On the shores of Lake Listless

Suddentl, Orion and Arara's W.A.T.C.H.'s started blinking, a beeping sound turning to a steady tone before fading, along with the display of their status. Both their names appeared on their watchfaces, with the first letters highlighted in silver. Then, the rest of the letters faded, as the two remaining shifted to one line, while other letters faded into view. "Team NOVA" appeared on the screen, shrinking and moving to the top while the old display faded into view. At least, it was sort of like the old display.

The regular readouts were replaced with four slots, one bigger and the rest lined up below it. Each was in their biggest slot, with their face and two things beside it, and Aura meter and a general status readout. Below them, their partner's picture was in one of the three empty slots with an Aura meter below it. The display could be projected as a hologram, and when a picture was highlighted, the screen would shift to give a full readout. Their partner's readouts would depend on the others privacy settings, but the basic info the other could get would be location, Aura levels, and physical injuries. Communication between W.A.T.C.H.'s was also activated, either through speakers or a detachable earpiece from the side of the watch face.

Just then, out on the water, a piece of wood drifted by. On top of it, was a small, silver orb, about the size of a palm. There were small straps and latches on its side, like it had been hooked on something and then taken off, but now was drifting across the water. It shone bright as the wood rocked slightly, causing small ripple waves through the otherwise pristine lake. Just when the two would make a motion towards it, though, the wood tipped, sending the cache below the water. It was visible for a few seconds, as the top level of the water was a clear, crystal blue. But then it dropped below the second layer, which was dark and cloudy, almost like a void. It was the only cache now visible on either Orion or Arara's maps, but it was apparently on the lake bottom. However, the map showed that there were several tunnels underneath the terrain from an abandoned Dust Mine, though they weren't exactly the easiest to follow. But they led to parts of the lake that were accessible from underground, where getting to the lakebed might be easier.

Point A6-A7

Rygar and Isaac's Watches blinked, before the display faded. Their names appeared on the display, the first highlighted, as the rest of their names faded. New letters appeared, reading "Team RIP," before fading to the new display for the new partners.

There was someone following him, and Daiki knew it. Growing up with the constant threat of Grimm lurking about had given him a great sense of awareness of his surroundings. As long as his follower wasn't trying anything, however, he was content to leave them alone. No point starting a fight for no reason. At least, that was until he heard a branch snap overhead and stopped abruptly as someone crashed on the ground in front of him.

It was another student, who apparently wasn't very adept at traversing through the canopy. The boy lifted up his watch and requested that they form a pair. Well, he had pretty much given up hope of finding Grizel anyway, for their initiation grounds seemed a lot larger than he first suspected. Without anyway of finding out the map's scale, Daiki couldn't know if the faunus girl was a mile away or ten. Judging from the sounds of fighting he heard along the way, he might not have the luxury of time to find out.

"Sure." He agreed as he matched up his WATCH with the boy's. "The name's Daiki, and there's a cache not far away. We should be fine if we stay on the branches, think you can keep up?"

Walking about on the forest floor, Jack glanced at her watch now and again to check if there were any nearby students. Most of the responses on her Watch were brief: coming from the direction of the falling compartment, shooting overhead, and disappearing in the opposite direction. Of those that had slowed down and presumably landed nearby, almost everyone had paired and disappeared from the screen. Jack was almost getting a little frustrated when she heard a sound,

Zing-ing-ing-ing
Pomf=3

"Oh." She said, nonplussed. Descending from above, a boy had spooled out some sort of winch to lower himself down before landing on his rump softly. She hadn't really expected another student to almost literally fall into her lap, AND he had a big weapon. You know what they say about big weapons: Big weapons are cool.

With her battle axe still resting on her shoulder, Jack spoke up to the hammer-wielding boy in a matter of fact tone. "Guess we're partners now. Looking forward to it. Wanna go kill some Grimm and find a cache now?"

Tarkus' had to do a double take to make sure he was seeing right, he didn't expect to find someone so quickly, and the W.A.T.C.H. confirmed she did indeed have a W.A.T.C.H. of her own, the girl had a battle axe that had some form of gun barrel...seemed like she had a transforming weapon. She mentioned that they were now partners, and he nodded in agreement, those were the rules after all, first partner seen was yours to become buds with. He scratched the back of his head with his free hand, before saying: "Nice to meet ya, Name's Tarkus. Tarkus Sloan. So...isn't this thing supposed to show us where to find one of those caches?" He muttered the last bit as he tapped the screen of the W.A.T.C.H., only to see a little loading bar with an hourglass turning over and over as it worked it's way along.

He sighed a bit as he lowered his arm from the back of his head, he placed Cadeyrn's head on the ground and leaned it against the same tree he had descended from. He took a deep breath and his olive green aura began manifesting around his body, and in a few seconds he let out several, inaudible "pings" that resonated throughout the forest, and he saw exactly what he was looking for: Grimm. He couldn't be sure of how many there were, but he got an odd feeling that there were a lot. He picked up Cadeyrn again before turning to face this new girl.

Sayuri was taken by surprise when Reya was almost skewered by her sword, "Well this is oddly convenient but I'm not complaining," When asked if she wanted help she simply responded, "Yes, that would be very nice indeed," As Reya cut the branch the grabbed another branch righting herself before dropping lightly to her feet. She turns and picks up her sword before turning back to face Reya. She smiles, sheathes her sword, then takes Reya's hand, "Nope I have absolutely no problem with that. So, where should we head to look for one of the caches? Also what kind of fighter are you?"

Tarkus & Jackie

Both WATCHes on the students beeped in unison as the two were registered as partners within the database, their portraits and the first letter of their names displayed on the bottom of the interface. These followed by two blanked out portraits, presumably filled in later once the group had reached a cache. Tarkus' WATCH continued to lag on for a moment before finally responding with a loud "BEEP BEEP MUTHAFUCKA". The map of the area around the two expanded somewhat, giving both students a more zoomed out view of the immediate area. A silver orb like blip hovered around the edge of the newly expanded map. It seemed that the cache they were being directed to sat directly in the middle of the emerald forest. If the darker shades of green surrounding the blip were anything to go by, the forested area that their cache was hidden in was incredibly dense. Indeed, once the two set off through the thickening woods they would feel as if something were... watching them. A very unnerving feeling. But nothing hostile seemed to appear. Nothing yet.

