The evening after Drogo’s victorious battle over Khal Ogo, the khalasar made camp just outside the Lhazareen village. Daenerys sat curled up on her cushions while she was finishing supper, one hand gently rubbing on her swollen belly. Rhaego was kicking around with his usual vigor. Across the table, Drogo relentlessly picked at the poultice their new enslaved godswife had prepared for his chest wound, deeply concerning his wife.

"Let me see," the khaleesi murmured, crawling over to Drogo, trying to mentally still her actively kicking baby within. She looked closely at where he'd been picking at it, seeing inflamed skin and more swelling than before it had been tended to. Carefully, she lifted a dried corner of the poultice, and gasped. Red and oozing, the wound already smelled foul and infected. Dany grabbed a cloth from the table and began wiping it off.

"Oh no, my Sun & Stars, this is bad, very bad,” Daenerys said as she tried to wipe off what she could, “I think she tried to make this worse!"

Realizing she was getting nowhere, Dany called out for Irri and Jhiqui to bring her hot water. After the water was brought, she dismissed them both, not wanting it to get out that their Khal was ill. Pulling the water to the edge of the table, Dany began to soak another cloth, feeling her heart pounding in her ears now in a near panic.

“I’m going to need to scrub out your infection & stitch the wound,” Daenerys told the khal worriedly. Seeing the disgruntled look on Drogo’s face, Dany gave him a rather stern scowl, going to the other side of their home to grab a wine skin, needle set, & some thread. Thankfully, not being under her brother’s thumb anymore allowed her to grow a backbone, even against her fearsome brute of a husband.

"I will do whatever it takes to make this happen," Dany warned, taking the needle out of her bag and setting it onto their table, “If we let anyone know that you’re this ill… no, it isn’t that. Drogo, I simply cannot bear the thought of losing you. Now please, let me do this.”

The khal did not like what the godswife had done to his wound. It was not the way his people treated wounds. Her strange ways were foreign and he did not trust them in the slightest.

A good washing usually did the trick to take care of their wounds. Sometimes stitching was required, but that was all they needed. Now, his wound felt hot like fire under his skin. It itched and smelled of rot. He picked at the herb and straw concoction that had been put on him. It was unnatural. The godswife had some dark magic about her.

"Moon of my life, it is but a scratch," he replied. His deep voice was more gruff than usual, because of his ailing state. He felt weaker than usual, and quite tired. This was unbecoming of a khal, he knew it and did not like that he was in such a state. If it continued to get much worse, he would not be able to ride.

A khal who could not ride was no khal at all.

Thankfully, he did not argue or attempt to stop his wife's attempts. He would actually be grateful to be rid of the witch woman's strange remedy. Nothing that came from her could be good.

"Wine. Give me wine." He knew whatever his wife meant to do would hurt, worse than acquiring the wound in the first place. Wine would help to ease the pain.

With a nod, Daenerys pieced together her husband's order & poured out his water just outside the door before she came back inside & poured some of the wine into his cup. Handing him the sweetened alcohol, she knelt before him again, giving him an apologetic smile before her warm rag was placed onto his wound & she began to scrub it. She constantly mumbled apologies as her cloth scraped away the rot & puss, not satisfied with an area until it was pink & fleshy once more.

The khal was as strong as ever, if not moreso than she'd ever seen before as she cleaned this wound. Other than a few pained grunts or wincing, he was silent, even when she had to pull back skin to make sure she pulled out all of his infection. One the cleaning was finished, the hot water was poured from her bowl & wine replaced it, Drogo's cup being topped off as well. With shaking hands, Daenerys pulled her string through the wine, giving it more strength & the sterility of the alcoholic liquid. Dany certainly had never stitched a wound before, she'd hardly had much training in stitching clothes, but Drogo needed this to be safe again. & she would not be content until this wound was closed.

She held the needle over an open flame until it grew red and hot, then dipped it in the wine once more. Holding her breath, she threaded the needle, knotted it, and brought it to his open cut. It had started oozing again, but it was only clear fluid now, instead of the foul smelling pus. She glanced up at his face, and let him see her fear. The stitching was going to be far more painful, as necessary as it was.

"I'm so sorry, my Sun & Stars," she apologized once more, "You may want to bite into your arakh blade to keep from attracting attention from the other tents."

Without another warning to Drogo, Daenerys pushed the hot needle into his skin.

