*At about 6 feet tall, Kian is tall in comparison to most of his fellow islanders. He can be considered of medium build, though clearly not as strong as his older brother Mirza. His wardrobe is a lot more relaxed, with tunics and trousers that are comfortable to wear and not at all a reminder of his nobility.
Kian Izohir
26 years
Though his brother is a man of honor and pretty much your typical goody-two-shoes king, Kian is easily the mischievous, rebellious younger sibling that most nobles must ignore. Though he is a prince, he doesn’t really act like it in front of others. He’s very easy-going and warm, with a mouth that can run on for long periods of time. He tries his hardest to make the most of his life and enjoy it, so he will sneak away from duties at the castle with his ability and goof off, playing the role of someone else and interacting with the townspeople. Even so, he’s a loyal man who is always easy to befriend. He’s forward with his ideas and always says what he thinks, sometimes landing him in trouble.
But at the same time, Kian tends to fib when it’s convenient and it’s hard to notice when he does it. He always feels guilty for it, but sadly he can’t help it and usually tries to keep it up instead of coming out with the truth. Along with this is ability to fake how he feels, which makes it hard to keep friends for a long period of time.
Born as the second son to the royal family, Kian often found himself in second place. His older brother, Mirza (who differed with him in age by about five years), was given a little more attention and rigorous work to shape him into a well-suited successor to the throne. For many of his earlier years, the younger boy was swept with jealousy. In his mind’s eye, he saw this attention as a means to get closer with his parents and relatives and he craved that same sort of regard from those around him. But as he entered his teens, Kian realized he definitely did not care for the responsibility and stress that weighed down on his brother’s shoulders. Besides, he wasn’t the type to lead people, so he hung at the back of these training sessions, relaxed and amused.
When his parents were both stricken with severe illness and passed, Mirza was to undergo his crowning ritual and part of it was to be done in the shrine. Those of closest relation to the prince were allowed in, so Kian went into the damp, dim caverns with Mirza, simply a torch and glistening crown in hand. Inside, at the altar where glowing runes etched the surface of the rock, they followed the ritual according to how it was written and practiced. The torch’s light blinked out and the last word’s utterance, replaced with the sound of a low, quaking grumble. They could not see what was happening, yet simply knew they needed to run out of the shrine before anything else happened to them. While scrambling out, a roar rang in their ears and they found themselves slashed across the eyes (Kian’s left, Mirza’s right) before reaching safety. Ever since then, the two have hid what happened a secret, claiming only falling rock and a tumble as the reason for their scars.
- Bow and arrow, staff combat: He is deadly accurate with his bow, practicing in trees and on targets in his spare time. But for close range, he can only make due with a polearm or staff.
- Shapeshift: Though he uses this ability often, Kian almost always gets away with it so many don’t know that he can do it. He takes on appearances of beings he has seen (animal or human), but people close to him can see through it and recognize him (mostly Mirza, though Kian doesn’t know how he knows).
- Stealth: He is capable of hiding in shadows and stilling his breath, lightening his steps and striking when one’s guard is down. This, paired with his marksmanship, allows him to have the upper hand in most fights.
Strengths: Kian is clear-headed and relatively unstressed most of the time which allows him to be rational and empathetic. He is usually one who is approached about disputes, as he often hears both sides and deliberates with the least amount of bias on due consequences. His personality often calms others down and may even bring about smiles when least expected. Kian is also surprisingly good at putting up a poker face, shielding what he truly thinks with a lie. His liar’s tongue is a gift and a curse, as he uses it many times but, when caught, it tends to bear a lot of consequence that he can only sheepishly smile at in embarrassment.
Weaknesses: Other than his lies, Kian tends to be quick to anger, especially with matters close to him. If he finds someone aggravating, he will not be afraid to tell them so. The lack of a filter on his assertive, direct persona tends to harvest a bad reputation that can only be mended by his brother. He is vocal about his opinions and can’t help but speak his mind when he believes it justified. Yet what hurts him most is betrayal from those he trusts most, which hurts and disheartens him to no end.

*Her hair is chopped to just below her shoulders, with layers that feather outwards. She stands are about 5 feet 7 inches in height with a surprisingly trim figure. She’s shapely, but obviously not such that it hinders her fighting ability. She dresses often in guard uniform, with tunics and leather armor (the formal occasions often called for real metal garb).
Emer Kartal
28 years
One usually shouldn’t judge a book by its cover, but Emer is definitely an outlier in that case. She’s as tough as she seems, an infinite amount of willpower driving her every movement. Though not very friendly to others, she is generous with her time and serves people when she can. She stretches herself thin to get things done, but doesn’t think too much about whether she’s being used or not. Taught always to be kind, Emer does what she can to make up for her gruff appearance.
If considered a close friend, Emer is a lot more open to conversation. She’s very headstrong and a little bit cocky, but her heart’s in the right place most of the time. Her love for her family can be seen whenever she speaks about her brothers or mother often, as her face softens and her eyes light up in excitement. But when she’s tired from working too hard, she can become irate and closed-off. She tries not to mind much when something hurtful happens to her, but she lets out her frustration on others unfairly without meaning to.
Emer’s family consists of herself, her mother, her grandmother, and two siblings (both younger boys). Her father passed due to an accident while fishing, his main occupation. Her mother was a seamstress and often worked for the royal family. However, Emer was never really interested in that line of work. No, she always saw herself working in the castle as a guard. So when time came that she could go into training, she did so. Emer excelled in the training, both physically and mentally. It was helpful to be naturally gifted in strength, but she would always hold herself back so as not to hurt others. Quickly enough, she was a high-ranked guard, providing for her family through her earnings and benefits. Her scar comes from a very sick and scared creature that she crossed paths with when she was a teen, whose delirious, infected claws raked her face and caused her to become bedridden for a good two weeks.
- Battle axes, throwing knives: She wields two battles axes in each hand and can really knock someone three times her size down with ease. But if missing those, she can utilize knives just as well.
- Enhanced strength and accelerated healing: As the name implies, she’s crazy strong. She can lift boulders that weigh a few thousand pounds without so much as a grunt. Her body also tends to heal faster than others.
- Battle tactics: Taking her studies very seriously, Emer has learned to master tactics for battles or come up with the most appropriate plans to save the most people when need be.
Strengths: Emer is very confident in herself and exudes it in every step she takes. Most people find her intimidating, which helps her a great deal when she needs work done. She is always focused and efficient, always having enough energy to take on tasks by herself and getting them done one after the other. Her reliability gains the trust of all her other officers and royals, though she’s selfless enough to never really ask anything in return for the favors. Emer is also not easily afraid of others or situations, as she feels she can overcome almost any obstacle.
Weaknesses: Her intensity deters others from getting too close, so she has a very small circle of friends. Though she’s always focused, she can’t notice herself burning out and sometimes (rarely) shuts down from exhaustion, only remedied by sleep and a lot of food. Her selflessness can be exploited, making her vulnerable to the very same exhaustion. Lastly, she’s not very comfortable with the ocean and tries her best to steer clear.