When Tarkus introduced himself, Jack didn't respond immediately. Was she the weird one for remembering people's names from less than a year ago? I mean yeah, the grad class isn't exactly small and they never really hung out, but they spent four years at Signal. Deciding it was funnier than it was annoying, Jack chuckled a bit and grinned wider. "Yeah, nice to meet'cha Tarkus. I'm Jack."

When the WATCHes beeped, both their names appeared on their faces. Most of the letters faded, and the remaining letters shifted places, and then some new letters faded into view. "Team PaNic JolT" appeared on the screen, shrinking and moving to the top while the old display faded into view. "Oh jeez, is that what we're stuck with?" Jack griped aloud, smothering her face with one hand.

The WATCHes map then expanded and they had their answer about where to find the cache. "Guess that's it there. Might as well get going then." Slinging the axe off her shoulder and spinning it once end-over end, the parts repositioned: the axe's shaft telescoped into the pistol grip, which pivoted down perpendicular to the barrel; its back-spike swung out into a gun stock, and blade rotated into its receiver. Drawing the bolt back and driving it home, she chambered a round. "Probably a good idea to have at least one of us focusing on range."

Tirren and Daiki's W.A.T.C.H.'s followed the same routine, flashing "Team TID]E" before fading to the partner screen. Suddenly, their Watches started beeping again, with the alert of a nearby cache...two of them...moving very quickly towards each other.

SNARL!! SNAP!! CRUNCH!!

Their tree shuddered, before instantly tilting over. A huge pack of Beowolves had zeroed in on the tree they stood in from one side, while a pack of angry Ursa were on the other. Drool was flying while teeth were snapping, the wounds from the closest ones making this appear to be a fight between Grimm, that they gave up when new prey had appeared. Suddenly, the Ursa looked in another direction, sniffing and shambling off to go further into the forest.

But the Beowolves were in no mood to give up their prey, they were digging their claws into the trunk and climbing up, the added weight causing the already broken tree to tilt even more towards the nearby field. Just then, something flashed in the middle of the pack, a Beowolf who seemed to be the Alpha male, a slightly grayed muzzle and scarred eye visible on its growling face. The others seemed to circle around him, as protection, before he'd bark and send them off to some part around the tree. But on the back of his neck was a small orb, smooth silver, about the size of a palm, latched to the back of the Grimm's neck. Either he didn't notice it or didn't care, but he made no indication that he'd tried to remove it. But it's where the location of the cache showed on their Watches, as the tree they were on started to fall.
~

Reya and Sayuri's Watches beeped, fading and showing the same letter routine as the others. "Team STORM" flashed before revealing their partner screen.

Many hundred meters south from their position, was two dots, the black dot of another student and the silver dot of a cache, apparently underground. This student dot was apparently intent on going after the cache alone, as there wasn't another nearby student partnered with them. To Reya and Sayuri's East, was another cache near Helldrop Ravine, at the northern end. It was difficult to tell whether or not it was above or below ground, the z-coordinates on it were a little glitchy. North of them was an unpartnered student, and north of her was...moving caches, circling around another pair of partnered students. The ones to their South or West seemed the most viable from their position, but if the caches were one Grim, the unpartnered student North of them would be in trouble.
~

Grizel's Location: D4

Hundreds of meters behind the wolf Faunus was a huge commotion. From behind the trees, she could see a huge pack of Beowolves and some Ursa clashing with each other, before converging on a tree. The wolves seemed intent on attacking some students at the top, while the Urse lumbered off into the forest. However, they were close by, and in a position to overrun Grizel if she didn't move.

On her W.A.T.C.H. map, showed two nearby dots, and three a little ways off. The two dots below here were partnered students, as the white border around the black dot signaled. South of them were two more dots, and unpartnered student going towards and underground cache herself, and West of Grizel was a cache in the northern part of the Ravine.

If she didn't move now, the Ursa would get her scent, and possibly attract the Beowolves. fighting them was a possibility, but without a partner, she'd have a hard time.

Tarkus raised an eyebrow at the rather...vulgar yet manly expression his W.A.T.C.H. had spouted, and was honestly wondering if it would continue to make that noise after the test concluded. Part of him hoped for it. He felt that he'd met Jack before somewhere...probably somewhere at Signal, but he didn't think it mattered to dwell on it at the moment. He never was the best with names, honestly he hardly remembered his own address sometimes. But if he was going to spend 4 years with Jaclyn, he might as well remember to destroy any hopes of awkward situations. Hopefully. Probably not.

The screen blinked displaying the same thing Jaclyn was seeing, the letters spelled out Team PaNic JolT, Jack seemed to hold some chagrin for the name, but Tarkus could think of things much worse that they could have been named. Like Team PaNTs Jumpers...
The W.A.T.C.H. blinked back to the map display, though now there was a dot marking the location of something at D6, putting 2 and 2 together Tarkus realized this had to be where that data cache was located. Jaclyne made a comment about how one of the them had to cover range, and Tarkus nodded in agreement, pulling Cadeyrn from the ground and balancing the head against his shoulder. He spun the revolver out of the head to remove the HEFT shots in place, replacing them with his AP rounds, better to do it now than forget and blow his arm off later.

"You watch my back, and I'll take point..." Tarkus placed his right index finger to his right temple and released another Aura ping, looked like some of the Grimm he'd heard earlier were getting close, whether or not they could avoid them was unknown, so Tarkus simply turned to Jaclyn, saying:
"Looks like we got company."

Tarkus & Jaclyn

Indeed, company was upon them. It seemed Tarkus' pinging had drawn a crowd from the deeper portions of the forest. The sound of a thousand furious banshee shrieking from within the thick forest canopy assaulted the students. If they had deft enough eyes they would spot a variety of black blurs darting about the branches above their heads. By the sounds they were making, they were likely vampire bats. One of the monsters showed itself to the students, proving just that theory. Its wings stretched wide, it dove towards Tarkus with its intimidating maw hanging open and its knife like claws curled in anticipation. It attempted to latch onto the boy's face and sink its variety of sharp weapons into his flesh in its sound inflicted blood rage. Two more of the beasts descended for Jaclyn, looking to mangle her arms and torso much like their comrade was trying on Tarkus. Based on the sound alone and the habit of flocking together, it was safe to assume the numbers of these Grimm were significant. Probably thirty or so of the bastards were currently looking for openings on their human prey while flapping about the cover of the trees. On top of it all, their loud sounds were likely to attract more Grimm in the area.

