@Raddum My friend you seem slightly perturbed. Perhaps even upset. As if you feel I have disrespected your street gang or dishonored your dojo. Such disrespect requires retaliation of course. And thus here we are, trading snarky remarks over the internet while the micro lynch mob grows.

That raises the question. Do I:
A: Ignore you until you forget and go away.
B: Phone in the long ass explanation post to appease you.
C: Pretend to apologize.
D: Tell you all to go fuck yourselves.
E: Make snarky comments back (obviously I lean slightly toward this option ;-P ).
F: Explain why I don't want to write a really long and detailed post and getting dragged into a multi-page argument that will no doubt involve a grand amount of passive aggressive remarks, snark and barely veiled insults because there is nothing in it for me?
You guys (and galls?) aren't going to be open to what I have to say. You are already angry. You aren't really interested in my perspective; you just want to bait me into putting myself out there to give you a target to beat up on because you feel disrespected by someone who you feel is beneath you in the RPG hierarchy. The group mind has decided I'm guilty before I even present my case. So why not skip bail and save myself a lot of energy, time and verbal punishment?

If I thought you lot were actually interested I might put in the effort to oblige your request. I say might because I am a person too with my own interests and preferred ways to waist time on the internet and to be honest if I find it is more interesting to chat with another friend or catch up on a TV show I would do that instead. I don't really feel any obligation to explain my bitching in the bitching thread and I wouldn't even if we were all on friendly terms. Which, does not seem to be the case, I must say lol.

And you know what? It's totally cool. I do understand where your feelings are coming from. Plus this kinda thing is just part of being on the internet. Sometimes your the windshield, sometimes your the bug lol.

I like option G, the one where you admit that you are all hot air.

Also, I'm pretty sure your deduction that everyone is mad or offended is largely incorrect. I know it is incorrect when describing my feelings. I just do not believe your original comment has any fundamental evidence, which will be correct unless you do reveal the foundation of your beliefs.

"I'll write a long, detailed post explaining to them that I don't care enough about their opinions to bother writing the long, detailed post which they want me to write. That'll learn 'em.

"Also I'll morally proselytize in the process."

huh

@Kratesis This is all cool and all, but I still don't know why you think not a single change can fix the guild.

EDIT: I mean, if you don't want to say it in public, at least PM it to me. I'll be gone for enough days for the topic to stop being relevant, anyway.

You seem to be enjoying deflecting the actual criticism and proving the fact that you really have no relevant evidence to back up your argument. It's really ridiculous.

This is a misrepresentation of my position. I don't feel the Guild is broken. The Guild appears to be doing well. I feel that there are several problems within group RPs that cause them to have a poor success rate.

Because there is more than one problem I can't think of a single individual change that would address all of reasons why group RPs have a low success rate. If ten parts on a car wear out replacing one part won't fix the entire car. The issue is more complex than that. Not every group RP fails for the same reason. Nor do all group RPs that fail to complete do so for a single reason; most are fighting against pressures from multiple fronts and eventually the forces that drive the RP forward are no longer sufficient.

If there were just one problem someone would have solved it by now.

jesus christ, now we're even managing to be retarded in the bitch thread of all places. does it really fucking matter if one dude is being condescending about their opinion towards the rps here? no. it doesn't. give their post a laugh and move on; don't all dog pile on them because oh dear lord! someone has a different opinion to the majority!

also, kratesis, don't see this as me taking your side, because i'm not. those cancerous impact font memes make me want to kill myself.

and just to keep it on topic: i hate when people get all stressed out over someone's opinion on the internet.

Going back into the "intro; yey or ney?" Discussion, I want to put in my two cents that something I found to be a good compromise was starting off the game a few weeks after the characters first met and simply frame it that they know each other well enough to work together but there's still a lot they have to learn about each other personally that can be fleshed out between, or even during, assignments. This lets you get the story moving at a decent pace and still gives players a lot of room to develop relationships and personal story arc.

Really, the key for anything is just keep the story moving. The games that get caught up on one or two things are the ones that burn.

My feelings about the "intro: yay or nay?" discussion is that there is no one size fits all answer. I'm currently running a Danganrona fan RP. Most of the characters don't really know much about each other aside from what they might have read on the internet about them, if they were even inclined to do that much. But the whole point about Danganronpa is that you don't really know anyone, and anyone can turn into a killer under the right circumstances. having unfamiliarity and mistrust is all part of the fun. If my goal was to write a story about a gathering of super friends coming together to beat up "the dark one," then maybe it would have been more convenient for everyone to be childhood friends so that I could skip past early character development and get straight to the monster killing.

Though I'll be honest, I joined a role play and got shoveled into a battle with a huge GM controlled monster right off the bat. I was a bit miffed that I didn't have time to flesh out my character. Rather than being exited that I got to the "exciting part", I felt like it was an obstacle I had to take care of so that I could continue developing my character. Perhaps the moral of the story is that we all want different things, and what we want really dictates how we'd like our first few posts to come out.

It sure is nice to weed out fickle players.

I say this knowing this will get a degree of salt, since this is an open forum, but it is really interesting seeing how the cards fall.

Is it really weeding out fickle players when they announce their leave because the GM has been neglecting a roleplay?

Follow-up question: is this the right thing to do when someone voices their reasons for bowing out to you for future reference?

That entirely depends on your definition of “neglecting” a thread, I suppose. It would be important to understand context and actual communicate with the GM if they are actually neglecting their work that they put a lot of effort into rather than making assumptive deductions. But to answer your question, yes, it is weeding out fickle players who have no dedication to an admittedly slowly paced collaborative project. Perhaps it would be more agreeable for players to contact a GM rather than creating their own narrative.

Also, I don’t buy into the idea that I shouldn’t be allowed to state my frustrations in a thread designed for it just because I’m an active GM and people [former players] can see what I’m posting. If they feel it disheartening, it is understandable and I should recognize the consequences of that action. There is really no argument about that. To elaborate on my first sentence, I don’t subscribe to supposed moral beliefs if something is or isn’t the “right” thing to do because they are absolutely subjective. You are welcome to disagree in the discussion of free thought on it, but it will not change what I am doing and will continue to do.

Yes.

I made no allusions or communicated ideas that any project I do is going to be a quickly-paced endeavor. However, sometimes engagements throw planned schedules out of rotation, yes. Many people including myself are guilty of saying suggestions of posting schedules to only actually get around to something in several days or even a week.

Man I got a lot of stress and stuff to get off my chest. From work stress, to life stress, to RP stress, to the stress of being stressed. I just want to vent and relax and not feel anxious about strangers judging me.

Then I look in this topic.

Everyone's getting mad at a vent thread.
