@TwelveOf8Is this really all coming from the spam thread? i've never actually looked there but I always assumed it was a lighthearted place where everyone made jokes and thread games. I cant see why anyone would argue over non serious topics>
It's kinda a shame because I would like to discuss politics from time to time. I clicked this thread because of Le Pen/Macron and the French elections but looking for a real discussion doesn't seem practical considering the thread so far.
@Dynamo Frokane Yeah that's true.
Well you aren't wrong. The internet is filled with libertarians who just discovered Ayn Rand and grew their first neckbeard lol. They are typically insufferable. Then there is the business class of libertarian which is more of a heroic identity. I have a fondness for the libertarians intellectual wing myself. I enjoy logical rigor and I usually only get that from libertarians and marxists. I think I missed the meme stuff? I wasn't even aware there were libertarian and communist memes before I started hanging out on the Guild again. It's really new to me.
@Dynamo Frokane There is a class of entrepreneurs, businessmen and other such corporate types who are into Ayn Rand. It does have to do with low taxes of course but it also gives them a heroic identity. I don't know if you have read Atlas Shrugged or any of Ayn Rand's other novels but they offer the idea of the creator as a heroic individualist, stoically bearing the weight of those jealous of their success and others who want to use the power of government (and social ties) to leach off their wealth. While bearing these burdens the heroic creator forges ahead with a vision only they can see until their vision is made real by their long and difficult struggle.
There is a lot more too it but that's the gist of things.
@Vilageidiotx From what I've read of Ayn Rand she envisioned the heroic protagonist as the opposite of the divinely empowered monarch.