Location: Death Grim Forest – C6

Naomi’s attention was caught by her W.A.T.C.H. beeping, as she inspected the map. From the looks of it, an unpartnered student was heading her way. She had planned on meeting up with Christophe, finding some way to…this student was moving awfully fast. Naomi couldn’t even look behind her when she was practically tackled, and everything blurred.

Fast!

Nnnnoise

Too much!

Cccan’t see, hear, fast noise!

Stop, STOP!

I DON’T LIKE IT

Cccan’t understand,

STOP!!!

Naomi’s ears were ringing, she felt like she was being pulled in every direction, there was hissing and breathing and crunching and hissing and breathing and crunching and it was really fast and she couldn’t breathe and she had to breathe and things were happening way to fast and she wanted to stay and stop and stay still and stop and-

Her breathing slowed, she took her hands off her ears, knuckles white and palms with cuts from her nails. She could see around her now, she was in a different place. She gasped, seeing an unconscious and profusely bleeding girl in front of her. Naomi’s eyes widened in fear, hands wiping her face nervously. “Okay, okay, okay, it’s okay, okay…” she said, closing her eyes. She held her thumbs to her cheeks and index fingers to her brow, head shaking slightly and growing faster in movements. Then her eyes shot open and she pulled her hands away.

“Okay, bleeding’s bad, possibly infected from whatever Grimm attacked. Need something to help sterilize…Oakenya trees here, they have sap…which can be mixed with it’s needles to start the enzymatic production of hydrogen peroxide,” Naomi said, very quickly like she was reading from a book. She snapped her fingers, as Tibbers appeared next to her. “Tibbers, get the stuff!” she said, as the now light-green Aura construct went to work clawing at the tree and knocking its branches down.

Naomi rushed away, head in her hands like before. “Okay, okay, she also needs…also needs to get up, a short boost of energy,” she said aloud, sliding to her pack on the ground. “If I can get her awake, her Aura should get her stamina back, but maybe a little boost will help…” she said, pulling out her lunchbox. She opened the bear-shaped tin and pulled out two oranges, just as Tibbers walked over with a clawful of sap and crushed needles. “Good timing, put that on her wounds, then squeeze the oranges to get the juice in her mouth. S’okay if there’s some sap, glucose will help her energy levels,” she said, running away after setting down the fruit.

“Okay, okay, she needs something on her cuts, um, um um, umumum…Freliose flowers, their leaves are wide, and while technically separate, they grow with their edges together,” she said once more, finding the flowers from the picture she saw in a book. She found it, Yellow with blue tips and purple centers, and sighed. She plucked off a few leaves, saying, “This is as sterile as we’ll get, hope the sap will help,”

She rushed over, just as Tibbers finished dribbling the squeezed oranges into Pascale’s mouth. Naomi quickly slapped the leaves, after prying them apart, in the girl’s wounds. Still breathing hard, she gripped her hoodie while heaving. She paced, sitting down beside a nearby tree, as Tibbers appeared beside her. “Okay, okay, okay, we have to wait, I think. She lost a lot of blood, but if we took care of her stuff alright, her Aura should kick in and help get her up and going. She’s lucky there wasn’t worse damage, I don’t know if her Aura could do much else besides…” she paused, as the forest around her grew quiet. Unnervingly so.

Naomi held her breath, eyes darting around as snapping twigs broke the quiet. She stumbled up, tripping and landing beside Pascale’s unconscious form. She started hyperventilating, as Tibber’s form grew more erratic and disjointed. Lumbering into view, from behind the trees, was an injured Ursa, with the sounds of more surrounding them. It’s nose twitched, as Naomi mentally chastised herself. While Oakenya sap could be approximated into an anti-bacterial solution, it also was one of the favored food sources of the Ursa, and Tibbers had slashed at a lot of the trunk.

Naomi’s breathing was rapid, wheezy, and obviously frightened. Something that the Ursa could definitely tell, judging from the apparent pleasure taken by its slow approach. Several others came into view around Naomi and Pascale, approaching at a slower speed than their injuired leader. Naomi’s hands tensed, clutching the large sleeves on her hoodie. She glanced back, seeing an opening between the trees, through the Ursa’s line of defense. She could make a run for it, maybe have Tibbers run decoy. But then her hand fell down, touching Pascale’s arm.

Naomi looked, staring at Pascale’s face. This girl was obviously being chased and hounded, but chose to pick Naomi up rather than leave her to get overrun. While Naomi would’ve preferred to take care of herself, no one else had really shown this…attention? Care? Not anyone who she hadn’t formally met, anyways. Naomi’s look of fear was gone, her brow furrowed in determination, and the Ursa leader could see it to.

It slowed its approach as Naomi pointed a fingers. “Tibbers…sic ‘em.”

The Aura construct roared to life it’s previous color of light green flashing to red. Tibbers eyes glowed very bright as he roared, slightly increasing in size as the injured leader stood up to roar at him. Tibbers charged, shoulder tackling him and sending him bouncing backwards into a tree, temporarily stunned. At its neck, like a bell on a collar, was a silver orb, latched at the base of its neck.

Tibbers ran around slashing and swiping at the pack of Ursa around them, clawing some and biting others. He was trying to attack all of their attention, to have them focused completely on him, while Naomi hefted Pascale on her shoulder. It wasn’t easy, Pascale’s knees barely cleared the ground, and Naomi’s legs were feeling wobbly. But she had to get the girl out of harms way for the time being, at least until she could wake up. She turned, straining herself, as she dragged Pascale past the clearing of trees she landed in. But she didn’t see, while Tibbers was attacking the rest of the pack, that the injured leader had shaken off its woozy clouds and gave the big bear fight a wide berth.

It could tell this strange thing attacking his family was connected with the little girl, it had her scent. Whether or not killing her would make it disappear was a thought for a higher-thinking creature, all the leader knew was that he had smelled her near food, which made them food as well.

The injured leader, skulking on the outsides of the clearing that the girls had landed in, edged closer and closer to the pair of girls. Naomi was too focused on dragging this girl to safety to keep mind of her surroundings, she couldn’t even hear the footfalls of the bears claws. Which meant Tibbers was staying focused on dealing with the other Ursa and wouldn’t know to go to Naomi if she needed him. Which was about to end up poorly for her, as the injured leader raised a claw behind her, ready to strike.

