@BrokenPromise I see and don't get me wrong. I can see that being quite frustrating. Stealing paragraphs of others writing and calling it your own is pretty bad. But usually people who aren't typing their first language, you can generally tell. I suppose your luck with roleplayers must be worse than mine, if someone that pissed you off and is still in your top echelon of writers you've dealt with. Maybe you need to find new people. XP Though I suppose first experiences like that, I can understand why one wouldn't bother to do so...

But of course people do this. 'This' being finding some kind of inspiration in their favorite show or song or whatever. Everyone does to greater or lesser extents. Creative people will be influenced by those who inspired them to be creative. It's just how creative people work. There really isn't such a thing as an original idea.

There's some fine lines between inspiration and copying. But in the few cheapest cases I've done it in, it certainly was never in writing I'd expect someone to take seriously (aka RP's) and the few times I've done so is generally a single line that fits and isn't forced. It's also vague enough that it really could have been from anything. (Though I also tend to show the music off, since I usually get the feel for a scene as a whole with it. So I certainly don't hide that it isn't mine, when I do it.) But I digress. I don't know if it would make you think more/better of that person, if they admitted that's what their doing. Doesn't sound like that going to happen.

Though the part about needing to match other levels when you're not good enough, tends to not go well anyway. Probably not an enjoyable path for either party and maybe that's a thing you should straight talk about, especially if you actually like this person or if their the sole reason an RP is being drug down. ('The Anchor', is the honorary name.) Though most people I've seen, aren't at the level they think. But that's a whole different can of worms.

This topic is for all sorts of nit pics, and I was simply mentioning one I haven't seen in here before. He had a great personality, and was very cooperative. You don't stay friends with someone without occasionally get irritated with them.

Of course, at least I wish that's how most people viewed friends, online and offline. And not disposable like most actually do. But I was more commenting on, "He needed to plagiarize, every time he roleplayed and to increasing extremes, to barely reach an English comprehension of his peers."

And yet...Top five people I've roleplayed with. Like I've had a bunch of -nice- people I've roleplayed with...but some just weren't very good roleplayers or writers in general. I could still be friends with them and acknowledge I've probably come across, at least slightly better writing in my experiences. But if what you say is true, that someone who you could tell didn't speak English as his first language, solely on his typing abilities...but is still better than everyone you've roleplayed with. It says a lot, hence why I remarked you need to find better people (as in good enough to at least be literate, without stealing words from others.)

...No, I did not type that. I typed "He was not a bad writer by any means." And "He spoke and wrote it better than most native speakers." As well as "He didn't need to blatantly copy things to write good." That's the exact opposite of "He needed to plagiarize, every time he roleplayed and to increasing extremes, to barely reach an English comprehension of his peers."

Anyway, another thing that ticks me off: Time zones!

Seriously, trying to remember the schedule of everyone in my RP so that everything proceeds smoothly urks me. It's not that I mind acting like a secretary. It can just be troublesome to remember all these important times AND when they start.

"Let's work on that collab!"

"Sorry, gunna play D&D with the guys."

"B-but it's not even six-o'clock yet!"

"Not for you maybe."

It's tough to find 1x1s that aren't focussed on romance without the other person having to compromise their interests. Not so much an annoyance, as people that love romance are perfectly free to do so, and that's fine with me, but as someone who prefers 1x1, finding compatible people can be a bit of challenge.

@BrokenPromise Sorry, I think I simply misread what you wrote, it was late at night when I replied. My apologies for misrepresenting that. Though I still think my point remains that seems like odd for a good writer to do in the first place though. (I suppose where your nitpick comes from.)

Maybe I inferred that from being able to tell they didn't have English as their first language, which seems impossible, to know someone isn't even English from their typing and yet also be a fantastic writer on top of that (in English). But I digress, I suppose you don't wish to continue down that particular the line of discussion. Didn't mean to misconstrue anything.

Heh,sounds like the problem I've had to deal with for years. It sucks when you're two hours ahead of a friend and if you want to get a crap ton of posts in you have to stay up very late to get those. It's very hard to deal with that because I like to Post...like,A LOT,and if one of us is off and can't post until a time when I'm off then I get really bored, really fast.

my rant: Remember my last post? Yeah, that's deescalated a bit. She doesn't want to talk to me ever again, which is fine she can do whatever she wants. the only thing I'm pissed at is how she said she cared and just like that doesn't,and how all the roleplaying these last three years I've done with her has just went down the drain. Now the search is on to find someone who can match me in style and can help me because honestly my luck so far,not to offend anyone, has been very bad. I couldn't care less for her at this point now,I just want to forget and keep moving on and pray and hope that I can get the muse up to start roleplaying and even writing again.

