I need to see this movie. I'm actually from the same down as the survivor. He went to my HS and all that jazz - way before my time, but still kinda cool. :)

Kate you need to get around to setting up a much more badass and sexier chat room.
You know with booze, blackjack, and hookers and less babysitting

Sorry to hear about your day.

My own day wasn't terribly upsetting, I rather enjoyed most of it at least.

I'm still stuck at a loss however in one of my classes. We were supposed to pick a topic for a persuasive paper four days ago and I've still yet to pick one. I'm falling pretty behind but I honestly don't know what to write about. I'm not passionate or emotionally heated about anything.

Thanks~

You only need to pick a side of something that you can empathize with, even if you don't agree with it.

In fact, I think arguing for what you believe in makes for the least interesting persuasive paper. Least persuasive too because your bias leaks out. Pick the other side. It's more fun.

In uni, I wrote a paper on why you should smoke cigarettes. For example, I went through all sorts of "Sexiest Man Alive" charts and showed how 80% of them smoked. The more dissonant, the easier it is to write.

LadyBella - Nothing. It's a worn cliche, but I really don't have an opinion on anything. Why can't abortion or cats and dogs simply be abortion, cats, and dogs? if that makes any sense I guess. I don't see a point in siding with either side of any topic that is so fruitless. It is what it is, with or without my support.

It's like trying to talk about being bored I guess. It's pointless and boring. No matter how much you talk about it, being bored is simply being bored. I tried to think for a whole week about something profound and interesting about boredom, and that was arguably the most boring week of my life.

Mahz - I'm most likely going to go with a similar approach to that. Like I was saying earlier, I really don't empathize with any of the issues but I'm just going to pick something controversial and run with it. For instance, I live in a very small and sheltered Christian community so an interesting paper would be one that is pro gay marriage or something of that sort. Not necessarily because I find the topic interesting, but I think the responses would be semi worthy of my time invested.

It is cool how you took a unique approach to that paper however. I didn't know of that statistic, but in a way it makes sense. People seem to love a dark and brooding character.

Thanks~

In high school I wrote the best persuasive paper of my whole life. We had to pick a side on the death penalty, so I chose Pro. Everyone else wrote about the costs, whether it was a deterrent or not ect. and both sides just found arguments that supported their own points (we all had to read our papers out loud in that class). All I did was find the 5 most horrific serial killers of all time and wrote about all of the terrible things they did and then in my conclusion I asked if anyone in the class would stand up to defend their right to live.

Nobody said a word.

The lesson I learned there is that when you want to really make a good point, citing statistics means nothing, go for the emotional response.

The first time I had sex, I didn't know what to do afterwards, so I just gave her a high five and made us some macaroni and cheese. It was one of the most awkward and hilarious and meaningful meals I've ever had.

That's a confession.

That was a great film, probably one of the best war movies ever made. I'd be lying if I said I didn't tear up at the end as well. However, for a movie that rips your tears out from you, I'd recommend "12 Years A Slave". The only movie to actually make me cry, not just well up or have single tear go down my face, but straight up waterfalls. Such an emotional film. Gonna have to go watch something funny now just thinking about it., haha.

Reminds me of my senior year in high school in Economics class. My teacher picked the two she felt were the best for each side, asked us to stand up in front of the class, and then debate/state our cases. I was against it, she was for it. They were all silent when I finished. Don't want to start an argument on here, so I'll leave it at that.