As the vampire bats pitched themselves below the canopy to swoop on them, Jack smoothly brought Thunderdell's barrel in line with the first of the pair targeting her. True to it's name, when she pulled its trigger Thunderdell let out a thunderous boom. The cannon shell ripped through the relatively small Grimm, leaving little more than pink mist in its wake. That close up, bass report of the heavy munitions dazed the other bat. Unable to tell where it was going, it collided face-first into the ground barely two steps from Jack. The impact wasn't enough to mortally wound it though. Lifting itself shakily from the ground, it shook its head and started to regain its bearings... just in time to see Jack swing her weapon down like an executioner.

With her two dispatched, Jack commented to her new partner. "Ugh. How much you wanna bet there are more?" Expecting he'd already killed it, she turned to see how he was fairing against his own bat.

Drunk on Pain and Exhaustion — C6

Nauseous.

Nauseous and incredibly exhausted were the only things that registered in Pascale's mind. That and a slight soothing feeling near her abdomen, thigh, and upper arm. What was that? Of course, there was really no telling from the condition she was in. Hell, Pascale wasn't even conscious during her drunken ruminations and she honestly could have cared less what was going on. Her slumber was deep, oddly restorative, but also somewhat unnerving. Shouldn't she have been in a Grim infested forest with... with someone. Who? She was holding onto someone, last she remembered. Yeah. And she was running, but from what?

Oh, it hurt so much to think.

All she wanted was rest now, or to die—whichever came first.

But, what was making her so damn nauseous? Was it that now incessant bumping she was experiencing? That faint slosh in her stomach brought on by the dizziness she didn't know she was experiencing was just so irritating. Add onto that the up and down, up and down constantly in motion feeling she was currently suspended in, and you had a cat faunus more than ready to puke her guts out.

Everything, from then on, seemed to fade in and out of view. The sounds around her were muffled and distant. Breathing, heavy breathing and loud grunts and roars in the distance. Nothing connected, though, as Pascale's mind was too hazed and intoxicated by exhaustion and fatigue. It was all too much for her mind to handle, then, and she could barely feel the onset of a migraine.

BOOM—CRAAAAAACK

"Shit," Pascale cursed, her head jolting up too quickly. Her vision was hazed and blurry, but her eyes were wide and filled with mixed feelings of shock and fear. She remembered what she was running from, and who was in her arms then, but her arms were empty and dragging listlessly on the cold, forest floor. At this moment, her aura began kicking into overdrive, draining what little she had left to return her senses, dull the pain she was currently feeling and let her carefully observe her surroundings. With it came a small burst of energy, enough to make her mind push back any thoughts of vomiting, nausea, and the need to sleep for a good twenty-four hours, as well as current vision of what was going on in front of her.

A giant, black claw raised high in the air, attached to an intimidatingly large, yet fatigued figure that blocked her entire frontal few.

Grim—Ursa.

Realizing now that the girl she had tackled and saved was currently dragging her, Pascale shifted her wait back onto her feat, pushing down a groan of pain as she did. Kicking her left foot up and sticking it out straight in front of Naomi, she positioned her hand up almost as if on cue. The pressure from propelling her foot up, unlatched the compacted weapon inside and shot it directly into her waiting hand. In these few seconds, Pascale pushed herself slightly forward, the weapon unfolding in her grasp to reveal the freshly sharpened blade sheathed inside.

Just as the Ursa swung down, the Blade connected with the underside of its paw, piercing through with the aid of the Ursa's own velocity and stopping the attack mid flight. It howled, tilting its head back in pain, giving Pascale a small window of time to fire off her boots and launch herself forward, nearly slamming Naomi into the ground as she did. What she didn't expect to happen was to fall completely onto her knees in pain just as she tugged her weapon from within the Grim's paw. The pain that shot through her thigh and into the rest of her body came as a complete shock to her. That wasn't good and soon, she joined in the Ursa's howl.

It stopped, though, hearing the girl scream in unison. The fresh blood that leaked from the wound on her thigh wafted into its nostrils; the thing took a long whiff of it, letting the heady scent completely register in its primordial mind. That, along with the sent of Oakenya sap was enough to drive the injured beast into a frenzy. Giving the girl beneath it a sinister snarl, it dipped to her level before bracing itself and drawing back both claws, intentionally enlarging its figure.

The sound of the beasts growl caught Pascale's attention. She winced, doing her best to ignore the pain now wracking her body. This wasn't good. Her eyes shifted behind her in that split second, hand reaching back to grab onto Naomi's hoodie. With enough force, she swung her arm back slightly and then launched it to the side to fling the girl a few feet away, gasping at the pain the crushed her side and arm now. In doing this, she effectively let the bear Grimm fall almost completely onto her. What the Ursa failed to notice was the sound of a the rapier shooting forward, releasing a bullet into the Grimm's chest before burying itself deep into its chest, coming in at an angle as it fell straight into the hilt, nearly missing the beasts heart, but finding both its artery and jugular, in the process and falling short of the spinal column in its next. The beast could only gurgle on its own blood as it lost all control of its bodily functions and simply went limp from the multitude of injuries it sustained. If not for the fact that it was already effectively beaten up, Pascale probably wouldn't have been able to make hide or hare of that situation.

The girl blacked out once more, her aura barely sustaining her beneath the dead Grimm's full weight, though the orange flicker beneath made certain that Naomi knew that her efforts to save Pascale were not in vain. But, if nothing were to throw the dead Ursa off her in time, she may as well be dead to her already.

"Jump!" Daiki yelled to the other student. Surrounded as they were by Grimm, it was better to land properly on their feet and ready to fight rather than follow the tree in its descent and possibly end up crushed or stunned by the impact. Time seemed to slow for Daiki as years of experience taught him to quickly scan the the terrain and plan their route of escape or engagement. That was when he spotted the Beowolf with a crystal like object around his neck. As far as he knew, Grimm were not known to have a fashion sense or even the digits required to adorn such a thing. "The alpha in the center! It's got that data thingy!" He cried out.

