I always submit the first draft and then edit out the mistakes.

I have been a GM for a few roleplays not on this site. But what annoys me most is when people don't bother reading the rules or the plot and blatantly break half of the rules I imposed. And I can usually tell they didn't read the rules because I usually put in a password in the rules. I put a fake-out password and then the real password further down the rules list, and then request that the applicants remove their passwords once they're accepted. 90% of the time the people who didn't read the rules put the fake-out password. It bugs me to no end when that happens, especially since that sets of rules I impose are about a minute-long read.

A password system is stupid, I won’t join a collaborative effort with one. That said, people should obviously read the rules and the lore of the setting. Being complacent is no excuse if you want to create a good writing relationship.

@UmbreonRogue I used to use the password system, but I realized that was more annoying than anything.

Now, I just let people look dumb when they eventually break a rule. lol

I usually find that password systems actually get people to at least read more closely through the rules, and I usually warn people that did get the correct password right if they break a rule later down the road. Though I've only used this method on sites with more people that don't bother with reading the rules like over at Pokefarm Q. I kid you not, when I was looking through various RP Set-Ups, one of the guys made an application for a Shiny Luxray when the rules stated only Unova Pokemon. Seeing as there seems to be more experience people I probably won't use the password system as much.

You are going to get those people with or without the password system. Maybe you should more concisely police their sheets than making arbitrary rules that turn off writers of some degree of quality.

Just sayin'.

Maybe people drop out of roleplays because we all get hung up on the introductions, which are boring as fuck?

You are correct. That isn't the only thing wrong with the Guild style group RPs which have one of the worst success rates I have ever seen but it is big contributor.

Ultimately though the Guild way of doing group RPs is so broken that no single change will fix them. But that isn't what people want to hear.

Make a separate thread detailing why you think this, because now I'm really fuckin' curious as to why you think this.

I am also curious, though I suspect it is one hundred percent biased.

But what do I know about role-playing on message boards, I've only been doing it for sixteen years.

That's the one thing that I dislike about this site. There are MANY people on here who can or do post really good posts, put time and effort into it,and build complex stories throughout the roleplay. On other sites that I'm on my pool of roleplaying friends is low because there aren't that many people who can do those things and just want to post a simple, short story whereas I prefer long, drawn out and complex stories. but the one downside here is that not that many roleplays make it that far-usually they'll last a few months with a dozen posts before they die. I had one that only lasted a month at the most. I wish it wasn't so because I have so,SO many ideas that I'd like to share but I'm afraid that it won't get far.

While I do agree that players should give their input on things like posts, sheets, etc (An RP is a community project after all), there's a fine line between providing input, and just policing someone else' RP.

For something 'People don't want to hear', you sure don't want to explain yourself. If you want us to buy your stuff you gotta sell it first.

I like my roleplayers. But some that are inactive and have obvious reasons for joining that feel way too shallow. Another thing being the obvious fantasizing over one of my characters. Tailoring a character in hopes to intertwine your characters story with mine in a weirdly intimate way, then disappear when i decline is shallow and lame.
