@Guru Vordak was a perfect gentlemen and has some ideas I thought were quite good! Don't blame him hehee. I just didn't realize the tournament was for elemental powersets only when I originally wanted to join! It's my own fault for not paying enough attention :-)

Aw, shucks. You can always go full on oldschool though: put up an open challenge in the arena chat or interest checks and just fight the first person who agrees. :^)

@rocketrobie2

Shoot me a PM with any ideas you have for your charcter; if you've already got a feel for what playstyle you want, that's even better. Lets make it a statement to all the other fighters: someone's getting punched in the face, no matter what. preferrably Guru.

Elemental powers aren't actually that limiting. Lots and lots of possibility. That's why we chose it actually. It's something simple, because most arena fighters have had experience with a elemental user at some point, without getting Into the complexities of other powers that linger on the realm of questionable. But it's also very VERY versatile and can be unique in it's own way, as I'm sure my trainee is figuring out.

I wish you wouldn't drop out on that basis alone. But, I guess if you aren't feeling it, you aren't feeling it. I hope you are still willing to give the arena a try though. And even if you don't win, you can learn so much.

@Guru I watched Avatar: The Last Airbender and just based on that I'm pretty familiar with what can be done with elemental powers! They seem hugely versatile. But they aren't really my 'thing' so far as interest in writing them goes, that's all. So it isn't that I think elements are lesser or boring or anything like that! Elements are badass. It's just as a writer elements aren't my thing.

Adressing Worren the fire ninjer, afaik, the character sheet format is weapon/element/side element, meaning that the shuriken summoning and whatnot is a seperate category of special weapon abilities.

I'll address the full post when I get home, but Worren doesn't create the weapons. He summons them with hand signs and runes. Think Naruto ninja summon scrolls.

I still don't understand. I mean sure, he summoned the weapon. While it may not be earth magic, it still doesn't seem like fire magic. clearly utility powers are okay, but at which point have we gone too far with them?

I wanted to say, in reference to mentors and students fighting, Each Mentor will definitely take different approaches. We all have different styles and ways in which we do things. Honestly... no 2 people will probably be taught the same way. But, that is the way of the Arena. It is very diverse as far as perspectives go.

That works too. it's not just the new combatants, but their teacher's methods that are being tested!

<Snipped quote by BrokenPromise>

If you want. I can go over the sheet for you. This may be worth your while, as creating stories is a large part of what we do and there js a lot of fun to be had in creating your own, as well as being involved in the evolution of someone else's character.

Competition is our lifeblood. Really. But we have learned to make our fights exciting. Me and Guru, for instance, have a story built up over years of interacting anf it's mainly still all competition between us, to try and have the top family. And it's the same in some respects for us all.

Also, I am throwing my name in as.

A participant. #cheatmode.

Wait. Guru just informed me that I am not allowed. But I can mentor.

Oh you silly nilly, trying to pass as a contestant.

But yes, rollplaying is all about interaction. While I haven't done the arena fight thing yet, impacting each other's characters and ongoing stories come with the territory. There's just no competitive element.

Anyway, I'm kind of curious as to what you'd say about my character, and I'm sure it would be a good learning experience for everyone. So I'll just post her here. And yes, she's another glass cannon type. We don't really have enough of those. That last bit was sarcasm.

There is some placeholder information in there, but it's more or less ready for your scrutiny.

Ironically, a strong offense is great for turtling, as it works excellent to keep your opponent at bay. Courtesy of Melonhead, this lesson is.

And vice-versa: a strong defense allows you to sh*t on your opponent's attacks and jump in balls first to open up a can of whoopass in their face. That's one of my own observations.

Whoever wants to go full on brawl-style and just punch/kick/wrestle people in their faces, i'll be happy to be their mentor.

I've made a small alteration to my character that, should I join, will make me easily overcome anything Vordak's disciple can throw at me.

@BrokenPromise

As far as Worren, other of my characters like him, have similar abilities. Trent, Levius, Derik, and one other, all specialize in an element/weapon combo. For Trent, it would be the size/weight/length manipulation of staffs and earth/metal manipulation.