There were Ursa on one side, Beowolves on the other, and Daiki had no idea what his partner could or could not do, or even what kind of weapons he carried. "I'll take the Ursa, you take the wolves?" He suggested, before sliding down the trunk on his feet, rapidly accelerating as his hand went to his shinken and prepared to draw. At the same time, his aura infused the blade and prepared for an attack. Moments before he met the first Ursa at the base, he drew his blade, slicing clean through the middle of its snout between the jaws. The aura infused blade sent an arc of energy through it and cut through the Ursas behind it in a cone, before meeting the ground and creating an explosion of dirt and grass. Now that his landing zone was clear of live Grimm, Daiki landed on a small patch of grass that was exposed between the carcasses of the Ursa.

His blade was back in its sheath and Daiki adopted a defensive stance. He had the tree behind him for now, and the bodies of slain Ursa around him to hinder the movement of the survivors for a bit. He took a deep breath and widened his senses, trying hard to focus on each opponent around him.He hadn't used much of his aura and he could easily handle the enemies if he used it purely for offense, but Daiki still had to think about his partner and remember that both of them had to get the cache and find the corresponding pair, as well as make it ouf of the Grimm infested territory. He couldn't waste all of his energy here unnecessarily.

It seemed that it was irrelevant where Daiki actually was, at home or school or in a strange different forest - everywhere was a jungle and he had to use his skill to survive. He didn't have time glance back and check on his partner lest they were caught unawares. "You still alright?" He asked softly, afraid to attract more Grimm with his voice, despite the commotion they had already made.

Time seemed to slow down as the sizeable bat made its way to Tarkus, undoubtedly prepared to rip his face off and turn his head into a nest...or something along those lines. Tarkus had only enough time for a single thought to prepare for his first real fight against the Grimm. He could hear the flapping of more of their hideous leathery wings in the canopy above, and steeled himself for a fight.
"So, a bat...A TON of bats are flying at me while I'm trying to get acquainted with my new pal...only one way to describe this..."
He clenched his hand encased in Zoll into a fist, and within a second, the dull thud of metal against flesh rang out, as Tarkus threw out an uppercut at full force against the bat's face, hurling it into the air.
"Mosh Pit"

The bat began to descend rapidly, desperately trying to regain it's balance to fly and try another shot at him, though it never got a chance. The thing saw two things before it turned into a splatter on the side of a tree: Tarkus' grin, and the hole of Panzerfaust as Cadeyrn slammed into it, sending the small thing flying into a tree, the sheer force of the impact breaking every bone in its body; thing died on impact. With a look of satisfaction, he glanced over to Jack, who'd offed two of the little buggers. She was groaning, asking if he knew how many there were...which he did.
"Somewhere around 30 of these bats, but other Grimm are coming, and them screeching isn't helping us keep under the radar." As he said this, another came swooping down, this time trying to go directly for Tarkus' neck. He swatted it away with one swing of Cadeyrn, and the thing landed hard into another of its kind, though there were still more.
"We should bail out, no point fighting these things from what I can see. Think you can cover me?"
He said as he crouched down, and spun the head of Cadeyrn out, reaching into his satchel to load 4 new rounds, 2 fire, 2 water.

Naomi paused when she heard the gunshot, looking off to the side and pausing. Then she noticed a large shadow beside her, head jerking back around to see the very large Grimm raising a claw to strike. Naomi froze, as Tibbers started to flicker slightly in the middle of the Ursa a few yards back.

She flinched as it struck, but then it started screaming instead. Naomi peeked through her eyelids before she felt herself being forced down, as the boots from the girl she’d just helped fired off Dust rounds. Naomi was reeling, she could feel her heartbeat in her ears again. There was a lot of stimulus around, and she didn’t have the comfort of Christophe’s plans telling her what to do. She struggled, forcing herself to not white out and lose focus again. She came to Beacon to prove she could handle herself, she had to not run away in her head when things got difficult, she had to-

And now she was flying.

Just a few feet, Naomi rolled as she heard a muffled sound and a cry of pain. Naomi shook her head, a little dizzy from the unscheduled flight, and saw the Ursa lying on the ground. Lifeless, or soon to be, it’s eyes were cold and growing colder. But the person it was on would soon join it, if she stayed under there for much longer.

“N-no!” Naomi shouted, running over and slamming her tiny shoulder in the Ursa’s side. She pushed as hard as she could, but the body wasn’t moving. She wimpered, looking back and shouting, “Tibbers!! Help!” Instantly, the Aura construct was beside her, growling as it shoved the beast’s body hard. It started rolling, and another shove pushed it completely off of Pascale’s body. Naomi dove close, ear to Pascale’s mouth to check her breathing.

“…I dunno, if she’s breathing, it’s shallow,” she said, as Tibbers growled and nodded in one direction. Naomi glanced to see the other Ursa creeping over, as Tibbers had disappeared from their battle. Tibbers made a few odd growls to Naomi, who replied, “I know! But we can’t move her yet, I dunno if she’s alright!” Naomi looked back to the Ursa, breathing heavily through her nose, obviously on the brink of another episode.

Then Tibbers placed a hand on her shoulder, and she paused. She looked up at him, as he gave a few more oddly toned growls. Naomi nodded, saying, “Alright, if you think so,” bending low and hugging Pascale tightly. Tibbers rose up and surrounded Naomi and Pascale, who were slightly within his Aura constraints, just as the Ursa surrounded them. They roared, slashing and biting at Tibber’s body, but he expanded and slightly puffed up, providing a buffer and shield to the two girls. For minutes, the pack of Ursa pounded and attacked Tibbers body, which was still holding strong, but showing signs of deterioration from the onslaught.

Naomi opened her eyes, brow set and determined, as her eyes started to glow, very softly. Tibber’s lines started glowing as well, brighter and brighter, slowly turning from it’s color to white. And brighter still, almost blinding, as Naomi’s eyes matched its intensity. The Ursa paused in their attack, whining and covering their eyes with their paws, as Tibber’s body started to grow. Like it was being inflated, a balloon filling almost to-

There was a huge flash, though no sound, save for air rushing and bodies thumping. The Ursa were thrown back, knocking over trees and slamming into rocks, and any that weren’t dead were knocked out. Around the two girls was a circle of blown dirt, showing where the blast was, and they had been safely inside the bubble Tibbers had made.