Drogo made very little protest as Daenerys scrubbed the wound clean. It hurt a great deal, but to show pain was to show weakness. He would not be perceived as weak, not even by his wife. When she pushed on a particularly pained spot, he would grunt, but that was it.

He watched the khaleesi's actions as she prepared a needle and string. This was something much closer to what he was used to in the art of healing. This was not the dark magic of the witch - he would have to remember to bring punishment upon her. Perhaps he would tie her limbs to their four strongest horses and have each run in a different direction. Or perhaps he would have her burned.

Those were the thoughts that ran through his head as his wife worked. It helped to keep his mind busy with something other than the wound.

Before Daenerys began stitching the wound, he drank the wine in his cup in one great gulp. The khal did not, however, take anything to bite down on. He would endure the pain, instead. Having the already tender flesh pierced by the hot needle hurt a great deal more than the scrubbing. He did not cry out, though. His expression was stone faced and did his best to keep it that way as his wife finished stitching the gash.

The stitches were not even, nor were they remotely tidy. It didn't shock her really, considering she had almost no experience with a needle & tread, & certainly none on healing someone. Thankfully, all that mattered was that the offending gash was sewn shut now, & the khal would begin to heal. He would live to see their son & continue his reign as khal. After gently dabbing the stitches with wine & covering them with a traditional khalasar bandage, Daenerys leaned into Drogo, gently kissing over the stitched wound & smiled up at him. Usually, she held back her crying to be strong for him, but there was no holding back the tears that fell down her cheeks.

"I know that I wasn't the best helper in this situation," Dany admitted as she wiped her wet cheeks with the back of her arm, "But I hope that you can continue to wear that scar with pride." Standing a bit shakily, Dany put away her needle & the things she'd used to patch up Drogo, deciding it would be best if no one knew about tonight until her husband was well again.

"Sun & Stars, let us retire early," Daenerys murmured as she tiredly slumped on the edge of their bed, "We must get you back to being healthy until we can relocate the woman who did this." Lightly rubbing her sore spine, Daenerys began to envision her own angry vengeance on the priestess Mirri. Had she not shown the woman compassion, no, ALL of the women of the Lhazareen village? Earlier that very day, Dany ordered there to be no raping of the women in their tribe, & this woman thought that she was going to rip Dany's beloved khal from her.

Thankfully for her, Daenerys was better at holding in her anger as she urged her husband to come to bed, knowing his arms around her would relax them both. Being awake all night & causing a scene when Drogo was weak enough to be usurped by any man who secretly wished to overthrow the khal would do neither of them any favors. Mirri would be well taken care of when Drogo finished healing.

Once Daenerys was done, Drogo stood from where he'd been laying. He still felt weak, which he despised, but knew that the wound would now heal. He did not care that it would scar, Dothraki wore each scar with pride. It was just another to add to his his collection.

He grabbed a wine skin and drained it thoroughly, then threw the empty skin aside. The wine helped with the pain, which had now dulled to an ache. Having not eaten that much during the day, he also grabbed himself some dried horse meat. It would help him regain his strength, as would the sleep that his wife suggested.

"We should tie the witch down to stakes and let the crows feast on her while she still lives," he said as he walked to their bed. He was not nearly as forgiving as Daenerys, and did not consider second chances. For now, though, he laid down on their bed with his wife. "What would you do with her, moon of my life?"

As always, Daenerys felt a small flutter in the pit of her stomach as Drogo asked her for advice. She was still trying to get used to the fact that a man in her life treated her with respect and valued her opinions; although he still didn't seem to understand or share her objections to the Dothraki practice of raping and enslaving conquered peoples. Today was the first day that her anger over the pillaging, & delighted by her boldness, Drogo had allowed his khaleesi to command the cease of the rape of the Lhazareen village. There had been unrest among the warriors, but there was no denying the khal & his wife.

"I think that for now, we should let her think she's won," Daenerys mumbled softly to Drogo, "You should focus on getting back on the top of your game before you allow your khalasar to see you worked up over a mere slave." Reaching out, she gently rubbed her fingers on his cheek, glad that he seemed to be relaxing a little. Dany could tell finding Mirri among all of the other slaves would be near impossible at this point, for she would be surely be hiding behind as many people as she could. All they had to do was let the worm squirm in hiding, & she would eventually reveal herself. & then she would be squashes for trying to take the khal's life through treachery & cowardly methods.
