Missy's life was just fine before "The Dark Awakening" happened. She thought she could just forget all her training for becoming a fire mage, but now she was training to defend the human kingdom. Being a fire mage was okay, but she really didn't care that much about it.

Couldn't they call another mage, preferably who was not her? [i][Well, if I slack off, maybe I can go back to my original life, the one where I didn't have to practice using fire everyday./i] She sighed and sat down. Maybe this will work, or maybe she'll be executed.

Darrick looked at the map of recent attacks and the increase in the dark activity. It was all in the outer realm but it was moving inland more quickly every day. His brow furrowed in concern.

"Do you think it is the wizard? Do you think he has returned? If so how do you think we are going to stop him? I'm guessing he has help this time."

Darrick questioned the leader of the king's guard who was also a mage. There were others in the kingdom with magical powers but each person was limited to one or two powers and they had to be honed. It wasn't useful if you hadn't trained with it. Knowing this he turned to his compatriot.

"Who is going with me on this quest for answers?"

Harold nodded, "We think he might be and that it might be that he is banding with the unfriendlies to gain power. There is a young fire mage by the name of Missy Wilson that will be accompanying you."

Darrick nodded and went to get his things to meet her at the gates of the castle. He arrived with his horse and all of his gear. He waited for her. She was late. He sighed.

Missy was told by someone that she had to meet some random guy at the gates, so she took her sweet time. After all, she couldn't care less. When she finally got there, an archer was standing by the gate.

"Yay, I'm here. What do you want me to do?" Missy said.

Darrick looked at the young woman. She wasn't wearing any particular gear or armor that he could see. Was this really the fire mage that was to go with him? His patience was wearing thin. She didn't look remotely ready for this trip let alone like she could be effective in a battle of any kind.

"Are you the fire mage that is accompanying me to the outer realm?"

"What's this "Outer realm"? I didn't make even know I was going on some random quest!" Missy said. "Well, I don't want to go. I want to get fired and life my average life, and only use my fire mage skills for cooking!"

Darrick rubbed his temples for a moment. A headache was setting in. "I was told you volunteered for this. Am I wrong? Did you or did you not agree to go on this mission to help find who is helping the enemies of the realm to stir up trouble? If you did you have ten minutes to get ready to go."

Darrick checked his saddlebags and made sure he had enough water and food for an indefinate amount of time.

"Listen here, I don't want to do this. I just want to stay in my home and forget about all this war. Maybe you got the wrong person?" She shrugged. She then waited by juggling fireballs with her hands.