Naomi was silent, before opening her eyes. She looked around, not seeing any of the Grimm that surrounded them, just the body of the one that Pascale killed. It was thrown into a tree, it’s back wrapped around it like a bow. Naomi breathed a sigh of relief, looking down on Pascale. Tibbers was gone, and Naomi knew that it would be awhile before he could form again, after that display, but she still spoke to him. “I dunno, Tibbers, Christophe’s counting on me to join with him. I mean, she saved my life, twice, although she did it without asking me. …Yeah, I guess there wouldn’t have been time, but she didn’t know if I could…yeah, I guess she couldn’t have known…I know she was just looking out for me, I just…it’s different. I know Christophe and the gang, I’m used to them, they’re stable for me when new things happen,” Naomi said, reaching up to her shoulder as if someone had a hand there.

“…I guess I have to get used to new things, huh? I don’t want to be the girl who just hides in her hoodie when bad things happen…” she said, looking down on her W.A.T.C.H. It started beeping, rapidly turning into a tone as the screen faded. The names popped up, as Naomi saw the girls name was “Pascale Buckley.” Then the other letters faded, as new ones faded in to say, “Team PANIC.” Naomi sighed, saying, “I guess there’s no going back now…yeah, guess the name is kind of fitting,” and glanced over to the body of the Ursa that first attacked. She looked at the silver object on its neck for awhile, before standing up and going over to it. She reached out, hand pausing just before touching it, and then grabbed it. The latches disengaged and retreated inside the thing, leaving it a completely smooth orb. Naomi looked at it for awhile, before putting it in her bag. “It’s alright if I open it after meeting up with Christophe, right? I just…I’d like to talk to him before it’s…you know, final,” she said aloud, walking back over to Pascale.

At this moment, she wished Tibbers was physically there again, as she had to once more drag the girl along. She brought the girl’s arm over her shoulder to hoist her up, and began the slow walk out of the forest. “I hope it’s not too far to the edge of the forest,” Naomi said, as the ground began to rumble. She looked around in concern, before there was a sound of trees falling down a little ways in front of her. She scrambled forward as the rumbling died down, passing through the forest to see the mountain range. She gasped at a huge line carved into the ground, like something very power or very fast had just ran through.

“Naomi?”

She looked up to see the familiar face of Jonah land nearby. “What happened?” she asked, nodding in the direction of the commotion.

Jonah growled, “Ashton’s being an idiot again, I swear he’s gonna get killed…and what happened to you?” he asked, pointing to Pascale’s unconscious body.

Naomi paused, saying, “We got into a bit of a scrape, can you help us out?” she didn’t tell him that her W.A.T.C.H. had partnered the two together, and she had a feeling he didn’t know how they worked yet either, considering Ashton had just apparently sped away.

“Yeah, I got it,” he replied, easily lifting Pascale on his arm. “Hop on my back, I’ll try and get us over there, I’ll fill you in on what happened on the way,” he said, as Naomi climbed up and gripped his shoulders. Jonah took one of his hammers and swung it around, letting it fly and carrying them with some assistance from its jets, as the trio lifted off and leaped into the air. “So,” Jonah said, a bit loudly as the air was rushing around them, “Ash and I were falling through the air…

Ashton "YEE-HAW!" lasted for almost his entire ride down, as he gripped his hat to keep it from flying off his head from the fall.

Jonah grimaced, saying, "We're falling a little too fast, I'm gonna burn up all my Dust keeping us from going splat!" he shouted, the jets from his hammer fighting against gravity

Ashton only smirked, holding his arm down. It had a fairly thick gauntlet on it, with rows and rows of bullets visible from the forearm down. But along the base of the arm, there was a small opening. He flexed his fingers, as a long, fairly thick filament slipped out. He swung his arm as the rope looped itself, creating a hoop, as Ashton said, "Get us moving sideways, pard'ner!"

Jonah looked to his hammer, scowling at the thought, but complied with Ashton's order. He swung his harmmer around by it's tether, throwing it in front of him while still gripping the loop. Coupled with the jets, they shot forward, just as Ashton threw his arm to the side. The rope sailed till it snagged the top of a tree, and the rope started glowing orange when it pulled tight.

He gave another shout of joy as he pulled tight, the lasso causing them to spin around the tree. Faster and faster they went as the rope grew shorter and shorter, binding around the trunk and clipping branches all the way down. Jonah's face grimmaced against the spinning, while Ashton's face held a rush of joy. Nearing the middle of the trunk, He swung low and pulled on the lasso, causing them to swing upwards in the air just as he let go of the rope.

Jonah was still reeling as the two flew through the air, knocking through branches as they cleared the forest from their swing. They flew to the base of the mountain, hitting dirt and skipping like stones, before rolling to a long stop with a huge trail of dust behind them. Jonah pushed up, groaning, coughing, cut all over, but alive. He grunted as she pulled his legs to a crouch and stood up, rubbing his head while looking for Ashton.

"Ace...Ace, you here?" he called out, trying to wave the dust away. He jogged through, calling out, as he ran out of the dust cloud. He froze, eyes widening, cursing under his breath. "Ace...Ace, what are you doing?" he harshly whispered, barely moving a muscle.

Ashton was looking up the mountain, hunched slightly and feet in a steady stance. Jonah was behind him, but he could practically feel the cowboy grinning, as he locked eyes with a terrifying creature.

Up the mountain, looking over a ridge, stood a black, four-legged creature. Eyes, red like fiery blood, hair silver, with white, bone like markings along its back. It's tail dashed back and forth, hair swinging, like it was conflicted and agitated. And this was a creature that did not take agitation well. On it's forehead, sharp and bright, was a translucent horn. Like pale bone, it surrounded a blury, red center, that seemed to pulsate with energy and anger. Near the middle of the otherwise flawless, gem like protrusion was a chip, cracks leading away from the point of damage that were charged and smokey.

"You know one of the reasons...I wanted to come here, Jonah?" Ashton asked, not looking back, and keeping his unblinking eyes locked on the Grimm before him. "You see, I heard stories of the Grimm near the campus. Now, I've run into all sorts of Grimm in the wilderness, first bullet I ever fired was 'tween a Boarbatusks eyes..." he said, fingers slowly flexing. "But, now, The Unicorn, that's something else entirely..."

Sweat dripped down Jonah's brow, sliding down his cheeks, dropping off his chin. As the droplet hit the dirt, with a 'thump' that Jonah could swear echoed, he could see the Unicorn's tail twitch. "Ace, why's this so important? That thing could kill you, why can't we let this one go?" Jonah asked, fighting to keep himself from bolting. He'd heard horror stories of the Unicorn, seen pictures of its victims that could curdle milk, he couldn't fathom how Ashton could be that...that close to it wihout a twang of fear.