So for Worren, hr specialized in ninja weapons, and can use runes to summon them.

For the character, it's actually a pretty well drawn out character. For the purposes of the tournament, I would probably limit it to just heating things instead of cooling them, provided there isn't a definitive level she can cool them too, because it can easy toe the line of ice creation and whatnot. As well as ask if there was any more enchantments she can use to avoid 'batmanning', which is essentially the act of pulling stuff out of your ass on the basis of 'there are others (s)he can use, but aren't listed.' The arena is really particular on knowing what all a character is capable of to avoid such situations.

Outside of the tournament though, it would be a good character to have.

It's a good starter character, really fit for the tournament. Could probably add more abilities to the magic side.

@Rilla I'm just saying that from my understanding on the first page, all magic was suppose to suppose to come from the element and "side element." This was largely because all of Worren's magic was, well, fire based. It wasn't until I took a closer look at the ability section and realized it wasn't for non-magical skills, but magic that wasn't fire based. Hence why "enchanter" is Aer's only real magical skill in that area. it wasn't untill maybe the second or third time looking over Worren's sheet that I noticed he didn't have any non-magical skills like that, save maybe hand gestures.

in regards to her ability to cool things, there is no definitive point, except that maybe she can't freeze things solid. But I figured you'd have a problem with a fire/ice character, which is why I used a little more creativity and gave Aer "Magma slide" instead of "glacier slide." But I would like to note that as someone who loves the science behind magic, this is what I find so infuriating about elemental magic. It is versatile, but it's hard (emphasis: not impossible) to make a bunch of unique people with it unless you push the boundaries a little bit. In nature the elements get mixed all the time. Is a volcano earth or fire elemental? A tornado is basically hot and cold air mixing, so isn't it technically fire and wind elemental? Would you consider a steam based attack water or fire elemental? I'm genuinely curious.

As far as "batmanning" goes, I think I stated pretty clearly what her limitations were on enchanting. I guess we could make it so that she could enchant small areas and objects, just to clear up the fact that she can't enchant and entire building and make it go kablooie. The only thing she can really do with an enchanted object is heat it up, cool it down, or make it or the air around it explode. She can only cast fire spells from her catalysts, which are her spear, gloves, and shoes. Thus, you don't have to worry about a broken bottle suddenly launching a fireball or a hundred grains of sand firing a cone of flame from every direction. Did that make sense?

Worren's only real other magic is summoning his weapons. As opposed to Trent, who manipulates his staves to be small, and wearable on a necklace, or Derik whose body is made up of chains.

He can't, for instance, use the gestures to generate electricity with hand seals. They are just his chosen method of employing fire.

You are right, I would. The tournament is designed to give people a simple ay of manipulating things, such as Worren with Fire and heat, they can be closely related, same with Earth and Metal.

The real motivation behind Worren and his ilk. Is that they all manipulate a element, a closely related side element, and can manipulate their chosen weapons.

Element characters can be unique, however. As an example, me and you would use the same element/side in different fashions. Worren wouldn't create magma, or use heat to propel himself. Lots of people use fire and such in different ways. I have a combustion character who employs explosions to speed himself up.

As for your question, I would personally lean volcano for fire, air for tornado(you aren't using the tornado to break off into icicles), and steam, I would probably lean towards air, but that's just me as well. My air character, whose name I forget but uses nunchaku, manipulates Air/Ash, so I would consider steam not being too far fetched. Probably couldn't create it,b it could control it. Others may have a completely different view of it. In a tournament of this ilk, but perhaps not configured for newcomers, those things can be expanded to fit in other elements, actually, in this one if done properly, I would probably allow it not good argument was made.

It made sense.

I'm sorry to say I'm going to be backing out. I'm going to be working on a roleplay idea I have, and I anticipate it'll take up just about all of the time I allow myself for writing. I wish you guys the best of luck though.

No problemo, check in again if you have the time to learn some arena-ing.

Rilla, might want to do a roll-call, see if there's still enough players.
