Personality:
Sonia is a reserved individual most of the time; quite, sedated, cold and can seem at times almost emotionless. This is intentional, she keeps herself in check to prevent any lapse that might unintentionally unleash the beast inside her. She is rather paranoid as well. Being assassinated will do that to a person. She practices meditation, is a teetotaler and she enjoys reading and other similar quiet pursuits. On mission she is calm, collected and professional to a fault. Despite all this she tries to avoid being a killjoy, she knows others don’t need to be like her, though she can sometimes find their antics annoying in a jealous kind of a way.
The beast is an absolute madwoman and the antithesis of her human form. A thrill seeking, bloodthirsty monster with zero impulse control. The less said about her the better.
Background:
Her childhood was a hard one, out on the frontier it was a struggle to survive with the constant threat of Antipode attacks and the general ruggedness of their environment made life a constant battle for survival. It did not help that she was a dog face, a condition that left her a subject of prejudice and a life with the prospect for little else but grunt work or manual labor.
That all changed with the return to life of a distant uncle. Though she only met him a few times after his return the man seemed to take a liking to her, and funded her education in economics and various other white-collar related skills. It seemed that he perhaps saw past her condition and wanted her to join him in his business. She probably should have been suspicious that nobody quite knew what that business was. During this time she learned to better control her emotions, to hold back the beast and while she made some headway in her studies she could never really get along with her fellow students. Her life's direction changed again when her uncle was found dead when she was nearing the end of her studies. Unable to be resurrected again it turned out he had left her most of his wealth and assets in his will to her.
She finished her studies and began to look into his books and life, finding that the man was a terrible book keeper. She thought that funding your nieces education seemed like an odd way to hire an accountant. It quickly became clear that whatever his business had been it had brought him the ire of some nefarious organization, whom her uncle was vague or uncertain to the identity of. She received threats and found seeking employment or answers impossible as she was thwarted at every turn by their unseen hand. They made vague demands for returns of certain items and information without specify what they were, assuming perhaps that she knew more about her uncle than she really did. His preparations to help her deal with this enemy were as bad as his book keeping skills.
In the end she sought employment in the only real job a Dog-face could find. The military. She joined the Merovingian Rapid Response Force and was trained as a paratrooper. She would be dropped into dangerous situations that required the intervention of their unit, be they military or humanitarian crises and would use her monstrous form to fight or to clear obstacles. It was here where she learned to kill, with tooth and claw but or from the shadows. It was exhilarating, to let go, to feel those extremes of emotion she had denied herself to keep the beast in check. It was about a year into her tour of duty that she died. Not to enemy fire or while helping in a disaster but to a sliced throat while she was asleep back at HQ, at the hands of an assassin in the employ of her enemy.
After she was restored to life she took the skills she had learned in the forces and turned them to hunting down the group. The year in the army had been a welcome respite from her uncle's legacy, but she could ignore it no longer. To make a living she took up bounty hunting, it helped to be paid to track down the various lowlifes to see if they had done her in and it gave her into that community which let her talk to other hunters and find out if any of them knew about the hit on her. In the end she did find her murderer, but he killed himself before she could find out much, but she did get the name of her enemy. The Druze Society.
After that dead end she turned her uncle's property on its head until she eventually found references to the Society and she eventually found hidden documents revealing the existence of a secure holding that could be found on one of the Nomad’s Vessels.
It was on her way to that vessel that her enemy attacked again, the vessel she was traveling on ended up crashing far beyond any human settled area of Dawn, deep in Antipode territory. There were no other survivors. It was two years before she managed to make it back to civilization, two years of fighting or avoiding the planets vicious natives, two years of living off of the land. Against all the odds she survived. When she return it turned out that all her uncles physical assets had long since been seized by debtors or relatives and of the secure off world holding there was no trace. The trail was dead.
It was during all the lengthy proceedings and explanations of what had been happening to try and retrieve as many of her former holdings as possible that somebody in O-12 got a hold of her records and was suitably impressed to offer her a job. She accepted, seeing this as both an opportunity to get away from her enemies who no doubt wanted to finish the job and perhaps find out more about them using the O-12’s resources for when she did return.