"'Cuz, pard'ner, I'm a cowboy," Ashton said with a grin, "I see a wild stallion, I just gotta rope it..." He swung his arm to the side, the lasso extending from his guantlet just as the Unicorn reared back and neighed, kicking its legs in the air while its horn glowed bright red. Its feet came down, cracking the stone beneath it as it charged, and its horn flashed bright red. Jonah saw something fly through the air, barely visible, just as he crossed his hammers in front of him to defend. He flew back, feeling a huge and hot gust of wind slash at the metal of his weapons, sending him sliding almost to the treel line. He groaned, but quickly got back up, rushing to Ashton.

The Unicorn seemed to favor impaling Ashton rather than blasting him with whatever attack he used on Jonah. Ashton kept his footing while the beast neared, eyes unwavering and set. At the last possible second, he dove to his right, his poncho catching the tip of the horn and was cut through like paper. Ashton yanked hard before the beast could turn around, as the lasso loop cleanly went over its neck and sapped tight. "Gotcha!" Ashton said, as his rope glowed orange.

The Grimm paused, looking at the rope leading from it to Ashton. Not confusd or perplexed, perhaps amused, it locked eyes with Ashton once more. Then it turned. And galloped.

Ashon was yanked along all too easily, but he knew it would never be that simple. dragged along the ground, he tried to right himself, but the Unicorn turned every time he tried pulling himself up, and kept unbalancing him. It looked back, almost maliciously, as Ashton could only hang on. Suddenly, Ashton found himself in the air, the beast had made a hard turn that swung Ashton up and-

*SLAM!!*

Through a rock at the base of the mountain. Ashton saw white, unprepared for the impact, but held onto his lasso. Hat lost in the crash, he forced a weak smile and shielded his face from the gravel he was being dragged through when he hit the ground again. "Sorry...buddy...gonna...take...more than...that!" he said, in between getting tossed around like a balloon. Against all odds, he started pulling himself closer to the Unicorn, in between the sharp turns which sent him through rocks and trees.

Jonah couldn’t do much besides chase after them, the beast was incredibly fast, and Ashton would likely not be able to hear his calls anyways. He caught something off the corner of his eye, though, behind the newly knocked down trees. A familiar face, and an unfamiliar one. Damn that guy…I’d better check on Naomi first, then I’ll have to go after him he thought, swinging his hammer and aiming for a jump to land near Naomi.

“Gaah!” Christophe yelled, as he and Lorelei arced through the air. “Why’d you do that?!” he screamed, trying to orient himself while he was falling, “We’re heading for the mountain! There’s no water to land in, no trees to grab onto, no ravine wall to claw into to stop us! It’s just a rock!”

“Then you better think hard on a way out, Mr. Boss. Or is imminent death too much pressure?” Lorelei asked, a devilish smirk on her lips. Her face, despite their situation, was cool and calm. She had complete faith in Christophe.

Christophe looked at her, shaking his head slightly. He looked down on the mountain, taking a deep breath, and exhaling slowly. His eyes darted around to scan below them, his mind racing for an idea. His eyebrows darted up, alert, as he spun in midair and grabbed his axe. He unfolded it to a bow, pulling back the cord as a red arrow of pulsating energy appeared at his fingertips. “Get your weapon ready, we’ll need it.” he said, firing off shot after shot to the rapidly approaching mountain below. The laser arrows hit the rock with sparks, crumbling part of the rockface into loose pebbles.

“What’s the plan?” she asked with a smile, setting “Silent Seduction” on her arm tightly. He transformed his bow back into an axe and handed it to her. “Okay, now what?” she asked, locking the gauntlet’s fingers around the handle.

He pointed where he shot, as the mountain grew closer. “I’ll aim for you, you fire the gauntlet’s grapple to it with the axe. It’ll dig in the ground, and use your soundwaves to destabilize the rock below. With the axe, it should knock a lot of the rock loose above the mountain…hopefully,” he said, patting her shoulder.

Lorelei lined up the arm, letting Christophe position it while asking, “And how will that save us, Chrissy?” She held her breath as she fired off the hand of her gauntlet, a tether from it flowing out from its arm as he flew, axe down, towards where Christophe aimed.

“There’s a cache right below us,” he said, checking the holo-display on his W.A.T.C.H. “It makes sense that this test will pit us against Grimm, and if the goal is to monitor how we do, then the only logical answer is that these ‘caches’ are somehow attached to them. I’m betting there’s a big one down there, or a lot of ones. Either way, it should make for a decent landing,” he said, watching his axe dig into the ground.

They were traveling very fast, and now about 30 seconds from hitting the ground. Lorelei wasted no time in activating her Semblance and the gauntlet, its hand causing the axe to vibrate violently and cause much of the rock below it to tremble. Cracks appeared, and dust flew from the surface as the whole thing began to shake. “And if we just crash into more rock?” Lorelei asked brightly.

Christophe shrugged, saying “I’ll come up with something when that happens,” he said dryly, bracing him and Lorelei for impact as the mountain loomed closer. He moved in front of her, tensing up as they made contact.

*CRASH*

The rockface broke apart as they hit, a huge dust cloud billowing from the impact spot. It wasn’t the softest landing, but better than if they just hit it straight on. They fell through the rock, tumbling and twirling, being knocked around by a stray piece of stone here and there. Christophe groped for his axe in the chaos, his hand finding it and keeping a hold while he heard more rock cracking beneath them.

The broke through something, an opening to a large cavern filled with water, and a few patches of rock scattered around like islands. While in midair, he grabbed for Lorelei, yanking her close before they hit, falling through the surface and sinking down. He twisted to place himself between her and the bottom, as his shoulder slammed into the rocky floor. Bubbles shot out of his mouth while he screamed in pain, gritting his teeth and kicking off to the surface once more.

Thankfully, Lorelei was conscious, helping him swim to a nearby rock, and helping him to climb on top of it. “Thanks, wow, that was fast,” she said, lying back and breathing heavily. She plucked her sunglasses from her face, as the crackled lens fell out onto the ground. “Whatever, they were out of style anyways,” she said, tossing it into the water. She didn’t bother covering her scarred eyes with anything, as she did around other people, a sign of her closeness to the group. She turned to Christophe, lying on his stomach and clutching his shoulder, and asked, “How’re you holding up, handsome?” She patted his shoulder, as he winced with a sharp intake of breath.

