Civilization Name: The Jiq Republic
Member of the Galactic Conclave?: No
Species Name: Yn'grol
Basic Description of Civilization: The Yn'grol have an unsavory reputation they have more than earned. This cunning race has carved out a niche for themselves in shady dealings and back door business on the galactic market. The majority of their civilization has essentially piggybacked on other galactic society and thrives off the need for dealers in unsavory and often downright illegal business. The Yn'grol are many things including but not limited to: slippery politicians, bloodthirsty lawyers, untouchable bankers, confidential smugglers, ghost-like cyber spies and mediums between the legal and the less so. They provide their services to other races in all manner of areas from levying financial weight to bribing on behalf of those who can't afford to be caught bribing and from helping corporate bigwigs exploit loopholes in contracts with their business partners to outright cyber spying for politicians to get dirt on their rivals. For all their shady dealings, Yn'grol are rarely pinned down by the law as they are notoriously good at covering their tracks. They have the dirtiest clean grasping appendages in all the galaxy.
A notable strong point of the Yn'grol civilization is its adaptability; like a parasite with a broad range of hosts. If their business with one race suffers, it will deal a blow to them but will not be catastrophic as they can still thrive off other races. This facet of their civilization is, however, a double-edged sword. The traits that make their civilization so adaptable are also weaknesses. Feeding off the resources of other species has led to very advanced transport systems, but a lacking in their own production and resource gathering. The Yn'grol also have a comparative lack of territory as they do not really need it as they acquire most of their goods and materials from other species.
Interestingly enough, the Yn'grol have very little in the way of an official military. War is not unknown to them but war in the conventional sense is a practice that faded from their society long ago. Wars for the modern Yn'grol people are not fought by soldiers armed with guns and commanded by generals, but by bankers armed with hackers and commanded by wealthy business owners. The ceaseless corporate infighting within their society has resulted in arms races of politics and cyber weapons that has made the Yn'grol civilization as a whole nigh untoucable in cyberspace and in the galactic courtroom, but their real weakness shows on the battlefield. Yn'grol cargo transports may be armed and guarded but these defenses are almost all privately owned and would be almost impossible to organize into anything resembling a cohesive military. These security forces are merely a deterrent for piracy and are individually not prepared to handle any serious offensive by hostile civilizations; offensives in the physical world anyway.
