Lord Wraith Actually Three Otters in a Trenchcoat

Right? Like Priya may actually want another complaint.

The thing is...Priya likes her job. So being away for a month would bother her, especially dealing with her sister's case still. Being on desk duty is a pretty big slap on the wrist for her.

She, of course, will still do what she feels is best.

I mean, I don't expect Priya to stay at a desk haha. I fully expect her to defiantly sneak into the field to do what she feels is best.

I hope so, because Joseph is going to need an ally on the force when he dons the cowl and Archie is always looking for a way to see the forensic evidence haha

@Lord Wraith Just a heads up that I'm going to be editing Tobias' sheet to include some relationships and probably expand upon his skills gained from his Black Lotus training.

G M A N N O U N C E M E N T:

UPDATE: The IC has been updated and the new round of seconday plots are now live. Have fun people! Any questions be sure to let me know.

WEEK 05: Last week, we talked about being bad. So this week lets talk about those darn goody-two-shoes types. Why are people drawn to being good? What exactly is it that makes playing a hero appealing, and what makes a good hero? How dark can a hero be while still being good and how light can a hero be before they're unbearable? What are some of the heroic archetypes you look to when designing your defenders of truth, justice and the American Way liberty?

OH LOOK, discussion topic I almost missed!

Begin Utrax Rambling:
SO Heroes! Well. I think I hinted at it in my villain post but, a protagonist is someone's antagonist, no matter how good they are.
I've personally played heroes that went from "snipe out people that are going to prison because they deserve death rather than a prison sentence" to "I literally wouldn't hurt a fly if it were possible."

People are drawn to playing the hero because most narratives focus around heroes-- people are "supposed" to want the good guy to win. A lot of my friends and I have discussed this topic and they seem to like playing good guys because they want to be "on the right side", they want to be a good person, or they simply can't "be that evil."

Personally, my favorite heroes are those who are fighting for what they believe in, remember where they came from, and fight for the "little guy" every now and then. Captain America is my favorite hero, if that gives a better sense of who I like, especially since it wasn't just him gaining super powers that made him a good guy-- he's always been a good person.

That being said, I still lean more toward playing anti-heroes, villains, or people that are able to shift across the spectrum simply because of what they believe in. There's something about conviction and motive that I like any character to have. As long as it's what drives their intentions and actions, they're always A-OK in my book.

@Superboy Sorry about the wait for that. Truth be told, I wasn't sure how Lisa was going to react to Noctis' appearance, or how I could get it too mesh with the progression I had in mind for the character. Finally settled though, and I shouldn't take that long to respond again.

@Lurking Shadow Cheers. I mean, I wasn't really looking for a game recommendation, just making a throwaway joke, but still, nice of you to offer one.

[cynical]Why are people drawn to being good, or find good characters so appealing? Because we're all flawed in real life.[/cynical]

@BlackSam3091It was just on my mind at the time. Can't wait for Call of Cthulhu: The official game (different developer, likely will have nothing to do with DCotE unless it uses source material from the Shadow Over Insmouth).

If you still want someone to make you feel less nerdy, PM me and I'll start discussing things like Quantum Physics or Machine learning.

Why are people being drawn to being good? A bit vague of a question, I assume you mean a 'thwart villainous plan' good and not 'donate to charity' good. If that is the case then it likely is because they can't stand villains or want to protect others.

As for character types I like to use, I generally stick in between good and evil. Something like 'the ends justify the means'/'for the greater good' kinda person as sometimes controversial decisions need to be made in order to secure peace/prosperity/etc. It's more grounded in reality that way than solving a crisis with little to non-existent negative results. Such as with Fatman and little boy, or the atomic bombs dropped on Nagasaki and Hiroshima respectively. It was a quick and less deadly end to the war than the alternative, Operation Downfall.

Q: Are you trying to get Vernon burned to a crisp?
A: Maybe.

Lounges.
Anyway, I hope everyone is having a good week and if not, I hope it gets better!
It's great writing this story with all y'all and I hope our characters get to interact eventually!
Before Vernon is a pile of ash hopefully.

Might happen sooner rather than eventually as I am also writing in the same plot (whatever it was called, the edge of darkness?). Maybe our characters could exchange war stories. Would give me an opportunity to develop mine's backstory a bit. Would show why he acts the way he does sometimes.

Are you still open to submissions? In the OCC thread you'd cut it off at twenty but I don't have a good idea on who is active or not, either way I'm fine with warming the bench.

Alrighty, I'll try to fill out an application for that last Hellion spot. Lets see how I can make a lycanthrope into an interesting character. If all else fails I could just make a Boogeyman or something. We'll see.

I'd much rather interact with pile of ash Vernon. I think that scenario is ripe for character interaction.