“Yeah, think I dislocated it in the fall, gah, it hurts,” he said, groaning as he rolled on his back. “Still,” he wheezed, giving a thumbs up, “Survived the fall, guess my plan worked,” he said with a pained grin. He strained himself to sit up, setting his arm in the leather strap on his chest that held his axe. “What do you think this place is?” he asked.

“Guess it’s an underground water system. I could see pretty clearly under there, even with us falling through the water, I could sense further than when I’m on land. There’s other water tunnels down there leading out into the terrain, I’m willing to bet that they link up with the lake. Maybe that’s where the ‘sinkholes’ on the island lead to,” she said, shrugging.

“Well,” Christophe said, groaning as he stood up, “We shouldn’t worry about that now, we better find that cache,” he said, looking at his W.A.T.C.H. “Looks like it moved, which doesn’t bode well, I didn’t see anything below us when we fell,” he said, looking to Lorelei. “By the way, um, not sure if it’s rude, but can you use you’re, you know, Watch?” he asked, as she chuckled.

“I can sense the hologram, it’s not always the clearest picture, but my soundwaves can bounce off the projection, and I can generally see what’s displayed. I can also sense what the display is showing beneath the screen, though sensing the hologram and display is obviously more difficult than a real thing,” she said with a smile, as their W.A.T.C.H.’s beeped in unison.

They both read, “Team CLASH”, as Lorelei shrugged. “Not bad, I guess, better than ‘Team Lacy,’” she said with a smile. Christophe chuckled, then went silent. “Eh, hey, what’re you looking at?” she asked, as he was staring out in the water.

“I dunno…something’s bright under there, it’s shining…” he said, looking at his map. “I think it’s the cache, let’s go get it,” he said, tightening his strap around his arm to keep it steady.

“Woah,” Lorelei said, grabbing his good shoulder. “We don’t know anything about this place, why don’t you make a plan first?” she asked, as Christophe took his shoulder away.

“I dunno, I just…I really want to get over there, right now. C’mon, let’s just go already!” he said, rushing over to wade in the water, using his good arm to swim to another rock island. Lorelei looked around nervously, slowly going into the water as well. She kept a watchful ear around them, ducking her head slightly below the water to make sure she could see under there clearly. She had a bad feeling about this, but Christophe usually had good ideas, so she tentatively followed his lead.

Reya smiled even brighter, glad to have the acceptance of her new partner. A ding resounded from their WATCH's, showing both of them as Team STORM. "Now that is a kickass name for two kickass ladies!" She said, obviously very thrilled about the new title. It seemed fitting, as well. With Reya's swift and deadly movements, and Sayuri's swordplay, they'd most definitely be a force to be reckoned with. As if reading her mind, Sayuri inquired about her fighting style. With her Aura, Reya set both of the Rings spinning in the air before her, before drawing them back into her palms. The same Aura protected her hands from the sharp blades. "Think of it like dancing. I use my Aura to manipulate my Rings, and deliver precise and efficient blows. They also turn into a piece of fashionable artillery. I'm sure I'll have to use it before the day's up." She listened in to the forest around her, the cacophony of battle all around them.

Looking down at the readout on the WATCH, Reya spotted several caches and students. The closest was one just a little ways south of them, in an open area around what looked to be a cave entrance. Another, near the Ravine, but it seemed like it couldn't make up it's mind about it's position. Some students were near two moving caches up north, one of them without a partner. It would get ugly if those caches were attached to Grimm. We wouldn't make it in time...we could even get stuck in the middle of a pack of Grimm. This forest is certainly full of them. The one near the Ravine seems iffy, so...

She looked up at Sayuri. "I'd say our best bet for a cache is a little South of here, outside the forest. It's in a more open area, so a fight there would be much easier for both of us. Given it's location, I'd wager that there's gonna be a welcome party. Shall we go?" Yet another rhetorical question, but an appropriate one. With a reassuring grin, Reya turned tail and began back-tracking, looking out for large roots and pools, and occasionally checking to see if Sayuri was still behind her. The action was about to start, and she couldn't have been more excited.

The world tilted as the tree started to fall. Grimm swarmed the base of the tree and now he had to jump. 'Great first falling from the sky, then a branch, and now the whole tree into a bunch of Beowolves' Tirren thought bitterly. The scene below him was not one of great situations. Grimm were everywhere and they seemed quite intent on adding him to their diet.

Sliding down the tree after his companion, he freed the grimoire from his side, acknowledging his partner's plan with a quick "I got it". Pushing off of the tree he leapt towards the Beowolves, in one hand his grimoire in the other the quill scribbling away in red ink. With a final flourish of the quill a wave of fire crashed into the Beowolves, follwed by Tirren with Fate's Quill now in rapier form.

Landing crouched in the middle of the Beowolves, he straightend his form Fate's Grimoire still in his other hand. Taking a deep breath Tirren centered himself and looked around. Close by were the scorched bodies of several Beowolves, and quite a few others nursing small burns. However, the alpha remained safe and sound behind his wall of lesser Grimm. Hearing his partner Tirren replied in a calm quiet voice "Of course, you good on your side?" Then shifting slightly he began to gather his aura as a shield just in case.

Around Tirren, the Beowolves circled, stepping over the corpses of their brothers. They snarled, jaws snapping and throwing spit with each chomp. From the tree, the rest of the pack turned to stalk towards Tirren as well, the boy's flame attack drawing more attention than Daiki's double slash on the two Ursa that were left.

The Alpha sneered, pleased with Tirren's landing spot, as he was surrounded on all sides. About ten Beowolves in all, not counting the Alpha, who stood behind the two rows of five that were dashing around Tirren. With a loud bark from the Alpha, three jumped at the Hunter-to-be, bouncing back with a whimper when they hit his shield, although he had to react quickly to block them all. They were knocked back, but not injured, as they shook their heads and joined their brothers again, waiting for the tiniest opening before attacking once more.

Jack gave an offhanded thumbs up at Tarkus' request for cover as she ventilated another Vampire Bat. "Be my guest." The sooner they could get past these small fries and move on to the cache, the better; if Tarkus had a plan to get past them without wasting time, she was all ears.