I hate having to ask guys for posts. I really fucking do. I feel like I'm bothering or nagging them. It just sucks because this one guy and I used to swap posts multiple times a day, like hefty sized posts. And suddenly he barely posts once a week and I've had to ask for posts the last two times. It's just such a big change. He says he's busy which I understand but it's hard to hear it when I see him active enough without posting. I just don't like feeling like an obligation or chore or someone's mother. I always tell myself to just walk away if they're gonna ghost on me but some RPs are too good to give up on and it's very anxiety inducing. I'm probably gonna give this guy another day or two and then another message. If he's actually busy, I feel bad for asking. But if he's bored I'd like to fix the problem and not walk away from it. Argh...I hate feeling invested when my partner suddenly isn't. What do I do wrong, man? :/

I do feel the need to vent slightly, but gonna try to keep it brief since I try not to get too hung up on things.

If you're the only person in a roleplay to have a differing opinion towards the direction of the plot, by all means, you can give that dissenting opinion. As a GM, I'll listen and see what I can do to try and improve communication next time.

But when your communication to me is rude and you begin to insult me, that's not how you get your point across, and extending beyond writing boundaries, is not how you talk to people. Just because something doesn't go your way after everyone else agreed on it, does not give you the grounds to cry "wolf!"

My standpoint on roleplaying has always been the matter of adaptation, and if you can not go beyond your own personal belief and adapt to the roleplay on the behalf of the other participants and the people who put actual work into their posts and ideas, then you've lost my respect. Which is impressive, to say the least, since I don't try to make myself out to be serious or overbearing until something like this.

I wouldn't have felt the need to vent if this dissenting opinion wasn't a constant fruit of negativity. It's been days since it was discussed and you're still moping over it. Get over it, already.

And if not, then actually talk to me about it again if you're that willing to hold this childish animosity over a different choice of events. At the very least, don't be such an immature cunt about it.

@Solace Could be worse. The person could leave then come back to troll the RP, the GM, and the other members... and then get themselves banned off the site.

Right now I am just tired of the excuses. I get that people are busy, hell we ALL are. That is life. We get busy, school kicks our asses, so does work, and kids, and family, and illness, and so forth to infinity and beyond. You work with it, you work around it. I have no problem cutting breaks for people part of the time. Sometimes it just gets to be too much but seriously, if every few days or weeks you are dropping me some sob story of - Oh I'm busy, I have this, I have that - STOP! I've heard it! Yeah yeah, you had this this week and this the next, and this the following. For months, a year, two years even. I'm not sympathetic at this point. You made a commitment, stick to it.

Slight tangent on that - All the "kids" or "young adults" on the forum I see bitching about their parents not understanding them or not treating them like adults. Then I see you flake out on Rp's, whine no one wants to rp with you, post "I'm quitting" to get attention and only to be back 12 hours later. Seriously? You want to be treated like an adult - ACT LIKE ONE! That means keeping the commitments you make, not flaking out, not making excuses, not whining, not attention seeking, and for the love of god not making up stories just to get someone to go "oh you poor thing!" - Hate to tell you this but it is just gonna get harder the older you get, so suck it up buttercup and get a helmet - Life is gonna suck when you grow up!

And on that note - I'll leave you with this little diddy.

@Chrononaut I find that collabs go a lot smoother when it's just you and one other person. When you start adding more people, they get confused really easily. I call it the canadian effect: nobody wants to offend by skipping someone's turn. That's not to say this was the problem, as there are some very lax people out there who will stall just because they can.

@BrokenPromise I write them down if they are not in my time zone.

@The Mage Well sounds like we are similar. I like to post multiple times a day and it's really tough to find writers that can do that. PM if you want to do a 1x1 or something.

@Genkai As a GM I totally sympathize I've been there too and finally I decided to take a break on the gming for a bit. I'm tired of people disappearing or me having to hound them for posts.

I humor a player by saying I'll consider his beach event idea if enough of my players vote for it.

Of course fate would have it that people actually vote for it.

@Lady Amalthea The overall sentiment of childish younger adults/teenagers, needing to grow the fuck up and fast. Is a statement I can 100% get behind. And I agree with what you said, and the point of kids not even being responsible enough for their hobby, they won't survive the real world type of thing.

npr.org/sections/thetwo-way/2016/05/2…

(And how most 18-30 year old's still live with their parents, like my older brother, he didn't stay because he -had- to. They made him live rent free and he never had to pay for food or anything, so why not leech of them as long as you can while you build money from a job to spend on whatever you want instead? I have a feeling that's also the reason most people do as well. I remember a discussion of young adults crying about moving out, because they'd need to do their own laundry. Like Jesus...)

But I know I was told all the time by my parents, that "I hated my teen years? Adult life would be SO much WORSE!" (well my father did.) Maybe it's just because I was already grown up at that time and eager to leave before I was even legally allowed to. But yeah. They we're SO wrong.

Adult life is about a million times better than my childhood was. And I do NOT miss my childhood in the slightest.
