and I think I've come up with something I like.

I'm imagining someone tall but not too tall, maybe 6'1 or so, he'd be fairly narrow but not lanky, a lean physique. He'd have milky skin, scar flecked - mainly around his hands and forearms. He'd have honey-colored hair, shorter on the sides and rear and long and messy on the top; a casual crew cut. He'd have a long face with sharp features, an angular jaw and and thin lips, topped with an imperious nose and large brown eyes. On the right side of his neck he'd have the cog shaped wheel of the vault tattooed in with its number in the center, below his ID number and occupation.

Speaking of occupation he'd work in maintenance, a few years of experience and in his mid 20's, he's a charming, warm chap with a thick accent despite the lack there of in the vault. In his off hours he'd smoke hand rolled cigars, made of 'recycled organic matter', drink liqueurs brewed in the most secluded buckets of the vault and brawl in arranged fights deep in the gutty works of the bunker, for extra rations of luxury stuffs.

I'm not sure what special skills I'd need though, they are all so nice!

Sounds like an interesting character. Based on what you've said, I'd suggest unarmed and repair definitely, and possibly traps/throwing/gambling as a third.
