Oh yeah Konami isn't the primary one to blame imo. But I kind of feel like they have some indirect responsibility, 80 million or no Kojima didn't even want to make another game in the series and like you said with the expansive worlds with nothing of note in them and really a plot that overall doesn't really need to exist in the grand scheme of things it really shows. I mean, with the Ocelot thing and other questionable choices there is some excuse for it, but it feels less like a major plot element having validity and more like it's there just so the point itself isn't entirely nonsense. It's more that it's a game that has a lot of tools to be great, I'd argue the gameplay is probably the smoothest MGS has ever been but from a story and emotional standpoint everything feels either cardboardy and tacked on (killing the infected soldiers really didn't even come close to hitting me with the emotional punch as much as furiously tapping X through the microwave hallway) or they're just not there.

It's just the games good points that annoy me more for that reason. Like I love seeing Venom show Eli why Big Boss is the master of CQC, or just that scene with Ocelot echoing the words Big Boss taught him in 3, if there was at least more of that I could enjoy my experience more and empathize more with the cast.

MGSV struck me as more of an over-ambitious title than one he flat out didn't want to make, but I can't remember the last time Kojima didn't say that whatever MGS game he was working on was going to be his last one, so maybe he really lost enthusiasm this time around. I'd be tempted to break out the world's smallest violin for this whole dilemma where this extremely well-known and respected developer just has to keep coming back and making games with an incredible amount of creative control in an incredibly successful and renowned series, but I do tend to bitch a lot about how From Software used to have a lot more variety in their game lineup before Souls hit it big, so I guess I'd be kind of a hypocrite. I'd personally prefer it if all that time and money went into, say, Zone of the Enders 3, but I often wonder how many of those who bring up Kojima being kinda forced to work on MGS share my enthusiasm for that series (or Kojima's other work in general) or even bought them. MGS games kept getting made because they sold well, and that never really happened with anything else he made, at least in comparison.

I disagree, I think there was actually a lot of potential in MGSV's plot to finally justify that incredibly dumb twist in 4 and a couple of stupid things in Peace Walker, and it does! In casette tapes that randomly appear in the inventory at the end of the game that of course got played in the trailers like they would factor into the plot in some meaningful way... Well, I guess we still got to listen to everyone prattle on about vocal chord parasites like nanomachines never went out of style. Talk about a lack of priorities.

All I know for sure is that I'm finding it pretty difficult to jump on the Death Stranding hype train after taking a ride on MGSV's.

I will say I do have no love for Konami at this point but I think it was more a gradual thing rather than him just saying that at this point "I don't want to make any more." I mean, MGS4 capped the series off pretty nicely imo even if there was a few lingering holes which may have stuck around but over the years of resources and control over the same game I can see someone getting disenfranchised, like the opposite problem of having a lack of resources, having tonnes along with higher expectations and more people to please each time can probably take it out of you over time. Regardless of the reasoning (And because we've taken up most of the OOC page with essays about Metal Gear lol) MGSV is just a very flawed game to me, it's for sure the weakest of the series and whilst I was interested with the idea of the story it really didn't measure up. I'd have loved for so many of those tape recordings to be animated for even more cut-scenes, if there's a lack of them outside on the field then at least put more into Mother Base instead, feel like you're doing stuff by expanding your knowledge on who you're working with (Just for example Ocelot's story on how he got the nickname Shalashaska)

The Midge Ure cover of Man Who Sold The World was pretty good tho

@KaiserElectric I'm a bit short on time at the moment, but Inanna might be good for that.

Sounds good, sorry for a late response, I thought I replied to this. >.<

As you can tell of course, I'm a bit short on time as well. :P

I don't wanna take up more space with essays so I'll trim myself down and say that MGS2 had a lot of points where characters in the same room would switch on the codec and convey a scene primarily through audio much like the tapes, but they were still laced pretty tightly into the part of the story that we're going through, so they still felt meaningful (at least to me, I know people still like to shit on that game a lot lol). MGSV put a lot of emphasis on this whole "player avatar" idea with Venom but I never associate with him the way I did with BB due to so much of his story being told in this weird cassette tape dimension that happens completely offscreen.

It's fine, for what it's worth my schedule isn't nearly as tight now.

Unfortunately, if the current collabs aren't finished by next Monday, I'm going to start the tournament anyway. We lulled more than long enough.

Obnoxious mass mention (number... five?)!

I've been thinking about this a little bit, and I'm considering changing the title of the roleplay. I was thinking of taking "World Warriors" out, and just keeping it as The Nomadic Fist. It was supposed to be a cheeky shoutout to Street Fighter, but I think that, in the long run, the RP might stand out better with it being Nomadic Fist.

Unless you guys have a suggestion for a better name than The Nomadic Fist because that honestly makes it sound like a wuxia movie. lol

I'm fine with or without the change but I have to admit that the plain Nomadic Fist sounds punchier as a title, pun intended.

World Warriors sounds more like a sequel. I say we change it to The Nomadic Fist.

Change it to Road Rumblers instead :^)

Honestly though, I don't care, I think the title works either way.

I do kind of like this sort of globe-spanning cast we've got going, and I think that the World Warriors part of the title does a nice job of drawing attention to that idea, but I'm not especially attached to it and I don't think it really matters that much.
